Denise called me, she had been engaged for 10 days and was in the process of moving out west. She had lost her 1 CT diamond ring. She said she lost it in her apartment so I knew this wasn’t going to be the usual recovery. We sat down and talked about what she had been doing that day. We teamed up and looked through everything including endoscoping the washer and other tight spots. Long story short it was located in the bottom of a container.
Bree contacted me saying that her husband Luis (they just got married in July) lost his wedding band while playing with their dog on Fiesta Island. She couldn’t meet me there to show me the search area, but, sent me a google map with a pin at ground zero, which was by a fire ring where they had set up. Going by the map and GPS, a buddy and I reached the area and started a grid. This beach is REALLY junky, so, small coil time and slow sweeping was the name of the game. Nothing right around the fire ring, so, we expanded out from there. Another pass or two and Luis’s ring came to light. Bree came and picked up the ring and plans to surprise Luis with his ring at Christmas. A pleasure to meet you Bree, and thank you for the reward.
I received a message from Larry about his lost wedding ring. He lost it in about 5′ of water the week before in the bay, and was pretty anxious about possibly having it recovered. We arranged to meet on location about 2 hours later that day when some of the traffic cleared. After I arrived we discussed the details, in which he was adamant on the location where it came off his finger. which is always KEY with a successful water recovery that distance from the shore. Larry said the ring had writing on it which he could identify, and into the water I went. Once I was in the spot he gave me the thumbs up, and I started to search. Just a short while later I recovered a ring, which I didn’t think was his. This ring had writing around the outside, but he never mentioned that. After my arrival on shore, and with many swimmers relaxing in their chairs watching the ring return, I asked Larry more details about the ring. The next 5 min. or so were EXTREMELY comical, then Larry proceeded to recite the writing on the ring, which had never been discussed, and was in Hebrew. It read, « I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine » Well, I was in total shock at this point, due to the fact we had never really discussed these identifying features. Larry is prob the most comical person I have ever done a recovery for, as I was in a chop busting mood that day, and poor Larry got his share from me. Larry, It was a real pleasure, thank you again, so glad I was able to help.
Wednesday evening, I got a call from a fellow ringfinder. He asked if I could handle a call for him. I said, of course! I called Charles and asked him where and when he lost it and set a time for us to meet before low tide the next day. I brought my friend Brian who is just getting into metal detecting.
Charles took us down to the beach and showed us the section of beach where he had lost the ring, but the tide was still high, and the wave action was much greater than we expected. Nevertheless, Brian and I started grid searching the area. I started about waist-high in the water. Brian started from the high tide line.
I had an obligation that I had to attend to, so I left the search area for a while. About an hour after that Brian had exhausted the search area. He decided to go back over some of the high tide out of the water area. His first target was iron. Next a solid hit on his Deus II. It was the ring. Great work Brian!
There was dancing on the beach as the happy couple recovered their precious ring.
I received a voicemail from Derrick. I actually know Derrick as we had worked together years ago but I haven’t seen him in 5-6 years. Derrick’s voicemail stated
“Hi Dennis this is Derrick. I left you a message also I sent you a personal message and I am in need of your ring finding service, sir. I live in Cumberland just past Skilling’s Greenhouse . My son was outside and his DeMolay ring which is kind of like a Masonic ring fell off his hand. We have a metal detector but it’s a low end one so I’m trying to find it with that but I’m not having any good luck. The ring is a Black polished stainless steel. I was kind of hoping that you could help us with it. We definitely Would be greatly appreciative. Derrick Jr is very distraught and he very dearly for everything that he’s going through with the DeMolay. If you could get back to me my phone number is 207-***_****. Hopefully we can set up a time over the next few days and hope you are able to help us. I very much appreciate it Dennis thank you…”
I immediately called Derrick back, after seeing that my schedule was full the next two days. I told Derrick that my wife, Cheryl, and I would would drive up to his place immediately. It is about 25 miles and I told him I would be there by 3:10pm.
Once I arrived, we made small talk and caught up with what is going on in our lives. Then, I asked Derrick Jr what happened when the ring went missing. He told us he was trying to clean his hands of dirt, after digging a hole. He was brushing his hands off, by slapping them up against the sides of his pant legs, when the ring went flying off towards the tall grass and or woods.
I went down the small slope and started searching the beginning of the woods and found absolutely nothing. I then started up the slope and asked my wife to get my backup detector and I would let Derrick Sr use it. Derrick Jr was using his detector, I was using my CTX-3030 and after a quick lesson , Derrick Jr was my Minelab E-trac. With Derrick Jr in the woods , Derrick Sr on the left side of the slope of me heading down the right side of the slope.
I don’t think I took 5 steps when I heard my wife say, WE FOUND IT. Derrick Sr had received a signal. My wife Cheryl took out the pinpointer and stuck it into the tall grass , at the top of the slope. She moved some grass to the side and saw the Black DeMolay Ring. A true team effort and the entire search only took about 20 minutes
Derrick Jr was very very happy to get his ring back and his father says he will get a clear silicone ring sizer so this doesn’t happen again. Best of luck to Derrick Jr in his DeMolay endeavors.

*** Daniel called me asking for help to find a white gold diamond engagement ring lost in a horse stall. He was actually calling for his neighbor, where he also has horses boarded. The stables are located in Laguna Hills, CA. which is just about a 30 minute drive. He told me that he could meet me at the stables after he purchases a tarp that we could spread the wood shavings. They had gathered 16 large trash bags of wood chips from the tack room floor where the ring had dropped.
Daniel had sifted through 3 of the bags before realizing that it was going to be impossible to search without some type of metal detector. I drove to the stables, arriving before Daniel. Aji, who had lost the ring was there with Daniel’s wife. Aji told me she had put her ring on a self in the tack room and dropped it into the wood shavings when she went to put on.
The ladies showed me the bags of wood shavings and I chose to run my metal detector over the unopened bags before going to the trouble of spreading them on a tarp. Besides Daniel had not returned with the tarp. After scanning a half dozen of the bags, I had one promising signal. I tore a small access hole in the trash bag and probed with my pinpointer. Boom !!! It was Ali’s precious gold and diamond ring.
Both Ali and Daniel’s wife were amazed at how quick the recovery took. Just as I was taking photos of the ring, Daniel showed up with the tarp. He is the real hero because he had the foresight to realize he couldn’t find the ring with his sifting method. He took time to call an experienced metal detectorist. I love a challenge and it took a bit of luck to start at the right set of bags. I thought I’d be looking at a few hours to dump 15 bags of wood shavings on to a tarp to detect over them. A happy dat for all, especially Ali .

Wedding ring found at a Minnesota fall festival.
I received a message from George in Wichita Kansas concerning a lost ring. He informed that he and his wife were working in the attic of their home. His wife had put the ring in her coat pocket and later that night realized it was missing.
I try to never say no to a hunt, even in an attic with blown insulation 🙂
George had painstakingly prepared the lighting, extra footing, and garbage bags to help with the search. Searching inside homes can be difficult due to the amount of metal, but with some luck and a pinpointer it was found in about 10 minutes. Great job George on not giving up on the ring and giving me call!
What a pleasure it was visiting with him and his wife, wonderful people.

On Sunday October 15, I finished up mowing our lawn and my neighbors. I checked my phone and I saw a message from Jordan. Jordan’s message said,
“Hi there. My mother lost a ring 2 days ago and she did a bunch of gardening and cut down a few trees. She lives in Falmouth. Would you be able to help us look for it”.
I immediately sent a message back to Jordan and told her yes I could and would she please call me. A few hours later Jordan called and we discussed the lost ring. Jordan then told me her parents , Bobbi and Dennis had also taken a few loads of the brush and garden items, to the dump. My heart sank a little, knowing that it was possible the ring very well could have ended up in the dump, 2 days ago. Jordan then gave me her father’s phone number and I immediately called him to set up a time to travel to Falmouth and search for his wife’s ring. A date was set for today, Tuesday October 17th.
I drove the approximately 25 miles to Bobbi and Dennis’s home this morning and they were both there to greet me as I parked in their driveway. After a few minutes of exchanging pleasantries, I ask Bobbi to go over the events of 4 days ago, which led to the ring going missing. She told me exactly what had been already explained and pointed out some of the areas she had been working. I asked her if she had been wearing gloves, while working and if the gloves had been checked. She had been wearing gloves and they had been checked. She did tell me that she had taken the gloves off several times while working on the property. Bobbi and Dennis also realized the ring very well could have ended up at the dump but were hoping that was not the case. A positive was that the lawn had not been mowed, since the ring went missing. This meant that it would not have been thrown somewhere or damaged by the mower.
Bobbi then took me to the garden to search 1st. It wasn’t a large garden and I completed the search in about 10 minutes. Nothing but a dime, nail and a small piece of foil. She then took me to an area where some of the shrubbery had been cut down. Still no ring. Then another area of cut down shrubbery and my detector wasn’t going to work over the cut down shrubbery so I took out my pinpointer and stuck it down and between what was left of the shrubbery. Still No luck with locating the ring. Bobbi then pointed to another area of cut down and removed shrubbery. Within a minute I received a signal that wasn’t repeating but I liked the sound of it. I looked down but saw nothing but shrubbery clippings, small twigs and leaves. I started pushing the debris aside, with my coil, still hearing a signal but still no target was visible. I pushed some more debris to the side and I saw a beautiful gold ring with a Blue Sapphire starring back at me. I reached down, picked it up, turned around and told Bobbi that the ring had been found. Bobbi looked stunned and was just so thankful to have it back. For a second, I believed her eyes swelled up a little and her smile was ear to ear. Seeing faces like Bobbi’s is exactly what drives me to help people out, when they need my Metal Detecting Services. This ring would never have been found with a visual search. Bobbi and her family had performed a couple visual searches of the area without finding it and I never would have seen it, without a metal detector.
After the fact, I learned that the Gold and Sapphire ring was a 45th Wedding Anniversary gift, to Bobbi, from her husband Dennis. Later that day, Dennis texted me and stated the following, “Hi Dennis. I gave the ring to Bobbi as an anniversary present (#45 I think). I believe that it is a sapphire stone. We can’t thank you enough for getting the ring back to Bobbi. She’s thrilled! We will certainly follow you on Facebook. Thanks again”. I just love being able to return extremely sentimental items back to the owners. It is a true blessing to be able to help people like Bobbi and Dennis out, whenever I can.
Jennifer called me yesterday afternoon! Asking if I could help her find her lost bracelet at a soccer field earlier that day, Jennifer told me she had a whole class of kids searching the grounds. They did find her pendant but could not find the bracelet. I agreed to meet her at the soccer field at six forty-five which it was starting to get dark at that time Jennifer told me the bracelet was given to her by her husband 30 years ago so it had a very sentimental value to her and imperative that the bracelet be found.
Jennifer took me to the approximately location where the pendant was found I placed my markers and told Jennifer to place other markers around the field where she thought she had walked before realizing that the bracelet was gone.
After about one hour searching her bracelet was found she could not believe how come the kids could not find the bracelet I told her without the markers it’s hard to concentrate on the field if you have no reference points to go by?
