Could you imagine how this young man felt when he lost a very special gift that his father gave him, it was a gold Cartier ring. He took it off when he went swimming and put it in his pant pocket when he got out of the water and dried off he put his pants back on, when he got home he realized his ring was missing.

He returned to the beach early in the morning and saw three people metal detecting, he asked all of them if they could help and they search the area but could not find the ring. He then found TheRingFinders online and gave me a call the next day. I listen to a story and the fact that people were already searching for the ring made me believe it could’ve already been found as a lot of people metal detector the beach during the night and in the early morning hours. I explained to Alex that someone may have already found it but what I would do is come out and search just for the closure aspect of it.

I arrive to the beach approximately 24 hours after the ring was lost at around 9 PM the beach was still full of people so I could not swing a detector, I sat and waited for a while as the area starting to clear off I started to grid search, a lady came running up to me crying and asking for help,  she lost a very special bracelet, I found that within a minute or two and continued on to my search for the lost gold Cartier ring.

I searched about 75% of the area but still had 25% or more to search but too many people were still showing up to the beach so I went back to my car and slept for a little while when I woke up it was late in the evening close to 2 am in the morning and hardly anybody was on the beach. I began my search and after 30 minutes to my surprise I found his beautiful gold ring!

I got a to say I was surprised!  I think he will be when I show it to him later on in the week. I decided to text him and tell him that I couldn’t  search as much of the beach as I needed to because of the crowds of people. I told him I’m going to go back in the middle of the week to continue my search. He agreed to meet me Wednesday afternoon and that’s when I was going to surprise him with his ring.

I love hearing the stories of what these items mean to people and I’m so honoured to be able to help continue this beautiful story for this young man.

Mobile Metal Detector Service by Stan Ross member of TheRingFinders call now.. 949-500-2136.. Available Now.

**** Chris and Laura are from Georgia, they had just finished a road trip down the coast of California. Spending  the last day of their trip by enjoying the ocean sitting on the sand at Newport Beach, CA. Their day was upset by the loss of Laura’s platinum with diamonds wedding ring set.

When I received the call I had just finished another ring recovery 20 miles away. They were staying at a hotel very close to the location where they believed the loss occurred. So it helped that they could be there to guide me to the general area.

We began the search just as the sun was setting. They believed the rings were lost about 3pm that afternoon. My concern was they had set up their beach chairs on the wet sand. The rings would not have been buried as easily as if had been soft sand. After three or four hours with many people on the beach, someone could have visually found them..

After triple cross gridding and expanding the search area it was dark. I was running out of places to search. Both Chris and Laura were ready to give up. I told them I could not leave with good conscious until I did a couple passes on the upper soft sand. Half way into my second pass I got a strong signal, dug into the sand with my scoop. It was dark so I reached into the sand that was in my scoop and felt a large diamond ring. I knew it had to be one of the rings I was looking for.

I held the ring up for Chris and Laura to see but they didn’t realize I had found their ring. They still had the sad look , that the rings were lost forever. Then I said out loud, I found the big ring. (2.67ct. Diamond/ platinum ring). It was a priceless moment, I can’t explain with words.

I took a few seconds more to swing the detector over the same area hoping to get the wedding band, no signal. Then I had second thought, I reached into my scoop and there was the wedding band lying flat in the bottom of the scoop. I had dug both at the same time. They had not remembered that they first set on the upper beach for a couple minutes before moving to the wet sand location.

A very happy couple that could finish their special vacation with a happy ending. It was a special search with emotions up and down. It was a pleasure to meet and help both Laura and Chris.

If you lose a valuable at the beach or a public area call as soon as possible .. 949-500-2136

**** Christopher came up to me while I was detecting at Newport Beach.  He wanted to know if I could help him find his car keys lost in the sand.

He showed me an area where he and his friends had been messing around and he believed the keys could have fallen out of his pocket in that location. We had two positive things working in our favor. First, the keys had been lost within the last 30 minutes. Second, he had a good idea of the place on the beach where he was.

Now, all we had to do was fire up my metal detector and find out where the keys were hiding under the sand. Ten minutes later I had the keys in my scoop. Christopher was so relieved that he didn’t have to go to the trouble of getting another set of keys and he was able to enjoy the rest of his day.

Crystal found my contact information on line. She told me that she had put her two rings on a towel that was on her beach chair. Later, when she went to move her chair under the shaded canopy, she grabbed the towel throwing it in a small tent they had set up for her young child. Crystal was holding her young daughter in her arms when she move the chair with the free hand.
It was just a few minutes after moving into the shade that she realized what she had done. Everybody jumped in to help and they were able to find the double wedding band, but couldn’t find the larger diamond engagement ring.

I was confident this would be an easy search judging by past searches.. Not so easy, I was begining to lose hope that the ring was still in the area. It was a white gold with large solitaire surrounded by quite a few diamonds, possibly it was buried deep by the other people searching by hand. I’ve also read that these solitaire rings may be lying in a vertical position, heavy end down. Three or four passes changing my settings on my detector to optimize detection depth with no success. I could see the look! from others that were watching me.  » Does this guy know what he’s doing look? »
As last resort we moved 35 feet away from where the first ring was found to check under the shaded canopy. Three or four swings inside, I got a strong solid hit, a nice low tone (12-03 TID).
A beautiful white gold solitaire diamond ring in my sand scoop.
We think that the ring may have dropped on her daughter or stayed on the chair till she brought everything inside the canopy. Another example of why I should not assume that both rings fell at the same time in the same place.
It was a challenging search that had me wondering if my equipment was working properly. My next move would have been to get one of my other backup detectors. Pulse induction detectors that get all metals with a little more depth.
Everybody seemed to be impressed that the ring was found and they said they would tell their friends about TheRingFinders.com.

Gold Wedding Band Lost at Misquamicut Town Beach, Westerly RI… Found!

  • from Stonington (Connecticut, United States)

A replacement wedding band can always be purchased, but the original decade’s old symbol of love that marked the beginning of it all cannot be replaced. Read the testimonial below to find out what happened!

Testimonial:

Ellen & I grew up in Westerly and Stonington.  I moved to San Diego in 1983 with General Dynamics.  I do software development for Qualcomm, Inc.  We travel back to Westerly multiple times a year.  This trip was unplanned, as it was to attend the funeral service for my brother Lou.  Lou passed away unexpectedly on Aug 2nd.  I had been doing a lot of swim training the past few months, in preparation for a charity swim event.  Here is a link about the charity a local News station did at the event this past weekend: http://www.cw6sandiego.com/hero-story-bridge-hope-swim-24/  I wanted to continue my swim training while in Westerly.  Since the weather was nice, I decided to try ocean swimming instead of the pool at the Westerly YMCA.  The plan was to meet my niece, Kaitlyn, down at the Westerly Town Beach that morning (Tuesday) for some training.

In order to get additional exercise, I decided to ride an old 10-speed bike from Westerly to the beach.  My wife had been insistent that she drive me down to the beach as opposed to me riding the bike.  She was concerned with my safety, but I insisted and rode the bike.  Once at the beach, I paced off the various distances from one end of the property to the other also noting the distances between lifeguard chairs.  I started at the east end of the Town Beach in waist-deep water.  When I go surfing, I always put tape around my finger to prevent the ring from sliding off.  When I did my swim training in the pools, my wedding ring would become loose, but I always managed to maneuver it back into place preventing it from sliding completely off my hand.  After swimming only about 50 yards, I had a sinking feeling (pun intended) in my gut as I realized my wedding ring was no longer on my finger!  I immediately stood up, turned to the shore to find a landmark to indicate where I had stopped.  It was a sunny morning and nobody else was in the water. My first thought was that “I can find this”!   I slowly and methodically made my way back to the starting point of my swim, then returned to my stopping point.  I repeated this process for about 45 minutes, hoping and praying I might spot the ring or a reflection off the ring from the sun.  I had no luck.  I returned to my stopping point, then paced off the distance to the landmark I used when I first realized the ring was gone.

I biked back into Westerly.  During the entire ride back to Westerly, I couldn’t stop thinking about how the ring had now been in the family for a couple of generations and that I was the one to lose it, not to mention how my wife would react.  I returned to our house and broke the news to my wife.  She was naturally very upset by the news since the ring was not only the representation of our love for one another but also part of our family history.  She told me she had a bad feeling all along about the bike ride and swim.  Maybe worth noting as to why my wife may have had the “bad feeling”… we were married at St. Michael’s church in 1986 and on Monday we drove by the church to see the construction progress only to see it leveled!  We knew they were renovating the church but were shocked to see it totally gone!

I next checked the tide schedule, hoping it wasn’t low tide.  As you might have guessed, it was dead low tide when I lost the ring, meaning it would be underwater for some time.  I started to search the internet for waterproof metal detector rentals when I came across https://theringfinders.com.  I had never heard of anybody doing this type of work.  I found that Keith Wille (www.theringfinders.com/keith.wille ) was fairly local.  I read his blog and suddenly got the feeling that there might be some hope.  I contacted Keith via email.  Keith responded very quickly and also conveyed his sympathy for our losses of my brother Lou and the wedding ring.  He assured me that he has had success retrieving rings in the water!  We tried to schedule a meeting and retrieval the following day (Wednesday), but Keith’s schedule was already full.  To complicate things a little, I had to return to San Diego on Thursday morning.  Ellen was returning to San Diego a few days after me.  Keith told me he would meet me Thursday anytime that was convenient and prior to me heading to the airport.   So, as to not be without a wedding ring for the trip, Ellen and I went to Nigrelli’s Jewelry on Wednesday to purchase a potential replacement ring.  I say potential because I had faith in Keith! J

Keith met my wife and me at 8 am down at the town beach.  It was sunny and the water was calm.  My first impressions of Keith, when we exchanged text messages and phone calls, gave me a high level of hope that he was legitimate.  When meeting Keith in person, my confidence level went way up that he would find the ring!  Keith is clean-cut, professional, in good shape, and military looking.  He told me that he teaches survival training to folks in the military & to pilots.  Cool!  Keith is also a commercial diver.  Keith also maintained continuous communication since our initial contact.  One thing I noticed on Keith’s ring finger, was a royal blue colored rubber ring.  I asked him about it and he told me it was a silicone ring.   He wore it when diving so he wouldn’t lose his ring!  Interesting because Ellen and I had never seen nor heard of such an item.

Keith wanted to meet in person to have me physically show him my landmarks, repeat the description of my activities, and get a feel for the distance from the landmark to the water.  I showed him the area of the beach/water, landmarks, and distances.  At 8:30, we left the beach and headed to Green airport in Warwick.  At that time, Keith was returning to his car to retrieve his equipment.  Ellen and I had talked about Keith on the ride to Warwick and I told her I had faith in him.  There were some good traits about him that gave me confidence!  As soon as I checked my bags and got through TSA security, I received a text message from Keith.  The text was sent to both Ellen and I.  It was a picture of my ring!  The picture clearly showed our inscription, so it was easily recognized.  I called him immediately and when he answered, I said “I knew you’d find it!”  Ellen was driving back to Westerly by this time and called me a short while afterward.  She drove straight to meet Keith at the Town Beach to get the ring.  She said that the weather was so strange on the drive back from the airport into Westerly that morning.  It went from a nice sunny morning to heavy rain, thunder, and lightning!  I told her it was the power in that ring being unleashed because it wasn’t on the right finger!! J

Keith is GREAT!!!  Keith found the ring so quickly.  Keith took our loss to heart and went out of his way to meet with us on our schedule.  Keith was very humble and gracious when accepting our gratitude.   Please, please, please do not hesitate to contact Keith should you find yourself in a similar situation.   Keith has a “page of smiles” on his website that has photos of some of the people he has helped – very heartwarming.  Every time I tell someone this story and get to the part about Keith finding the ring, their facial expression is one of amazement.  And rightly so!  They are also intrigued by the work Keith does.  Being reunited with our special ring is a blessing.  Thank you Keith for making it possible!

Quad Platinum Diamond Rings Lost .. Balboa Pier, Newport Beach, CA. .. Found

I was returning a ring to Silvia near Los Angeles international airport when Janie called. She had dropped her rings in the sand while watching a junior lifeguard graduating ceremony on the beach near the Balboa Pier, Newport,CA. I asked her a couple questions and she told me the three platinum diamond rings had been on a towel when she had been rushed to move about 20ft.
I told her to guard the location. I’d be there within an hour. Janie told me the beached was packed with people, she thought it would be a few hours before I could swing a metal detector. I just assured her that the rings should be safe in the sand but don’t tell people what was lost. Definitely don’t leave if you’re able to stay.
I arrived and was able to double grid search the area she believed the rings to be. Nothing showed up, she told me she believed that somebody may have picked them up. I believed that maybe one ring should still be in the sand. There were so many people at this event that these rings were stepped on pushing them out of sight. I had to tell her that the rings were not in the area she believed them to be. I would come back in about an hour to do a larger area after all the people left the beach. Janie was very upset and the only thing I could tell her was I will try again.
I returned to a very empty beach. After a half hour searching 30 feet away from the original location the first small platinum ring showed up in my scoop. Then a few feet from there two more rings. Just out of habit I swung my search coil over the whole area again. Boom, baby!! The big one, I now know why Janie was so distraught. It was a beautiful ring. She told me 3 platinum rings but there were 4 rings total. It was a surprise to me because I didn’t know exactly what I was looking for. I probably wouldn’t have left the area of the loss, usually it’s no big deal to standby for an hour or two for people to leave. I did start to believe that it may have been possible for somebody to have picked the rings off the towel before she had to move. It gets to be a mental game sometimes, very easy to get negative and give up. I try not to let my head run away with negative thoughts. Sorry I didn’t get a photo of Janie.. Just believe me, she was very happy to have here sentimental keepsakes back where they belong.

Platinum Diamond Wedding Rings Lost .. Laguna Beach, CA. .. Found Next Day

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Friday morning I had to pick up something across town when Brad called me. His wife Megan had lost her wedding ring set. I was two hours away and asked them if the could guard the area. I kept them updated on my arrival time assuring them that my metal detector could find the rings as long as they knew the general location.
I’ll let Megan tell how it happened.

Laguna Bch.. Megan and Brad’s 17yr. Wedding ring set. Authored by Megan
Yesterday, at the beach, our vacation took a downturn. I took off my wedding rings to apply sunscreen …. They were not seen again. Our site looked like an archeological dig to no avail. Today Brad googled « metal detector Laguna Beach » (we were thinking about renting one) and found a group called The Ring Finders – metal detecting specialists. We called one of them and he came out this afternoon. We showed him the area we had been and within 5 minutes both were found. UNBELIEVABLE!!! Vacation saved. So I have to give a shoutout to our guy- Stan Ross! They don’t charge a fee, so while I gave him a huge hug, Brad gave him a wad of cash. #wishweknewaboutthemyesterday www.theringfinders.com

Wedding Band Recovered at Groton Long Point Beach, Groton CT

  • from Stonington (Connecticut, United States)

I received a call from a woman who lost a ring in the ocean while playing with her daughter. This particular ring was very special to this family. The ring was worn on her thumb in her late husband’s memory – retrieving this ring was critical. We picked a low tide, and I headed over to begin searching. About an hour and a half into the search, I heard a promising signal in chest-deep water. Bingo! I carried the ring back to the dry beach, where the family was reunited with a significant memory. They did a great job of using the reference points around them to identify where they thought they were standing when the ring slipped off! It was retrieved even after spending a couple of days in the ocean!

If you lost something in the water, call/text 860-917-8947.

Ring Found in Sand .. Breakers Beach , Coronado .. SanDiego, CA.

Sunday morning I was checking my email when I read Chris’s request for my help. He had lost his wedding ring while playing volleyball at the beach Friday evening. Saturday he called local metal detector rental more than four times and couldn’t get a reply. Later that night he found TheRingFinders.com online, sending me an email at 1:30am Sunday.
I sent Chris a reply, asking him to call me. We set up to meet at 9:30 am outside the Naval Air Base and he sponsored me onto the base. After grid searching almost the whole volleyball court, the ring showed up in my scoop.
We were running out of search area, but the last minute find made it more exciting. Ring found 10:15 am. Chris was a very happy that he didn’t have to tell his wife of one year that he had lost the ring.

Platinum Ring Lost in Surf .. Corona DelMar, CA. .. Recovered

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Matt and Kristy were enjoying a day at the Corona Delmar Beach. They have just moved into the area from Georgia. The surf today was very rough and probably much more violent than they are used to on the east coast. Matt waded out into the surf to his waist then dove under the incoming wave. After getting beat up by the wave he realized his Tiffany Platinum wedding ring was missing.
They spent the next two or three hours trying to find the ring as the tide was receding with no success. Returning home Kristy went to the computer finding my contact information on TheRingFinders.com. I was at another beach a few miles away. After a few questions, I was able to determine that the loss occurred at peak high tide. That’s a good thing, but by the time I got the call the tide was rising again. I told them the most important thing was that we meet so I can get an approximate location. It may require that I wait till tomorrow’s low tide.
We met in the parking lot 20 minutes after our phone conversation. Matt had a pair of dive goggles read to do some searching of his own. I almost didn’t take my detector to the water because the tide was quite high. As a second thought I grabbed my CTX 3030 detector and my long handled sand scoop walking to get the location. The waves were really powerful with a strong back wash which could be a disadvantage when trying to retrieve a target. Otherwise that means when digging a target it is possible to lose it in a violent wave.
I wasn’t very positive about this attempt but I walked straight out to give it a try. Matt was at my side when I got my first signal. He got very excited as I told him, this beach has a lot of aluminum trash don’t get excited. It took probably 5 scoops to dig this between several waves. I’m beginning to believe in miracles because in the scoop was Matt’s Platinum ring.
The beach was crowded in the water and on the sand. They all were watching as I walked into the water with all my gear. When the find was made I held my detector and scoop up over my head in a victory salute.. Applause and cheers from everyone made me feel like a rock star. This was another awesome adventure and again I was just as surprised as everyone. Another RingFinders success story that will someday be a household name when people need help finding lost heirlooms.
