I was out detecting till 3am and got a wake up text from Jessica at 730 asking if I could help locate her wedding band she lost the night before. I was tired but said yes, i had time before they opened the beaches up. Jessica was ment to have her ring back. She was down watching the fireworks the night before and when she got home noticed her ring missing. She really didnt give me much information as to where to look. She just told me somewhere between 3rd and 4th ave mid beach. Told me what her ring looked like. I didnt have much hope with such a large area to look in but figured id give it a try. Got down to the beach and started detecting from the end of the walkway mat they have down towards 4th ave. Looking at the sand there weren’t many foot prints or butt impressions showing people were there so i figured id move down towards the water where there were. Heading back to where i starting on an angle towards the water, i wasnt 15 feet and got a great signal and figured id check it out and after scooping up some sand there was a gold ring in my scoop. It was hers. The first and only thing i dug. I feel like i must of been guided there. I went back to my car to phone her and give her the good news. She couldnt believe it and came down to meet me and get her ring back. A great and happy ending.

I received a message that Josiah had lost his wedding ring at a swimming hole near Winfield Kansas. Recently married, this ring was given to him by his Father and held sentimental value. After searching for about 15 minutes, I got a nice signal in shoulder deep water. A beautiful gold ring showed up in my scoop and was reunited with its owner. Thrilled to help out Josiah and his wife, an amazing couple.

I was really happy to have been able to help Liz recover a beautiful diamond ring set in white gold.

Her young daughter had earlier asked her why she was so sad – it was only the first day of their vacation on the Big Island – but they’d come to Hawaii for vacation and quickly lost one of her most valued items in the ocean.

The Fairmont Hotel in Mauna Lani gave Liz our number and we were quickly on the way from Kona with detectors in the car.

Meeting Liz, she explained she and her husband had swam around the area with mask and snorkel for hours but no luck.

I turned on my Minelab Equinox 800 – it had been a faithful detector in the past and I was sure I’d find the ring so long as it hadn’t been spotted by a swimmer or another detectorist. Sure enough, within 15 minutes of carefully combing the chest-deep water, I hit a big target and within seconds, the ring was back on Liz’s finger!

We took a few photos with Liz holding her recovered ring and my metal detector and said our goodbyes – it’s always a great feeling to be a successful part of someone’s Hawaii adventure.

I headed back for the water and hit the ‘on’ button on my Equinox. The familiar starting sound, then a strange low gurgle… I tried again. Same sound, then error codes on the screen. This detector is supposed to be waterproof to 10 feet and had only been in the water down two or three… I looked again and water started filling the screen and the detector let out a few chirping sounds, then went quiet.

This machine had recovered so many rings – but this would be the last. It made one final ring recovery before dying on the field.

My wife a I were deciding what to do yesterday when I got a call from someone with an area code in Italy. I immediately gave my phone to my wife inasmuch as she is much better with foreign language than I and I wasn’t wearing my hearing aids. The young lady said her husband had lost his ring on the beach yesterday while visiting Côte d’Azur, France and she asked if we were available and asked about our fees. Shortly thereafter, my wife and I were on our way to their location (2+ hrs away).  When we met the very nice young couple we were given the info that the husband had lost the ring the night before in dry sand near the water line. Although they both did an extensive search until 11 PM, the ring was not found. They were concerned that during their search, the ring may have sunk too deep to find it.  I noted the beach was very crowded with sunbathers but the sunbathers were very cooperative while I searched. After finding several junk targets and a euro coin, I received a target with the correct VDI number. I was able to dig the spot between two sunbathers and find the yellow gold ring…SUCCESS!  The sunbathers clapped and the young couple were happy as we shared hugs. Total time was about 20 minutes . Fortunately, this search turned out to be a “Textbook” search…straightforward and simple. Don’t we wish they could all be so easy?!
