Diamond Engagement FOUND after Snorkeling in Hilo, Big Island, Hawaii!

« Rae of Hope »

We got the call to go to Hilo to find a lost diamond engagement ring on a recent, rainy afternoon. It’s an two hour drive away and the ring was lost at Onekahakaha Beach Park in the public swimming area.

Raelyn met us in the parking lot with her young son and we quickly got the full story. She had tried snorkeling for the first time ever in the large but protected, rock-and-sandy bay. After only a few minutes of putting on her mask and snorkel, she stood up in chest deep water and realized that her precious diamond engagement ring was missing from her finger. It had definitely been on as she’d gotten in the water as, ironically, she’d removed her gold wedding band so as not to lose it!

Finding a lost diamond engagement with Big Island Metal Detecting

A happy moment after finding Raelyn’s lost engagement ring at Onekahakaha Beach Park, Hilo, Big Island, Hawaii.

We retraced her steps into the water along a small sea wall which jutted into the shallow bay with little steps down either side. She showed us how she’d walked into the deeper water, put on her mask and paddled around into deeper water. As the tide was at its lowest, we decided to start at the deepest point she’d been, which was now just over waist deep. As we searched, Raelyn and her son swam and watched us carefully metal detect the sandy bottom. Every once in a while we’d ask her to try and remember exactly where she’d been, or if we were still in the same area she remembered being in.

WATCH THE VIDEO!

Several times when retracing her movements she mentioned swimming away from shallow, brown stones. I thought it was an interesting thing to remember and asked her to show me where the brown stones were. Just near the entrance of the swimming area, where she’d first put on her mask, was a small field of algae-covered, cannonball-sized stones. I decided to try my luck and started searching the area using a newly purchased Minelab Excalibur. Sylvie faithfully continued hunting the deeper water with her Garrett SeaHunter. Looking over at Raelyn, she was now sitting on the nearby sand talking to her husband on the phone while her son played in the shallows. A glint of white gold peaked out from under the sand in about knee-deep water as I turned back. I’d found it!

A beautiful, recovered diamond engagement ring from the shallow waters of Onekahakaha Beach Park, Hilo, Hawaii, found by Brent and Sylvie Madison of Big Island Metal Detecting.

I signaled Sylvie and Raelyn then turned on the GoPro to film it coming out of the sand, « live »! Both ladies rushed over and I pulled the ring out out of the sand and handed it to a jubilant Raelyn! She held her hands over her mouth for a moment in disbelief. « I’d just told my husband on the phone I didn’t think we’d find it! »

I received a call from Julie this evening at  approximately 5:00 pm to ask me if I could come out and help find a lost Tungsten wedding band. Her husband Michael had just lost it in a school play ground while playing with his children in the sand. I said I would be there with in an hour.

I asked Julie how she found me. She had been searching the internet for a metal detector to rent and came upon TheRingFinders website.   When I arrived I asked Michael a few questions and he told me he had already raked the area with no luck. He pointed out the area where he felt his ring had come off.  Within minutes of setting up my V3i the ring was once again back on Michael’s finger.  Another happy client!

Thank you Michael for the generous reward.

14K Yellow and White Gold Diamond Ring Lost in the Sand – Found North Myrtle Beach SC

  • from North Myrtle Beach (South Carolina, United States)

I got a call from Kelly R. this morning after he found me thru TheRingFinders web site asking if I could help find his ring that was extremely sentimental to him. He said the ring had his mother’s wedding ring stone included in the setting. He also said he had taken his ring off at the beach and placed it in his hat but forgot about it and it fell out somewhere in the sand.

I and my wife were on a little mini vacation and about 2 hours away so I wasn’t able to get to the beach for a few hours. When I arrived I met Kelly on the beach and he gave me an area about 30X20 yards to search. After 40 minutes and 8 passes in the grid – BINGO!! I walked back over to where Kelly was sitting on the beach and ask him to explain the details to me one more time. As he’s talking I held the ring up so he’d see it as he’s talking and Bam – I don’t think I’ve ever seen anybody move so quickly. There were a few beach goers sitting around watching and they broke out in applause and I got a number of very sincere hugs from Kelly. I love doing what I do and that’s bringing smiles back to people’s faces.

Kelly, thank you for trusting in me to find your lost treasure and for the very generous reward. Best of luck to you in all your future endeavors!!!

Platinum wedding ring lost at New Smyrna Beach, Fl. …..Found!!

I received a call from David asking me if I could help him find his lost platinum wedding ring in the dry sand at the beach. He explained that he and his Dad were heading to a beach side restaurant and as they were coming to the wooden stairway he felt his ring slip off of his finger. He immediately stopped and began running his hands through the sand desperately hoping to find his ring—but it had completely disappeared! He looked for sometime and finally realized he needed more help and that led him to search the internet. Up popped theringfinders.com . New Smyrna Beach is only an hour drive due east so I packed up my gear and hit the road. An hour later I walked up to David and introduced myself. I could see that David had marked the area by setting out two lawn chairs and his bags around an upright wooden post. He explained what happened and then asked me a few questions. It only took a minute to set up my Whites Dual Field and then I made two swings with my detector and I got a good signal. I paused and mentioned that generally during a search I get various signals and dig other items–like pull tabs, bottle caps, coins, etc… But this signal was very strong and had a slight double beep! (Large rings occasionally give that sound!) So I dug a large scoop of sand with my homemade digger, sifter and as I shook out the sand–there in the bottom was David’s 13 year old platinum wedding ring!
It’s always an awesome feeling to help someone find their lost item–expecially one as important as a wedding ring!

Wedding and Engagement Ring Lost in the Surf – FOUND and Returned North Myrtle Beach SC

  • from North Myrtle Beach (South Carolina, United States)

I got a call from Matt at 7 this morning asking if I could help try and find his wife (Denise’s) wedding and engagement ring set she lost yesterday afternoon in waist deep water.

I got there about an hour later and Matt showed me the area and gave me a great description of where Denise was at when the ring came off. I started my grid and after 30 minutes I reevaluated where I was searching in comparison with the time and tide when she lost it. I moved up the beach, started a new grid and after another 30 minutes got a great signal. Bingo!!! Met Matt and Denise inside the hotel they were staying at because a heavy storm with lightening had come up and it wasn’t a good idea to be standing on the beach with metal in my hands.

Denise’s expression says it all and she stated « I thought I’d never see it again. » There is absolutely nothing better than finding someone’s special treasure that they thought was gone forever.

Matt and Denise thank you for trusting me to find your treasure and for the very generous reward. Enjoy the rest of your vacation with piece of mind.

Surfer lost car key at 17th St. .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Found in sand

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

I just returned from a trip to Honduras. I was checking some of my local beaches for recent sand erosion when I was approached by one of our local lifeguards. He asked if I had time to help a surfer that had dropped his car key in the sand. I told him I was always available and clued him in about TheRingFinders.com on our way to meet Michael.
Although Michael didn’t realize when or where he dropped the single key he was confident that it had to be around the top of the beach, which we refer as the towel line.

Here’s Michael’s story:

FOUND KEY
Plodding through the sand after a surf, my automobile key somehow slipped out of my wetsuit. After continuously retracing my steps and searching on hands and knees in the sun for over an hour, I was ready to throw in the towel by asking a lifeguard for a phone. We spotted a person, about two-hundred yards away, waving a metal detector left to right, Mr. Stan Ross.

I have always been skeptical of the people who invest hours sifting through the sand; however, Stan made a believer out of me. He was jovial, yet professional, patiently asking questions and easing a stressful situation with understanding and confidence. He was methodical and took the time to interact and explain his strategy. In less than fifteen minutes, to my jubilation, I had the key in hand! If he showed this determination with a key, I would definitely want him on my team if I lost anything of sentimental value. I am very grateful, Mr. Ross, for your generous service.

Michael asked me if he could write me a testimonial. It’s letters like this that make my day. When I started metal detecting back in 1971, I had no idea that I could use my hobby to help people.. The internet also makes this possible.image

Platinum Wedding Band Lost at Manhattan Beach, CA…Found.

  • from Redondo Beach (California, United States)

P1000113P1000116

David called me yesterday evening, saying he had lost his wedding ring while playing volleyball at the beach, and wondered if I could help him. He was with a group from work that had traveled from Toronto Canada to participate in team building. I was just sitting in my easy chair, wondering what I was going to have for dinner, and told him I could be there in 30 minutes. I know it is so important to search for lost rings at the beach as soon as possible, because time is the one thing that works against finding them. We agreed on the location, and I was on my way.

David was waiting for me when I arrived, and we got right to the spot. As I asked my questions, he showed me where he was standing, and how he went to hit the ball before the ring flew off. He showed me the area he believed the ring would have gone to, which was when I told him it might surprise him, as to where the ring may have landed. This is because, sometimes the ring does things just the opposite of what we think it will do when it comes off of our fingers. I began the search, one line of the grid, and then went backwards from the direction he indicated to grid the second line, when at the middle of the second line I found his ring. He was surprised at the location, and that the ring was found so quickly. He was glad to have his ring back, and I was happy to have made his day.

If you lose your ring or other metal item of value, call as soon as possible. I will work hard to help you find what you thought might never be found again. I search,  Beverly Hills, Hermosa Beach, Huntington Beach, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Malibu, Manhattan Beach, Newport Beach, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Santa Monica, Seal Beach, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Torrance, Venice Beach, and all parks, yards, gardens, and ponds (to 5 foot depths) in all of Orange County, all of Los Angeles County, and Ventura County.
