Friday morning Dion went to the front door to let his dog outside and in the dogs excited state there was some confusion about not exiting the house fast enough. Dion was wanting his dog to hurry along and he swung his left hand underhanded like…sort of in a bowling style motion and he felt his unique, custom made wedding ring come off of his finger. He heard a ping sound, as if his ring had struck something metal and it just plain disappeared. He was sure it landed close by and proceeded to search all through the low bushes along the side walk. He even went as far as removing all the bushes…he told me later that they didn’t like those bushes anyway…so all that was left was the pine bark mulch and dirt! Dion was bound and determined to find his two piece, interlocking, platinum and yellow gold wedding ring which he has worn for the past 11 years.

Friday night was a very difficult night for Dion as he struggled with the thought of never seeing his lost wedding ring again. In desperation he went online and looked up « How to find a lost ring » and up came theringfinders.com and as he read what we are all about he started to find some hope. He sent out a request to one of our members and they were able to do a short search but they were unable to locate Dion’s lost wedding ring. Dion knew his lost ring had to be there in his front yard somewhere so he gave me a call and explained what happened. It was a two hour drive that took me up into the beautiful Ocala National Forest area and I was anxious to see what the front of his house looked like and where his ring was hiding. After meeting Dion and hearing his story there was one key fact that stuck out to me. He said that when he waved his hand at the dog the sound of his ring hitting something was not immediate but delayed. That information told me his ring struck the sidewalk or driveway out a good ways from the front door. Both sides of the sidewalk had been thoroughly searched so I determined it must have landed out in the grass some 30 to 40 feet from where Dion had been standing. It took only a minute or two to set up my Garrett ATMax metal detector and within minutes I got my first promising signal—Platinum! And a couple of swings later—Yellow Gold!

Dion was overjoyed and rushed inside to tell his wife and as I walked along I silently thanked God for allowing me to be a blessing to this young couple and their 8 kids!

Lost engagement ring, Casselberry, Florida….Found and Returned!

  • from Sanford (Florida, United States)
Contact:

Michael, a newlywed of two months, emailed me asking about theringfinders service and if I would be available anytime soon to help look for his wife’s lost diamond engagement ring! I assured Michael that if he was confident about the area where she lost it then there would be a very good chance of finding it. Often people think they’ve lost something in more than one location and that usually means allot more work trying to locate the missing item. And thankfully in this case there were only two locations that they felt very confident about.

Gaby, Michael’s dear wife, had put her ring in her pants pocket along with her ear bud cord and she remembered pulling the cord from her pocket a couple of times while they were out taking some photos around a small pond in their neighborhood. And as with many ponds and water ways here in Florida come the usual wildlife that make themselves at home. And in this case there are allot of ducks…and Gaby was sure one of them had picked it up and possibly ate it!

I met Michael and Gaby the next morning bright and early and followed them to the first location where Gaby had posed for some photos. And after a 20 minute search of all the possible areas that she had walked the previous day…NO RING! So we walked along the sidewalk to the other side of the lake where more photos were taken. They again explained where Michael stood with the camera and the two places where Gaby had posed. So I set out a few marker flags and again got to work grid searching the final area. All along while searching I would get various sounding signals and when looking for a lost ladies wedding ring it is best to double check all the small foil like signals to be sure it is not the ring. Plus when looking for a recent drop it is almost sure to be just down in the grass and not buried in the dirt. And sure enough just as I was finishing up the final corner of the search area I got a loud signal reading of « 44 » on my Garrett ATMax metal detector and showing it was down two inches. I checked the target with my Garrett pin pointer and there hiding under the grass was Gaby’s lost engagement ring! So I laid the pin pointer on the ground with the ring laying just off the end and motioned to Michael and Gaby to come over and look at what I had just found. As she picked up her precious ring I said a heart felt thank you to God for allowing me to find her lost treasure.

Maybe you’ve lost something recently and would like some help. Call, text or email me ASAP and I will do my very best to help you recover your lost item.

Mari called me asking for help to find her husband’s gold wedding ring lost in the yard while clearing debris from drainage gutters. Her husband, Ali didn’t feel the ring come off his finger. His hands were cold and wet. It had to come off while digging in the wet mud of the planter.

The next day Ali tediously removed all the wood chip ground cover looking for a glimmer of gold color. Then he sifted through a lot of the muddy soil. They called several stores trying to find a metal detector in stock. Then that afternoon they went to a local home depot tool rental store. Someone there told them about TheRingFinders. Ali called me, telling me the story.

I was not sure what conditions I would have to deal with and it looked like it might be raining. I brought rain gear just in case. We were lucky that the rain had just let up when I met Ali that morning. He showed me where he had searched. It took a few minutes to set up my detector because there was some electrical interference near the house.

The area was less than 20’x20’. I began swinging my coil over most the area hearing several potential targets without checking them. When swinging up under a small palm tree a stronger tone and good number ID came up on my metal detector. Ali was standing next to me with a small garden shovel in his hand. I ask him to dig that spot. He only pushed the hand shovel 3” on the damp mud then when he dumped it the gold ring popped out. Both of us were surprised, it was only a few minutes and it was our first target. The right tool for the right job.

I never get tired of doing this, even though there are times when the lost item may not be in the location where it was thought to be lost. You can’t find it if it isn’t there.

I received a call from James, who had lost a hearing aid in his yard when bees attacked him as he was doing yard work. He had rented metal detector and it was not able get signal from his other hearing aid.

I was only a half hour from his home in Sherman Oaks which is part of the Los Angeles suburbs. We met and he was concerned that the bees may hamper my ability to search the hillside landscape. I was just happy that my high frequency metal detector could get a decent signal from an identical hearing aid.

The hillside was steep and was fairly free of vegetation. It was possible to search about 35 feet from the underground bees (wasps) nest without arousing them. After about a half hour with a few signals from pieces of wire and nails, I got a signal that turned out to be the missing hearing aid.

I used a XP Deus metal detector with a 74 kHz high frequency coil that has been awesome for finding small gold and platinum stud earrings. It was a fun hunt and pleasure to help James find such an important item that he desperately missed after three days without his hearing aid.

If you lose a ring or other important metal item call ASAP .. “I WILL TRY ANYWHERE”

Lauren’s parents had passed down their wedding rings to Lauren to be used for her marriage next week. The unique gold ring that her father had worn for over 35 years was lost three hours after they gave them to her. Lauren had put both rings on her fingers till she could put them in a safe place.

She was at her new home that was in the process of being remodeled when her whole day turned into panic. Her project for the day was to organize some of the boxes stored in the garage. Also, unpack a few of the boxes of items to go into kitchen cupboards. We also had an area of the front yard where she had removed some weeds.

Timing was important because Lauren was able to recall most of the places she had been. We did a quick grid of the front yard where I could use my big metal detector. Then the kitchen area boxes and wrapping where I could use the handheld pinpointer metal detector. Last place was the garage that had 30 or 40 boxes plus the floor area around them. Starting at one side, we opened each box and it was helpful that Lauren could remember the boxes she didn’t open.

The ring showed up in a box of halloween decorations that she had searched without success before calling me. It was great to see how happy she was and the look of relief on her face. We definitely saved many hours of grief if it wasn’t found. It could have been next Halloween till she opened this box again. I was kind of hopeful that the ring would show up inside one of the boxes as this has been the action in past searches that caused rings to slip from fingers.

Ryan and Anna had been married one day when Anna accidentally dropped Ryan’s gold wedding band in the sand. Ryan has given Anna his ring for safekeeping while he went swimming in the ocean at Laguna Beach, CA.

After futile attempts to find the ring by several people it was looking like the ring may be lost forever. I’m sure Anna felt guilty for losing the ring. Anna called her father, David for ideas of how to find the ring. David was able to search on line coming up with my contact information on TheRingFinders.com website.

I was in my car, on my way to metal detect on another beach. David told me what beach the his daughter and new son in-law were. He was also on his way to help.

We met a half hour later at Cress St. Beach. Walking down to the beach took longer than the time it took to find the ring. It’s nice to get these type searches now and then. Timing was important to make this a successful search.

These fast searches don’t happen often. I have had several searches lately that have taken more than 4 or 5 hours. When the ring is not there it can take many hours to eliminate possible hiding places.

It was a pleasure to help this  newly wedded couple find this ring,
especially while they are still celebrating their marriage. It was also nice to meet David, who was proud to have a part of finding someone with a metal detector.

Bill gave his wife, Taylor his white gold wedding ring to hold while he went swimming in the bay at Newport Beach, CA.  Sometime during the next couple hours she had lost the ring, but they didn’t realize it was lost until they returned home. This was exactly what happened about six weeks ago, when I was able to find the same ring in the surf at a San Clemente, CA.

This time Bill knew to call me that night as soon as could. We set up a time when he could get away from his job at lunch break the next day. The area they had been that day was approximately 40 feet square. Then there was the walk to the car, something like 100 yards across the sand.

Bill had to return to work which didn’t bother me. I had what information l needed and I could take my time to do a thorough grid search.

The beach was very clean without bothersome bottle caps and pull tabs. I was nearing the end of the main search location and it looked like my next grid would be the long walk to the parking lot. Then the sweet tone of a gold ring in my headphones. Boom! a quick dig and I had Bills wedding ring in my scoop.

Just as I was getting ready to send Bill the good news I received a text from him ..  “ Any luck? If not please forget about it.” ..  I texted Bill a photo of the ring and he called right away. It was nice to hear the joy in his voice. I was able to hold his ring for more than a week, until he was could pick it up. It’s always great to see the smile and the eyes light up when you hand the ring back to the person that thought it was lost forever.

Laura had lost her wedding ring in her front yard. After returning from her OB doctor where he recommended she not wear her ring as her fingers were beginning to swell. Laura temporally put her wedding ring on her smaller finger.

Later that day she had been standing on her front porch shaking a blanket when the ring went flying off her finger. She was several months pregnant which made it difficult to search for the ring. Then she remembered seeing recommendations for TheRingFinders on line from people on her local community forum.

I was able to meet Laura at her home on Mission Viejo shortly after her call. Even though it was a small search area, it took about 45 minutes to locate the small wedding ring. I typically do a thorough scan with my detector. The I visually search the sidewalk and porch area. Lastly, I get out the hand held pinpointer detector to get the areas underneath plants and up next to metal objects.

The ring was found visually a couple inches from a metal post that masked any signal of the ring. If you rent a metal detector they don’t tell you about electrical interference, other metal trash and most the time rental people don’t know how to use the detector. Also, the quality of the detectors leave a lot to be desired.

Laura was ecstatic to get her ring back. It had a long history including having to be cut off her finger several years ago when she with her last pregnancy.

Todd was bodysurfing while on a vacation. As he was coming out of the water he shook his hand and his gold wedding ring went directly into water. It was high tide and he was in about a foot of water.

Todd gave up hope of finding his ring feeling it was lost forever. He and his wife had taken a walk. He was upset about loosing the ring. As they past a local jewelry store his wife suggested they look for a replacement. They decided to buy a new ring but they didn’t have a size 11. After telling the story about losing the ring in the surf, the person that was helping them gave Todd my contact information.

I met Todd at 7pm as the tide was receding. He put me in the general area. I could not locate the ring and it was not worth risking searching in the rough surf. I decided to wait for the lower tide. Returning three hours later with a Pulse Induction Metal Detector that has the ability to get targets deeper in the soft sand.

After an hour of grid searching the ring had not showed. My next plan was to cross grid swinging very slow. I got the faintest of sound in my earphones. It was more like a break in the threshold. After digging a deep hole in the damp sand, Todd’s gold ring showed up in my sand scoop. It’s difficult to understand how deep this ring was after only 6 hours. We have many miles of beach in Southern California with all types of sand conditions. I have recovered many rings only a few inches deep after several days. Sand conditions can be a problem but there is always a better chance to find a ring that was lost at a higher tide. Finding a ring in a lake or bay can be easier if there isn’t too much metal trash and if it was lost in water less than shoulder deep.

Todd and his wife were flying home to Idaho the next morning. I was able to meet them to return the ring just before they left for the airport. It’s always nice to see the happiness and smiles when returning a ring that is so sentimental to someone that has worn it daily for more than 20 years.

Raul called asking for my help to find his wife’s platinum/ diamond and blue sapphire ring lost in the dry sand in Laguna Beach, CA. His wife Marisa had been sitting on the board walk with her feet touching the sand. She removed her wedding ring and it slipped from her grip falling out of site.

They spent a lot of time searching in the small area of sand. They panicked when the ring eluded them. They feared that the ring may have dropped between the wooden planks of the boardwalk. If the ring went under the the boardwalk it would not be accessible without major removal of sand.

I set up my metal detector and told them to cross their  fingers hoping that it was not under the boardwalk. It was a quick recovery, actually under Marisa’s foot in the sand. They had done everything right. Marisa had stayed in the location of the loss and Raul had got on line finding my contact information. Total time from when Raul called was less than 45 minutes including 7 miles drive, finding a parking spot on Sunday and a short two block walk.

One small note about this type search is the puzzled look you get when you find a small item so easily right in front of where they had been searching. “ Using The Right Tool For The Right Job “ .. Also knowing how to operate the metal detector.

It’s always a pleasure to help reunite such sentimental keepsakes with the owner. It’s also hard to put in words the joy of seeing the happiness that people express at the moment the item is found.
