Special Ring Lost On Emerald Isle Beach Found By Crystal Coast Ring Finders

On a surprise trip to Emerald Isle Beach, Nydirah placed her ring on a towel before heading into the water.  When she return to dry off, she picked up the towel and forgot about the ring and it went flying into the sand.  After searching for about an hour with no luck, the couple headed back on a sad long journey home.  Before getting home, Nydirah found Crystal Coast Ring Finders and reached out for help.  When I received the call, it was getting dark and realized the public parking area would be closing soon.  This would leave me with no place to park.  I asked a friend if he knew any spots and offered some risky ideas.  With the help of the police department, I was given some advice on where I could possibly park.  My friend offered to help and I picked him up at a store and headed to the location.  After trying the understand the correct area, Nydirah sent an aerial photo with a spot circled.  As soon as we where inside that circle,  we split up to effectively hunt the area.  Carl came back to me and already had the ring.  I sent a picture and the first day the post officed opened, I mailed Nydirah’s heart ring back to where it belongs… on her finger.

Lost Platinum Wedding Ring… FOUND near Pell City, Alabama!

On a beautiful Sunday morning (April 7th, 2024), I was sitting on my outdoor patio rocking chair, enjoying a cup of iced coffee, watching birds eating at my feeder and two Bluebirds tending to their birdhouse.  A few minutes into my cup, I received a call from Emily stating she had lost her wedding ring.  She had been in a car accident a few days prior near Pell City, Alabama.  Thankfully, everyone in the accident was okay.

After the accident, Emily was standing near the wood line close to a gravel pull off point near the road.  She had a flat tire and was upset about the whole situation.  She lit up a cigarette and angrily threw the cigarette pack towards the woods.  She felt her custom-made platinum wedding ring with multiple diamonds and her son’s birthstone fly off her finger.  She had recently lost some weight, so the ring was loose fitting, but she hadn’t gotten it resized yet.  Emily and her family looked for hours, raking the pine straw and even buying a metal detector, but unfortunately, didn’t find the ring.  This was the ring Emily always dreamed about, constantly sharing photos with her mom, planning it for years.  Emily was absolutely devastated that the ring was now gone.  The sentimental value was beyond words.

Emily’s mom went on Google looking for ideas on how to find a lost ring.  She came across The Ring Finders website.  They (along with many others) were unaware that this metal detecting service even existed.  Emily’s call to me had given her some renewed hope.  I had an errand to run after lunch, but I told Emily I would be on the road as soon as I finished.  Pell City was about a 2-hour drive from where I live at in Huntsville, AL.

I met Emily and her boyfriend of 17 years at a nearby Love’s Travel Stop in Pell City around 4:30pm.  I followed them for about 10 minutes to the spot of the throw.  Emily’s mom and father stopped by shortly after we did to watch the recovery.

I had Emily show me where she was standing and demonstrate exactly how she threw the cigarette pack.  It was a sideways toss with her left hand.  I had her throw one of my test rings and it went straight out near where the cigarette pack had landed.  I put on my detecting belt, grabbed my Minelab Equinox 900, and started my search.  I spent about 40 minutes checking the main radius of where the ring should’ve landed.  I expanded out further, but came up empty handed other than the usual trash metal.

I asked Emily again about the angle of her throw.  Her boyfriend had seen her throw the cigarette pack, and mentioned she had a downswing at the end.  I know that rings can land at a person’s feet or even go behind them, so I expanded the search in that direction.  The search area was now on the gravel road of the pull off point.  I was still detecting and visually inspecting the gravel area.  I was making my way towards the left side, when my eye caught a glimpse of a large and gorgeous platinum ring laying amongst the gravel.  I quickly spun around facing Emily and her mom; with a huge smile on my face, and said, “we got it!!!”  They almost couldn’t believe it, lol.  Emily and her mom both ran over and gave me the biggest hugs, thank you’s, and praised the Lord.  The excitement, celebration, and relief were again, beyond words.  Truly, one of the greatest feelings.

The ring was slightly bent and had some scuff marks on the band, so it had been driven over.  But fortunately, all the stones were still there.  There was one diamond that was loose, so I gave Emily a baggie to keep it in until it could be repaired.  Everyone couldn’t believe how far this ring actually flew and the odd direction it went.  The last picture I included shows a dot where Emily was standing when she threw the pack and an “X” where the ring landed.

We chatted for a few minutes, took some pictures, and I was back on the road to go grab a bite to eat and then head home to Huntsville.

This ring is my 50th item recovered since I joined The Ring Finders on August 25th, 2018.  It’s been such a blessing helping others and it really provides me so much purpose in life.  I give all glory to God and my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  And a big thank you to my husband, Lindell, for allowing me to go on all of these fun and exciting adventures, lol.  I look forward to going on many, many more.

Leina called to report her ring was somewhere along a dirt road but she knew the general area.  Her concern was there were heavy rains the day she called and was thinking it would be more difficult to locate her treasured ring.

I met Leina the next morning and she had said she bought a metal detector and tried to locate it herself but was finding way too many pieces of trash and numerous unknown signals.  She had given me a search area and I was also pulling out various metal items.  We continued along a wet ditch which had a tall metal fence on the opposite side.  The fence was causing my machine to sound off when I swung too close.  Leina was upset and I tried to calm her down with conversation.  We seemed to have a lot in common when it came to living through our years.  While I continued to search the roadside and ditch beyond her marked area, I was pulling more trash and then I finally hit the right spot.  Leina didn’t even noticed I had found her ring in the weeds and water.  I stood there to take a break and listen to what she was talking about (her upcoming wedding).  She was so stressed.  I held out may hand with her ring and said « Maybe this will help ».  She melted with tears and joy

My wife and I were in Texas for our grandson’s second birthday when I noticed that someone named Heather had posted on social media that her son Jacob had lost his Versace watch at Sunset Beach in Tarpon Springs while playing volleyball with his family. At about the same time, another person had posted that her husband had lost his wedding ring at the same beach but they subsequently found it in the container that held their children’s sand toys.

I reached out to Heather and told her that I would be happy to search for the watch when I returned if it had not already been found. A few days later, I returned to Florida and Heather told me that the watch which was not only expensive but had a great deal of sentimental value had not been found. Jacob had taken off the watch and put it in his pocket while playing volleyball and the family had searched the volleyball court by hand as well as thoroughly searched the house and the car over the next several days. By that time, I was concerned that either the watch had been picked up by someone and not turned into park personnel or discovered by another metal detectorist. I set up a search at Sunset Beach with Heather the following morning. When I arrived, there was already another metal detectorist working another part of the beach and I asked him if he had searched the volleyball court yet and he said that he had not. Even though Heather had not arrived yet I began grid searching the sand court. I finished one side without hitting any targets, ducked under the net and began searching the other side. At a place where it looked like it might be a serving area on the court I received my first target signal on the search so I reached down with my gloved hand to dig away some of the sand and out popped a Versace watch! Heather had not yet told anyone what kind of watch was lost and I didn’t have a picture of it but of course I assumed that I had found what I was looking for! I was very surprised that the beautiful watch was still there because that beach area is heavily detected. I called Heather with the good news and at the same time texted her a few photos. We met later for the return and obviously Heather and Jacob were thrilled to have his watch back on his wrist!

FOUND! Ring of former Empress of the Imperial Court of San Francisco!

I was scrolling through my notifications on Facebook recently when I noticed one of my friends tagged me in someone else’s post. I clicked to see what it was and actually two of my friends had recommended me to help find a lost « item » in a park. I inquired further and found that the lost item belonged to former Empress of the Imperial Court of San Francisco, celebrity drag queen and legend of the LGBTQAI+ community of San Francisco, Ms. Donna Sachet!
Anyone who has had « celebrity » clients can tell you there is an extra sense of anxiety that comes with finding items for them. And this case was no different.

I met Donna and her dog, Peanut, at the location and together we walked over to where she was seated on a picnic blanket tossing a ball for Peanut the day prior. She shared with me a photo of the large gold ring and told me she was presented with this ring when she won the Empress contest years prior. It was important to her. I understood the importance, it marked an accomplishment. An accomplishment that recognized her work in the community. Over the decades, Donna Sachet has performed as a singer and has raised and donated thousands upon thousands of dollars for various organizations in San Francisco, not the least of which was an organization that I worked for for over 3 years in the early 00’s – The AIDS Emergency Fund.

I had been working for events that raised funds for HIV/AIDS and/or Breast Cancer organizations for many years already by the time I moved across the country from NY to San Francisco. It was through my work in NY  that I was able to secure a job in SF before I even arrived from NY. That job then lead to the AIDS and Breast Cancer Emergency Fund where I stayed for over 3 years before G.W. Bush cut government funding through the Ryan White CARE Act forcing the Emergency Fund to restructure. Unfortunately for me, that restructure did not include a position for me.

As a woman I always found it difficult to be recognized or seen when in a crowd of cute gay men working or meeting some of the folks who helped us raise money, so I didn’t expect Donna to remember or recognize me from those days. But our long list of mutual friends made sure we connected to help her find her ring.

I was running my new Legend and the ground at the park was  extraordinarily trashy. It took a while for me to adjust to the Legend since I’d only been out with it twice before and this was it’s first ring hunt. After close to an hour, Donna left, with tears in her eyes, thinking she would never again see her Empress ring.

Fortunately, I don’t give up easily. I put my hat on backwards, changed from my sunglasses to no glasses (a risky decision usually), put my headphones on (which had been off so Donna could hear the signals too) and within 20 or so minutes I located the ring.

I suspect it’ll be a while before Donna forgets me now!

One day in early November 2023, Michelle realized that both her engagement and wedding rings were missing from her hand. Michelle had recently done some gardening and thought that she must have lost them as she was pulling weeds in the thick liriope or monkey grass. At the same time, Michelle and her husband John had recently returned from a trip to the mountains of North Carolina so there was a possibility she had lost them where they stayed. Michelle also works as a dental hygienist and there was a possibility that she could have lost her rings at the office. Michelle and John thoroughly searched everywhere she thought she may have lost her rings and contacted the rental company of the vacation house in North Carolina but they could not find them. Michelle then reached out for help on social media and I responded to her. As it turns out, Michelle has her hair done at the same place where my wife and I go for hair cuts so several people who work there recommended me. A few days later, I searched Michelle and John’s front yard thoroughly with my Nox 900, especially the area with the tall, thick liriope grass including probing the grass with my hand held pinpointer but I was unable to find the rings. Michelle agreed to contact me again in several months after she cut the grass back which she did in early March. I went back over and searched the grass again but it was still too thick to push my detector coil as far as I needed to so I probed the grass with two pinpointers including my new Nokta AccuPoint pinpointer. After about 30 minutes of searching in several clumps of the thick grass, the Nokta “beeped” a contact signal and I pushed the grass aside to reveal the beautiful engagement ring! Michelle was at work and John had just walked into the house so I shouted for John who quickly came back out. I pushed the grass aside and John stared at the ring with a look of disbelief and we both began to celebrate. Then I remembered I still needed to find the wedding band and I got another signal just a few inches from the first ring, pushed the grass aside and there was the second ring! After I left, John texted photos of the rings to Michelle who was still at work and the entire office was overjoyed with the recovery.

Lost engagement ring in the ocean, Ship Bottom NJ, LBI, recovered by Edward Trapper NJ Ring Finder

Jersey shore ring finder ring finder south jersey    Kate reached out to me wanting to know if it was possible to locate her engagement that slipped off her finger during the day somewhere at the beach. It was late in the evening, and after determining that it was close to high tide when it most likely came off, it would be best to wait until the early morning low tide. We arranged to meet early the next morning at the dune walkover. As we were heading to the location I had asked her to mark in google maps we talked about the main things she could remember leading up the the ring disappearing. Once we got to the spot, she showed me some pictures she had, before and after the ring went missing. Something didn’t look just right, but I figured I would check the area that was marked. After coming up empty handed I asked her to see the pics again, it was then I knew that was not quit the right location. I adjusted the location about 40′ to the north, and things looked just right, including the piles of seaweed that had pushed high up on the hill the prior day when the pics were taken. Kate confirmed after looking at the pics that this was absolutely the right location. Combined with the rough surf, was the fact that she was boogie boarding, and that is never a good thing when doing a recovery. Kate did remember one wave that knocked her down, where she lost the board, and that was luckily close to the beach in waist deep water. I decided to hit that area real quick, and while Kate was in about knee deep water looking, I got a signal that made my eyes open wide. With the waves crashing right where I was, I took extra time to zero in on the exact spot, and hoped to grab it on the first scoop. Sure enough I had it on the first try, BINGO, it was her absolutely stunning ring!!!!! Kate had no idea what had just taken place just a few feet behind her, as I scooted up the hill , past the waves to get a better look and clean it off. At that moment I decided to make a video to capture her response, which you will see I’m not very good at. (Will be posted soon) Her reaction was something that makes this profession SO SO rewarding that no words could ever explain.

1948 High School Class Ring, found with a Metal Detector, in Maine, returned to family, after 3/4 of a Century

Back in 2013, I found a 1948 SJHS High School Class Ring, while Metal Detecting, in the ocean, in Old Orchard Beach Maine.

I knew of a St Joseph’s High School (SJHS), in Biddeford, Maine, which closed, back in the 1960’s. I wanted to return the ring, but trips to local libraries and an email to an Alumni Association for St Louis and St Joseph’s High School, all came up empty. Online searches also yielded no clues. I soon found out there were hundreds of SJHS high schools across New England, Mid Atlantic States, Canada and the rest of the U.S.. Old Orchard Beach is a summer resort town in Maine with 100’s of thousands of tourists from all over, every year and the ring was approximately 65 years old, when I found it. . How would I ever find and verify, which school, the ring came from? Could the SJHS be a St Joseph’s, St John’s, St James, etc..? After researching, on and off for 1 1/2 years or so, with no results, I put the ring into my safe and forgot about it .

Fast forward to February 9th, 2024. I found another class ring, while metal detecting, in Old Orchard Beach, after some recent winter storms. This was a 1982 Billerica Memorial High School class ring, from Billerica, Massachusetts. I knew that this should be an easy find and return ring, but that’s another story, for another day. But, finding the 1982 Billerica ring, jogged my memory of the 1948 ring, in the safe. I thought I would give it another go and see if there was anything new online, to help identify the school, from which the ring came.

I posted the ring on many Facebook Pages, including Class Rings – Lost and Found and St Louis High School Biddeford Maine. The Class Ring Facebook Page has an incredible research team that without hesitation, started to help me locate the correct school. The research team, includes employees of Josten’s, the rings manufacturer. Josten’s found the 1948 blueprint for the ring, in approximately 1 week. The ring was absolutely from St Joseph’s High School, Biddeford, Maine. The now closed school is approximately 6 miles, from where I found the ring, in the ocean.

While Josten’s was researching the ring, Chuck, the administrator for The St Louis Facebook Page, forwarded me a newspaper photo of the 1948 St Joseph’s Graduating Class, of 19 women. The initials RGH, engraved on the inside of the ring, matched one young woman and I just knew it had to be hers. Her name is Rita and

I performed an online search, but unfortunately, I found Rita’s obituary, from 2021, just 3 years prior. I was able to contact one of her children, Mary Ann, mentioned in the obituary and she lives only 3 miles from me. Mary Ann answered all my questions about her mother, and they matched exactly, with all the facts I had. Her mother had graduated in 1948, from St Joseph’s High School, in Biddeford, Maine. Her mother’s middle name, starts with a G and ended with a H, just like the ring. Mary Ann told me she was very surprised and excited and couldn’t wait to call her other siblings. Mary Ann told me she would call me back and set up a time, where I could return her mother’s ring and some of her siblings, could also be there. When she called back, we made Saturday, March 9th the date to return the ring.

I met 4 of Rita’s 7 children, at their mother’s and their childhood home. Mary Ann, Joan, Kevin and Michael were there to greet me and were very excited and happy to see their mother’s high school ring, which none of them had ever seen, before today. After all, the ring has been miss for approximately 3/4 of a century.The siblings related the story that their mother had lost her ring, in her late teens or early 20’s, most likely between 1948 and 1952. Their mother had told them about losing her ring, way back then and wasn’t even sure where she had lost it.

It is such a privilege to be able to reunite such a precious piece of someone’s life, to their family. There is no better feeling, than returning rings like Rita’s, to family members that will cherish it forever. Although Rita is no longer here, with them, the siblings all felt her there today.
