I received a call from Kara around noon today…….  Didn’t answer the call at first because of scammers all the time….. The phone rang again so answered it and asked what do you need? Kara said she needed help finding her engagement ring from (1952) that was handed down thru her boyfriends family….. So the pressure was on everybody was watching….. I asked her what had happened, she said it was New Year’s Eve and there were some things that had happened, off came the ring and thrown…… I searched half the yard and went back over it twice…… I said to myself it has to be in the bushes……..  I came back around the bushes and it had dropped out of the bushes…….  I then asked her if she thought it would be anywhere else she turned away and (I pulled a Chris Turner) I held up her ring and when she turned around she instantly froze and said really!!!!!! A big hug followed and she said thank you so much…..thanks for calling so soon KARA……..  KARA DIDNT want her picture taken so I asked to take a picture of me holding her ring……

Recieved a message from Sylvia few weeks ago. She said she lost her very expensive ear ring in her flower bed or at her son’s house or at her neighbors house. I said ok if it’s here I will find it.  I was using my pin pointer at first around the bushes.  Nothing so I was then using my machine to try and find the earring. Sylvia was talking to me while I was looking. I couldn’t hear everything she was saying so I stepped out of the flower bed.. Right before I stepped out in the grass I spotted her earring smashed down in the mud – I said does your earring look like this and pointed to the ground and she said no way. I said yup there it is.. The back of the earring was faulty and it had come undone..

Lost Ring in the yard – FOUND!!!

  • from Orange Beach (Alabama, United States)

This was one of my favorite recoveries. Not just because of the unique story but because of the great people involved. I got a call from Marilynn and I could hear her husband David talking in the background. Marilynn began to explain their story and David quickly took the phone. I knew it was going to be an interesting one when David said, “Man, I’m just embarrassed to tell you this”. It turns out that David has been metal detecting for years and the day before he was trying to pass on the love for the hobby. He was having a friend over to check out a detector and David decided to go out in the yard before his buddy got there and plant his very large, solid gold antique wedding band in front of the trash can so he’d know right where it was. Shortly thereafter his friend was finding some pennies and some other bits of metal but he never found David’s ring. Finally David had to spoil the surprise and he told his friend to go over by the trash can and see what he could find. When he still didn’t find it, David took his detector back to find it himself. You can imagine his surprise when he couldn’t find it either and he now had lost his own planted wedding band in the yard. 😳. They ended up trying a second detector and then ultimately spent the rest of the day completely digging up the grass and dirt from about a 5×5’ section of the yard. The next morning, David remembered a friend of his that also detected and thought that maybe he would have some higher grade detectors and got him to come over. Well he did bring two very good machines over but you guessed it, they weren’t able to find it. That’s when they searched the internet and found me. I was intrigued with the story and ended up actually knowing the guy who had gone that morning. I got some info about his settings, etc. from him and told him that now I wanted to find it just so I could good naturedly give him a hard time if I was able to find it. 😃 When I got there, the yard was exactly as described and there was a 5×5’ section in the grass that was torn to pieces down into the dirt. David and Marilynn obviously wanted this ring back. I won’t bore you with too many details but I used a very advanced machine with 2 different coils and we dug up some very deep bits of copper pipe but no ring. All the while, David was adamant that he had placed it right there. I completely believed him but my wife always has a saying that “if they knew where it was, they wouldn’t need me.”  Wise woman!  So I started telling David stories about all the crazy places I had recovered rings for people. We hit it off as we continued to very slowly search that small area. Finally I told David that I totally believed that he had planted the ring there but would he please trust me and let me walk down the yard a bit. He told me I could and I didn’t go another 5 feet before I got a buried tone a few inches deep. He dropped down and popped it out and it was an old penny. I told him that with the size of his ring, that was the sound I wanted to hear. As I stood up I rescanned the spot and right beside it was another tone but only about 2 inches down. David said that we might as well pop out the other penny just to get it out of the way. When his beautiful antique ring came out of the ground he was absolutely thrilled while at the same time perplexed how it got over there. I told him that sometimes it just takes another perspective and that I thought he may have accidentally thrown it over there with a shovel the previous day and that either himself, his wife or the two other metal detectorists could have pressed it into the ground with a boot while they were focused on the other area. Either way, David and Marilynn were beyond thrilled to get it back. David said that my reputation had been on the line but that he was amazed. 😃 Im so glad I was able to help y’all out. No more planting family heirlooms in the yard!  LOL

I received a message from Michelle about her moms lost wedding ring…I messaged her back and asked what had happened. She told me her mom was doing something in the kitchen. I said ok it couldn’t have gone far. I asked her her mom Eleanor what had happened. I said I will find it. So the search begins by looking thru all the cabinets around the kitchen. I even asked her if I could search the scooter she rides on. Went thru the scooter and no ring. So I looked in the sink everywhere I could. So on to the base boards that weren’t all the way up to the cabinet. There was a one inch gap between the base board and the cabinet. I couldn’t see over the top so I asked Michelle if she had a hammer. She said yes and went to get it. I got the trim off and then she said keep going we want the ring. So I started on the base board part of it broke she said once again take it all out. Second base board I came to was in the corner not more than five inches wide. I broke it off pulled it back and guess what I had found for them. The ring was waiting to be found. (The ring bounced over the the one inch gap behind the baseboard were they couldn’t find it.) I pulled it out still on my knees held the ring up and said. Does it look like this the smiles were back on Eleanor’s and Michelle’s face. Thank you so much found finding my information.

Took a 15 minute boat ride to a very quite cove. I said ok tell me again wat happened. I listened to what she said nothing changed from her story before. No luck Monday so decided to try again Wednesday after work so decided to take a half day of work. Jamie (frankies wife) said she brought her own scoop. Yup this is what she brought wait don’t laugh. When we got back to the spot Wednesday and I started looking again in an expanded area. Two hours in the search still nothing I said I can’t believe we haven’t found your ring Jamie. I’m not kidding about an hour later guess what she found with her scoop she brought from home yes (using my extra equipment) – she found her own ring. I thought no way she was in a completely different area. I said how kool I’m glad you found it. That made it more special to her. Thanks Jamie and Frankie for getting ahold of me when you did. .

I had a missed call. Called the number and said what can I for you. A young lady had said that she had lost a gold necklace in her back yard. I got her address and said I’m on my way. When I arrived I talked to VANIA and she told me what had happened. She said her boyfriend was messing around and said I can find ur necklace if I throw it in the backyard. Well 6 days later the necklace was still missing. So I went and VANIA showed me the area. I started the search and her boyfriend said it’s definitely over by the fence. So I searched no necklace yet. I went back to the edge of the patio and started from there took about 5 steps and that sweet sound was nice to hear. (They couldn’t find the necklace because it blended in so good in the dead grass, I had to use my pinpointer.) Thanks VANIA for getting ahold of me.
