Massive gold ring lost in custom pond in Hockley Valley, Mono, Dufferin County, ON

Yolanda from Hamilton was on a day out swimming with Friends at a very lovely private swimming pond in Hockley Valley, Mono in the gorgeous Dufferin County area!

Yolanda was recently given a white/yellow gold ring with a center sapphire surrounded by diamonds custom made from her Brother just 3 weeks prior. There is a huge sentimental reason she was extremely upset at accidentally losing this beautiful ring!

I was advised it was a sandy bottom over 10’ depth. It was certainly not a sandy bottom as the bottom was covered in a white dry type weed vegetation which was 2’ to 4’ high. There was incredible fish in the pond as my Minelab Excalibur2 underwater metal detector always seems to draw in the fish to investigate me ☺️ I love It! I was also not able to use my underwater circular gridding tool as it seemed the bottom underneath was concrete.

After 20 minutes, I circled back to ask Yolanda to walk around the pond for a different perspective to give me a closer location to where the ring came off. I headed back out and within 5 minutes, I luckily heard that wonderful tone on the Excalibur2! BINGO! Then the SURPRISE!!

It’s a shame that this individual did not make a reasonable donation the the KSBCF charity. Lots of excises. I forgive you. Someone else stepped up to the plate and made-it-right! As his Sister is a breast cancer survivor. I was at a loss for words of his incredible gesture.

Lost and found engagement and wedding rings Kingston Ontario

Received a text from Bill and Angela this morning about Angela loosing her engagement and wedding ring yesterday. She lost them while tossing a ball for her dog in her backyard. These rings are a heirloom from her grandmother and extremely important to her. So off to Kingston we went this afternoon to meet with them. Once on location, and getting further details, started detecting for her rings. Within 15 minutes, I was able to locate the rings for her. You can see her initial reaction in the video below. I always love folk’s reactions when you reunite them with their precious heirlooms. Also took this opportunity to meet up with our son Dominic for a lovely dinner at Red Lobster. Another great day, life is good. 😊

18k Gold wedding band lost cleaning up leaves in Guelph, ON

Paul and his Wife were completing yard work this past weekend at their home in Guelph, Ontario.

Later in the day after most of the work was completed, Paul got into his vehicle and noticed his wedding band was not on his ring finger.

I headed out with my Minelab Equinox800 multi frequency metal detected. Started to grid search near the fence line. Back tracked the back yard. Then into the side yard we’re 8+ bags of leaves had been packed in.

Four to six feet away I had a solid double tone of 18 on the Nox and knew immediately I located the ring.

I called Paul and his wife over as and his Wife of 36 years if she would like to put his wedding band back on his fingers!! Paul had recently lost weight and his wedding band was extremely loose!!

Lost Diamond earring on a farm in Belfountain, Caledon, ON

Angela was out completing farm duties on a beautiful day in a lovely area of Caledon in the quaint village of Belfountain.

Angela and her good Friend Sarah are both horse owners and I’ve know them for a while now. They were loading the horses and the donkeys during the into a trailer throughout the day to head off to their winter digs. Eddie the donkey was not wanting any part of getting on the trailer and had to go for a walk-a-bout with Angela to relax.

Later that day, Angela realized one of her her diamond earrings was missing. Sarah immediately called me for help as she knew I was a metal detectorista and a proud member of the global organization called TheRingFindersDotCom. I had helped another one of Sarah’s Friends successfully recover and return two stainless steel throwing knives lost on his property!

I proceeded immediately after work to Angela’s home and discussed her path throughout the day on her farm. I was in for the very difficult task because any lost small earring or small linked chain is extremely hard to find with a metal detector because there is so little material. It is absolutely a needle in the haystack! I did however call upon a Minelab metal Detexperts and fellow RingFinders Laurie and Eric for advise on my metal detector settings! Park 2 mode and 40 hertz! BINGO! I was able to detect the other earring in Angela’s possession!!! I had hope!

First evening I attempted to check around to south end of the small barn and then looked inside were some equipment was. The evening turned dss asap and cold. My headlamp was helpful but Angela invited me in for a hot drink and dinner! We called it a night! She really felt there was no luck to find it.

On the second day in the late afternoon I proceeded to check in the chicken coop area then the other half of the small barn. I then proceeded continuing my grid search pattern into the laneway where they were loading of the horses and donkeys took place.

Within 20 minutes I had a strong tone and I was completely shocked and amazed that I spotted under a half inch of dirt the beautiful diamond earring was there. I truly was in disbelief as I knew this task was a tremendous challenge.

Angela since returned and was awaiting her husband Ariel to come home. I didn’t let on to Angel that I found the earring and was now looking for the earring screw back!

I was trying to think of ways on how to surprise her and her husband! I then was invited in to warm up as well the offer of another lovely dinner. I then asked Angela to do a starting video for the RingFinders blog for good luck and finally this was the golden opportunity to recorder the surprise!!

A Lost Ring at the Beach – How to Find my Ring in the Sand! Ruth lost her ring at the same beach where she married 13 years ago! Ruth took off her three rings to apply suntan lotion and placed the rings in her beach bag. She carried on with her day, forgetting to put the rings back on her finder. A couple of hours later, Ruth realized she had removed her cover-up and t-shirt from her beach bag. Ruth searched her belongings for the forgotten rings in a scramble and found two of the three lost rings. The most meaningful ring, her diamond wedding band, was missing. Ruth contacted me, and we were able to meet on the beach later that day. Within a few minutes of searching the sand for the lost ring with my metal detector, Ruth’s ring was back on her finger!

Lost and found gold diamond ring Buckhorn Lake.

Received a text from Dave and Lori yesterday evening from Buckhorn Lake, North of Peterborough. Dave was at the dock with his brother in law Marco, when he was wiping his hands and his diamond wedding ring fell off his finger, bounced once on the deck and then between two deck boards and into the water. The good part is that they both saw the ring fly off and go in between the boards into the water (under the deck). The bad part was that there was almost two feet of silt, branches and dead wood under the deck. Silt and weeds are the worst conditions to find any jewelry under water.

I met with them mid afternoon today and after getting all the facts, got into the water and dove under the deck. The worst part about silt bottoms is that as soon as you disturb any of it, visibility goes to 0%. From there, it’s all about your metal detector, pin pointer and feeling with your bare hands while laying on the bottom. First target up, an old pair of vise grips. Second target, an old pop can.  Then, I removed as much dead wood and debris as possible to hopefully hear the right target. After an hour or so, had to come out of the water to warm up and regroup. Lori fed me a nice hot cup of coffee and some Italian pastry and back in the water I went. This time I heard a very faint signal and again, with zero visibility, started digging into the silt with my fingers and pin pointer. About forty minutes later, I finally felt Dave’s ring, moved away from the deck until I had enough visibility to look and confirm that it was indeed his lost wedding ring. As I surfaced, I got Marco’s attention and signalled to him that I had found the ring and gestured for him to grab my IPhone and start recording as I wanted to get Dave’s reaction as I reunited him with his ring. Dave and Lori were ecstatic and it was great to witness the joy and happiness they felt as he slipped his ring back onto his finger. Another story that ends well. I even got treated to a glass of champagne, cold meat and cheese before heading back home. I love what I do.

Extremely sentimental ring lost during garden work in Wasaga Beach, Ontario

Charlie T was at his seasonal trailer in Wasaga Beach, Ontario. He was completing fall lawn work raising a propane tank as well as fall clean-up duty. Charlie had recently lost some weight and felt that his two rings were loose. After completing some yard work Charlie noticed his special gold ring was missing off his finger.

You see Charlie was a dedicated long service employee of 34 years full-time plus 5 years part-time for the esteemed Peel Regional Police. This ring meant a Great deal to Charlie as it was a gift from his Family on his retirement!

I attended the location after work, heard the details, started a tight grid pattern with my Minelab Equinox800 metal detector using the new 5” x 7” small elliptical coil! I started at the front of the trailer and headed down the side to the main area with the recent propane tank adjustments and soil top up!

Within 1-2 minutes I had a very strong signal VDI 20 on the Nox800!! Brought out the Deus Mi-6 pinpointer, 2”-3” depth, moved the soil, spotted the gold ring edge and pulled it out…

Wedding band lost while swimming on holidays at Otty Lake, Perth, Ontario

Blayne & his Wife were vacationing with extended Family at the lovely rustic Colin S Farmer Cottages in Perth, Ontario. The cottages are located on the south west end of Otty Lake.

Blayne was swimming between the land dock and floating dock and noticed his 10k white gold wedding band was missing. He searched for 20 minutes but it was getting dark. The next day Blayne, his Wife and her Family took turns searching for 4-5 hours with no luck.

The cottages owner Kyla had seen a recent Facebook post on the Otty Lake Association page that I was heading down to Otty Lake to search for another recently lost wedding band and a pair of expensive reading glasses. Kyla reached out to me for more information. She contacted Blayne about my services and he was in touch with me immediately!

I was lucky enough to group all three searches together in one day and have three successful recoveries!

I geared up with my Minelab Excalibur2 underwater metal detector and my DIVE BLU3 NEMO portable battery operating hookah system! Blayne provided a Google Earth image and circled the area he thought his lost his wedding band. I went out from land to the dock. I came back around searching in and out of the weeds. I had a few signals finding a pop can pull tab, a stainless steal nut, a lead sinker, swim mask and then the golden tone of the day… Blayne’s wedding band!! WHAHOOOO!

I contacted Blayne with a surprise phone call to give him the news. He was so happy of the news! I subsequently met up with his best man Andrew! Small world… Andrew and I both work for The City of Brampton! He for Transit and I for Works & Transportation. Andrew was thrilled to received Blayne’s wedding band for the return!!

I can’t thank Blayne enough for his very generous donation to the Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Foundation!! He recieves a tax receipt!

I also am grateful to Kyla & her Husband at Colin S Farmer Cottages for connecting me and giving us permission and also Patti Hamilton another cottage owner for posting on the Otty Lake Association page to help others while I was in the area if needed!! It was worth the four hour drive!

Wedding band lost in 25’ depth of water at Otty Lake, Perth, Ontario

In mid August Andrew was attending a weekend long pre-wedding celebration of a Friend which was hosted by AJ Janis.

The weekend was wonderful at the Janis cottage with golfing day, food and beverages and male Camaraderie!

Earlier in the day some grease had gotten on Andrew’s leg while he was cleaning the barbeque grate. He decided to go far a quick dip in the lake and tried to clean off the grease. Andrew then swan towards the other side of the dock, reached for a pool noodle and immediately noticed his ring was missing within 30 seconds of cleaning off his leg.

The Janis’s are scuba divers and subsequently completely two excursions with no success. The bottom was filled with zebra muscle shells along with the silty bottom it created poor visibility if disturbed.

During the golf game my former City of Brampton co-op student Charles was smoking the guests of the pre-wedding ceremonies and mentioned to Andrew he knew a “Ring Finder”. He provided Andrew my details.

Andrew called and sent incredible detailed information. As the depth of the ring was likely between 20’ to 30’ I had to dawn the scuba gear and therefore required a spotter or 2nd diver. I then reached out to my Facebook Friends with a wall post if anyone was available to back me up!

Friend Mike Hamilton had a Family cottage on Otty Lake and saw my post. Mike’s Wife Patti whom happened to be heading down to Otty Lake for a girls weekend called and offered her services!

Patti also happened to lose her reading glasses off the Hamilton dock as well she posted on the Otty Lake Association page and the owners of Colin Farmer Cottages just had a visitor from Toronto Blayne lose his wedding band.

Therefore, I had two more recoveries scheduled!

Patti and I were all set up and in I went! Andrew’s extreme details was the key to finding his 10k white gold wedding band in only 1 minute snd 30 seconds using my underwater Minelab Excalibur2 metal detector!! It was absolutely incredible and was my personal best/quickest scuba dive recovery!

I tried FaceTiming Andrew to surprise him with the good news but he had taken his Wife to the Hospital as she was in labour!

A few days later knowing of the pending birth I sent a text with the good news and a photo! They were very grateful!!

I huge shout out to Patti my spotter/assistant/commentator, Charlie for the recommendation and to the Janis Family for permission to make the recovery attempt! I see a future training session on underwater metal detecting with the Janis Family!

Blessings to Andrew and his Wife on the birth of their Daughter… the real treasure ❤️
