Kristen called me several weeks ago regarding the loss of her house in the Palisades fire. As soon as residents got the go ahead from the police to return to their properties, we met and I followed her to the site, we looked for several hours for her diamond jewelry with no luck. She felt like there must have been an explosion because there was debris from her closet scattered in different areas, I did however find a few pieces of jewelry, and a large pure silver coins. Then she had me search for two sterling silver Tiffany trays, she had bought for her daughters. I searched and sifted in both of their rooms, and within an hour found them both. I was sad that I couldn’t find her better jewelry, but she was happy to have her daughters trays back which the jeweler will be able to restore.

I received a call on Wednesday (January 29th, 2025) from Alice stating that back in October her mother-in-law, Judy, had lost her ring while standing on her front porch in Scottsboro, Alabama.  Alice’s nephew had tried looking for it with a metal detector, but unfortunately, he was unable to find it.  Alice had recently come across my ring finders Facebook page (The Ring Finders – Huntsville, Alabama) via Google and she thought they’d give it a shot. I told Alice that I’d be more than happy to help look for Judy’s ring.  I work my normal “9-5” job during the week, but said that I could come out on the weekend.  We setup a search for Saturday.

I met Judy at her home in Scottsboro at noon on Saturday, February 1st.  We talked for a few minutes first, because we had both realized that my father-in-law, Lindell Sr., actually works for the company that Judy’s son, Steve, and daughter-in-law, Alice, own.  Small world!  I asked Judy to show me what she was doing when her ring came off.  She said her dog had rolled around in the yard and had some dormant Bermuda grass on him.  He was standing on the steps of her front porch, and Judy began brushing off the grass with her right hand.  She then felt one of her rings fly off and heard a ping on the metal railing on the right side, but she couldn’t tell which direction her ring went.  This was a very sentimental ring that was bought during a cruise to Mexico for her 40th wedding anniversary.  A beautiful and irreplaceable yellow gold ring with a ruby.

I began searching with my Minelab Equinox 900 metal detector.  The shrubs were very full, so it was a close quarters type of search.  I did my best to swing the coil around the foliage.  Then I got down on my hands and knees and began searching in and around the shrubs with my handheld pinpointer, the Garrett Pro Pointer AT.  I had searched the entire right and left sides of the landscaping, plus the front of the yard.  I only found various bits of small flexible metal, which was probably used in the construction of the house.  The landscaping had a metal edging around the entire border.  It gave off a loud tone.  The border was covered up with a mondo/monkey style type grass.  I knew I needed to manually search the entire boarder, because the metal could easily mask the ring.

I carefully searched through the monkey grass.  I cleared the right-side border, but no ring.  Next, I started searching the left side and I had gotten about part way down when I finally saw it… that yellow gold beaming back at me!  I was so happy and relieved that the mystery was finally solved!  It took an hour and 45 minutes, but Ms. Judy’s gorgeous red ruby ring was found!  I got in a couple of quick photos and rang the doorbell.  I told Judy that it was a tough search, but… we got it!  I opened up my fist to show her the ring.  She was so excited and gave me a big hug!  We both thanked God for answering our prayers.

Search of Burned Home in the Altadena Fire Sentimental Recovery

I received a call from Michelle asking for help in searching her burned home, We agreed on a day to conduct the search.

When I arrived I could see the home was completely gutted. Michelle and her husband David met me, and explained that they, some fire fighters, and their friends had searched the site, and recovered most of what they were looking for with the exception of a few items. I began looking for one of the items, and then Michelle asked if I would redirect my attention to another area of the house where she had lost something of great sentimental value to her. It was a small bronze sculpture of the mythological Greek Goddess Athena’s helmet that she had had for many years that was associated with someone she admired. The previous searches turned up the head dress of the helmet, but not the helmet. She showed where it had been, so I began my search. After about 30 minutes of searching, a little rounded object no bigger than a tennis ball came out of the rubble. I picked it up, it was heavy, and formed. I turned it around and saw the shape, then called out to Michelle who got very excited that this memory was still intact. So very happy to be of help.

Chris contacted me about searching his home that had burned during the Eton/Altadena fire, we made arrangements to do the search.

When I arrived Chris and his wife Laura met me at our arranged meeting point, and they took me to their property. Driving through the area just makes my heart sink knowing how all of these people lost everything they had worked so hard for so rapidly. When we arrived they told me that the home was searched already by a Samaritan’s Purse team, but the wanted a more thorough search to insure everything that could be found was found. I searched 3 different areas, and was able to find 5 lumps of melted silver, one of Chris’ hand planes, a decorative anchor, and 5 small pieces of gold including a partial chain, and fully intact earring with gem. They were happy I was able to help, and I was thankful to be able to help as well.

Spring Lake NJ, Wedding Ring Lost in the sand, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

Erin had posted on her local Facebook page about her husbands lost wedding ring on the beach, providing detailed information about the location. Several followers of NJ Ring Finder tagged me in the post, and Erin soon reached out for help. The first thing I advised her was to remove the location details to prevent anyone else from trying to hunt for it. By the time she contacted me, the ring had already been on the beach for 24 hours. Fortunately, I knew the area well—it wasn’t a frequently searched beach, so I felt confident the ring would still be there.

Since Erin had already returned home for the weekend, we arranged for me to meet her parents on the beach the following day. When I arrived, they met me on the boardwalk, and as we walked toward the location, they explained what had happened when the ring was lost. They were fairly certain about the general area, though it was a bit large, and if it wasn’t there, suggested it might be a few feet farther north, closer to the lifeguard chair.

I began methodically working my way back and forth through the marked area. As I passed by where Erin’s parents were sitting, her father pointed out some trash, seaweed, and shells that he remembered being there when the ring was lost. He was confident this was the exact spot. Just a few swings of my detector later, I got a nice low tone—one that very well could have been the ring. Sure enough, as I shook the sand out of my scoop, I heard the unmistakable clink of metal.

Erin’s parents were amazed that I found the ring, and with that, another happy ending to a weekend on the Jersey Shore.

Today, I received an urgent text from Mike, who had been camping and playing football at Carpinteria State Beach. While diving for a catch, his ring slipped off—stripped from his finger in a one-in-a-million moment. He wasn’t sure of the exact spot, but we narrowed it down to a 20×20-foot area of sand. I grabbed my gear and got to work.

Engagement Ring Lost in The Sabattus, Maine Snow, Found With A Metal Detector

I received the following text, on Friday, January 31st, 2025

“Hello. My daughter lost her engagement ring in our driveway under snow. Can you help to locate? What is approximate charge?
I live in Sabattus Maine. I have the area near my driveway and lawn about 10×30 area identified. No trees Or obstacles”.

I replied

“Hello, So sorry to hear this. When was the ring lost?
I do not charge for my time or service. I do however have a Transportation Fee. This is to cover my gas, tolls, wear and tear etc..
I will tell you that I am not available today. I will be able to go up there, 1st thing tomorrow morning.
I have 3 appointments today, including a Physical Therapy session, after my recent left knee replacement”.

His reply
“Ring lost Wednesday two days ago. We sifted thru the snow, melted it in house tub but found nothing. I would like your help to check area by car in driveway? Tomorrow is fine”.

I then asked for some more information, his name, address and what the metal was that the ring was made of.
Gary N****** is his name and the ring was 14K White Gold. I told Gary we would be up around 9:00am and I would bring some test rings, to set the detectors up with and to show them how metal detecting works.

Saturday morning, Gary Hill picked me up at 7:45am and we made the approximately 1 hour drive to Sabattus, just a little northeast of Lewiston, Maine and Auburn, Maine. I still have not been cleared to drive, after my recent Total Left Knee Replacement and with Gary driving, it was all good. I am very close to being cleared and hopefully be driving again, soon. Until then, I’ll follow Dr’s orders. It was still snowing as we drove to Sabattus and with the stiff winds, the temperature was only 4 degrees. So glad we have all of our cold weather gear as who knows how long we will need to search.

Once we arrived at the search area, in Sabattus, Gary Hill and I were met by Gary N. and his daughter, Samantha. Gary Hill had already turned his detector on, and searched the driveway, as we walked, up the driveway. I was talking to Samantha and her Father and they were
Explaining that Samantha had been cleaning the snow, off of her car, Wednesday morning, after the overnight snowstorm. Samantha was standing next to her car , shaking the snow, off her hands, when she felt the ring go flying off her finger. She was uncertain, as to which way the ring went flying but was confident the Engagement Ring, was somewhere, on the front lawn, not to far from the vehicle, she was cleaning off.
As Samantha was telling me the circumstances, leading up to the ring being lost, Gary Hill had been searching the area, approximately 6 feet out from the car and as he took a step closer, to the car, Gary had a very nice signal on his VDI screen, reading 12. A definite low conductor and Gary said the tone sure sounded like gold. As we watched on, Gary moved some snow away, with his hands and pinpointer. Then, THERE IT WAS, the engagement ring was clearly visible to all of us. Smiles broke out, happy tears were flowing and all in less than 5 minutes. I never even turned my detector on and the ring was back with Samantha, where it belongs.
Samantha then told us that she recently became engaged, back in October, while on a trip to The Grand Teton National Park, in Wyoming. Samantha’s fiancé had even had the proposal videotaped, under the guise of videotaping some animals. Samantha was totally surprised and unaware of the proposal and it was all caught on camera, to watch over and over again. Samantha also told us that her fiancé, designed, this very special ring.
Gary Hill and I are extremely happy to have been able to help Samantha, in her time of need and to see her smile and happy tears as she put the ring, back on her finger. There is no better feeling than to see the smiles on the faces of our clients. Samantha will now be in The Ring Finders of Maine, “Book of Smiles”, forever. Gary and I wishing Samantha and her fiancé a wonderful wedding and marital blessings ❤️?

Chris & his wife were enjoying the evening at Oceanside beach in San Diego recently when his Platinum wedding band disappeared into the dry sand. After hand searching till nearly midnight they found my contact info on YELP and left me a text message for HELP.  I responded immediately in the morning and met them shortly there after.

This was an easy search being they knew exactly where in front of the lifeguard tower once the ring slipped off his hand,,It only took a few minutes & A few pieces of trash before I made his wedding ring magically appear out from the dry sand. They were very relieved,, Off to a good morning it was now!
