Matapouri Lost Ring – Found!

  • from Paihia (New Zealand)

Ring Finder – Ring Recovery Specialist…Lost ring? Lost necklace? Lost keys?… Metal Detector Service – Call ASAP 021 401626

Matapouri Bay is a very popular beach on the Tutukaka coast with its soft yellow-gold sand and clear ocean water. Unfortunately the beach environment is also one of the prime locations for lost items.
Loss of a ring at the beach is usually due to that fateful combination of sunscreen and wet hands, which can stealthily remove rings, sometimes without the wearer even being aware.
It is advisable to leave rings at home when visiting the beach. At the very least taking them off and leaving them somewhere safe, in a pocket or bag.
However despite precautions, even being in a pocket can be no guarantee that the beach won’t take and hide your precious jewellery…As Tuyana found out a week ago.

She had been enjoying the day at the beach with family, and took her sentimental gold and emerald ring off and put it in the pocket of a dress laying with some other clothes for safekeeping.

At the end of the day, the dress was collected during packing up and when the pocket was later checked for the ring, it was missing.

And so began another ring recovery story.

A local offered to try and locate the ring the following morning with his metal detector, although regrettably was unsuccessful.
After a detailed phone conversation later in the week with Tuyana, I headed down to Matapouri from the Bay of Islands the following weekend to see what I could do.

I had another appointment at Tutukaka at 9am, so made it an early start, leaving at 2am and was on the beach just before 4. I have found four hours searching is usually sufficient to secure 90% of rings – if there is an accurate start point.

By torchlight, I marked out the various high, medium and low probability areas between the ‘towel spot’ on the beach, and the carpark. Then switched the torch off and after a few minutes to allow the eyes to recover, started searching by starlight. One of the joys of having an audio-only machine with no menus or target ID numbers to read.
The area where Tuyana was sitting was probably clear, having already been searched. I rechecked it anyway [Assume Nothing, Believe No-one, Check Everything].

Now I moved into the almost arcane side of things…
We, as a species, are really quite predictable in our unconscious movements.
Have you been on a walk and seen a puddle on the track with new routes caused by people walking around, rather than through it?
Crossing the road, you always adjust your step to land on the curb, not in the gutter… This concept follows through into Ring Finding.

Just under an hour from starting, and while searching the margins around Tuyanas likely path back to the car, I found myself crawling around under one of the boardwalks that leads down onto the beach.
I carefully and systematically checked around each supporting post. Heavy stainless fittings meant the main coil was no good, so it was inch by inch with the handheld pinpointer.
At the third or fourth post, I got a signal just off to the side, I scooped the sand with my hand, and my fingers closed on the shape of a ring.

After verifying by touch that it wasn’t one of those old-style ‘Beaver Tail’ pulltabs off a drinks can, I flicked the headlamp on and sitting in my hand was a beautiful emerald ring.
At just after 6am, I felt it was early enough to text Tuyana and let her know. After all, how better to wake up to the new day knowing your precious lost ring is now found?

Later that morning, after my other appointment, I got to meet Tuyana and add her smile to my collection, then drove off with my own smile.

Job done.

LOST WEDDING RING IN APEX, NC…….. FOUND!!!!!!

Shawn SGT Sherrill – Ring Recovery Specialist…Lost your ring?… Call/Text ASAP  Anytime 24/7   918-313-2202!

Not the prettiest recovery I have ever done, but at least the sentimental aspect and symbolic meaning behind a wedding ring is still there, recovered and given back to the owner. This flattened platinum and rose gold wedding ring will need a little TLC, but I think it can be repaired.

Got a text message about a gentleman who lost his ring a week and a half ago while sledding with the family. He took his glove off once and that must have been the time when he lost it. When he texted me, he said it was either at his house in his front yard or at the hill where they were sledding. I started off at his house, figured that would’ve been the fastest and the easiest, since the yard was small and grass wasn’t that thick. I scanned it in no time and didn’t find his ring.

I drove down the road to the sled slope and began detecting. After about 15 mins, I realized it wasn’t there and started to walk away when I noticed a shiny bar-like item in the road. I walked over and picked it up and realized, « IT WAS THE RING!!! » flattened, but it was the ring!

I texted the gentleman, sent photos and told him I found it, but he wasn’t going to like how it looks! He responded with « Awww, THAT DOES SUCK, BUT THAT’S ALRIGHT, I’LL KEEP IT AS A MEMENTO »

1971 Farmington High Class Ring Lost 51 Years Returned to Owner

  • from Wixom (Michigan, United States)

It is not that huge a feat to find a lost ring.  I becomes much easier if the person who lost the ring can point to an approximate spot they think they lost it.  Finding a ring with just dumb luck is easy too.  I have handfuls of rings I have recovered in my travels from schools, ball diamonds, parks, and beaches.  Finding a ring and then locating the owner is almost an impossibility.  I have only done it one other time.

George lost his ring playing baseball.  He and his friends looked up and down and could not locate the ring.  Fifty one years later on a different ring call, I found George’s long lost ring.

Lost class ring from 1971

Close up Farmington High 1971 Class Ring

To find George I joined face book.  Our graduating class is working on a reunion and I was sure someone would know the owner.  Our yearbook does not show middle initials; but George quickly surfaced as a candidate and soon after that we were talking on the phone.

The happy owner is reunited with his ring

Ring returned to owner after 51 years!!

George and I are actually classmates, we both graduated from Farmington High School  (Farmington Michigan) in 1971.  I knew George’s name and that he had a cool car; but we never socialized.  I wish we had talked years earlier.

If you have lost something dear and think you know where it might be,  I would love to help you recover it.  Even long lost, as George found out, is only a temporary condition if you know where to start looking.

Bracelet lost at Mission Beach Found

  • from La Jolla (California, United States)

Meridith was playing volleyball and after hitting the ball, her special bracelet came off and disappeared into the fluffy dry sand. She found TheRingFinders.com online and my contact info. When she called, my wife and I were at a wedding, so, we made arrangements to meet at the site later that night at 9pm. Meridith had only been playing on one side of the court, so, this should be a quick and easy find……that is, until I found out the bracelet doesn’t have any large segments on it and was a very fine, small linked chain. These volleyball courts are detected quite often, so, there shouldn’t been much in the way of targets. I found that to be true and as expected. I started a grid and didn’t get a single target until about half way through the court. I got the weakest, mixed ferrous/non-ferrous signal, one I would normally not even investigate if I were just detecting for fun, but, I couldn’t pass this up since it was my only signal so far. My pin pointer didn’t even hit on it very well, so, it took a few tries to zero in on the target. In pulling up a handful of sand Meridith and I both saw a chain hanging out of my hand. Success! A pleasure to meet you Meridith and thank you for the reward.

Gold Wedding Band Lost, Recovered and Returned in Philadelphia, PA!

  • from Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, United States)

Received a late night text from Pedro seeking help in finding his recently lost rose gold wedding band. In speaking with Pedro the following morning he shared that he suffered a sleepless night thinking of his lost band which had disappeared off his finger the day before. We had a big snowstorm in Philadelphia Friday night and the next day Pedro and his wife, Bruna, went for a little adventure in the snowy park nearby. He shared with me that his ring was only 10 months old….a little  loose and he had just put moisturizer on his hands prior to leaving for the park. While at the park he removed his gloves at different times to take pictures with his phone. He did not realize his ring was missing off his hand till later that evening at home.

I agreed to meet them with my metal detector at the park Sunday morning. Here is the good news…Pedro had a pretty good idea as to the areas where they stopped and he took off his gloves to take pictures…he also told me his wife wears the exact ring as him(maybe a little smaller) enabling me to scan it and set up my detector to zero in on it. Here is the bad news….huge park…big crowds…and they covered quite a bit of ground on their walk. When I got to the park I was a little intimidated by the size of the search area…but my experience always tells me to start at the end of the walk and/or where they feel they most likely lost and work toward the beginning. I firstly had Bruna put her identical ring on the ground and demonstrated to them that if they put me over the lost one I will definitely pick it up with my machine…I was also able to eliminate signals from all other metals. We then proceeded to walk a 1/4 mile through the park to the very end of their adventure where they stopped to make a snowman and Pedro took pictures. It was the most amazing thing….while I had a little bit of a feeling that I was  searching for a needle in a haystack I also felt good about the strategy to start searching where I did. I started to detect around the area where they built the snowman and was on my 4th pass when I got a good signal on my machine….I looked down and there was a gold rim just breaking the surface of snow! I couldn’t believe it…don’t think I even searched 10 minutes! I didn’t even bend down… I looked at Bruna and Pedro and smiled. They both said no way! I called Pedro over and pointed at the snow…I think us Ring Finders live for this moment! To say they were surprised and excited would be an understatement. They were such a nice couple…it brought me such great joy to be able to come trough for them. They will be heading back to Brazil next year…its cool that I was able to provide such a great and interesting memory from there time here!

Making Snow Angels = Lost Ring in Collingswood NJ Found by Dave Milsted

I received a call from Katelyn. She told me that her husband lost his rose gold wedding ring in their yard yesterday after we received 8 inches of new snow. They have been trying to melt some of the snow after having someone with a metal detector out yesterday with no luck.

I was at their house about 20 minutes later. Mike & Katelyn came out and showed me what happened. He had just got done making a snow angel and was flicking his hands trying to get the snow off, and away went his ring.

I turned on my machine and there was a ton of interference. A neighbor must be sending out radio waves to aliens. I tried everything to make the interference stop, no luck. I had MIke place a coin on the ground to make sure I would be able to hear the signal through the noise, and it works.

I started searching the area. I found the gas line and the waterline. I had a few other signals that were under the frozen ground. Then I got a signal that moved when I tried to clear away the snow. SUCCESS! What a beautiful rose-colored gold ring it was! It took about 15 minutes to find. Both Mike & Katelyn were so happy. They thought that they might have to wait until spring to find it.

Thank you to Karen & Lynda for recommending me on Facebook!

November 2021 Carolyn contacted me sharing her story of how she had just become engaged to her fiancé when the unthinkable happened. Just a few days later her newly received loose fitting precious rose gold moss agate diamond engagement ring had gone missing. She explained that she had place the ring on her finger while sorting some Christmas decorations in her home and the ring actually fell of her finger onto a front room table. At this point her gut told her she should put it up in a safe place until she could have it sized by a jeweler. However the excitement and meaning of the ring over came her and she put it back on her finger anyway thinking this was most likely not the best idea. She continued working on Christmas decorations in her home for quite a while. She used her hands quite a bit placing ornaments and a new string of Christmas lights inside a special Christmas pig for her front yard. The time came when she went out side where she had strung some lights on a tree, placed the Christmas pig in the front yard and set some other Christmas lights throughout her landscaping. After this she went inside and organized a few boxes and bags full of holiday items. She also remembered accessing her back yard to secure her chicken coop for the night. Quite a few things were very concerning to her as her ring is one of a thiner dainty sized ring making it easy to hide in so many places.

Of course I agreed to assist Carolyn and reassured her over our initial phone conversation. I reminded her in her situation it was good that she had not left the residence and they still had all of their household garbage. So for all practical reasoning her ring had to be some place on the premise and I would do all I could to recover her newly received engagement ring. After I showed up Carolyn’s fiancé took there dog for a walk so that distraction would not be an issue. Carolyn, with great detail, shared all the places and activities she had done must prior to loosing her ring. After a short time searching I was able to recover her ring in pristine condition.

Watch this video to see the exciting conclusion and over joyed reaction when Carolyn’s gets her beloved engagement ring returned to her finger.

Lost Class Ring Found!! Farmington High 1971

  • from Wixom (Michigan, United States)
I got a ring call the other day that was interesting.  Another one of those « she threw it out the window » stories.  They were driving down Shiawassee road in Farmington.  Just kids, and they would not agree to let me photograph or blog.  I found the ring, his mothers previously, without too much trouble.  While I was searching I came up with a second ring, a 1971 Farmington High class ring.

I almost had a coronary because I graduated from Farmington High more than 50 years ago.  I lost my 1971 class ring in the student parking lot a few months before graduation.  I could almost see that parking lot from the spot I found this ring.  Wrong initials, sadly, it is not my ring.

I have a few guesses as to who lost it from my 1971 yearbook; but I cant be sure because there are no middle initials in the yearbook.  Both my brother and I graduated from Farmington High in 1971 and neither one of us received any mention anywhere in the yearbook, so there may be a few more candidates than the three I have so far isolated.

There is a class reunion this September, stay tuned while I attempt to find the ring owner.

I posted a quick recovery video on YouTube  https://youtu.be/wulmhXtBi6U

LOST RING IN RALEIGH, NC…… FOUND!

Today was another happy story! I got a text message from Tim, who saw a post on a local buy sale trade site. He told me he had lost his ring 15 years ago while doing yard work. He normally puts it in his little pocket of his jeans when he does yard work. As he put it in his pocket, he either pulled it back out as his fingers slid out or it missed the pocket all together and just fell to the ground.

We set up a date/time for me to try to find his ring. I met up with him at his house and he gave me the lay of the land. He went over his movements from 15 years ago and gave me a general area of where he lost it. After about 35 mins, I get a VDI 55 on my Garrett AT MAX. I popped the plug and BOOM I saw round, gold & shiny!! Pulled it out, cleaned it off and drove it to where Tim worked. He was supper happy and excited, as he didn’t expect me to find it!

Lost Gold and Diamond Ring, Palm Harbor, Fl. …Found!!

Lost a ring or other metal valuable in a grassy or sandy areaJewelry slip off of you while working outside or swimming? Please call me ASAP at (843)995-4719. I offer a free metal detecting service, reward optional but appreciated upon recovery!

I received a call from Miti who was referred to me through the Ring Finders website by a local metal detector store owner. She explained to me that her mother who was visiting from India was throwing some food to a deer who had approached a fence that separated Miti’s yard from the adjacent woods when her beautiful gold ring flew from her finger into the high weeds and brush. Miti’s husband Rachit met me when I arrived and showed me the area where they believe the ring had landed which was within about five feet of the fence. I crossed over the short wire fence and began to press my detector coil down into the thick weeds because it was very difficult to swing it back and forth. After about ten minutes of searching I rang up a 16-17 on my Equinox 600 which was within the range I was looking for, pushed the tall weeds aside with my gloved hand, and uncovered the beautiful gold ring! I held the ring up for Rachit to see and he had a big smile on his face. After I took several photos of the ring where I found it, I returned the ring to Rachit who in turn gave it to Miti. As Miti’s mother had returned to India the day before without her precious ring, this was a very emotional return so I simply took a photo of the ring on Miti’s hand and respected their right to privacy.

Miti and Rachit, thank you for contacting the Dunedin Ring Finder and trusting me to return this beautiful ring to you. Thank you for the generous reward as well!
