Eddie called me in the morning about doing a search for him. He had gone to the beach in the morning for a swim, and wanting to be sure that no one stole his wallet, keys, and cell phone, he wrapped them up in a plastic bag, and buried them in the sand beneath his towel. When he was finished swimming, he picked up his towel, and went back to his car. It was then he realized the mistake of not getting his package out of the sand. We arranged so that I could get there as quickly as I could.

When I arrived I found Eddie, and he showed me the area. The problem for him was that everything looked the same, and the sand was expansive. He wasn’t exactly sure of where he had been, so I began where he had been searching himself. He thought it might have been further south, so I continued my slow grid in that direction making sure I covered every inch of sand. After about 2 hours, and covering close to 100 feet of sand there was no recovery, just a lot of foil and bottle caps. Eddie was losing hope, but I reassured him that because he stayed in the area his stuff was still there, we just had to find it. So I got back to my starting point, and began searching in the other direction, and after about 3 passes, I got another loud bottle cap sound, dug, and there in the sand was a white plastic bag full of Eddie’s belongings. He saw the bag as soon as it showed, and came running over. He hugged me about 3 times, and was overwhelmed with happiness. Then he told me that he is a contractor by trade, and that his phone has all of his business in it. If he had lost his phone his business would have been hurt tremendously. It was a great pleasure to have been able to help Eddie.

It was late in the day when Jaisal called. He had been surfing at the beach that day, and buried his keys after placing them in a plastic bag, so they would not be picked up off of his towel. What happened though was that when he left, he forgot to dig the keys out of the sand and was unable to find them after he went back. I let him know I would be there as soon as I could, and was on my way.

When I got there we found each other, it was dark now. Jaisal took me out to the area he believed he had been earlier (it is hard in the dark to remember exactly). He knew he had been close to the drop off, so I began to follow him as he went along the way he thought he might have been if it wasn’t where he showed me. After working with no signal, I had gone about 30 feet, and got a good signal. I dug, and immediately Jaisal saw the plastic bag, reached down, and had his keys in hand. He was happy because it was a rental car, and it was late in the night. Happy to get him back home.

Mez called early in the morning. She had been at the beach the night before, lost her car key in the sand, and after much frantic looking, was unable to find it. She asked if I could help, and I let her know that I could be there in a short amount of time to do a search for her.

When I got to the beach we found each other quickly, and Mez explained what had happened. The problem was that at the time of the loss it was dark, and trying to recreate where a person was exactly is very hard to do. She showed me the area, and it was quite large for metal detecting because of the slow process. Also the County beach cleaning machine was working the area. Wisely she stopped the operator to let him know I was coming, so he dumped in the area to insure I could search what he had cleaned. I searched all of what she had shown me for about 1 1/2 hours, and the dump piles finding a lot of metal trash, but not the key. So I told her I would keep searching going up the beach further working my way towards the beach entry. She also was searching the sand above me as I was working by dragging her feet through the sand. I continued finding tin foil, bottle caps, and pull tabs, but no key. Mez was about 25 to 30 feet above me searching when she let out a shout, and held the key up for me to see. She was so happy to find it. Sometimes what we do in our process is eliminate an area allowing the person and ourselves to think and search outside of the box. Another win!

Alfonso called, and explained how he and his friend Robert had been at the beach, and lost their car key. it was Robert’s key, and the only one he had. In fact they told me that it had broken off of the remote, and was just the key with no « handle » to grab onto. What had happened was, they were going to go in the water, so Robert placed the key in his sock, which he never did. When they left the beach after shaking the sand out of their clothes, and got back to the car, Robert realized the key was gone. It was about 5:00 PM, and the private parking garage the car was in closed at 6:00 PM, so they hurried back to find the key but to no avail. They lived a considerable distance away, so they had to rent a hotel room for the night and were going to find a locksmith in the morning to help them. After they were quoted over $600 to cut a new key, and that it would take a couple of days, and also that the parking garage manager said if the car wasn’t removed by the end of the day he would have it towed, they searched the internet, found and called me. I told them I would be there in 45 Minutes.

When I got to the beach Robert and Alfonso met up with me and took me out to the spot they had been the previous day. They showed me what they did, and where they had been sitting. I then started my search. I gridded in the direction I was first shown, and would go in the other direction when I had completed my first grid. After about 15 minutes, and a few bottle caps, pennies, and foil, I got a good signal and had the key in my scoop. I held it up to an overjoyed Robert, who now knew he was going to be able to get his car out of the parking garage, and go home. Yes needless to say he was very happy. It was great to see two happy smiling faces!

Car Key Lost at Old Muscle Beach Santa Monica, CA…Found.

I got a call from Axtlan’s mother. It seems he had been working out at the old Muscle Beach, climbing the ropes, and working on some of the other equipment, and lost his car key in the sand. It hadn’t been too long, and I wasn’t very far from there, so I told her I would come right away.

When I got there they showed me the 3 possible areas the loss could have occurred, and I got to work. I searched the first one, and no key. I then went to the second one, no key. Finally I searched the third spot, no key. I told them I would expand the search, but also asked if they had checked the nearby snack stand to see if someone might have found it and turned it in, and they hadn’t. I encouraged them to do so, and they seemed a bit apprehensive, I guess feeling the key would not have been turned over, and because it was a little out of the way, but I pressed the issue, letting them know that I would expand my search of the key in the mean time. Axtlan decided to walk over to check, and on his way over, he found the key sitting on top of a bench. Someone had found the key and placed it there hoping the owner would find it. Axtlan and his mother told me he would not have walked that way if I had not pressed the issue, and needless to say were very happy with the outcome. Always glad to help!

A couple of days ago I received a call from Terisa about the loss of her Mercedes electronic car key. She had gone to the beach to relax, and laid out her blanket on the slope to the water to enjoy the sun and pleasantness of the ocean. She tucked her key in her waist band and laid down. When she awoke from a sleep she enjoyed her key was gone. It must have come out while sleeping and moving around. She searched, and others in the area helped, but were unable to find the key. I let her know that I would be there as soon as possible.

When I got to the area Terisa was unable to meet me there, so I was going to with the information she gave me to figure out where to start my search. As I was searching a gentleman came over to inform me that a lady had lot her car key earlier and was wondering if I could help. I let him know that was why I was there, and he proceeded to show me where the actual search area was. He was one of those who helped Terisa earlier in the day. I could see the drag marks in the sand where they had dragged their feet and hands in the sand hoping to feel the key. The sand moves so much when you search in that manner, it usually moves the object out of the way. I began my search, and during the second pass got a real strong signal, dipped the scoop in and out came Terisa’s key. She wasn’t able to meet for the return until the next day, so I got down there, let her know that I had arrived, and did a little metal detecting while I waited (always good to keep practiced up). When She arrived she was very happy to have the key back, and I was very happy to have made her day!

I received a desperate call from David. He had gone to the beach for the day, and when he decided to go in the water, he buried his keys in the sand so no one could find them. The problem was that when he was ready to leave, he moved his towel, and then forgot where the keys had been buried. He called his father who found me on the Ring Finders site, and told his son to give me a call. I told him I would come right away.

When I arrived David and I found each other, and he took me to the spot where he had been during the day. He showed me where he had been, and I could see where he had been digging in the sand, so that is where I began my search. The keys were not in that area, so I began to expand the search. I was finding a few metal items such as bottle caps and foil, but not the key. I continued working back away from his original spot, and then all of a sudden a real nice signal in the headphones. I scooped, and there were his keys, about 15 feet from where he thought they were. I was glad to have been able to help him out.

I had just gotten home from my ring search in Malibu (about 10:00 PM) when my phone rang. It was Laura, she had lost her electronic car key in the sand at the beach while exercising. She had done a lot of searching, but was unable to find it. She was still there, so I said I would come and see if it was where she thought it might be.

When I got there Laura walked me out explaining how it might have been here or there. I let her know that we had to narrow down the search area because the beach was very wide, and it was now about 10:45 PM, and to do a 3-4 hour search was looking kind of grim. Laura had already figured it out though, and said we need to look for « the stick », it would put me in the right spot as close to where she had been when she thought she lost the key. At that point I was looking for any stick, and showed her a small one at which she said no it is a big stick. It wasn’t long before she exclaimed « there it is ». I looked and she was right, the stick was a piece of fencing that she had buried to mark the spot. I then began my grid working towards the stick getting a load of bottle caps. After about 30 minutes I started working in the other direction with nothing but more bottle caps. I then began another grid working back towards the strand when I found the key. I looked around (it was very dark on the beach), and Laura was gone. I thought, « she couldn’t have left ». I walked back to where we had first met when I finally saw her, she was on the phone with AAA to get a tow for the car. When she told me, she had arranged a tow, I held out the key and asked, « wouldn’t you rather drive it home », at which point she came over and gave me a big hug. I was able to make her day, and I am sure she slept well last night. It was a great day.

Kathrine called yesterday morning explaining how she had been working training horses at the Griffith park horse arena when she received a phone call. When she removed her phone for the call, unknowingly her electronic car key came out and fell into the soft sand of the arena. She had gone back with a rake later to try and recover the key, but with no luck. She was able to locate me on the internet, not really believing a service like this even existed. When I talked with her and asked a few questions, it did sound like a good chance of a recovery, so we arranged to meet at the arena as soon as I could get there.

I got to the park, I met with Kathrine, and she took me over to the arena. When I saw it, it was a very large expanse of sand, fine and deep like the beach. We tried to narrow down the search area. She showed me the approximate spot where she used the phone, so I decided to break up the arena into 4ths, and do a search for each quarter of it. After doing the first 4th with no results, and watching Kathrine doing a little searching on her own, I noticed she was sticking to the outside rail of the arena. I then found out that most of the training the day before had been on the outer perimeter rather than the internal part of the pen. I told her that I was going to change my search method, and search the outer portion first and spiral in as I made each pass. About 5 minutes later I received a good signal and dug, and there in the bottom of my scoop was her key. She was so surprised, and so happy to have her key back, it was the only one she had access to at this time and was dreading having to purchase another. What a wonderful smile, you bet! It was great to make Kathrine’s day yesterday.

A few days ago Caroline called after losing her electronic car key at the beach while on a church outing with friends. She and her friends had been participating in many different activities, and she had put the key in her sweater for safekeeping. It wasn’t until ready to go that she realized the key was missing. They looked, but were running out of time, because they had to leave in a while. When she called, I could tell she was desperate to recover the key, and told her that I would get there as quickly as possible.

When I arrived she took me over to where they had been, and I began to ask the questions I normally ask, which made Caroline a bit discomforted, and I understood she was running out of time. So we began. I started where she said they began, but that did not produce, and she asked that I go to a new place. I tried to explain that my process was slow and deliberate, because I did not want to miss anything that might have been her key. She asked me to move to another place to try again, it wasn’t working.  I could tell she, and she thought I were working against the clock. She then came to me and let me know that she had to leave. I let her know that I would finish gridding the whole area they had been in until I felt I was finished: I wasn’t working against the clock. Now I felt relaxed, and fell into my normal grid work, and within 5 or 6 passes (about 10 minutes later) I had Caroline’s key in my scoop. I figured she was gone already, so I gave her phone a call that went directly to voicemail. I turned around looking in the general vicinity of where they had been, when I saw her moving in my direction asking if I had found it. I held it up for her to see, and she proceeded to dash across the sand to give me a big hug and receive her key back. It did make it easier for both of us to allow me to work at this process the way I know that works best. It was wonderful to see Caroline go from a very distraught person, to one filled with extreme joy!
