BMW Key Lost in Sand .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Found

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Thursday .. 6-18-15

I was just leaving my home to search for a ring lost near the Balboa Pier, when Tim called. He said that he was at The Wedge searching for his BMW car key. The Wedge is a popular body surfing beach about a mile south of the Balboa Pier. I told him that I would be right there, figuring it would be a simple recovery.
When I got there, Tim was shuffling his feet through the sand as he had been doing for 4 or 5 hours including the night before. He told me that he had placed his key that had a metal fob under his shoes when he went into to the water last night.
After an hour, I had cross gridded the area with no luck. I had set my detector in what I thought was all metal, but could not get a signal. I gave up till I could get my PI detector. Returning the next day with my Whites PI Surfmaster, I found the Key with a huge triangle shaped metallic bottle opener.
My other machine has a factory set Relic and Beach settings. I could not get a signal in open screen mode. The large metallic fob was masking the signal. I’ve had time to check this again and I did get a null which I may have missed, it’s a lesson to be learned with my CTX 3030. I will remember this in the future.
I called Tim and he was surprised that I went back to give it a second try.. We will meet up in a few days to return his key.

Lost White Gold Wedding Ring recovered in Falls Lake Beaver Dam swim area, in Wake Forest N.C. on 6/26/15..

I recovered this Lost gold wedding  ring on 6/26/15 for nice young lady who lost it while swimming with her kids.  She explained that she lost her ring a few days earlier while she was playing with her kids in the water.  It appears that before she entered the water she was putting lotion on her and the kids and when she got in the water, the combination of the lotion and the water caused the ring to slip off her finger.  The ring was recovered in about 3 feet of water.. Here are some photos of the ring . It was a pleasure to help her out but the sad part is my detector developed a leak during the search which caused it to short out and break just after I found her ring. Atleast i was able to find her ring before it broke, I’m glad about that..

Wedding Ring Found and Returned .. Newport Beach, CA.

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Thursday .. June 18, 2015

Jenifer and her children were visiting her mother. They all went to Balboa Beach for the day. She took her wedding ring off putting it into the cup holder of her beach chair to put sunscreen on the kids. Later that afternoon they picked up their beach things to eat at a nearby restaurant. That’s when she realized that her ring was lost, most likely back where they were on the beach. They returned spending several hours searching by hand. Everybody was upset even the kids. They gave up the search believing the the ring was lost foreveer.
Returning home in the San Diego area, three days after the loss Jenifer’s mother called her, telling her that a police officer friend told her about TheRingFinders.com. Jenifer found me in the directory calling me to ask if I could help her. She was 60 miles away so it would be difficult for her to meet me at the location. She was able to tell me where she was sitting.  I know that part of the beach well and exactly where she had been. She sent me 4 photos that had been taken that day which really helped me zero in. Everything was good except they beach was full of people laid out with all their beach gear. I spent a couple hours searching the open areas. Then I went back to the car waiting two hours for people to leave.
It was close to 6 pm and people were not leaving where I needed to search. Then I saw another detectorist working a grid towards this spot. I grabbed my detector, heading towards the location I needed to work. One of the places that was now clear, earlier had a tent, a plastic kids swim pool and all sorts toys spread over a 20ft x 20ft area. Fifteen feet in a straight line and the sweet sound of gold in my earphones. Jenifer’s beautiful wedding ring ended up I my scoop.
I sent her a surprise text picture of her ring. Jenifer returned a call to me and I told her about how I found the ring. She told me that she had given up hope. Also, yesterday was their wedding anniversary she was felt terrible about not having her ring. Now, she can’t believe that it has been found.
We talked about how to get it back to her. Her mother could meet me as she lived closer to me. That would have to take place Sunday. I wanted return it directly to Jenifer as soon possible. We met Friday at a location half way between where we live. My bonus was to be able to return the ring to its owner. Jenifer was truly grateful. It was a pleasure to meet her. This is one of the ring search and returns that I will always remember.

Lost Rubies & Diamonds Gold Ring at Kuhio Beach Park Waikiki…..FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

My fellow ring finder Don Bryant called and said a lady named Soraya had lost her ring at Kuhio Beach Park and that he was still unpacking from his trip so he referred her to me. As soon as I hung up the call came in. Soraya explained to me that she had lost the ring the evening before as she was playing with her children in waist deep water. Don & I both told her that Sergei the Russian detectorist that cruises the beaches every morning could very well of found it and our probability of finding her ring was very low. I told Soraya that I would give it a shot and could be there in 30 minutes. We met at the pier and she walked me to the area she was playing in the water. We marked an extreme East & West point and I started my search. It only took about 30 minutes and all I found was a Memorial cent and half a pull tab in the wet sand. I told Soraya the water was sterile of any metal and to look at her markers and asked if I had to go out one of the markers should I go more East or West. She looked towards shore and said I think a little more towards the Church which is to the West. I continued on and then on the third leg outside the original marker I got the « Growl of Gold and Stones ». A gentle scoop and there was the gorgeous White Gold ring with rubies and diamonds. I looked up and Soraya was no where to be seen. I’m thinking did she give up on me? I happened to spot her son playing in the water and asked him where his Mom was…she had gone up on the beach where I couldn’t see her. I told him to tell her I think I found her ring. Her daughter came running down and said let me see…let me see. Oh yes that’s my Mom’s ring! Soraya arrived and I held the ring out in the palm of my hand. That’s it how amazing…where actually was it? Actually it was in a lot closer to the beach then she imagined it would be. We figured she was playing during high tide and didn’t realize how close to shore she had been. I’m so glad we extended the search in the correct direction and Sergei missed this one. Chalk one up for « The Ring Finders » Aloha to Soraya.

Lost Gold Wedding Band at Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki……FOUND!

I got a call from Ken while at work and he wanted to know if I could look for his ring at Hilton Hawaiian Village. He lost the ring two days prior and that area is one of the most detected areas in Waikiki. My fear was someone already found it and he would never get it back. The surf has been pounding the South shore so there was a chance the regular Waikiki detectorists might have been taking a break. I told Ken I would meet him after work and give it my best shot. We met at 4PM on the beach and I was elated to find out Ken had lost his ring in the rocky area of the beach. That area is very difficult to detect in as there are many large coral rocks and most of the detectorists avoid it. Ken explained that he was in no deeper than 4 feet of water and between two coral outcroppings on the shoreline. So I went to work. Unfortunately I only found coins, pull tabs and a bottle cap. I asked Ken lets think this over where did you spend the most time? He said probably in the sandy area near the wave break where he was getting thrown around. I said OK I’m going to concentrate there and not go into the rocky area. An hour had already passed and I could see the anxiety on their faces. I needed to find this ring. I started a wave curl search as the surf was pounding the shore. On the return leg a little farther into the sand at the half point between Ken’s marks I got that beautiful « GOLD » tone. After two scoops I saw a ring. I motioned Ken over and asked him to describe the ring again please. White gold with two rose colored bands going through it he said. Sure enough that is what was in my scoop. I pulled the ring out and handed it to Ken. You know that look we treasure so much well Ken was beaming with joy that I finally found his ring. I found out from talking to Ken and his lovely wife Malette that they had just gotten married and only had the ring for a day when it was lost. What a happy ending to a wonderful vacation in Hawaii. Aloha to Ken and Malette.

Lost rings found at North Avenue Beach Chicago

Got a call at 8:30AM on Sunday, Fathers Day.
Woman was very upset that she lost both her wedding band and her engagement ring at North Ave Beach on Saturday. Took off her rings to put on lotion and forgot they were on her lap. She was leaving Chicago shortly on Sunday. Time was of the essence.  Didn’t want to break the news to her husband on Father’s Day that she lost both rings. Since they were white gold and I didn’t know how small they were, I decided to take the XP Deus and hunt in 18kHz. They had been searching the area 3 different times and lots of people had been trying to help her find them. I gridded off the area that she had been in. They were both down about 5 inches. Probably because people had been moving the sand around. Both rings came in at 45 in my ring program that Andy Sabisch helped me set up at his XP Deus Bootcamp. As you can see the wedding band was very thin, although covered in diamonds. Don’t think I would have found it if I had not been in 18kHz. Found it in less than 10 minutes.
The owner was in tears she was so relieved. She kept saying that I saved her. She was so excited to get the rings back on her hands that you can still see the sand on them!  It’s great to be able to help people. What a great hobby. Thanks Andy, thanks XP Deus team, thanks Ron Shore from Windy City Detector Sales and Rental, and special thanks to The Ringfinders Database so she could find me.

Lost Texas Tech Class Ring Houston (Found)

Lost Texas Tech Class Ring at Construction Site (Found) Houston, Texas

06/19/2015

I was contacted by Max regarding his Lost Texas Tech Class Ring at a  residential construction site in Houston,Texas. Max said he was assisting in the pouring of a new concrete foundation at the location when he lost his ring.

Max said he felt pretty sure his ring came of his hand somewhere between the edge of the foundation they were pouring and the roadway where his truck was parked.

06/20/2015

I met with Max at the construction today and we walked through the areas he believed he may have lost the ring. The area around the construction site was very muddy, and I had a concern that the ring may have been stepped on and driven down deep into the mud. Max said he and a few of his co-workers had search the area for his missing ring the previous day.

Max reported his had only had his class ring for about a year, and that it had been a gift from his mother upon graduation for college.

Ring Found .. Santa Monica Beach, Ca. .. Lost in Sand

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Wednesday June 17,2015

Olga and Hector are visiting Santa Monica, Beach from New York. Hector wanted to do a little work out on the gymnastics bars and rings on the beach. He gave Olga his small gold ring to hold for him. She slipped it on her finger for safe keeping. After a half hour she realized the ring was gone. It had to be somewhere in the sand where she had been watching Hector.
Olga found TheRingFinders.com after a Google search on her iPhone. I was an hour away and after hearing her story, told her this would probably be an easy search. It was important that she stayed in the location. This will help make it a quick recovery. I was able to get to her location with the cooperation of Los Angeles freeway traffic.
I called Olga as I walked to the beach recreation equipment. She came walking out of the crowd saying she recognized me carrying my metal detector equipment. She pointed out where it might be. With less than 10 swings of my detector coil I got that sweet gold tone. Hector’s ring in the sand scoop. They gave me big Hi Fives and thanked me with a real sincerity. They even had enough time to take the walk on the Santa Monica Pier which they had planned to do before losing the ring. This never gets boring. Every search is special.
