Ricardo called me asking for help finding his wedding ring. He had been at the beach an hour before, and after he left his ring was missing. He wasn’t able to meet me there, but was able to give concise directions as to where he had been. I let him know I was available, and was on my way in just a few minutes. It is always important to conduct a search as soon as is possible in order to increase the possibility of a recovery.

I was able to get to the beach in good time, and using Ricardo’s directions, was able to find the area for the search. There were many people in the area, and I was thinking that they might have placed their towel over his ring. I began in the open areas between the towels trying not to disturb anyone while I searched. I made one pass down the beach, then began my way up, when in the middle of the beach I received a solid signal, dug, and had the ring. I looked a my phone, and saw that 4 minutes earlier Ricardo sent a text asking if I was having any trouble finding the beach, and my reply was « I have your ring. » which amazed him. He lived close in a nearby town, and asked if I could drop it in his mailbox.

I made it over to his house, put his ring in the mailbox, wrapped in some papers to insure it stayed where it dropped, and felt great about the search. Didn’t get to see the smile, but I know it was there.

Inherited Gold Ring Lost in Park Playing Frisbee in Toronto, Ontario

  • from Brampton (Ontario, Canada)

Russell was hanging out with Friends throwing around a frisbee in a Toronto park close to the Beaches!

Russell went and purchased a metal detector but could not find his ring so he searched out and found TheRingFinders directory.

I proceeded down very early morning to miss the crazy Toronto downtown “Gardiner Expressway” traffic!

I found out the inherited gold ring from his Mother was quite large and heavy so it was necessary to start a grid search to cover a large area.

Well over an hour in, I decided to bring out my 2nd metal detector and put Russell to work! Within 25 minutes Russell had a loud tone in the machine, looked down and there was his beautiful ring!

He was extremely happy!

Lost Cartier Platinum Wedding Band at Halekulani Beach…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This ring find began when I got a text from Kawakita who with his wife was visiting Oahu from Japan.  They were leaving the next morning at 11am and my backup ring finders were out of commission.  I told him I would come over after my Royal Hawaiian hunt since they were the next beach over.  Ends up I only had 90 minutes left on my parking to go over and hunt.  I told Kawakita to meet me on the beach as I had minimal time.  He quickly showed me the search area and I started immediately.  We had some tourists in the way but they politely moved.  As I started my fourth leg coming down into the wet sand I got a strong #9 on the Manticore and two scoops later there was the Cartier.  I think Kawakita was as shocked as I was because we both thought it would be in the turbulent water.  His wife whom I never got her name was just arriving on the beach and when he handed her, her ring she was overcome with joy.  A few hugs and gracious thank yous sure made that a great hunt.  Aloha to Kawakita and his lovely wife!

Lost Tungsten, Gold & Diamonds Wedding Ring at Royal Hawaiian Beach…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This ring hunt began when I got a call from Nate who was on vacation from Seattle, Washington.  While wrestling with his son in chest deep water his Tungsten, White Gold and Diamonds Wedding Ring came off and disappeared in the soft sand.  He tried using a mask & snorkel but the ring was buried.  I agreed to meet him first light on the beach.  While I was waiting for Nate to arrive another detectorist strolled through the low tide trough.  I texted Nate « Hurry we have competition! »  I told the competition what we were doing and he continued out of the area.  Nate set some grid extremes for me and in I went in with the Manticore.  The sets were coming in crazy from waist deep to over my head.  A few times my headphones got ripped off my skull.  After completeing the grid in about an hour I had only found a silver toe ring, a broken copper necklace and a cherry earring.  Nate became quite sure of his distance so I went out and did a parallel to shore hunt.  Suddenly,  I had a screaming target and after two scoops there was the ring in my scoop.  I told Nate I believe I got it.  I noticed him clasp his hands in prayer and one look in the scoop it was confirmed.  Wife never has to know!  Aloha to Nate!

Lost White Gold Diamonds & Sapphire Rings at Hilton Hawaiian Village…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This ring find began when I got a text from Jennifer who is native to Oahu but currently resides in California.  She asked how do your services work?  I immediately called and she told me.  While enjoying the cool waters at Hilton Hawaiian Village with her partner Jordan her White Gold Sapphire and Diamonds ring fell off in shallow water.  In a panic she tried reaching into the sand and coral rubble to retrieve it and in the process her other White Gold & Diamonds ring also came off and disappeared.  I told Jennifer I’d be off work at 1pm and we could meet anytime after that near the food truck in the parking lot which was just a few yards from the search area.  Knowing this area is detected constantly I was thankful when a few targets especially pull tabs and two nickels showed up…the ring just might still be here.  After about 40 minutes I completed the search area Jennifer showed me.  While trying to decide what to do next Jennifer’s significant other Jordan asked if I had gotten to wear a little girl in a bright pink swim suit was snorkeling.  I said just shy of that and I agreed to spread out the search area yet again.  This time it paid off.  On the 1st leg return I got the Sapphire & Diamonds ring.  Then expanding from that point the Manticore picked out the all diamonds ring.  Jennifer was so elated she told me she had to hold back her tears of relief and joy.  Both rings were now back on her finger.  Aloha to Jennifer & Jordan!  Always expand that search area!!!

Gold Ring Lost While Fishing in Lake of Bays, Dorset, Muskoka Lakes, Ontario

  • from Brampton (Ontario, Canada)

Jason was up fishing at Lake Of Bays in Dorset, Muskoka and unfortunately his wedding band slipped off into the water by Rabbits Bay.

Two weeks after he contacted me and we met up at the location on a beautiful Saturday morning mid August!

The winds were starting to pick up so let’s get into it!

Jason held onto my the Dive BLU3 NOMAD floating battery operated air supply system due to the winds, while I went in between the two barges to scan the area!

Lucky the visibility, was pretty decent unlike 95% of my usual low viz conditions!

Within 3 minutes I heard that beautiful solid tone of white gold on the Minelab Excalibur2!

Cori & Jason were very happy to get his custom wedding band back on his finger!

Thank you very much Cori and Jason for the donation to my charity, The Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Foundation!! My reward goes to paying-it-forward to help men and women fighting breast cancer with their monetary needs!

I had just gotten back from a successful search from earlier in the day (it was now about 7:00 PM) when my phone rang, and a gentleman was wondering if I could help locate his lost wedding ring. Well my wife was on the way home with our dinner, so I asked some questions about the loss, and figured there was a good possibility of a recovery, but wanted to have my dinner because I hadn’t eaten since 10:30 that morning. so I asked if he would mind me eating first, and then I would come. He agreed, and I told him I would let him know when I was leaving.

Rob told me that he would meet me at the beach, but I got there a bit earlier than he did. He had given me an area to search, but because it was dark, and the sand all looks the same, I looked around for traces of a search in the sand. I did find an area in the vicinity he had given me that looked like someone had been searching for something, so I began to search as I waited for Rob to come. I searched the whole area with no success, and became a little dismayed until Rob showed up, and let me know I was looking in the wrong place. He lead me to where he remembered him being earlier that day, and I began a new search. I swung my detector twice, got a good strong signal, scooped the sand, and had Rob’s wedding ring to hand back to him. He was astonished that the recovery happened so fast, but the fact that he was there to correct my search area made all the difference. He was very happy, and I believe he said that he and his wife were celebrating their wedding anniversary in 3 months. What a great end to a long day.

Lost Cross at Beach, Brant Beach NJ, LBI, Recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

Brant beach LBI ring finder

How to find a ring in the sand

Ring finder lbi beach haven ship bottom I was at a family picnic when I received a call from Anthony, stating that he had just lost his beautiful cross on the beach, somewhere in the area they were sitting. It was early afternoon and I told him I would be able to swing by soon, and to secure the area so nobody else came and setup their beach things in the exact same spot. Anthony assured me that was not a problem because they were there for the entire day, plus the fact he was very anxious to get his cross back where it belonged around his neck. We spoke about the events leading up to the mishap, that’s when he told me about the big creator he and his friends had dug that day in the sand where they were sitting. He said they had all been digging around looking for the cross for quite a while, but were positive it must be there somewhere, because he had spent the best part of the morning there, digging. It was then I asked them to please stop digging otherwise the cross may get buried to deep for my machine to pick it up. When I arrived I could see the creator from the dune walkover, and it was pretty big. Sure enough, it was close to 4′ deep, and roughly 6′ in circumference. I hopped in, scanned the entire bottom and the walls, without even a squeak of a sound from my metal detector. Next, I scanned the piles of sand they had pulled out of the hole with no luck either. I asked them to pull the piles down lower, to an average of no more than 10″ higher than the regular beach level. Once again, no luck anywhere, so only one more place to look was the bottom, after they pulled about 10″ of sand out. Now, with all the sand moving, I assured that the cross was positively NOT in, or anywhere around the crater. So, back to the drawing board, where he mentioned they were tossing a football on the tide line earlier, and that his friend did tackle him there. I told him I really wish he mentioned that earlier, as the tide had been rising very quickly. Once he showed me the area, the cross was in my scoop within 2 minutes. If Anthony told me that one detail of the day, my search would have started there, and all the sand moving could have been eliminated. Lost of detective work is needed to rescue items from their hiding places.

Lost Tiffany Platinum Wedding Band at Ala Moana Beach…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This ring find began when I got a text from Sam who was on her Honeymoon with her husband Gareth, both from Sydney, Australia.  She asked if I had ring finding services for Ala Moana Beach.  Gareth was in the water hunting with a mask and snorkel and if he couldn’t find the Platinum ring,  I told her I could but needed some details.  Since it was late evening we decided to meet at 6:30 the next morning.  When Sam & Gareth arrived they took me down to the area to develop my grid.  I like to start right and work left.  This morning the beach was at a low tide and the water was clear.  On the first leg no targets whatsoever.  On the next leg at my maximum depth I got a nice tone but it was a nickel.  I turned toward shore and got another target with the same numbers thinking it was another nickel so I was surprised when a huge brand new Tiffany Platinum Band was glistening in my scoop.  Gareth & Sam were sitting on the shore and I yelled to them I had found it.  I think they were in utter shock as I had only been hunting for 3-4 minutes.  Gareth was obviously relieved and he told me he had been up most of the night concerned about the loss.  Honeymoon saved!  Aloha to Gareth & Sam!

Survey Pins found in Kelowna

  • from Kelowna (British Columbia, Canada)
Contact:

My usual requests are for assistance with lost jewellery items, yesterday was to locate a property survey pin. After viewing the area, I identified 3 problems, the neighbours metal fence, a large tree with roots in the area, and a large Sanitary manhole cover close by. There were many signals in the location, many being large signals, one was either a pipe or a cable, but my smaller coil searched between them and gave me the signal I was looking for, a short consistent blip. we dug finding rocks with my probe. My pinpointer showed that after every rock, we were getting closer. At 14 inches depth I felt a square item that proved to be the pin. I was impressed that we found the pin in such a target rich environment, we measured from the found pin amd located the other back yard pin. The homeowner was excited and thankful, his estimate from a survey company was between $1,000 and $2000.
