When we received this particular phone call we could not have been happier to help out.  An Aggie ring is a very beloved item that ALL Aggies are proud of and loosing one is just unheard of, especially to a fish.  The depth of the water has much to do with rather or not scuba gear is needed and in this situation, our Garrett ATPro detectors were all that we needed.  The young man who lost his ring made a brilliant move by not panicking but took the time to mark his spot with a GPS locater.

We received a call from an individual that had a rather odd request as the item lost was not jewelry, it was a very special one-of-a-kind, specially made fish filet knife that meant more to her husband than any of his other knives.  It was a 40th yr anniversary present, none like any other he’d ever received.     Magnet-fishing attempts to retrieve the knife from the 13-15 ft water depth were unsuccessful as the lake bottom held the support beams for their boathouse which was metal also.  Since the magnet-fishing did not work we were then contacted for help.  After deciding on a date/time for us to come out and dive for the knife, we loaded up all of the scuba equipment and headed to Lake Bridgeport, TX.  This fun hunt was cut short because the item was found within 10 minutes of being in the water.  The act of suiting up in the scuba gear and submerging into the water took longer than the actual find.  Now the knife is back on dry land where it belongs and we have a couple of very happy friends.

I received a call from an individual who said he had a problem.  He bought an engagement ring, made the proposal (she said Yes!!), a celebration party and accidentally lost the ring all in the same day!  He was beside himself and even went to the trouble of purchasing a metal detecting unit but was unsuccessful after hours of looking; 15 other individuals were trying to help but nope, no ring was recovered on that acre lot in Kaufman, Texas.   Looking on the internet brought him to our website and we scheduled a designated time to meet so we could use our 15-year expertise to do a search.  What began as ‘I hope it’s found’ turned to pure elation in about a 45 minute search with success.

**** George called me to see if I could help him find his wife’s wedding ring lost in a park or along the walkway to the park. They had taken a break from moving into a new home, walking a couple blocks to a local park with their young son. 

His wife Shirley had put her wedding and engagement ring in a pocket of the baby’s tote bag. George was helping by carrying the bag not knowing the rings we’re in the bag. After returning to the new house Shirley could only find the engagement ring in the pocket. The wedding ring was no where to be found in the bag.

It was already after sunset but I felt it was important to get to the location even if I had to return the next morning. Sometimes it’s not possible for the person to meet me the next day. I’m also haunted by a recent ring search in grass where the lawnmower crew damaged the ring before I could find it. The there is always a possibility of someone finding the ring when it’s lost in a public place, so timing is important.

George met me about 8 pm showing me about three blocks where the and Shirley had walked to the grassy park. Then at the park he showed me a huge area where he had played hide and go seek with his little son. All the time he had the tote over his shoulder. It was going to be at least 4 or 5 hours to cover the area if I didn’t find it.

He said his wife looked at some of the videos she took during that afternoon. She believed the loss occurred in a certain spot. I thought that was the only clue I had to help me decidwhere to start.  I told George, this large of a search area would probably require me to come  back in the morning but I wanted to give it a couple hours before the park closed at 10 pm. He had a long drive back and had to work the next day.. I had what I needed to know and told him I would update him by texting.

Sometimes you start in the right location.. This was one of those times. Shirley was right about where the ring might have fallen out of the baby’s bag. I got a perfect white gold signal in the grass with my metal detector. Looking down with my searchlight revealed the wedding ring glistening on the surface of the grass.

I called George with the good news. He was about half way home but turned around to meet me. Both of us were excited about the successful search. I didn’t get to see Shirley’s reaction, George texted me..

”Thanks you so much Stan! I just gave the ring to my wife can’t even tell you how happy she is, words can’t explain”

It might have been easier to do the search the next morning. I just don’t like to see anyone have to worry and lose sleep not knowing if they will ever see that most sentimental wedding wrong again.

Lost diamond ring in Newark, DE…Found!

Angie found me in The Ring Finder Directory and contacted me to see if I would be willing to search for her recently lost white gold diamond engagement ring. She conveyed to me that she had been throwing a ball to her dog 2 weeks prior in her backyard and she felt the ring fly off her hand during one of the throws. Unfortunately, not only was her backyard quite large but there was also a large pond that was definitely a possible recipient of the ring. Angie mentioned that she had already had someone with a metal detector search the grounds for many hours and when they failed to recover the ring she began to assume it landed in the pond. She requested that i re-search the ground and then if possible check the pond itself. It was a big job with a lot of ground to cover so I didn’t hesitate to get in touch with my friend and fellow Ring Finder, John Favano, to team up for the mission. We arrived at the property on Thursday, May 14 and met Angie in her backyard. We had her share any and all details on the ring itself and reenact the throw that resulted in the lost ring. She showed us a picture of the ring on her phone as well. Based on the angles of the throw she described and the approximate maximum range the ring could have traveled,  John and I gridded out a 50 yard square area where we thought the ring could have landed. I got in the water and began searching the shallows closest to the home while John focused on searching the yard leading down to pond. While searching we both had quite a few good signals where we thought we had it but they turned out to be trash. We were at it for about an hour when Angie said she needed to run out for 30 minutes. We told her we would continue to search the area. A minute after she pulled out of the driveway I was on the bank of the pond and had a perfect gold ring signal on my machine. I was amazed and crazy excited to look down in the tall grass and see her gorgeous ring laying there.

When Angie returned with her 2 young girls in tow John met her on the driveway and told her I had a question for her. When she walked over to me I suggested to her we were still searching but I wanted to see the picture of her ring on her phone again. She took out her phone and pulled up the picture of the ring…John and I both commented at what a beautiful ring it was…and that’s when I pulled the ring out of my pocket and said that « it sort of looks like this one ». As a Ring Finder you never get immune to the pure, visceral joy and emotional reaction that occurs when handing over a lost ring. Angie could not contain her joy and relief for several minutes and John and I were so pleased we were able to come through for her. High fives between John and I and complete agreement about how great it is to be a Ring Finder!

Lost Pendant found in Calgary

Second Time’s a Charm.

May 14, 2020– I was given a reference from another detectorist that had tried to help earlier in the day. Lena had lost a very small white gold pendant off her necklace when it was snagged on a tree branch while mowing the lawn. When I called her she was hesitant as there was only an hour left of light and she had an early start to her next day at work. Besides, the other detectorist had spent a couple of hours and had searched the entire yard. I told I would get there asap and would quit when she needed to call it a night. She agreed. When I arrived, I asked all kinds of questions and had her show me what happened. Based on her description, I was pretty sure it would be very close to where it happened. Using the sniper coil proved to be the right tool. After 10 minutes of searching, even the faintest signals, we came across one about two steps from where it happened. Deep in the grass among the roots was a tiny glint. At first I thought it was tinfoil, but upon closer inspection it turned out to be her pendant. Her first anniversary gift from her boyfriend. I know we are doing the covid social distancing thing, but I didn’t have a chance.  She gave me the biggest hug while I was still kneeling on the ground. It felt great to get a hug and great to help someone out.

I was mowing my lawn and a tree branch caught my necklace and broke the chain, my diamond pendant was gone. I searched for hours through the thick grass with no luck. I was very upset as my boyfriend gave it to me on our first anniversary . Someone suggested I get a hold of the metal detecting club. One guy came out and searched my entire yard with  no luck. He told me it would be hard to find as it was half the size of a pinky nail and was white gold with diamonds and wouldn’t put off a strong signal.  I thought it was gone forever. Then I got a call from Evan and he convinced me to have him come out and take a look. I was so happy and astounded that he was able to find it in 20 minutes. thanks Evan, you put the biggest smile on my face.

Lost Earring Found in Calgary

May 12. 2020 –  Got a call tonight. Young lady playing volleyball in the back yard. While ducking under the net she caught her earring in the net and the diamond stud was gone!!  Since they had a good idea of where it was, I put my sniper on and scanned the earring that she still had. Off I went to work. It is amazing how much grass gets compacted when people crawl on their hands and knees looking for a lost item. I certainly wasn’t under the net.  I asked her to recreate what happened. When she did, it was evident that the stud may have been sling shotted a distance away. Started a search in the new area and sure enough, there it was. About 6 feet from the net. I pointed it out and she pounced. Big smile!!

A Broken Heart Over a Lost Heart.

May 6– Mimi called me up and asked if I could find her lost pendant. She had taken off her jewelry and added her ring to the necklace. Later, while walking her dog, she took the jewelry out of her backpack and when she removed her ring, the tiny heart pendant that her mom gave her before she passed away fell into the grass. After searching and giving up she called me. When I arrived she took me to the spot just
 on the side of the pathway where she thought it might be.  Ten minutes later, she had it in hand and tears flowed.

Lost ring found in Okotoks

Rings Can Fly

May 1 – I received a call from a gentleman living out Okotoks way. His wedding band had gone missing. Turns out that that meant he had in an off moment, taken his ring off and thrown it off the balcony the previous weekend. After having unsuccessfully searched for it in the area where it landed he called me in. He was right about where it landed. It wasn’t hard to find with the detector but it was laying totally flat with a stone in the middle. A quick search and a grateful owner.
