I got a call today from Charlie who was in town for a wedding in Santa Barbara with his wife. They were from Columbus Ohio so being that there are no beaches there everyone in the wedding was playing in the water at East Beach. Charlie was playing football in the water when he felt his wedding ring slip off his finger. He was waste deep and even though he swiped and searched his ring was gone. So Charlie did the only thing he could do, he called Dave The RingFinder to get his wedding ring back.

I checked the tides and as luck would have it we had 2 hours until low tide so now was the time to get in the water and find Charlie’s ring. After sitting in traffic for nearly all of those two hours thanks to Cal Trans constant freeway fixes, I finally met Charlie in the parking lot and together we went into the water. Charlie had been all over the area playing catch and diving into waves so I knew I just had to be patient and grid slowly as I always do. After a couple trash targets I moved a little closer to shore and started to grid parallel to the shore when I got a 22 on my Minelab Manticore. I was waist deep so getting my scoop in behind the waves took me a minute but I was finally able to scoop the target out.

It took me minute to sift through the rocks and when I did I saw the beautiful white gold men’s wedding band in the bottom of the scoop. I looked over at Charlie and nodded that I had his ring. He ran up on me, saw his ring and bear hugged me in the water. Another vacation to Santa Barbara saved by Dave The RingFinder! We got back to my car and I got to pray over Charlie and his ring and we thanked God for helping lead us to the ring because finding a ring in the ocean requires a lot of help from above!

It was a lazy Sunday afternoon until it wasn’t. I got a call from Christian who was leaving Santa Barbara to go back home to Golden Colorado. On the last day of his families vacation he had been digging in the sand on north side of the pier at West Beach in Santa Barbara when he discovered his Platinum wedding band was gone. They tried frantically to search in the sand but platinum rings are heavy and every push of the sand just served to bury it further out of reach. He realized that they needed to get to the airport so they didn’t miss their flight so he did the only thing he could do, he called Dave The RingFinder.

I got a late night call from Lena, a student at UCSB. She had been out for a walk on the beach below the bluffs in the evening when she noticed her two rings were missing off her fingers. She was sure she had them the hour prior so the hunt was on but it was dark, the tide was coming up and she needed someone who was good at using a metal detector. So she did the only thing she could, she called Dave The RingFinder.

Since it was late I told her I would get out there first thing in the morning and recover the rings. I got a late text last week from Aramis — he had lost a very special and important ring the evening before at Carpinteria State Beach. He had a general idea of where the loss had occurred, so I headed out hoping for an easy recovery. When I got to the beach it was packed! We’ve been much warmer than normal the past week, so everyone who could get out to the beach in Carpinteria had done just that. An easy recovery just became a lot more difficult.

Aramis mentioned the area was by a hole dug in the sand. Unfortunately, this stretch of beach had about 8 holes, and next to each one were kids playing. I got a call yesterday evening from Ashley who had lost her wedding ring at East Beach in Santa Barbara. As what usually happens, she had given her mom her rings so she could go for a swim and not have to worry about losing them. I got a text yesterday afternoon from Denise. She was in a bit of a panic because she had just lost her wedding ring of 40 years at Mondos while she was swimming in the ocean. She was able to give me the exact time of 1:20pm because in her words, she just felt it slip right off in about 6 feet of water while she was swimming. The tide at that time was around a 2.5 so I checked the tides and I had one chance to recover the ring if I could get far enough out in the water and that was at 3:45am the next day.

There were several things stacked against me. She didn’t know exactly how far out she was, there was absolutely no moonlight whatsoever and the beach at Mondo’s has been inundated with seaweed both in the water and on the sand so this was going to be a miracle. So I prayed and got to Mondo’s at 3:30 this morning. With the tide being a -1.3 I was able to get pretty far out but unfortunately not far enough as the ring was further out than I had hoped. I slowly started working my way out and when I was nearly waste deep I finally got a target that made sense. In between waves I positioned my scoop behind my Minelab manticore and dug. Instead of getting it though the waves had caused me to push the target away rather than in my scoop. I steadied myself again, waited for the wave to pass and scooped and this time I had Denise’s ring! Dave The RingFinder with another ring recovery this time in the ocean!

Yesterday afternoon I got  call from Ross explaining that his wife had lost her wedding ring at the beach in the Pierpont area of Ventura. She had been brushing off some sand and in doing so her ring flew off to an unknown stretch of sand. I was out of town at that moment so I told Ross I would get out there at sun up Monday morning and recover the ring for them. He sent me a pin of the general location and I assured him that if it was there I would find the ring.

As stated I got out there just before the sunrise and started working the area gridding and expanding as I went. Jen met me out there and we determined that I should move a bit south and grid there. Late last night I got a text from Steve who was camping at ThorneHill Broome Beach just north of Malibu. He and his wife had been stargazing on the sand when he went to get up and as he did his platinum ring fell off and buried itself in the dry sand. It was late, it was dark and searching was futile so Steve did the next best thing and searched the internet and found Dave The RingFinder. I messaged him back that I would be there bright and early the next morning and get his ring back to him so he could enjoy the rest of his camping stay.

I met Steve at 6:45am at the picnic table area where the loss occurred. The problem of finding his ring became apparent almost immediately in that picnic tables at beaches in Southern California are loaded with every bit of metal trash there is. Last night I got a call from a number from Hungary. I figured I was getting spammed so I let it go to voice mail. What it was though was a family from Hungary on a once in a lifetime vacation in the U.S. had been swimming in the ocean across from their Hotel Mar Monte in Santa Barbara. Violet had been standing knee deep at high tide when a sneaker wave came up and knocked her down and her wedding ring fell off into the surf. The other problem was they were leaving the next day (today at 11am) so I needed to get there fast and early. I hit the road at 4am so I could get out on East Beach at 5am. I got to the location and began a grid search from the slope down into the water. On my fourth pass I got the sound I had been looking for on my Minelab Manticore and after 3 scoops I could hear clanging in the scoop but I couldn’t see due to the darkness. I grabbed my phone and turned on the flashlight and there it was, Violet’s ring!

I got a text late on July 3rd from Jen who was visiting the town of Goleta from Phoenix to visit family. They had made a trip up to Gaviota state beach and had been playing on the beach and in the water when Jen noticed her wedding ring was missing. She had been in 3 places while at the beach and she wasn’t sure which one was where it came off. One of these places was in the water as she had been playing with her kids in the shore break. She was concerned that her ring was lost for good as she and her family were leaving to go back to Phoenix in a few days and fortunately she found Dave The RingFinder after a quick search for lost ring recovery on Google.

I checked the tide table for when she lost it so I could see if the next low tide could help us out. There was a 0.0 at 7am so I told her I would head up there first thing in the morning. It took 3 scoops of my CKG scoop to remove it but when I sifted in the water Jen’s ring emerged from the sand!
