Paul was doing some gardening in his Long Beach backyard when his ring vanished into a large bush.
When I arrived he showed the rather large bush so I used my detector to sweep the periphery of the bush and didn’t get any signals, so I used my pin-pointer to get inside and underneath but still there was no signal.
I decided to check the succulents in the front border area and that is where I found Paul’s ring.

Christine called one evening around dinner with a little different kind of request. Her husband, Kevin, had lost his wedding ring in their car four months earlier. They had searched countless times without success, even pulling up sections of the carpet, thinking the ring might have slipped through one of the small openings. They had also asked a dealer to take a look during a service visit, but still no luck. Although the dealer suggested removing the seats, the cost was too high, so they decided against it.
Christine had been following NJ Ring Finder success stories and knew about the wide variety of items I had recovered. I assured her that I had an endoscope, which could reach into small spaces, and I was happy to take a look since it was a fairly common request. We arranged to meet, and when they arrived, I got to work.
After a short search, I began to wonder if the ring was still in the car. Kevin was absolutely certain it had bounced off the center console and fallen beside the seat, but sometimes memories can blur, especially after four months. Still, Kevin’s confidence reassured me, so I gathered more tools to remove the front seat. There was one spot where I thought I had spotted the ring with my endoscope but couldn’t reach it with the seat in place.
With the seat unbolted, Kevin helped me tip it on its side to avoid disconnecting the wires. Sure enough, tucked in the far corner of the seat’s sliding mechanism, there was Kevin’s ring, just as he had described. Using a small grabber tool, I carefully retrieved it, much to Christine and Kevin’s surprise. After four long months, the ring was finally found.

I got text from Steven, a nice gentleman who lives only about two miles from my house. He and his wife had been moving firewood from the front of their house (where the logs had been dumped) to a shed area in the back yard and sometime during this activity, she lost her wedding ring. We made arrangements to meet at their house so I could find her ring. They showed me the area where the firewood had been and where it was stacked now. Seemed simple enough to search just that area, since that was the area where they’d been working.
While I was searching, Steven and I had been chatting about our common interest – history. After maybe 45 minutes with no luck, Steven invited me to see his workshop. Turns out that Steven collects antique tools and wanted to show me. While we were there, I had a thought and asked if he or his wife had checked the gloves she was wearing. He said they both had checked, but I asked if checking one more time would be ok. He agreed and with my handheld detector, found that the ring was still in the finger slot of one of the gloves. We were all surprised, but it’s always a good feeling to recover something that means a great deal to someone. Another happy ending!
On Oct 26th, 2025, and just after 1 pm, I received a text message saying, “Hi Jim! I think I may have lost a set of rings on Ocean Isle beach this weekend. Any chance you’re available to attempt to recover them?” I called the number attached to the text and spoke with Allison. I got a few more details, including the address where she was staying. I told her I was on my way with my ETA. About halfway there, I received a text from her saying, “We found 1!!!” I replied saying, “OK, how many more?” She replied two! A diamond band and my engagement ring. But they would all be in the same area! I responded, “OK, I’m on my way. If you would be real careful looking for them, because you could move or bury them.” She agreed and they stopped looking.
When I arrived, I met Allison at the beach access, and she walked me down to the suspected area. I also met a number of ladies that were with Allison, I guess they were on a lady’s mini vacation. Allison showed me the small, maybe 10×5 foot area and also told me there were 4 rings. Here Platinum wedding band, Platinum engagement ring, and 2 spacer rings. As I turned on my machine, I looked at her and said, “What do you think, less than 5 minutes?” She looked at me thinking I was nuts and gave a little laugh. I took about 2 steps and hit a strong signal, dug a shallow scoop of sand, shook the sand out of the scoop and had her wedding band. She was behind me, as I took it out of the scoop and reached around to hand it to her. She was shocked. Another step and I hit 2 separate signals and scooped out one of the spacer rings and her engagement ring. She was thrilled. She said she didn’t care about the other spacer ring; it was inexpensive and had no sentimental value to it. I continued looking anyway, as I hate to leave a ring in the sand. After no luck, we called it a success and I left. I had intentions of going back after I came home and had some dinner. I went back and covered the entire area including the walk back and forth from the beach access to where they were set up and still couldn’t find it.

Kelly contacted me in August stating she lost her ring in a lake after playing with her kids. I told her I was on vacation in Alaska and would not be home until October. She contact me again in October and we made arrangements to meet at the lake to search for the ring. We both lived about 1 hour and 45min away. She showed me where she was playing volleyball and I first began to search in the sand before moving to the water. After about an hour of searching, I found a gold signal in about one foot of water and had to dig down about 6inches into the sand. As I pulled up the scoop of soil, I could see the ring sticking out of the sand. Kelly had been waiting in her vehicle, and as I walked back towards her car, she got out and asked if I had given up searching. She was very surprised when I pulled her ring out of my pocket and could not believe I found it after several months of being in the water at a pubic location. Please call me if you need help in finding lost jewelry no matter how long it’s been lost. 
I received a call regarding a lost gold ring that had gone missing somewhere in the backyard. While completing several tasks throughout her day, the client realized the ring had slipped out of her pocket. After searching the area with no success, she reached out for assistance. I was able to schedule a service visit and begin searching the yard — and soon, the ring was found. She was very happy to have it safely returned to her.

Little did I know that day I would be driving the almost 2 hours up to Ticonderoga, NY to find a wedding ring which was almost given up on.
Joe and Rebecca and four other family members were staying at a B n’B on a lake in Ticonderoga. Joe told me he was « pretty sure » he lost the ring while playing football the day before. All six family members had searched every square inch of the yard all day and even in the night. They even bought a metal detector and tried to no avail. They had little hope left. While I cannot guarantee that I will find a ring, I can at times, depending on the situation, feel fairly confident. This was one of those times. Still, I felt, even after I arrived, that they did not have much hope. I was the last resort. Better to try and know you have done everything you could than to regret it for years to come. That’s what I told them. They would be leaving the B n’B the next day.
I arrived and got down to work. My heart sank when I heard so many signals in the gold range. « This is not going to be so easy, I thought to myself. » And it wasn’t. I would have to go real slow and quickly calculate every signal and make a quick decision in my head. Finally after what seemed like forever I had the signal I was looking for. Could this be it? I parted the grass and down in the roots was the glimmer of gold. I was thrilled. Containing my excitement, I called Rebecca and Joe over. I didn’t touch the ring. I wanted them to have the joy of seeing it in situ and picking it off the ground. I pointed to the spot and said, « what do you see? » « Nothing. » they replied. I pointed even closer. Still they saw nothing. I practically put my finger right on the ring the third time and finally they saw it, almost made invisible by the golden color of the grass roots. Rebecca started crying she was so shocked and happy. The family gathered round to celebrate. It was like winning the Super Bowl when all the chips were down. Case closed. Ring found. Happy family. Matt called me and told me the story of how he lost his gold wedding band in the Hudson river. In short, he was standing on the end of the dock and went to catch a football and he felt his ring slide right off his finger. The ring fell into the river about 7 feet deep. He knew exactly where it fell, but after searching for a couple of hours with goggles he was unable to locate it. The bottom of the river was full of deep muck so it was impossible to see the ring or much of anything else. That’s when he called me.
I drove the hour to Queensbury the next day as it was too late to go that same day. I took a friend with me who happened to be visiting which was a good thing because this was going to be one of the most difficult searches. We are both lifeguards and good swimmers but the difficulties seemed endless. Visibility was poor, the ring was in the muck, the current was strong and staying down 6 feet in a mostly vertical position was near impossible. We didn’t have any scuba gear, only my mask. It would have been near impossible to use the big detector down there so I only used the hand probe. I located the ring with in the first five minutes, but the retrieval under such conditions was extremely difficult. Marking the spot, relocating the signal, fighting the current, drifting under the dock and having no reference of where your body was in the darkness once you were down there and becoming hypothermic were all obstacle that we had to overcome one way or another. You would have to have been there to fully understand the situation. Long story short, two hours after locating the first signal we finally were able to scoop out the ring in the scooper. The relief and joy we felt were priceless. I had the great pleasure of calling Matt that evening and telling him the good news. He was elated. Since he lived in another state I shipped him the ring the very next day. I told him, « no more football on the dock! »

Mike found me in The Ring Finder directory and shot me a text message. Earlier in the day he was in the basement of a house on a job site in Philadelphia when he lost his wedding band. He was pretty sure he lost it went he took a fall while cleaning up and inspecting the basement of the 1800s old house. Most times I would say no to indoor jobs…metal detectors usually don’t do well inside houses. But Mike said it was mostly dirt down there where he was working…so I figured I would give it a shot. I brought my trusty Minelab Equinox 800 with a 6 inch coil for the job…I also brought a similar tungsten ring to the one that was lost. When i got there the first thing I did was calibrate my detector to pick up just the tungsten ring…then I adjusted the sensitivity and frequency so it was stable in the dirt basement. My machine had no problem picking up the ring I brought with me while in the basement. I knew if I went over it on the floor of the basement i was not going to miss it! 10 minutes into the search I got the signal I was hoping for…it was coming from a dirt pile on one side…with my ponpointer I located the signal within the pile…grabbed a fistful dirt…opened my palm…and there it was!!! Ring recovered and returned! Mike was surprised and extremely happy!
