Lost Platinum with Black Diamonds & Blue Sapphires Wedding Band at Waikiki Beach…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This ring find began when I got a call from Ray saying his husband Mike had lost his Platinum with Black Diamonds & Blue Sapphires Wedding Band in the dry sand on Waikiki Beach, just in from the Duke Kahanamoku Statue. They arrived from New York and were celebrating their one year Anniversary. I told Ray we could meet at the Waikiki Police Station and he could show me where on the beach to look. I arrived about 20 minutes later and we walked down to the beach area. To my surprise there was a 4 inch deep square box emptied of sand where they had been sifting the sand through a net in hopes of finding the ring. That had taken a few hours. Mike told me before he went in the water he wrapped his ring in a T-Shirt and when he returned he opened the shirt forgetting that moment the ring was inside, it fell out and disappeared somewhere in the sand. I asked Mike to draw a grid in the sand and essentially it was the 30 by 20 foot box where they had removed the sand. I started the search and on the first grid East & West I didn’t find the ring only a bullet casing and a few coins. I asked which direction I should extend the grid and they agreed towards a palm tree. I decided since there were no tourists in our area I should extend in every direction possible. I started the expanded grid North & South this time and on about the fifth pass I got a loud #16 on the Nox and in one scoop there was Mike’s unique ring in the scoop. It was actually out of the original grid and in the opposite direction of the palm tree. Sadly I thought, all that sand sifting from the wrong area. Regardless, Anniversary saved! Aloha to Mike & Ray.

Lost Gold and Green Quartz Stone Engagement Ring at Ulua Lagoon Ko Olina Resort…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This ring hunt began when my fellow ring finder on Maui Dave Sheldon texted, « Inbound ring hunt for you. Good Luck. » I then received a call from Dustin who was on a family vacation from Salt Lake City, Utah. While his daughter Sophee was in the water she noticed sand lodged in between the setting and the stone. She took her ring off to rinse and it slipped out of her fingers and into the shallow water between her legs. She thought she could just reach down and grab it, but the water was just slightly murky and she didn’t have any goggles to search. She yelled for her three sisters Sydnee, Saydee and Stevee to help her search but initially they thought she was joking. When she screamed she wasn’t they came over immediately and tried to help. Sophee started to cry and told her fiance’ Teagan the ring was taken by the ocean and they probably weren’t going to see it again. They frantically searched for about an hour and as the sun went down the water was really getting cold. Sophee was crying so much she could barely see anymore. The mask she was wearing kept fogging up to make matters worse. Finally, after reaching Dave on Maui Sophee’s father Dustin got my number. The funny part was Dustin said I was a « ring finder » so I’m sure he can find it. If it was « ring searcher » I wouldn’t be so sure. Dad’s have the best humor in difficult times! The sun was setting fast so thankfully traffic across Oahu allowed me to get there in 30 minutes. Upon arrival, Teagan and Sophee helped me create a grid and I started the search. After the hunt I didn’t find the ring so I told them let me go over and expand the grid. Sure enough on about the third grid in calf deep water I got a loud number « 8 » on the Nox and in one scoop I could just see a ring in the twilight. Sophee and Teagan were amazed I found it and the location was much closer to the shoreline then they imagined. Tides can deceive the hunter! Vacation saved! Aloha to Sophee & Teagan!

John lives in Lake Forest, CA., he had been gardening in his backyard the day he discovered his gold wedding ring was missing from his finger. He had worn that ring for almost fifty years. Although he didn’t discover it missing till later that evening while eating dinner. He felt that the ring had to be somewhere in the backyard because he not been anywhere else that day.

Four weeks passed and his efforts to search the planters and small area of grass for his special ring were not successful. This week he and hid wife, Wanda were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. His son suggested that he try calling a member of TheRingFinders. That was how John found my contact information.

I met John and Wanda that same afternoon. He showed me his backyard with several planters filled with beautiful flowers and other ornamental plants. The lawn area was small, maybe less than 40’x40’, but the ring could have been stepped on and hiding under the surface. John told me that he believed it could have been in one of the flower beds, where he had applied 6” of mulch.

It took a while to scan the lawn and some of the flower beds with my metal detector. The ring did not show up. The last resort is to pull out the Garett AT handheld pinpointer (metal detector). By this time I was running out of areas to search. Using the pinpointer, requires crawling around on my hands and knees, poking the small probe into places the larger metal detector couldn’t penetrate. All the time taking care not to damage any of plants.

I got half way around the planters to a small elevated water fountain, when I got a good signal from the detector. I had to bend down to see under the fountain and there was John’s gold ring.

It was a good day and as I watched John looking and holding his ring I could feel the emotion of the moment. This is my reward for doing this, I have the experience, the equipment, the time and the Patience to help people find their sentimental keepsakes. Another day in Paradise

Lost Rose Gold and Tantalum Wedding Band at Naia Lagoon Ko Olina…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This Ring Find began Tuesday afternoon when I got a call from Alena who was on vacation from Oregon and staying at the Ko Olina Resort with her husband Yevgeniy. While on the beach her husband noticed his Rose Gold and Tantalum Ring was missing from his finger. He wasn’t sure when it came of but was sure it was either when he was playing volleyball or when he jumped in and swam in the lagoon to cool off. Since it might require scuba I told Alena the best day would be Thursday afternoon low tide as the surf was at the moment crashing on the North and West facing shorelines. I assured her no one else would get the ring as I was the only metal detectorist allowed on Ko Olina Resort. When I arrived Thursday Alena & Yevgeniy were waiting for me on the beach. I had Yevgeniy draw a box in the dry sand where he had been playing volleyball and then in the wet sand on the left and right grid marks from where he was in the water of the lagoon. I told them they could go relax while I did the hunt as it could take quite awhile especially if I had to go in the water. I fired up the Nox and first searched the Volleyball area with no luck. Since Yevgeniy said he ran to the water I figured I better search the sand going towards the water. On the second leg of that grid I got a loud number « 8 » on the Nox and in one scoop there was his unique rose gold and tantalum ring in the scoop. This is where experience grid hunting paid off because it was about six feet outside the volleyball grid area towards the lagoon. I held up the ring and Alena was still on the beach and she came running down in disbelief. Yevgeniy had told her he was pretty sure it was gone forever and didn’t think it would be found. He had to provide someone a ride and had left the resort so, Alena texted him the good news. Vacation saved! Aloha to Alena & Yevgeniy!

Lost White Gold and Silver Bridal Set Rings with Diamonds Found in Jackson Michigan

Sentimental Heirlooms…..

……As Abbie was unloading groceries from her vehicle the other night one of the bags broke. As she was picking up the contents, her soldered wedding rings came off. Frantically looking in the dark with her husband brought no luck. The next morning another search commenced with the same result. The rings have been passed down thru the family for many generations and irreplaceable. On site there was about 3 inches of snow, along with compacted snow from her prior searches and the vehicle being moved. A quick turn on and go with my MXT metal detector had me searching quickly. I was looking for a white gold signal on the MXT meter and running out of searchable real estate I got a higher read than usual. Pulling the depth switch it read 0/1 inch deep. I got out my pin pointer and got a signal, and under a shoeprint, compressed under the snow her beautiful rings came to light! I waved for Abbie to come over and she excitedly asked if I found it. She reached down, lifted it from the snow and began the thawing process. Once dried, I looked at it with my loupe magnifier and discovered one of the rings was white gold and the other sterling silver!… which explained the unusually high meter read and something Abbie didn’t know. With that information she was even more fascinated and wanted to find out more about the rings, and with her daughter in arms the lil one was reinforcing the well kept promise for now and to come.

After finding my previous ring that was lost for 15 years, a friend of that person’s saw his post and posted that they wanted me to try to find his. I reached out to them and found out his lost ring was lost for over 15 years. This time it was a NC STATE college class ring. Ed lost it while mowing and throwing limbs into the wooded areas. It took me four hours to find it after searching on the opposite side most of the morning. I finally got a VDI 68 range that wasn’t a piece of aluminum or a bullet casing. I had finally found it after an exhausting four hours of intense searching and dedication of moving leaves and limbs in one area. I was driven, persistent and determined to find his ring. He was 100% certain it was out there. I couldn’t give up, I just had to keep swinging, until it was found.

Today was another happy story! I got a text message from Tim, who saw a post on a local buy sale trade site. He told me he had lost his ring 15 years ago while doing yard work. He normally puts it in his little pocket of his jeans when he does yard work. As he put it in his pocket, he either pulled it back out as his fingers slid out or it missed the pocket all together and just fell to the ground.

We set up a date/time for me to try to find his ring. I met up with him at his house and he gave me the lay of the land. He went over his movements from 15 years ago and gave me a general area of where he lost it. After about 35 mins, I get a VDI 55 on my Garrett AT MAX. I popped the plug and BOOM I saw round, gold & shiny!! Pulled it out, cleaned it off and drove it to where Tim worked. He was supper happy and excited, as he didn’t expect me to find it!

Men’s Tungsten Wedding Band Lost in the Driveway…FOUND Bessemer, Alabama!

  • from Huntsville (Alabama, United States)

On Tuesday afternoon (January 18th, 2022), I was driving on I-65 north traveling home to Huntsville, Alabama.  I had just finished a nice long weekend getaway at Panama City Beach, Florida.  I was visiting my parents at a condo they were renting and went metal detecting with my dad.

I was towards the end of my 6-hour trip back and had just passed the Birmingham area when I received a text message from Daniel.  I had my car read the message and discovered that Daniel had lost his Tungsten wedding band somewhere in his gravel driveway in Bessemer, AL.  Perfect timing!  I was literally 40 minutes from his location and had all of my metal detecting gear in my car.  Had I been in Huntsville, it would’ve added an extra hour to my travel time.  I immediately called Daniel, told him where I was, and asked if I could reroute to his location.  He said absolutely!  I got off at the next exit, back on I-65 (but now in the southbound lane), and was on my way to Bessemer!

I met Daniel at the end of his driveway.  I didn’t want to pull in too far depending on where he lost his wedding band.  Daniel had been working outside all morning.  He explained that his driveway floods a lot and he was adding gravel to stop some of the flow until a permanent fix could be put in.  He also cut up a tree.  He wore gloves the entire time and knew he had his ring on, because he felt it vibrating on his finger when he was running the chainsaw.  After finishing up that work, he took off his gloves while sitting in his truck.  He got out and soon after noticed that his wedding band was missing.  Daniel also mentioned that he recently lost a lot of weight, and the ring was fitting very loose.  Plus, it was cold outside and his hands were wet, so perfect scenario for a ring to slid off.

I started searching where Daniel was laying the gravel in his driveway.  I found a penny and some junk metal.  There were a couple of iffy signals in about 6-12 inches of water.  If necessary, I was going to come back at the very end of the search and check those targets with my sand scoop.  I moved to the next location where Daniel was cutting up the tree.  No ring.  I then asked to search Daniel’s gloves and truck, because taking off the gloves would’ve been the most likely time that his ring would’ve come off.  Still no ring.

I asked Daniel where he was parked when he took his gloves off and got out of his truck.  I thought his wedding band might have landed in his lap and then rolled onto the ground when he got out.  I started searching that area.  I checked one signal with my pinpointer, but the target was beneath the surface.  As I was standing up, I caught a glimpse of his silver Tungsten ring just a few inches away!  I think I uncovered it when I swung my coil and knocked away some wet grass and leaves.  I told Daniel that I had just spotted it.  He caught a glimpse as well and was overcome with joy and relief!  He was also very thankful for my assistance and quick response time.  I have to say that these recoveries never get old, and they are the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done!

Daniel showed me a video of how bad his driveway floods.  Based on that video, his ring could’ve easily washed away if it wasn’t found that day, making for an extremely difficult recovery.  But I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.  God is so good!  I thank and praise Him for another successful ring recovery and safe trip home!  I’m always happy to help and very blessed to be a member of The Ring Finders!  Looking forward to the next adventure…
