Deja Vu All Over Again!!

Many of you know that I have pulled off some epic April Fool’s Pranks on my birthday. This is not one of them, this is a true story!

Joe contacted me 2 weeks ago. He thought that he lost his ring in his yard while raking leaves in the fall. He said that this isn’t the 1st time he has lost his ring. It is the 5th time and I found it for him several years ago. That time he also lost it while doing yard work.

He said he would be home on Friday & I had some free time, so I headed over. The last time I found it within 10 minutes. I noticed that the yard has changed. The back yard has a metal fence, not good. Plus, there is a large garden in the middle of the yard that also has a metal fence around it.

Joe stated that he bought a $150 metal detector. He has been trying to look for it, but the machine is always beeping. So he thought it was time to reach out again.

Joe showed me what he was doing that fateful day. He was raking leaves & dumping them in multiple locations. I started searching in the areas that he thought that he lost it. All of those spots were near the fences. I brought multiple machines and lowered the sensitivity really low, but the fences are just to overpowering to my metal detectors.

I moved to other areas of the yard. I searched out front where he said he piled the leaves for the township. I was hoping that the leaf machine didn’t get his platinum wedding band. After 2.5 hours of searching I had to leave, I had another appointment.

Our schedules wouldn’t line up till 1 week later on April Fool’s Day. After leaving work at 8:30 am and getting my equipment. I called Joe to make sure we were still on. He said that he completely forgot. He had made an 11am appointment to get a newer car. He said that I could come over to look even if he wasn’t there. I told him that I would be there in 20 minutes.

Joe was out back moving some of the tomato cages out of the way in hopes that he lost it in the garden while he was dumping leaves. I did a quick search and I couldn’t get close to the edges because of the fence. It wasn’t in the rest of the garden.

I only had a small area in the back yard that I didn’t finish the last time that I was here. So I detected that. No ring. I got another machine with a 3-inch coil to try to get closer to the fences. No luck. I’m getting frustrated and getting ready to give up. I really wanted to find this ring, AGAIN. Joe would be my 1st repeat customer and 1st successful repeat customer.

I saw a rake in the garden and decided to rake all around the fence at the garden, both inside and out. I did it twice. The second time around I was down to the dirt. I moved some more dirt & leaves and there was a platinum ring right up against the fence.

I took a few pictures and went to the house to show Joe. He couldn’t believe it. He was so excited; his expression was better than the first time that I had found his ring. He asked if he could hug me. We hugged. He said that his wife isn’t going to believe this. I suggested that he puts the ring on a chain or gets a replacement that fits. He said that he would look into it. I also told him that I had a good feeling about finding it today since it is my birthday.

He now has my magnetic business card on his refrigerator for next time. I said it better be for a referral.

If you lose a metal item, call a professional. It takes a lot of time to learn what a metal detector is telling you. Most people think that you can just turn on a metal detector and go. You need to be able to know how to adjust the detector to different types of minerals in the soil and different metals. Save time & money and call your local Ring Finder!!

lost ring : Never Give up

  • from Spokane (Washington, United States)

The call I received was typical, the exchange of information was made. I headed to the parking where the ring was lost. However the person that was surprised on this ring hunt was not only the lady who lost the her ring but rather the Ring Finder himself. I’ll let the pictures tell you the details and add that she found this ring on the trip over to the parking lot where I was waiting. So this is why I say never give up even after a few rounds of looking for the item.

Lost ring in Provo, Utah: Found

I got a text late one night from a young man named Daniel. He had been playing ultimate Frisbee with some friends in Provo, and had taken his white gold wedding ring off for the game. He had put it in his coat pocket and left the coat on the sidelines. After the game, he put his coat back on and spent a few more minutes playing Frisbee. Later that night, he found that the ring was no longer in his pocket, so he searched and found me on TheRingFinders.com

He was on his way out of town, so we weren’t able to get together for a few days. I didn’t want to wait too long and risk someone else finding the ring and keeping it, so he emailed me a Google Maps image of the field with a couple of possible locations marked. I got up early the next morning and started metal detecting on the field before 4:00 am. I started early because organized football and ultimate games start at 8:00 am or so, and I didn’t want to interfere with them. Daniel’s hunch about where he may have lost the ring was a good one. I found the ring after about 45 minutes of searching.

I met him for the first time tonight when he and his wife came to my home to retrieve his ring. They were very happy to have that ring back, and I was very  happy to be able to help them!

Bright Ice in the Frozen Land of Cape Cod; How to Find a Ring in Snow Piles

  • from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, United States)

Having been frozen out of the ocean by cold temperatures, high winds, and blizzards, I welcomed the challenge to find a lost engagement ring.

When I arrived at the Preschool location, I was intimidated by the seven foot high piles of snow and did not know exactly where to start my search. I was about an hour early. So I started the search correcting my equipment for the railings and re-bar in the walkways and concrete benches. The first hour yielded only one L.L.Bean button and a few pieces of tinfoil.

The school janitor came out to see what I was doing. It was good luck for me as he had searched for the ring two days previously. When he searched, there was two inches less snow that had fallen and been removed from the walkways. He told me where the wedding band was found, about ten feet from were I was searching at the time.

Lesley showed up right on time and told the same story so I knew I was in the correct area. After moving what felt like a ton of snow and detecting each shovel full I started detecting in harder to reach area and moving more snow. While reaching over a railing, I was shoveling snow from a five foot high snow pile that was between two pillars only 10 inched apart, an area too small to swing my detector.

I was detecting the third pile of removed snow and heard my detector sing out the sweet note of gold. I moved the pile a bit and saw the ring with its diamond sparking amongst the frozen ice crystals.

The rest is history: My first 2015 Ring Return search ended with Smiles and hugs all around and a Thank You card that I will cherish for years to come.

Two days before Christmas, I received a call from Dana, because her husband, Sean, had lost his wedding ring while they were moving.  Sean had stashed his wedding band in his shoe, which was with a change of clothes, for fear of damaging it.  While carrying the clothes, Dana tripped and the ring flew out of the shoe and dropped on the lawn.  The couple searched for the ring without any luck.  Dana searched the internet and found me on The Ring Finders website.  The day after Christmas I searched the lawn and found the ring in a few minutes, the quickest recovery I’ve ever had!  Dana and Sean were delighted to have the ring back.

Lost White Gold Wedding Band in Coquitlam, BC…Found

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I received a call the other night just before I was going to bed as I had to work early the next morning.  Tim told me that he lost his ring the day before while he was playing in the snow with his daughter. It was our first big snow dump this year.

I made arrangements to meet Tim and help find his ring,  I got there and he showed me the area where he believed his ring may be lost… this turned out to be quite a large area but I knew it was just a matter time and we would find it. Tim had his gloves on but remember where he took them off to take pictures of his daughter.  I started where he got ready to go to his truck to load the family but no ring.

I was fighting the power lines which were very close and these were the big Hightower power lines… It really sets off your Detector. We worked our way to the top of the hill where his family were sledding down and he took off his gloves a few times to take pictures… a total of approximately 40 minutes and we found his beautiful wedding band!

Tim was pretty happy to see his wedding band again and you can tell it meant the world to him! I have the greatest job in the world… I get to make people smile.

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I received a call yesterday from a young lady who’s nephew lost his older brothers gold signet ring that was handed down to him from his aunts late father. You can image how devastated the lady was to find out that her nephew who was throwing a snowball and lost the ring that he wasn’t supposed to be wearing.Emily went on to google to search for ways to find the lost ring, she was thinking of renting a metal detector when she found The Ring Finders website and to her surprise someone who could help her locate the ring…Me!Sometimes these searches can be very difficult depending on how accurate the person is in regards to where they were throwing the snowball… in most cases many snowballs are being thrown in all directions in this case he only through one at a specific area of the back yard. After only 3 minutes or so I got a nice ring tone on my Whites V3I and I bent down with my pinpointed to discover the lost gold signet ring in about 2 inches of snow…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI love the smiles you can find when you locate someones lost ring! The story was that Emily’s father passed away many years ago and his signet ring with his family crest was to be copied and given to all the family members when they turned 21. If that original ring was lost there would be no way to have others made from the original… OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI know that the young man felt horrible for what happened, we all learn from our mistakes and the ring is back where it needs to be and in 5 years time he will have one of his own. I love my job! I got a call the other day from a young lady named Alex who lost 2 rings in the snow. She and her husband were visiting from New Zealand and while driving up past Pemberton they pulled over to the side of the road so Alex could made a snow angel.  After getting back in the truck and heading for a friends place she realized 5 minutes later that her rings were gone. These were her diamond engagement ring and diamond wedding band. You can imagine how devastated she was! They turned around and went back and searched for 1 1/2 hours in the snow and cold… but no rings… There was one thing I never talked about in my video below… Alex told me that her and her husband were very lucky to be alive! shortly after they were heading home they hit black ice and Flipped the truck…What a bad day!!!A few days after, Alex got on the internet and found The Ring Finders, instead of renting a metal detector she called me. We discussed the search and we agreed to meet,  I would drive her and her cousin to the location to find the rings as her husband was in a business meeting. It was a good 2 1/2 hour drive, when we arrived at the location. I could tell where she was making snow angels and I thought this would be a fast recovery, but I was wrong. Almost an hour later near the side of the road where they parked the truck I got a good strong signal. I bent down and moved the snow to see the glint of gold…Only a few feet away was the second ring. The smile tells the story!
