This week, I had just wrapped up finding a lost engagement ring for a very relieved couple when my phone rang. I answered, and a voice said urgently, « I lost my keys in the bay in Avalon, New Jersey — can you help? »

I was less than 20 minutes away, so I loaded up my gear and hit the road.

When I arrived, the guy explained they’d been kayaking near the public ramp. As they approached the dock, they tipped a bit, and in the shuffle to stabilize, the car keys — including an electronic fob — slipped right out of a pocket and into the bay. The water wasn’t too deep — about waist high — but murky and full of debris, making it nearly impossible to see anything.

I got a call from Annie, the sister of a man named Jim. She sounded worried and emotional.

Jim had lost his white gold wedding band while swimming in the ocean at Sea Isle City, New Jersey.

Friend’s bachelorette weekend in Brigantine, NJ and all you want to do is get a good tan in. On day two of beautiful weather, drinking rosé, eating Wawa sandwiches, and laughing about life, we suddenly see our bride jump up and say she can’t find her ring. We all immediately run over and are on our knees digging through the sand. It was a warm, sunny day in Avalon, NJ when Tom, Liz, and their family were enjoying a relaxing afternoon on the beach. Before heading into the ocean to play with the kids, Tom handed his wedding band to Liz for safekeeping. She held onto it while watching their belongings and soaking up the sun.

I received a call from Deb this afternoon. She explained that she was at the beach with friends and her ring flew off her hand when the wind took off with the umbrella she was trying to set up. Deb had a general idea of where the ring landed but after searching on her hands and knees, with friends helping, she could not find her ring of 40 years. Took the short ride over from home and met up with Deb and her friends on Broadway beach. I managed to recover her ring in about 5 minutes, much to her relief. Another happy client! I spoke with Ben whom explained that his wife, Samantha, accidently dropped her ring into the sand after taking it off to apply sunscreen and forgot to put it back on before standing. I received an anxious call from Heather yesterday. Heather explained that her sister Holly lost their fathers gold ring while tossing a football with her daughter. She went to toss the ball and the ring flung right off and dissappeard into the sand. Luckily Heather knew who to call. Took the ten minute ride over to St Louis Ave beach in Wildwood Crest. Tyler reached out explaining that he lost his wedding band while enjoying some family time on the beach. Tyler had placed his ring in the compartment of his beach chair while apllying sunscreen. Later in the day another family member began “packing up” to head home from the beach and folded the chair causing the ring to fall into the sand. While walking back from the beach Tyler realized what had happened and the group returned to where they were sitting and began searching for the ring with no success. They had charter boat reservations BUT Tyler and I communicated before he left for his reservation and he was able to send me the coordinates to where they were sitting. I normally do most of my assistance in Cape May County but I was available, and decided to take the 45 minute ride up to Brigantine. Once on the beach I followed my device to the coordinates that Tyler sent and recovered his ring in less than a minute. After recovering the ring I arranged an agreeable spot to leave the ring at Tylers rental and he had it back in his possession upon returning back from their charter. Another happy client!

Received a call from Amber. Amber explained that her husband lost his wedding ring while playing in the surf and getting “rolled” by a wave. Amber said she had someone else out to look for it and he could not locate the ring. After gathering details and checking tide and surf data I decided that Tuesday afternoons low tide would be a good time to try for the ring. Shortly after arriving at the beach I began a “meticulous” search grid from the wet sand down into the surf. About 45 minutes later I had the ring in my scoop. The waves were pretty rough and I myself got “washed” a few times but still managed a successful recovery. Another happy couple!
