Lost gold ring recovered in Little Pike Lake, Warsaw Indiana

Zoey called about her husband losing his rose gold wedding band in a park swimming area. She said they were in 4 feet of water when he felt it slide off. They recalled that they were “to the left” of a certain lifeguard seat and in line with a certain rope buoy. Immediately upon starting the search, I knew it was going to possibly be an iffy chance, dud to molten slag gravel making up most of the base layer of the swim area. After confidenyly searching the area stated by them, I expanded the search to deeper water, got a nice mid-tone signal between constant slag signals while on mg tip toes, water up to my chin (I am 6’3”). Right on the edge of a drop off. Scooped the target and when checking the scoop, saw a rose gold band in it! I looked and saw Zoey standing at the water’s edge, she had lost hope (after about 25 minutes). I said “I got it!” and she turned to all smiles. Some beach goers had overheard the conversation after and walked over to express their mutual gratitude for recovering the newly wed couple’s lost ring.

Marilyn’s Lost Diamond Ring Recovered from Lake Marcel WA

Marilyn contacted me to help recover her lost diamond wedding ring. In early June she was on her private dock when her dog jumped up and his paw happened to catcher her ring pulling it off her finger. This ring was customer made and has a clasp to make it easier to take on and off the finger. Apparently so easy a dog can take the ring off with ease. Marilyn remembers precisely where she was standing on the dock and the direction she was facing however she never heard the ring hitting the dock or water. He husband had helped by removing several boards from the dock in the target area and they searched for days. They even got creative by attaching a plastic basket to a long piece of wood and also a kitchen strainer and had been scooping up gobs of silt from the bottom of the lake. At one point they even had a friend with a metal detector attempting to locate the ring.

As a fist step I searched the dock with my metal detector to make certain it simply wasn’t over looked. After that I got low on the dock and searched at arms length thought the water from the opening with no success. At this point having brought all my SCUBA gear I suited up and took the plunge. Being that this was a very shallow search it was partially obstructed by the dock and we sill didn’t have an exact entry point so it make the most since to to use the SCUBA gear. Having a drysuit also made the work more pleasant. The bottom of this man made lake was full of thick silt and having the ability to remain buoyant off the silt was also an advantage. All though some visual search methods can be used most often heavy metal items are covered by the silt or obscured by plant growth so by having a high quality underwater metal detector has prove to be a key component in the recovery of these lost items under water.

With a little work I was able to get over the top of the ring with my metal detector and make the recovery a success. Marilyn was very happy to get her ring back with all of the diamonds still securely attached.. I’m also very happy they found The Ring Finders and we were able to make yet another memorable recovery today.

Lost Wedding Ring Victoria B.C. Recovered and Returned

Monday June 18th  Jon and Cheryl were at Langford Lake boat ramp teaching their dog to swim. Jon told me, I do remember feeling it slip off when the dog I was holding started to swim towards shore. I remember my feet in the muck but I was facing the shore. I tried diving down when it happened and maybe I buried it with all the commotion. It’s platinum – not sure if that makes it harder to detect or not.
Cheryl contacted me June 26th, “Don can you help, My husband of just 9 months lost his wedding ring. »
I started searching that afternoon, After three failed attempts to recover this heirloom platinum wedding ring I returned one more time, it was bugging me that I was not able to recover and return this ring.
Well persistence paid off, found it and returned to a very happy couple.

Vintage Gold Watch Lost from Beach Chair Cupholder .. Found in Sand at Newport Beach, CA.

This is the fourth time in the last couple weeks that I got a call out for jewelry lost from a beach chair cupholder. Rich and his family are from Phoenix, AZ. They were here on vacation in the Los Angeles area . This day they had been at Newport Beach, CA., where he had put his Vintage Gold Omega watch in the cupholder of his beach chair. At the end of they day, they picked up their belongings to make the trip back to their hotel near LAX airport.

Rich realized that he had not retrieved his watch from the beach chair cupholder just before arriving at the hotel. Rich is a attorney. This was a very sentimental as he had purchased it 30 years ago when he had celebrated winning his first court case. He had plans of passing it down to his son in the future. His wife found my information on line and he called me. 

We met on the beach after he made the 30 mile drive back to Newport Beach. Most the people were off the beach, giving us room to do a proper search. Rich was worried that the watch may have fallen out in the massive dry sand area from the towel line back to the boardwalk. I told him that most of these losses are found near the place the beach chair was picked up. That’s where I started the grid search. If it wasn’t there I would not stop till all the possible sandy hiding places were covered.

After searching the first 50ft x 30ft of dry sand the beautiful gold Omega watch showed up in my sand scoop. Rich was off in the distance shuffling his feet through the sand. He looked at me and I gave him a thumbs up. It was a great reunion with Rich and his very special sentimental watch.

I was happy not to have to search the football field area where it could have been lost. Rich and I had a great conversation as we walked back off the beach with his prized possession. He said his family was anxiously awaiting his call hoping that the search was successful.

PLatinum Wedding Band Lost 4th of July at Hermosa Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

I received a call from Rick in the afternoon on the 4th of July. He explained that he had been digging a hole to insert a beach umbrella, when after filling the hole back in, he realized his wedding ring was gone. He had had surgery on his hand, and his fingers were swollen, so he had the ring resized so he would be able to wear it. His hand has now healed from the operation, and his fingers have come back to normal size which made the ring much loser than it had been. I knew it was a busy day at the beach, but also knew that as soon as the people were gone, the county would be cleaning the beaches with their machines, so we could not wait. I told him I would get there as soon as I could, so we arranged to meet.

I got to the beach and Rick met me as I walked out to the area. He brought me over to where he and his family were enjoying their day. He showed me where he believed the ring to have come off. I readied my equipment and began to search. I did not find the ring in that area, so I asked Rick if he would remove the umbrella because its steel shaft was interfering with the search. He agreed, and as he approached the umbrella, I stepped back from the area, took a few swings, and got a real solid tone in the headphones. I asked Rick to hold off pulling the umbrella, because I believed I had found his ring. I scooped, shook out the sand, and there it was. The ring had flipped back as he was digging, and ended up a little out of the area he thought it might have come off. I was glad to have made his 4th of July a much happier day.

On 4th of July,2018 I noticed an email about a lost wedding ring at Windansea beach below the La Jolla cliff during the arising tide. I emailed the wife back that I’m willing to help search for it but will have to wait until low tide early the following morning.
I sent her my cell number so we could communicate quicker plus was able to set up a time to meet Chris who is the husband/Owner of the buried wedding band in the wet sand.

At 6:30am I showed up to the Scene of the Lost Ring nearly 30 min early cause I expected lots of traffic but must mention that the other enthusiasts Detector Guys are at many beaches searching for what they claim as “Treasures” this time of year on 4th of July.

Fortunately when I met Chris there was no sign of beach combers and the spot he showed me where the ring dropped out of a pocket was Virgin grounds with zero drag marks or holes.

Chris did also have an accurate/descriptive area where the ring could be buried so I started in a standard grid pattern search dragging my sand scoop up & down the zone when I heard a deep target nearly 7-10” down then WARNED him this could be just a bottle cap or such trash?? Though,,also could be your ring?? After I got it out of the 3rd scoop on to the towel line I heard a hole in the center of it indicating a ring on my machine while knowingly,,I shook the scoop out uncovering Chris’s Lost wedding ring as he watched! ((Boom)). Chris was electrifyied and I was extatic. I am still amazed after 5 years of returning such precious metals that this gets me excited as much as anyone else,Like as if it’s my first ring return .😇 Much to yearn for there is!

I have many types of special metal detectors for each scenario with over a decade in use but these searches do rely vastly on the timing of the Calls/Tides/Surf conditions/Beach sifting machines/Local beach combers..etc.

Rings Found Near Champlain Islands, Vermont

Got a call 2 days ago after I got home from work. It was a gentleman who said his wife had lost her engagement ring and her wedding band while swimming and relaxing with their 2 young kids at a State park about an hour from my house. He was born and grew up in Vermont, then joined the military. They got married, started a family and found work down on the East coast. They were in VT for the week visiting family and they all had gone to the park, being a great place to be with the air temperatures in the scorching 90’s.
The rings were beautiful platinum and diamond rings that he had custom made for her. He was so glad to reach me and said he needed help urgently. Being lost in a public area, I knew we needed to search immediately. I offered to come right away and he said they would all stay to show me the areas she had been.
I got there at 7:00, met everyone and found out where the search was to be. At some point she had taken her rings off and put them in her hat for safekeeping. Later, she put her hat on, not thinking about the rings, and took the kids for a swim in the lake. Sometime after that she realized her rings were missing. They did have insurance, but these were too sentimental to have replaced. She was feeling terrible for losing them.
I got started with my detector and he searched visually. His mom, very kindly went to get me some supper. The 2 of us searched until midnight that night with no luck, and I got home around 1:30. It had been a beautiful evening, but the bugs had been brutal. About two-thirds of the search was in the water, which is much slower due to the water’s resistance. I said I would try to come the next evening, July 3rd, as well. There was even more urgency because we knew there would be a huge crowd there on the 4th.
The next evening I got there about 7:00. I asked him if he would like to use one of my other detectors and sand scoops to improve our chances of finding them that night. Around an hour later he got a good signal which turned out to be a man’s wedding band, which he gave to the Park Ranger. Around 9:30 he found his wife’s wedding band. Two happy guys, because we then knew that she had lost them in the water and that no one else had already pocketed them! We searched another hour and then reluctantly headed for shore, needing sleep. I told him I would leave that detector with him so he could search the next day(I couldn’t be there on the 4th). As we were leaving, something told me to try one more pass before leaving. I decided to try going into deeper water, got a signal, which was junk, then got another loud signal. There it was in my scoop, a beautiful engagement ring! I shouted out and brought him the ring. He confirmed it was hers and phoned her. She screamed and thanked us.
A great team effort and he is now my official ring finding partner!
I love endings like this, definitely worth the hard work and loss of sleep!

I don’t check Craigslist very often, except when I’m trying to locate an owner of a ring. The other day I saw a Craigslist lost and found  post that gave too much information about where the ring was lost. I called Ryan to ask if it had been found? It had been lost  on a Thursday on the dry sand in Laguna Beach,CA. This being the beginning of summer with many new people searching the beaches with metal detectors I thought that the ring probably had been found.

I volunteered to go give the area a quick grid search. It’s a short beach with only about 30 ft of dry sand from the beach homes to the wet sand. Ryan had put his white gold wedding band in the cupholder of his beach chair. He forgot it was in the cupholder when leaving then walked less that 200ft to leave the beach. 

When I got to the beach I found a gold colored ring within the first few minutes which turned out to not to be Ryan’s ring. Later I searched the whole area of dry sand with no success.  That night I started to think about one small spot that people were lying on the sand and the possibility that the ring could of fallen out of the cup holder on the walk to the car in the wet sand.

I returned he next morning at a lower tide and found Ryan’s ring in the area where people had been sitting the first day. It was difficult to stay positive when I knew it had been over four days in such a heavily hunted beach. 

I sent Ryan a picture of the ring and he immediately text me a reply.,” That’s it! I can’t believe you found it, I thought it was gone forever”

Ryan and his wife were out of town for a few days, actually planning to purchase a replacement ring.  I returned his ring a few days later. Sometimes it’s easy to give up on a search if you think about all the negative possibilities of where the ring could have been lost. I just concentrate on eliminating the hiding places that a metal detector can be used find it.

Lost cell phone along highway, Ormond Beach, Florida….Found and Returned!

In November of 2017, Jerry was visiting his brother and wife in the Ormond Beach, Florida area and was in a bit of a hurry as he packed up his car to head north for the long drive home. And in his hurry he forgot that he had set his phone on the top of the car! Here is Jerry’s account. « My phone survived a brief thrill ride on top of my car before sliding off onto the shoulder of the road, where it survived a couple of cold and lonely nights before you, Mike, came to the rescue. I tried to hire someone from Craigslist for an « Odd Job » but nobody was interested. The day before I contacted Mike, I asked a local police officer to go out where the signal was still pinging and have a look around. It’s a work phone and they probably wouldn’t have charged me for it but I had some video on there of my daughters last Tae Kwon Do belt test that I didn’t want to lose. Lost wedding ring in ocean, Ormond Beach, Florida….Found and Returned!

Brett called me Sunday evening and asked if I was still helping people find their lost rings. That is usually a dead give away that they or someone close to them, needs help! Brett went on to explain that earlier that day he and his family were on the beach enjoying the sun. sand and surf and while playing catch with a football he felt his ring slip off of his finger. He was only in ankle deep water and he thought he would be able to retrieve it but try as he might, he could not find his lost ring. He said he was really bummed out and he slowly gave up hope of ever seeing his lost wedding ring again.
Later that evening , while at a restaurant, Brett’s friend showed him his phone and said, « Take a look at this! ». And there displayed on his screen was theringfinders.com web site and a story about a successful lost ring recovery. That was all it took for Brett to find my name and number and the next morning we made arrangements to meet on the beach.
Bright and early the next day Brett and his lovely wife, Christian, showed me the area where the ring fell into the water and I set up my four flags and started searching. Nothing showed up in the 20 X 40 foot area so I expanded my grid to either side. Fifteen minutes into the search and I got a cracking signal on my Dual Field Whites metal detector and three inches down was Brett’s lost ring. As I shook the sand from the scoop I looked up and Christina and her friend were sunning themselves and they did not notice that I had found the lost ring. So I walked up to their lounge chairs and shook the scoop so they could hear the clinking sound of the ring and that brought them to their feet! The relief and joy on Christina’s face and the long hug was evident that this day was going to be remembered for a long time.
