A not so happy ring return to end a year of many quagmires. Bryant had known his wedding band did not fit his finger as it should. It is a downfall of Tungsten Carbide as a ring material is that it can not be resized. As so it remained on his finger until this years fallen leaf removal had to been accomplished. A friend offered to show off his new leaf vacuum and “pick up” the pile of leaves and take them to a dump.

Unfortunately, Bryant did not realize his band had slipped off his finger before the leaves had been removed form his yard. A visual search of the yard did not help. Bryant knew his access to a utility pipe locator might find the ring in the pile of leaves. No it did not. It was a non-ferrous metal detector for locating iron. Next a purchase and use of a low end metal detector did not locate the ring either. It was time to ask for help from J&E Enterprises, a local metal detector dealer. The owner, Eleanor, gave Bryant my phone number.

Bryant’s call gave me the necessary information for a search which was set for that afternoon. A two hour search in rain and fading light, even with one of my best detectors, I did not find the ring. A few pull tabs, aluminum and pieces of wire, but no ring. It got too dark to see targets in the leaf pile. I went home with no good news for Bryant.

Arrangements were made to search Bryant’s yard in two days. The next day I could not get it out of my mind that I could not find a few targets the night before. Now the sun was out, but the temperature was below freezing and I had to go and give the leaf pile another search. And I did search the ice encrusted leaves. In doing so I found two of the targets I could not locate in the dark the night before. Bitter sweetness came over me as I knew I had found two pieces of Bryant’s ring. The ring had been shattered by the impeller blade of the leaf vacuum.

I could not detect any more, my fingers too cold to hold my detecting gear, let alone pick up another small piece of the ring.

Bryant met me after work to offer his thanks for putting an end to the search. A closure of a sort. I offered to return for another search after the ice and the next day’s forecast of a foot of snow had melted away. On the light side the return of the parts was a better ending to our searching than if I had searched Bryant’s yard, finding nothing and leaving Bryant with no closure.

We parted with hopes of 2021 being a much better year for everyone.

Lost wedding ring in spokane valley Wa, Found !!!

I know that all of the Ring Finders that live where it snows have come back home wet, cold and with a dull feeling of not finding the lost ring they were tasked with finding. However, as I sat at my dinner table eating my reheated dinner, I got a text from a lady who was wanting to know if I could help her nanny find her lost wedding ring. Knowing all the questions I had to ask would clog up a text message, I called the lady. After chatting about the lost ring and how they used hot water to melt away the snow without sucsses, I told her after work the next day I would come by. Before getting off the phone I asked her how she found The Ring Finders, her answer brought a smile to my face. She said her friend saw her post on facebook asking for help, and told her she had a great experience using The Ring Finders in San Antonio when she lost her bracelet. Hats off too all of the Ring Finders in San Antonio doing what we do best, finding smiles. Today after a wet and soggy day cleaning up metling snow off of our hanger floor, I made my way to a house on top of a hill. The couple Laura the nanny and Felipe her husband, joined me in my car and we made our way to an off the beaten path photo shoot location. As we scoped out the area where the pictures where being taken, Laura pulled out her phone and showed me a short GIF of her shaking the snow off her hands. How convenient, the exact time and position where Laura lost her ring. All I had to do was walk two feet and start scanning around the left side of where she stood. Easy enough right? Wrong! The ring on her left hand flew down and to the right. The whole search took three minutes max, but amazingly enough the ring was under the snow and in the forest floor about two inches. These fast searches blow my mind, but let the truth be told you cannot find a lost ring when there is no ring to be found. Laura’s and Felipe’s rings were made in Columbia four mounths prior. It’s amazing to think that her ring traveled all that way to be lost in a forest in Washington state. The Ring Finders, finding smiles and saving rings.

Lost Wedding Ring – Pensacola, FL – FOUND!!!

So apparently Pine straw is out there trying to steal some rings so be careful. 😃. A few days ago I received a call from Bill. Actually backing up, Shelly, Bill’s wife had heard about me from a friend and messaged me through Facebook. After a quick reply, she had Bill call me. Bill described that he had been working in the yard putting out some pine straw when he looked down and saw that his ring was missing. Bill had been wearing that ring for the last 38 years so I was willing to bet that he noticed it was gone quicker than most people would have. When I told him how I could help he decided he wanted me to come try even though he wasn’t 100% sure that it was in the yard. I was pretty sure that I could find it and I was determined to try. What Bill didn’t realize is that when I saw the address I noticed that he lived in the neighborhood next to mine. If there is one thing I like even more than helping people find a ring, it’s helping a neighbor find their ring. When I got there, I switched to the pinpointer coil so that I could get down between the bushes and Bill went back inside to let me concentrate. He didn’t have to wait long and was beside himself when I knocked on his door and told him his ring was perched on my detector by the tree (Covid safe 😷👍). He was even more surprised when he went to talk about a reward and I explained that I literally could have cut through the neighborhood and walked there. I wouldn’t take anything from my neighbor and new friend. I’m so happy that I could help!  Merry Christmas to you both Bill and Shelly!  God bless!

Lost Alabama Class Ring – FOUND!!!

One night last week I got a call from a very nice gentleman that needed some help. He had been out putting in pine straw and when he got done he noticed that his class ring wasn’t on his hand. This was really bad because he’d had this ring on his finger since 1968 when he graduated from the University of Alabama. He immediately told his wife and she put out the call for help. Someone eventually told her about what I do and gave her my phone number. When Mr. Spivey called he asked if I was the Ringmaster, I was tempted to say yes but I didn’t want to jinx myself. 😃 He was very nice and explained what happened and I told him how I thought I could help. We agreed that I would come early the next morning and I asked him to text me the address. He explained that he didn’t have all of that techy stuff and offered to give me the address and directions. I told him the address would be great but he very thoroughly proceeded to give me the directions. I was thrilled to hear someone describe exactly how to get to their home and go over each part of the route that they felt was important to describe the way to their home. I thought about how technology had changed a lot of that but I thoroughly enjoyed hearing him describe that route he had been so many times. 👍 When I got to the house in the morning I was met in the driveway by a pretty Lab. I was pretty sure that she was friendly but I gave a quick call to the number I had. Mrs. Spivey assured me that “Penny” was a sweetheart and I opened my door to lots of tail wagging and some curious sniffs. By that time, Mrs Spivey had come out and walked me out to the back so I could see all of the fresh pine straw. They weren’t 100% sure that it was in the yard but it seemed like the most logical place so I started my search. Mrs Spivey went back inside and instructed me to knock if I needed anything. I was using a small sharpshooter coil so I was able to go through everything and stick it down between all of the shrubs as well. As Murphy’s law would state, I was at the very last bush when I got a beautiful, very obvious gold tone. I pulled back the leaves and parted the fresh pine straw to see a gorgeous, well loved, solid gold ring with a Crimson stone on top. I thought for just a second about how much it had been a part of Mr. and Mrs Spivey’s lives and then I went to knock on the door. She came out and asked if I needed anything and finally noticed the ring when I pointed to it on my detector. As you can imagine, she was thrilled and even got a bit choked up when she talked about getting it back to her husband. I am so glad I got to make sure that it wasn’t the end of the journey for your family heirloom. Merry Christmas to you both.

Lost Diamond Ring in Houma, LA. – FOUND

Carrie got a call from Johnney about 9 am. Her 87 year old Mom had lost her diamond ring while working in her flower bed. With nothing going on for us at the time, we jumped in the truck and drove the 2 hours to Houma. The hunt area was pretty small, so Carrie grabbed her pin pointer to hunt the flower bed and Sid went for the detector to check the lawn around the flower bed. Carrie came up with a hit and the find within 5 minutes. Fast, but not a record for her. Needless to say Johnney and Mom were thrilled, with smiles and (even though we were not supposed to) hugs being shared. Old stories and a couple of pictures capped off our visit.

Stolen Wedding Ring in Rathdrum Idaho, FOUND!!

Life steals away lots of things, memories, happiness, and loved ones. However when an item is stolen from your possession by another human it leaves a sting that never fully goes away. Likewise when the item is stolen by a family member you are left with a hurting heart and the feeling of a hopeless loss. For Ric and Ronda the latter came true while the snow began to fall in Idaho. The full story of the how the ring went missing was validated by a lie detection test and a trip to the pawn shop. Both tests proved that the ring that was stolen, was pawned, bought back and then thrown into Ric and Ronda’s front yard. A metal detector was rented and use but the ring still remained lost. Ric was using google to find a better metal detector but found instead The Ring Finders directory. I called Ric as fast as my fingers could dial the number he left in his email. We discussed « the story » behind the stolen ring, then made a plan for me to come over the next day. I arrived to the snowy front yard of Ric and Ronda’s and began to ask my standard questions of what kind of ring was it and what kind of gold was it made of. Ric’s reply was let me go get a picture of it. Ric came back out of the house with the insurance pictures of a stunning yellow and white gold marquise diamond wedding ring. I knew if the ring was there I was going to hear a loud signal under the two inches of snow. I could see the path where the person with a metal detector was looking but knew my 18 years of detecting was going to find it even if a coil had already passed over the ring. So back and forth I weaved talking and keeping the mood light. I had just asked a question to Ric while kicking away the snow that was over a 53 vdi signal, I remember that I had said « her ring » in the question. However I can’t recall the question because when I looked back down at the snow I saw the top half of a large gold ring. I said « hey Ric Her Ring » and I kept repeating her ring until he came over to look. Meanwhile Ronda was quickly exiting the front screen door exclaiming did he find it? With the pure excitement of the whole ordeal Ric’s wide eyes could not see the ring laying in the grass and snow. My hand met his and pointed out the location of his Wife’s wedding ring. Tears, screams of joy, clutched hands shaking with relief, my big smile , all erupted and all happened in less time then it took for the ring to fly out of a car window and land at the edge of Ric and Ronda’s snowy front yard. The story of life has many twists and turns, some leading to a hurting heart but leading to the joy only a Ring Finders Recovery can bring. Ric told me he had set the stones in Ronda’s ring 20 some years ago. I could see the happy moment when he gave her that ring for the first time, return to his smiling face. Blessed are those to hold on till the end knowing that at the end true peace will be delivered.

I received a text from Tammy last Saturday evening asking me if I helped people find lost rings on Honeymoon Island, Dunedin Fl. Tammy and her husband live in Illinois and were visiting her sister Becky and parents in Dunedin for her birthday. Earlier that day, they were enjoying some beach time when Tammy removed her wedding ring (white gold and diamonds) to apply sunscreen, either laying it on her towel or in the cup holder of the chair. Several hours later, Tammy and Becky moved their chairs to a less windy location but Tammy didn’t realize that her ring was missing until she had left the beach. She guessed that either the ring had flown off the towel when she shook the sand off or it dropped from the chair when she folded it up. Tammy returned to search for the ring but was unable to locate it before it got dark. Becky posted the lost ring on several neighborhood sites and Tammy had found me and the Ring Finders through an internet search.

I met Tammy and Becky at Dog Beach on Honeymoon Island on Sunday morning. My wife Jan came along to outline grids and for moral support and Becky’s neighbor Chip helped search with an older Garrett detector. They were certain that the ring was lost at their first beach location but the the first grid area was still several hundred feet long by about 75 feet wide (fortunately, tides would not be an issue). I searched this area while Chip searched an area further south. After several hours of finding only pull tabs, bottle caps, and a few coins, I quickly searched Chip’s area again while he moved north of the first search area. I swept some of the north area as well including their second beach location which was easily identified by some beach vegetation before we decided to take a break after about three hours. Tammy was obviously discouraged and had not slept much the night before. She was scheduled to fly back to Illinois at 6am Monday morning.

I went home for about an hour and returned to the beach to renew the search. I swept the first area again and then went further south than I had previously searched. I continued to recover some beach trash as well as coins but I was digging every target. I then moved back to the north search area to work a new grid. After another two hours of searching, I had yet to recover the ring and I needed to leave to meet friends for dinner. As I walked even further north towards the beach access still swinging my Nox, I registered an 11-12 about 4” deep. I had similar targets earlier but dug only scrap. I was so tired of digging with the scoop I just kicked the spot with my foot until I uncovered the target which of course turned out to be Tammy’s ring! Call it just pure luck or maybe divine guidance, but I walked over the exact spot while leaving the beach! At first I just looked in disbelief and then looked around for someone to celebrate with but unfortunately I had the beach to myself.

I texted Tammy a photo of the ring and received an exclamation point filled reply. Coincidentally, my wife and I were to have dinner with friends that evening at a home near where Tammy was staying so I returned the wedding ring to her that evening.

Newlywed’s Ring found on Narragansett RI Town Beach

On Sunday, October 18, 2020, Matt and his wife were married on beautiful Narragansett town beach, followed by a celebration in the North Beach Club House.  At some point after the ceremony, they noticed that Matt’s wedding band had slipped off.  Friends and family  helped  search the beach and the Club House.  Guests even got a rake to search the sand and tried using a metal detector as well.  Unfortunately, these efforts only caused the ring to sink deeper in the sand.  They decided to search the internet for help and found TheRingFinders.com website.  On Monday, Matt sent me a text message asking for my help.  As soon as I got his message, I contacted Matt to let him know that I was on my way to search for his lost wedding band.  That’s when Matt told me that the wedding band had been handed down to him by his late grandfather.  Matt and his wife live in Cambridge, MA, and were unable to meet me at the beach, so they provided photos of the two areas where they thought the ring might be.  I started my search closest to the water, and in ten minutes I found Matt’s ring about 8 inches deep in the sand.  I called him with the good news.  We met that evening, and he was thrilled to have his ring back.

Lost ring at Coronado found

Stephen and his family were visiting from out of town and spent the day at the beach in Coronado. He had removed his wedding ring before going into the water and left it there were they were sitting in the dry sand. At the end of the day, the belongings were gathered and the ring ended up MIA. I got the call the next day and got the particulars on what type of ring, a photo of the ring, and approximately where they were sitting via a Google map, since they had already gone home a couple of hours north of me and couldn’t show me the exact spot personally. Over a Sunday night and a Monday morning, there usually are several people who detect that beach, but, the area where they were sitting wasn’t right in the most common area, so, there was still a chance it was still there. I headed over after all the crowds had left for the day and took a guess as to where to start. I actually started a bit north of where ground zero was supposed to be and was going to work my way south. When I got the the area, I noticed that the beach grooming machine had gone through the place. Yikes, another strike against a successful search. I turned on my light to take a closer look at the sand, and realized that they just ran the big rake through there, and not the sifter. Good! That made me a bit more confident.  I made about three 20 foot passes and got my 4th solid 14 on my Equinox. The previous 3 were pull tabs, as usual, but, this 4th one was Stephens ring! This search could have taken hours, but, sometimes you just get lucky! I sent a photo of the ring to Stephen and he was overjoyed that it was found and he could actually wear it again. Now it’s up to the USPS to do it’s job getting his ring home safe and sound. Thank you for the reward Stephen.
