Lost Graduation Ring in Fort Langley BC…Found!

Hi and thanks for reading my story about a lost steel graduation ring that was given to students that graduated their Iron Engineering Course. The call came in and the young man told me the story that he lost his steel graduation ring while helping his girlfriend do some gardening at her families home. By the sounds of it he was pretty sure that it was lost some where in the garden and I felt my chances were good to find it.

When I arrived at the location I was greeted by the young man and his girlfriend, I got my detector out of my truck and fired it up, we started to head to the garden in question and before I could swing the loop more then 3 times we both saw the ring lying in the dirt…

He started laughing and it was over that quick! This is the second time in 3 hunts that the ring was found in a less then a minute. I have the greatest job in the world! I get to make people Smile!

It wasn’t just any ring that went flying off my finger while throwing snowballs at our husky. It was THE ring. The ring he chose all by himself. The ring he loved enough to give to me when he got down on one knee. And now it was hidden somewhere in 2 feet of snow!

We were newly engaged and still floating on cloud 9. Everything was perfect leading up to that afternoon of playing in the snow. The sunshine was glistening as we took turn tossing clumps of snow into the air. Our dog was jumping up chomping on them. I picked a big clump and tossed it with both hands. As my tears dried we slowly began to realize that short of a miracle, the ring was gone forever.

Larry came the next day with all his gear and in 45 minutes had the ring back in my fiance’s hands. Larry’s strategy was simple and effective. Lost Engagement Ring Recovered In Severn Maryland!

Back on April 3rd, I was contacted by Laurie via email informing me that over the weekend she lost her wedding ring while doing yard work. What I remember most about the email was her last sentence…….. » I’m absolutely heartbroken ». I got back to her the same day and we made arrangements to come out that weekend. Once again, my detecting buddy Lance was available to tag along.  Were we successful you ask? I’ll let Laurie tell the story in her own words…..

We were outside most of the day Saturday.  My husband was working in the yard all day.  I was outside most of the day as well , simultaneously cleaning up the flowerbeds and the kids’ play area and playing with the kids.  After coming in for the day, we had a quick dinner, gave the kids a bath and put them to bed.  Once the kids were in bed and we had a chance to relax we realized my engagement ring was missing.  We panicked and tried to look for it in the house and outside, even though it was dark.  We barely slept and continued the search on Sunday and for the next couple days.  We sifted through the bags of yard waste, checked drains in the house, took apart our washing machine and used a cheap metal detector that we had in our garage.  We had no luck finding the ring but kept googling for ideas.  We came across Jim’s web page and figured we had nothing to lose.  We e-mailed Jim and he responded right away.  He told us not to throw out our yard waste so that they could check it with their detectors.  We arranged for Jim and his buddy Lance to come out in a few days.  They arrived as scheduled and were very friendly and eager to help find the ring.  They asked some questions about what we were doing and where and then they got to work.  They were very methodical in their search and their equipment was top-notch.  Within and hour of searching, Lance found the ring in a bag of yard waste.  As our daughter said, “Yay, nice men!”  Thanks again Jim and Lance!  ~ Laurie & Jason

I tell you what, the feeling never gets old returning something to someone that has practically given up hope of ever seeing it again.  And this 100% success rate I(we) have going……I’m really getting use to it!

Lost Gold Earring in Vancouver BC…Found

I received a call early last week in regards to a search for a small gold earring that was lost on a roof top patio. I knew it would be a tough search and most likely I couldn’t use any detectors due to all the nails but I was interested in helping because I could tell it meant a lot to the young man that lost it.

He told me that it was lost 2 year ago while he was getting a haircut outside on the roof top and he knew he should have got something to get it out of the resting spot between the 2×6 as he could see it resting there.

Two years later and just before he moved out of his apartment he needed to find the earring, he told me the story on how he owned it for close to 20 years and how he traded for it with a lady who he meet when he was only 11 years old.

We spent 2  1/2 hours searching the area and hosing down the roof top to hopefully jar it free from its resting spot to an area that we could collect the dirt and search for the earring. After some hard work and no luck I was getting ready to pack up and my gut told me to search one other likely area and that was the right thing to do as when the young man loosened the 2×6 the little earring fell out from the boards in front of both of us…

Its not just diamond rings and gold wedding bands that makes people so happy when you find it for them as  this is proof that something so simple could mean so much…Just remember that everyones lost item has a story attached to it and when that item is lost the story ends…When we find it the story continues.

Lost Platinum Wedding Band Recovered in Ashburn, Virginia!

I’m very proud of my perfect recovery record thus far as a member of The Ring Finders. The most recent recovery gives me a perfect 4 for 4 record!  I must admit, this time it was my detecting buddy who I asked to come along with me that actually found the lost platinum ring we were looking for, but nonetheless the recovery was a success! Being able to make a  couple’s St. Patty’s Day extra special sure was nice. I’ll let Sarah tell you the rest of the story in her own words….

My husband was out in our yard doing some gardening including spreading grass seed and pulling up weeds and throwing them over an embankment in a wooded area behind our house.  A few hours after finishing the yard work, he noticed that his ring was missing.  Even though he wasn’t sure he had lost it in the yard, he immediately went out there searching for hours with no luck.  He was even able to rent a metal detector and searched the area and still had no success.  He finally gave up and decided that the ring was lost for good.  When he told me, I wasn’t sure that a metal detector would pick up platinum so I did a search online for lost platinum ring and I stumbled upon Jim’s blog.  I sent him a quick e-mail asking if it would be worth it for him to come out if my husband had already searched with a metal detector.  Jim wrote back right away saying that the skill of the detector had a lot to do with the ability to find things, so I figured we’d give him a try.  Jim came out about a week later on St. Patrick’s day with his friend Lance.  They both brought their metal detectors and after my husband gave them a description of his yard work activities they began searching in what they thought were the most likely areas to find the ring: over in the area where he was throwing weeds and in the area he had been planting the grass.  Maybe 15 minutes after they arrived, I started to head out to meet them and my husband said to me « I hope you don’t get your hopes up. »  I said I hadn’t, but I really had!  I stepped outside and asked if they had any luck yet and they said they had found it already!!  It was located in the area where my husband had been planting grass and was under about an inch of dirt.  My husband and I couldn’t believe that they had found it so quickly!  I think it took longer to write this letter than  it took for them to find the ring.  I later realized that it was the 5th anniversary of us getting engaged.  So five St. Patrick’s days ago he had given me an engagement ring and on this one, he had gotten his wedding ring back!  Now St. Patrick’s day is twice as lucky for us.  Thanks again Jim and Lance!

Lost Cell Phone in Newark, OH…Found

Cell phone was lost while her and her boyfriend was riding a 4-wheeler in the back woods and fields.  After about an hour of looking along the path the cell phone was in the brush beside the path. Good thing that the cell phone was found, even though it was dead, because the rain that was coming and would have ruined the phone.

All bark and …..

       Stephan calls me for help finding his wedding ring that slipped the leash while he was washing his truck. When I arrive, it’s probably the worst weather we’ve had here in San Diego the whole winter…..rain, wind, hail, cold (at least by our standards!) We both brave the elements and discuss the area that needs searching and the circumstances of the rings’ disappearance. The truck wash area in question had been recently covered in mulch and bark to a depth of 4 inches or so making it difficult for him to just eyeball the puppy. Not to worry, metal detectors don’t care about no stinking bark! A few minutes later, ring found and another happy camper.

Lost Wedding Band in Coquitlam, BC..Found

I received a call in regards to a lost wedding band a couple of weeks ago and we set a time to meet to do the search today. This young man was taking down the Christmas lights and at some point while doing that and playing with the neighbours dogs he lost his wedding band.

He searched for days and had no luck in finding the ring so he went on line and found  »The Ring Finders Directory » and made the call…He explained to me that it might be a couple of weeks before I could come out to do the search due to his wife who was expecting any day.

Well he’s the proud father of a baby daughter, he called me to say to come over to find the ring and I knocked at his door this morning and we met.

While he was filling in the contract I stood on his front steps looking at the potential search area and as I was looking around I caught a glimpse of white gold in the red rocks that was in his garden under a small tree. I went over and pulled out his ring form the rocks and looked at him and said…Found it! He was pretty amazed as was I.

 

Sometimes you get lucky and my first find of the year was just that! I was a little disappointed that I didn’t get a chance to use my V3i but I’m sure there will be another search soon.

Wedding ring set found in Fort Collins, Colorado

Chiyoko reunited with her rings

While out walking her dog with her kids Chiyoko Hogan lost her wedding & engagement rings while attempting to toss a snowball at her two wonderful daughters. The rings escaped her hand, hit a handrail that was beside the sidewalk she was on and then hid from sight under 2-3 inches of freshly fallen snow. Chiyoko did not see the ring set leave her figure but she did hear it hit the metal handrail. Immediately the search for the rings began but due to the two pre-teen children and dog on the lease, efforts were hindered. She went into her apartment with tears in her eyes to get her husband Joshua to assist in the search. The couple moved several inches of snow because of previous snow along with the fresh snow in an attempt to find the ring set.

After a couple hours of searching Joshua went to a local retail store to purchase a metal detector. The detector that was purchased was not of very good quality but should have been able to find the ring. They searched the area again without luck again. Joshua knew that the detector that was purchased wasn’t of good quality so he went to a store where he could rent a metal detector. The rental detector was definitely a better quality machine, but without experience using such a machine even the world’s best metal detector would not be much help. They searched the area that they expected the ring to be in one more time hoping the detector would alert them to the rings’ location.

After a quick internet search the couple came upon my Ring Finders profile and contacted me Friday night night. Unfortunatly I was not home that night due to having plans with my wife that niht. But Joshua left a message and contact information so that I could get ahold of him at an appropriate time. I called Joshua the next morning and he told me the basic information of the rings’ loss We made arrangements for me to come and search for the ring later on that day, Saturday, February 11, 2012. Unfortunately Chiyoko would not be able to be there when I made my search for her rings due to having to fly back to her former home town to see a sick relative.

Upon arriving at their residence Joshua took me to the area of the rings loss and described the circumstances of the rings’ loss and their attempts to recover the ring. I put my detector together and proceeded to search the area that they had searched previously. After recovering a couple of non-ring targets I decided to switch coils in order to get closer to some metal yard edging. While changing out coils I also needed to put on my gloves, the temperature at that time was around 17 degrees. After another 15 minutes search I heard a good signal on the opposite side of the sidewalk that they expected the ring to be. I looked over at Joshua and said “This sounds REALLY good”. When I pulled some snow back I could see the glint of the 14 kt while gold shining up at me. We had recovered Chiyoko’s rings! Joshua was ecstatic and a bit taken aback as he had previously searched this area with the purchased and rented detectors. This once again proves that expertise in the use of a metal detector can be the key to finding such things as this BEAUTIFUL ring set

Lost necklace found! Cascade, MI

After receiving an email from Sandy on Sunday I gave her a call and set up a time to come out and search for a necklace she lost. Sandy has several wild Blackberry patches in her back yard and while she was out picking berries this past summer she discovered her silver necklace was gone. She had a bucket around her neck freeing up both hands to pick berries but because of the thick brush and prickers on the bushes she thinks her necklace must have gotten snag on a branch.

Sandy started to clear as much brush around the bushes as she could and searched painstakingly each bunch she cleared but to no avail. Sandy remembered an article in the Grand Rapids Press about me and metal detecting and looked on the internet and the rest is history. I came out to her house today weather was cloudy about 40 degrees and attempted to set up a grid in thick fallen weeds and difficult pricker bushes. After about 15 minutes I got a little beep on my Bounty Hunter detector and moved some grass and sticks laid down from the past months snow storms and there it was.

Another happy recipient of  THERINGFIDER.
