Because those of us who are members of THE RING FINDERS are naturally inclined to keep our eyes wide open and our detectors moving swiftly, we occasionally stumble upon missing items that people lose even before the connection is made with that potential client. We may be metal detecting on the beach or in a park and lo and behold, we find a piece of jewelry that had been recently dropped by someone who was walking their dog or playing a sport on the field. Because we recognize just how much these items mean to those who lose them, we care enough to go to whatever means possible to return the keepsake to the rightful owner.

 

This very situation happened to me just prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. While I was dining in a pizza restaurant in Montgomery Village, Maryland, I stopped in the restroom just prior to me leaving the place. I happened to look down and see a lovely gold heart pendant with a CZ diamond in the center. It was resting on the floor next to the right side of the toilet. I thought it was quite odd that a lady’s pendant ended up on the floor in the men’s room. I logically concluded that the owner of the pendant was most likely a female employee at the restaurant because under normal circumstances a woman would not be using the men’s room. I thought, ‘Perhaps a female worker came inside to scour the place and she accidentally broke her chain in the process, causing the pendant to separate and fall to the floor’.

 

I took a paper towel and carefully picked up the pendant. Then, I took another piece of paper, placed it in the sink and rested the pendant over the paper towel to carefully wash it clean. Finally, I dried it off before eventually placing the heart inside my pocket.

 

As soon as I came out of the restroom, I made my way towards the front and immediately grabbed the attention of one of the restaurant’s long time servers, a 10-year employee named Yasmina. I asked her if she could check with the management team to see if anybody lost a piece of jewelry sometime that day. The moment that I made that request, her face lit up as if something wonderful had just happened to her! She excitedly responded by asking me, “Did you happen to find a heart pendant with a stone in the middle?!” I surprisingly replied, “Yes, how did you know about the missing pendant?! Did a customer mention that they lost it recently?” Yasmina answered, “No! I’m the one that lost the pendant a couple days back! I don’t believe this! I’ve been looking all over for it and I have been devastated that it fell off of my chain! I thought it was lost forever! I’m certain that this must be the pendant!” As she shared her account, she showed me a chain that was well secured around her neck where the pendant was once fastened to.

 

I carefully reached into my pocket and pulled out the piece of jewelry and showed it to Yasmina who happened to be one of my favorite servers. Her eyes widened even more as she exclaimed, “You found it! You found it! You found my missing pendant! I can’t thank you enough! This is wonderful!”

 

Apparently, this yellow 14 karat gold heart with the lovely stone in the center was given as a wedding gift to Yasmina 12 years earlier by her aunt. She was completely horrified that she had lost the pendant because it meant so much to her.

 

The restaurant server first noticed that the pendant was gone when she had arrived home from work two days prior (Friday night). The chain that held the pendant was broken but had still been dangling around Yasmina’s neck. She frantically looked everywhere around the house and in the car, but to no avail. That’s when she returned to work the next day and looked everywhere in the restaurant but she still couldn’t find it. It was at that point that she realized that it was most likely gone forever. Yasmina felt very depressed knowing how much this gift meant to her (representing her wedding day and how much she loved her aunt who gave the sentimental keepsake).

 

When I asked the pizza restaurant employee to guess where I found the missing piece of jewelry, Yasmina immediately guessed that it was found in the restroom! Just as my suspicions proved to be correct, she had been cleaning the bathroom that Friday night and somehow the chain broke loose, and as a result, the pendant fell to the floor! Although she went looking everywhere for the lost item, even searching in the bathrooms, her eyes just didn’t zero in on it!

 

We both couldn’t believe that it had been on the floor for more than 48 hours and nobody had picked it up in all that time! I was so happy to have found the piece of jewelry and the rightful owner! This recovery meant quite a bit to me because the pendant happened to be owned by one of my favorite servers! Yasmina kept thanking me over and over again and I was overjoyed with happiness, knowing that I could return something as precious as this back into her life!

 

The ironic part of this whole story is that I had been working on a ring search recovery story while I was eating my dinner that night in the restaurant. Yasmina inquired about what I was doing and I shared more about THE RING FINDERS and how special it is to help people find their lost possessions! Little did we know that 30 minutes later, right there in her workplace, I would end up recovering Yasmina’s very own beautiful gold heart pendant that she had earlier concluded that it was gone forever! With much happiness, this ring finder proved her sad conclusions to be wrong!

Lost ring at Ocean Beach dog beach found

Bryan just went down to the water to rinse sand off his hands. He returned to where has was camped in the dry sand and when he shook the remaining water off his hands his precious gold ring he got in Dubai flew off into the sand too. He sifted around with his fingers for a while without success. I got the call and told him I’d be right down. After battling the traffic to get there, I arrived just before sunset and walked out to  the search area where Bryan waved me over to where he was. He moved his blanket out of the way, 10 seconds and two swings later, I get a solid 17 signal on my Equinox just out of the area he had searched with his fingers. I asked if he would like to pick up his ring, or, would he like me to do it. I took one scoop and held it up for him to grab. He took a photo of it in the scoop, pulled it out, and put it back on his finger.  A happy Bryan can now head home. A pleasure to meet you and thank you for the reward.

Wedding Band Lost On Jacksonville Road Found And Returned

Friday, David was riding with his wife Brooke down a Jacksonville, NC backroad.  He went to point something out to Brooke and the motion of his left hand caused he wedding band to go flying onto the street at a high speed.  They searched day and night for the ring along the roadside grass and weeds.  Sunday, Brooke found out about my detecting service and sent me a message.  We agreed to meet during her lunch break.  A few sweeps along a very trashy road caused me to change my normal swing style and that was the ticket to locating surface and near surface targets.  Eventually, I made it up to where there ring was resting.  Brooke told me she was in tears thinking about the ring being lost forever.

Lost engagement ring, Pensacola – FOUND!!!

What better way to transition into fall than one last ring return on a Volleyball court. I had just returned home when I got a call from my buddy Charlie who is out in CA. He had received a call from a friend of his named Joey who had in turn gotten a call from his wife Nicole and she was in a panic. Nicole had been playing Volleyball with her daughter at a local park and looked down to notice that her wedding ring and her engagement ring were no longer on her hand. This is about the time the panic had ensued and I think everyone will agree that it was totally justified. Luckily Charlie is a great guy and rather than telling Joey that he was out of town, he tracked me down and put us in touch. We were running out of daylight so I loaded up as fast as possible and called Joey to tell him that I could help and get an idea where to go. I pulled in the park and although there were lots of people there enjoying the playground equipment I had no doubt who I was looking for. As soon as I pulled my gear out, a big group of ladies and young people started waving me down. I noticed that they all had makeshift seines and colanders and I wondered which one was Nicole. Then I noticed the lady who was crying and I knew I had found her. I immediately introduced myself and told her not to worry that I was totally going to help her. She told me that I didn’t understand, they had searched everywhere that it could be with the strainers and they had even found the wedding band but she feared the engagement ring might be anywhere in the park and she was distraught. I asked her if they had been there the entire time and they said yes. I tried again to reassure her as I explained what I was doing and started my grid pattern. I made about one pass but as I was talking to her I could see she was in agony so I decided to take a different approach. I told her to tell me where she had found the gold band, she told me that they had already looked there and I told her to humor me. She did and I asked her if they changed sides at all and she said no. Lastly, I asked her if she wore her band closest to her heart and she said yes. I took a step towards the way I thought the ring first off her hand would fly and I said, “watch this” with a big smile. I went about two steps and got a good tone. I don’t think she realized I had something until I kneeled down with my pinpointer and then stood up saying, “Does it look like this?”  She broke down in tears and I was reminded why I love doing this so much. Found Loose Yellow Gold Heirloom Ring in the Garden Bellevue WA

Today I received an email from a gentleman asking if I could help him find his lost ring in the backyard. After a simple conversation I learned that he had been applying some mulch over his newly seeded grass. In doing so his loose gold heirloom ring from his late father flew off his finger while tossing the mulch over the grass. He told me he watch the ring fly off into the bushes over some thick high plant ground cover. He indicated that he had purchased a metal detector on line. While trying to find his ring with the basic metal detector he told me it kept making noises because there was some buried wires for the garden lights making it difficult. He said the known area was about a 10 ft radius and should be easy for me to locate the ring. With the basic details of this loss I agreed to head straight over after work to start the search.

Upon arriving he showed me the area. It was a fairly typical residential garden situation. I was brimming with confidence knowing my equipment and experience is well suited for this type of search. I started fetching gear from my vehicle I selected two search coils and proudly placed them on the drive way as I put my rubber boots on excited for another ring hunt. I gathered a few additional items and it was at this point when I went to grab the rest of my metal detector control head I realized this critical piece of gear was left at home. I am constantly switching gear in my vehicle from SCUBA to land search tools. I have a really good system but even I had to come clean. I said I was a little embarrassed that I had not packed my main detector. I typically pride my self in having more than enough with back up options. This was a work with what you have moment on the spot kind of situation now. Sometimes the trouble shooting process takes a slight detour in your process to see what you can do when the pressure is on. I confessed that I had forgot to pack my main machine but I could still perform a search with what was available as I had another piece of equipment. I then asked him if he could bring out the recently purchased metal detector. He was a little taken back thinking I had another option. I clarified my situation that all I had was my small pin pointer and would like to also use his machine. He quickly brought his machine out from his garage and asked if I knew how to use it? I assured him we would recover his ring based on his report that he watched it fly off his finger.

Having a container of assorted rings on hand I sourced a gold mens wedding band that was close in design to his. I used my ring as a quick test of his basic machine and it worked. We tested the sensitivity of his detector by placing my test ring under some of the vegetation and it had sufficient penetration so my confidence was building. I know at the very least I could find it with my pin pointer but also didn’t want to spend all evening poking around like a mad man either. With his basic machine I quickly cleared a portion of the grass that had mulch thrown over it even though he kept telling me he had watched it go into the bushes. I reassured him that I believe him and just want to clear this easy grass before crawling into the bushes as sometimes rings hit things and bounce so let me clear this easy area first. This took all of just a minute at most to pass over a small area of the grass. Within another minute of swinging over the ground cover I quickly found the yard light wires laying on the surface causing a lot of noice. At this point I got on my hands and knees with my trusty Whites TRX pin pointer in hand and it also got a lot of interference. I became a bit concerned but was able to pull the wire back a bit and finally the pin pointer quieted down. Within just a few swipes around the base of the bush trunk I got that a really strong signal. Could this be the ring after only three minutes of searching? After moving some leaves to my delight I could see that shiny gold ring buried under the rubbish. I pulled his gold heirloom ring out taking him by surprise of how quickly the hunt went.

Lessons Learned:

Always remain humble. As much as you prepare for any situation in life that you have trained for just know obstacles and challenges will occur. Just take a deep breath, assess your inventory of options an do the best with what you have on hand. There is typically a way to succeed if you are patient with yourself and persistent in finding a solution.

All ended well with the recovery of his sentimental heirloom gold ring back on his finger where it belongs…

Wedding Ring Lost On Surf City Beach Was Found In A Few Hours

Newlywed Carrie was spending the last part of a vacation with her in-laws in a Surf City beach house.  She had given her rings to her new mother-in-law before swimming.  The rings were placed in a rear pocket.  It is believed wedding band slipped out of the pocket when a phone was pulled out for pictures.  Emerald Isle Metal Detecting was called that same day.  When I arrived, I was very glad they called me quickly and knew the general area the ring most likely would have been lost.  My metal detector, a Minelab CTX-3030 locked in on a strong 12-12 signal display and I was able to gently raise her ring from the soft sand of the beach.  Her husbands first words were « That’s amazing! »

Lost Ring Found at Boat Launch

Sometimes the journey is what matters. Shane called me about his wedding ring, lost 8 days after his 10th anniversary. He was loading his boat back on the trailer. While winding the winch, he felt the ring go and he was sure it fell into the murky water. After searching for close to an hour, he was forced to give up as he had his 6 year old twins with him.

While searching for ideas on how to find a lost ring, he came across the ring finders and my bio. We talked for half an hour and came up with an elaborate plan on what we would do when we got there. Starting with the detector and finishing with using a wet vac to suck up the gravel from under the corrugated concrete.

nch after a 90+ minute drive, we hopped out. His first comment was how much lower the water was and how much clearer it was.  He and I walked down the ramp and started to visually look for it. About 1 minute in, Shane bends down and picks up his ring. High fives. He has found his custom made rose and white gold ring..

The next 45 minutes were spent trying to learn how the simple metal detector he had purchased earlier worked. The end result….it doesn’t.

Topsail Beach Lost Rings Found With Metal Detector

Chase was relaxing at Topsail Beach, NC.  When it was time to leave his group packed up the gear and headed back to the house.  It was then he realized he had removed his rings for safe keeping.  Later that day his father called Emerald Isle Metal Detecting.  I was preoccupied so I messaged a nearby friend to see if he would help.  Because of a Midnight tide Justin made plans for a late night hunt the very day the rings were lost.  Thankfully, Chase and his father remembered the general area they had set up and this made for a much shorter search and find.   After Justin found the 1st ring, he was able to locate the 2nd ring about 10 feet away.

Family Fun Day Results With Wedding Ring Lost On Emerald Isle Beach

Jason and his wife spent four hours on Emerald Isle Beach enjoying a great September day.  Body surfing the ocean, throwing football and playing in the sand. 

Upon returning to their car Jason noticed his wedding ring was missing.  That evening, his wife called Emerald Isle Metal Detecting and arrangements were made to search the following day.  I brought Justin to help search the beach.  After searching for a few minutes, I decided a larger coil would be better in the wet sand so I headed to the truck.  Upon my return I see Justin walking towards me and I knew it was either he had equipment problems or found the lost ring.  I was very pleased he had found the ring in minutes of the beginning of his search.  The wife and kids were there to accept the ring and we were very thankful and the kids were very polite from the start!   If only all searches went this well!

White Gold diamond womans wedding band lost when on Honeymoon , Fort Lauderdale Beach Florida Found and returned to owner.

I got a call from a couple on their Honeymoon that had lost their Wedding band. The bride got hit with a big wave that knocked off her ring. I immediately rushed to the beach .  I searched where they had lost it and was very lucky to find it quickly. They were so relived that it was found. They thanked me many times. I was so pleased that I was able to help them enjoy their honeymoon in peace.
