Carly contacted me about finding her grandmother’s signet ring. She lost it in a vacant lot while tossing an ice bag to a friend. This was one of the fastest ring finds I’ve ever had. She put me right on top of it and was very grateful to have her special ring back.
Allisa called me last week with a unique request. She had lost two rings on her four-acre property and wondered if I could help find them with my metal detector. She had already recovered her engagement ring but was desperate to locate her missing wedding band. Another detectorist had quoted her $250 per hour, but I don’t charge for these searches; I work on a reward basis. The catch? Her property was a three-hour drive away.

I told her to go out to the area after dark with a powerful flashlight and scan the area where she had found her engagement ring. I emphasized the importance of doing it before any rain or dew settled on the grass. She agreed to give it a try.
The next day, I received an ecstatic text message. Within ten minutes of following my instructions, Allisa had found her wedding band! She was overjoyed, and honestly, it made my day too.

Sometimes, even the smallest objects can hold the deepest meaning. Recently, I was called upon to help locate a sentimental treasure—a wedding ring lost during a joyful moment in the yard.
It all started when I received a message from someone whose wife had accidentally lost her ring while playing with their dog. We coordinated a time for me to visit and assist in the search. Arriving a little earlier than planned, I noticed an area of the yard where the grass had been raked—a sure sign that others had already been combing through for clues.
With my equipment in hand, I began my search, methodically scanning the area. About twenty minutes in, something caught my eye before my detector even alerted me—it was the ring, glinting in the grass! Relief washed over me, knowing this cherished item was found.
As I worked, I couldn’t help but notice the watchful eyes of the neighbors. It became clear that this was no ordinary lost-and-found mission; it was a community effort. The neighbors shared in the anticipation, having spent the previous evening searching themselves.
After finding the ring, I walked back to my car and shared the good news with one of the neighbors, who was just as thrilled as I was. Moments later, my client arrived, greeted by smiles from all around. His joy was palpable as he approached me, asking, “You have something for me?” Handing him the ring, I could see the gratitude in his eyes. His heartfelt thankfulness was echoed by his daughter, who was overjoyed that her mother’s ring was back where it belonged.
This experience reminded me of the power of a community coming together and the significance of sentimental treasures. It wasn’t just about the ring; it was about the memories it represented and the love it symbolized. Helping to reunite this family with their precious memento was truly an honor.

She told me that her aunt had lost a ring while gardening but that she didn’t believe she knew where she actually lost it, due to dementia. My instinct was to trust « Eva » over the niece who just seemed to be annoyed by her aunt’s diminished mental faculties. And I am glad that I did.
The dirt was hard-packed but there were a few trees with ivy around the bases and one tree with a bench built in a square around the base. This was the spot Eva thought she lost the ring. When she told me that I caught the niece’s eyes, she rolled them and walked away. I did a preliminary swing around the trees and benches with my small coil to get into the nooks and in to the ivy. Then I returned to the area where Anna said she lost the ring. Detecting along the fence line a glimmer of silver caught my eye and there it was! Her cherished Scandinavian silver ring lying just beneath the gap under the fence right next to where she knew it would be. She was right all along.
We don’t get much snow here in this part of NC, so two small snows in the span of about 10 days was pretty unusual. Even more unusual was the call I got from Alex, who had lost his wedding ring while sledding! Alex’s neighborhood has some hills, but unfortunately his property isn’t situated the right way, so he was sledding on a neighbor’s property. After one of the sledding runs, his hands were wet and when he shook the water off, the ring made a quick exit onto the hillside. Alex had secured a metal detector to try and find the ring himself, but had not had any luck; at that point, he contacted me. To his credit, he made a note of several nearby visible features, so when he took me to the area where he thought the ring would/should be, I had a solid starting point based on his landmarks.
The grass was similar to what you’d find on a golf course fairway, and being wintertime, it was all brown. It only took 15 minutes or so to locate the ring, which was — surprisingly! — very close to where he thought it had come off. The ring had fallen through the dead layer of grass and was sitting flat on the soil, maybe 3 inches below the top of the grass. Those of us on TheRingfinders joke that « it’s never where they think it is », so it was refreshing to find Alex’s lost ring quickly and easily. The sooner I can get the lost item back to the owner, the better. Another happy ending!
I received a call from Dani. His wife lost two rings while hiking. The fresh snow swallowed them up and he couldn’t find them before their flight left for Spain. After talking and texting I went out two days later. No luck with the detector but that didn’t stop me from finding them. Watch the video for the whole story.
I got a text from a woman whose husband had lost his wedding ring while doing yard work. Not an unusual story – it’s actually fairly common. He had lost it several weeks earlier and although they had searched (including a neighbor with a metal detector), they had not been able to locate the ring. His birthday was coming up in a few days and she wanted to surprise him with the ring that he now believed was gone. We made arrangements to meet at the house so she could show me where he thought he had lost it. The property was fairly large and she said that he had covered probably 2/3 of the property with his yard work, so I was anticipating a lengthy search. The husband thought it was in « the burn pile », an area where they burned branches, sticks, and other yard waste. She thought it was in the pile of sticks yet to be burned (and I was dreading having to move all of the sticks to get down to the ground!). I figured I’d start my search in those two places and work outward. Starting with the burn pile, I first pulled up a burnt aluminum can, but my second target was the ring! Fortunately they had not done any burning since the ring was lost, so while it was sitting in burnt soil, the ring itself was just fine. She’s planning to surprise him with the ring at his upcoming birthday dinner.
I was contacted by a woman who had initially lost two rings, but had found one before calling me. While we were speaking about the when and where, she told me the backstory. Both her parents had passed and she had a ring from each. She decided to wear the two rings around her neck, but had the rings together on a hoop earring, which was in turn, looped onto a gold chain. She was spreading straw onto newly seeded grass in her back yard, and in rearranging the straw with a rake, she saw her father’s ring on the ground, which is when she realized that the hoop earring had opened and dropped the rings. As you might imagine, the hoop wasn’t strong enough to hold the rings securely and it had opened up. Finding the first ring was a good indicator about the location of the second, but she had searched extensively and hadn’t been able to locate it. After having her show me the areas where she’d been working, I started the search. After finding the usual yard trash (small pieces of aluminum, iron nails, screws, and a few pennies), I was able to locate her ring. In her own search, she had unknowingly stepped on it and pushed it down into the mud. Although it wasn’t visible, my detector wasn’t bothered by the mud and I was able to recover the ring. Given how important the rings were to her, it was great to see the joy in her eyes when the missing ring was recovered and returned!
I was contacted by Addison and she said her Grandfather had lost his wedding band in the yard while pulling weeds. It was a two and a half hour trip to Nashville from here, but well worth the trip. Peter said he was pulling weeds in the front flower bed for most of the afternoon and it was after dark, around ten oclock before he noticed his white gold band was gone. He went back out and looked for it but didn’t see it. After pulling the weeds and putting them in a wheelbarrow he rolled it to the back end of the lot to dump it out, so I had several places to search. I started in the lawn area bordering the bed and frankly, that is where I expected to find it. Not finding it there I went into the bed and did find numerous peices of scrap aluminum and metal that was close to the surface. About 3/4 of the way through the bed my Manticore locked onto a solid 15 in all directions and it was also close to the surface. The soil was soft so I just rubbed the surface area of the ground from over the signal and I saw the glint of white gold shining at me. That’s what I saw in the attached photo with my finger pointing at it. It was totally buried so he would not have seen it. The search time was around 30-40 minutes.
