Found, Wedding Band in the water near Pensacola Beach

The shorebreak was still pounding on the beach this past weekend. Brett was playing in the surf when his ring slipped off his finger and disappeared in the foamy surf in about knee deep water. There was a strong down the beach current from the surf and Brett was afraid his ring got caught in the current. It was a big heavy ring with lots of area for the water to push on. He and his friends searched for quite some time with no success. Brett lived out of town and had go home but called me the next day and I said I would do my best to help. I started a search a few hours later based on Brett’s best recollection only to discover that the beach had change shape which is common on Pensacola Beach. The landmarks he relied on no longer existed. There were lots of people on beach the day before and once I got started searching four different people told me about the ring being lost and where it was lost, with each location being different in a 300 foot area! I called Brett and explained we needed to do a bit of detective work to locate the area to search. Fortunately he is very good at estimating distances. Based on structures off the beach, calculating the tide and waiting for the tide to reach the same depth as the time the ring was lost, I started the search again. Within about 45 minutes I got a good repeatable signal. Brett’s ring Apparently sank rapidly in the soft sand that was being agitated by the surf and soon was about 8 or 10 inch deep. After three scoops his ring was recovered. I immediately took a picture of the ring and sent it to him. It was a beautiful ring and Brett’s smile says it all. I was happy I could make his day.

Drone Lost at Sea, Found and Returned, Cape Cod, Massachusetts

(June 16) After a trip to Martha’s Vineyard to find and return an earring, finding a drone, finding the owner of a wedding band that had been lost for a year it was time to work on returning the drone. The drone was in good condition less one missing propeller. I removed the battery and found a memory card. I cleaned off the contact and inserted the card into my computer. Bingo! Pictures and videos from 2019 to the day before I found drone. From the media I determined the owner’s car registration number and home state along with the resort he was staying at. With that information in hand, I went to the resort. First, I searched the parking lot as I remember seeing a red Subaru when I was making my previous return of a wedding band the day before. Dang, wrong registration plate, but I did see a Mercedes with a very similar plate number, and it was from Vermont.

The front desk was reluctant to give me any information and rightly so, I understand about privacy laws etc. So, I left them the information and my card. I also left some information on the windshield of the Mercedes before leaving to search for a lost hearing aid, which I did not find. I will go back and re-search the area with a different detector in hope for a better outcome. While I was on the search, the owner of the drone, Hank, called and we set up a time to meet and make the return.

Hank had been flying his drone at dusk when it took its AI a bit too far, banking hard left and downward, fast. This was the second time for the wayward drone to do something unexpected. This time its undesirable landing area was salt water. Hank tried to retrieve the drone but lost sight of it and could not find it nor did he find it the next day. That might have been because I had already found it.

The outcome was the best that could have happened, if nothing else Hank has the media memories from flights of the drone over the past 3 years. Is it time to back-up your memories? Something Hank and I will think of doing during this coming winter.

Wedding band lost twice, found twice. Yarmouth, Massachusetts

(June 14) The Vacationing wedding band has found its way back to its owner for the second time. Twelve years ago, Jim felt his wedding band slip from his finger into the depths of a Maine lake. Then a year later Jim was snorkeling in the area where the loss occurred and to his luck the sun was shining just right and reveled a sparkle from his ring that was just sitting on top of rock some 6 feet below the surface. Jim did a shallow dive and retrieved the ring and replaced it on his finger.

All was well until last year while vacationing on Cape Cod. With the excitement of a quick dip in Nantucket Sound Jim forgot to leave his ring on shore, safe with his wife, until his return. You guessed it…the ring once again took a vacation from Jim’s finger. Eleven months later I was enjoying a late spring afternoon of detecting when I happened upon the ring in waist deep water. With only a name and date I had little hope of finding its owner. Six weeks later I was in the same area detecting with little success of finding even a single coin when a strong signal was heard. The target turned out to be a Parrot drone. As I put the drone in my pouch, I was approached by Jim who had the usual question…Find anything? I showed him the drone and then he told me of losing his wedding band last year. His description said it was engraved with his wife’s name Karen. That rang a bell and I told him I just might have the ring at home and I would search my finds and call him back that night.

I was running a bit late for dinner…it was ready just as I walked into my home. I ate dinner, had a cup of coffee and nodded off to sleep. I woke with a startle; I had not looked for the ring or called Jim. Three minutes later I had the ring in my hand and dialed Jim. Unbelievable, the way things happen at times. Jim and I set a time to meet and for me to return his wedding band. The meeting turned into a luncheon with a great conversation on detecting and life experiences.

This was about the end of the story with smiles and happiness all around. Our last thoughts were about the drone not knowing that I would find the owner and return it the next day.

Earring Lost, Found, and Returned on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts

(June 12) Spring had sprung and summer was nearing. A wonderful time of the year that requires a bit of physical labor in making the yard look picture perfect. While working among the mint plants and amental bushes Anne’s earring became loose. Not wanting it to fall out of her ear Anne removed the earring, put it safely into a pocket and continued her gardening. Enjoying this time of the year and now looking over her accomplishment she finished by tidying up the area before going into her home to replace the earring. Much to her surprise the erring was no longer where she put it for safekeeping.

A search was on. Unfortunately, all the effort went unrewarded. Anne reached out for help and obtained my phone number. It was now her lucky day. I had nothing scheduled for Sunday. The weather was fine and there were open seats on the Haynnis to Oak Bluffs ferry. I made all the arrangements and on Sunday I met Anne at the docks. It was a short trip to her home. We passed many eye-popping sites of colorful Gingerbread Homes, gardens, and quaint stores.

At Anne’s home I assembled my detector, tuned it in and notched out all signals except for the one that was emitted when triggered by the matching earring. The search began, of course it was in the area of the mint plants. Why? Well, the first sniff of the mint brought back memories of the fresh mint sauce my grandmother would make from the fresh mint I had picked for her. This would have been enough gratification for my day’s effort. That was not to last long as there was a more important task at hand. I moved to the area of the shed a few swings of the detector and the ring of gold was in my ears. But I did not see the object causing the detector to react. I turned on my small handheld pin-pointer to search the grass area. It did its job and now I saw the earring, took a picture, retrieved it, and returned to to a now smiling Anne.

Neither my wife nor I had ever been to Martha’s Vineyard. She had made the trip with me to keep me company and visit an area we had planned to visit. Anne was gracious and offered a tour of the island and a stop at Martha’s Vineyard Museum, the Camp area and ending up at the Backdoor Donuts. I just had to bring home some of the area’s BEST Apple Fritter. A sweet and perfect ending to a return that could not have been better.

A couple from Washington was visiting San Diego early this year of 2022 when this priceless platinum diamond ring went missing in the beach sand. They happened to have found my contact info online through TheRingFinders website and called me after searching fruitlessly sifting through the sand countless hours to anvil. I was able to meet them the same evening that day and helped them out within just a few minutes of scanning around.

If you can only imagine being in someone else’s shoes on either side,,what would you do? Me personally,,I go out of my way for good Karma with my metal detector on any pickings of any day or week. Beautiful, Sentimental Gold Charms Lost, Recovered and Returned in Swedesboro, NJ!

Got a late night text from Renee after she found me in the Ring Finder Directory. After a few days of frantic searching and the purchase and attempted use of a cheap metal detector she decided to reach out to a professional! In our text conversation she shared with me that she was out berry-picking at her home in the Swedesboro, NJ area when her hand got caught in her beautiful gold, charm-laden necklace and the chain broke spilling all the charms over a grassy area. She was able to find the chain and 2-3 of the charms but couldn’t locate 2 of them. She told me that she acquired the charms in France many years ago….and they were extremely important to her. I agreed to meet her the following afternoon. Upon arrival to her home I first asked to see the similar charms she was able to recover….I scanned them with my detector to firstly make sure my machine could pick them up and secondly to calibrate my machine to pick up just them when scanning the area. She made it easy for me by marking the area where the chain broke and she found several of the charms. I was about 3 minutes into the search when my machine let out a sweet low tone that suggested gold! With Renee at my shoulder I bent down and pushed some grass out of the way….there they were! The immediate relief and joy showing on Renee’s face makes it all worth it! I was very happy to be able to reunite Renee with her very important and sentimental charms!

… Steve called me for help finding his Platinum wedding band. Lost in the sand near the Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, CA. He said his friends were coming with a metal detector they purchased from a local sporting goods shop. 

I told him that it would be more than an hour till I could meet him on the beach. It would be dark but, if they stayed in the location it shouldn’t take long to find his ring. I only asked if he found it before I got there, please call me. Otherwise I will be there as soon as possible. Los Angeles freeways are unpredictable when it comes to traffic delays. 

I arrived at 8pm in the darkness. They showed me where Steve was standing when the ring slipped off his finger. Turn on my detector and take a few swings ,BINGO.. Platinum ring in my sand scoop. 

Every one was happy and they all learned that it isn’t easy to work a metal detector they had purchased at the store.

Lost Ring in the Water, Pensacola Beach – FOUND!!!

I’m so glad that I could help out Holden and his wife Sellers this weekend. Holden called and told me that they had spent the day before playing in the water behind their condo and they had been anywhere from ankle deep to 10ft deep. He had recognized that he didn’t want to lose his ring so he took it off and put it in the zippered pocket of his swim trunks. When he went to reach for it later in the day, you guessed it, there was a large hole in the bottom of the pocket and no ring. Holden decided to put a quarter or two in the pocket and start walking from shore to see what happened. They quickly came out so he marked the area he thought his ring might be in and went inside to call me after an internet search. We talked and agreed that I would come out and search the water as deep as I could wade and then if needed I would come later with scuba gear.   When I got there Holden told me that I would probably have a curious audience because his entire extended family was watching from the condo balcony. Holden had paid such great attention to every detail that he really made my job easy. On about the 3rd pass or so out to deep water I got a great gold tone in about waist deep water. Everyone got to cheer and watch as Holden got his ring back. I’m very glad that I got to help y’all. Sew that pocket up and enjoy the rest of your time at the condo. 😃

Lost Rose Gold & Diamonds Wedding Ring at Kuhio Beach Waikiki…FOUND!!!

This Ring Find began when I got a call from Scott who was on vacation from Melbourne, Australia with his lovely wife Monali. While enjoying the cool waters of Kuhio Beach Waikiki Monali put her rings in a towel and then a chair pocket for safekeeping while they went swimming. When she returned Scott handed her the towel and her Engagement and Wedding Rings fell into the sand. They instantly saw the Engagement Ring but the Wedding Ring dreadfully disappeared. They searched for awhile but it became hopeless. Scott found The Ring Finders during a lost ring search on Google and that’s where I come in. I told Scott I could meet him in Waikiki in about 20 minutes so he could walk me down to where the ring was lost. Thankfully, although the beach was crowded the search area was clear. I fired up the Nox and immediately started getting targets. There were bottle caps everywhere. I removed several and moved to cover another part of the grid away from them. I instantly got a surface 10-11 screamer and in one scoop there was Monali’s beautiful Rose Gold and Diamonds Wedding Ring in the scoop. Scott was so relieved and knew his vacation could now continue normally. He met up with Monali later and they sent me the happy selfie. Aloha to Monali & Scott.
