Received a call from a young man on the volleyball courts. Everybody was looking, without success, for the ring he had just lost. Luck  had it that I was 10 minutes away with all my equipment already inside my vehicle. Outside of the pepper spray incident, we were able to, in a matter of minutes,  locate his grandmother’s ring after the clasp of the necklace he hung it on broke.   He was overjoyed to have the ring his grandmother gave him before he left for Canada back.

2 Rings Lost in the Sand, Found and Returned on Ocean Isle Beach, NC

I saw a post on one of the Face Book pages I’m a member of saying, “Does anyone have a metal detector I could borrow tomorrow morning? We’re staying on the west side and have lost a ring in the sand…” I responded saying “If I can help, call me.” I also attached the link to my blog on TheRingFinders.com web site. Within a few minutes, I received a text from Morgan asking what my rates were and whether I was available the next morning. I told her that I do this on a gratuity or reward basis and I’m available at any time. We agreed that I’d meet her between 8-8:30 a.m. today, Tuesday, Sept 7th.

When I arrived I met Morgan in the driveway of their rental and she explained what happened on our way out to the beach. She said that she had put 3 rings in the cup holder of one of the beach chairs. Later that day, as they were going in for the day, her sister picked up the chairs and the rings went flying. With a family search, 1 of the rings was found lying on top of the sand; the other 2 had disappeared and were buried. Morgan’s mother had joined us on the beach and pointed out the suspected 15-20 foot square area. After a few grid lines, I hit dual signals which meant both rings were in the same spot, inches apart. I took a scoop of sand and dumped it out on the beach. When I did, I saw Morgan’s Silver and Gold ring packed in the sand. This one had sentimental value, as it was a college graduation present. I reached down and picked it up, cleaned out the sand, then held it up for Morgan to see. She came running over, very excited, with a huge smile on her face. I handed her the 1st ring and now to find the 2nd one. I turned back around to the sand pile and Bingo; there it was sticking out of the sand. Both rings are back where they belong with another chapter to add to their stories.

Lost wallet in the water, Atlantic Ocean, Daytona Beach….Found and Returned to owner!

While searching for a lost silver cross and chain for a young man from Wisconsin, I dug up someones wallet in the knee deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean. That’s not something we find very often and from the looks and condition of the wallet and the contents inside I could tell it had been there for a couple of months, at least. I never did find the silver cross but who knows it may show up yet! Plus that very same day I eyeballed a really nice lady’s diamond ring that is waiting to be reunited with its rightful owner. So after I got home and got myself and my gear all cleaned up I took out the wallet I had found and started going through the contents. First off it had a flat magnet and a flat metal plate sewn inside the wallet that helped keep it in the closed position. And it was those two pieces of metal that helped me find the wallet under all that sand. It contained three credit cards, one Florida Resident fishing license, a drivers license and 52 dollars in bills. Not a bad score for a day at the beach!

Later that evening I did a little investigation on line and found the owner of the wallets family and gave them a call. A few days later the wallet and all the contents were put in an envelope and mailed off to Jacksonville, Florida and here is the response that Coby sent me a week later.

« Hi Mike, I wanted to say thank you so much for sending my wallet, cards and cash back to me in one piece! Although the cards are no longer useful, it is great to have my ID and especially the cash again. My sister Rachel (with me in the picture) told me you washed, dried and ironed it! I appreciate what you do for people and as a Christian man myself, I thank God for people like you! You do the world a service unlike no other and people like you make the world go ’round’! Please let me know if you ever need anything from me. I am truly in your debt and thankful to you and the Lord for this reunion! Take good care of yourself and keep up the wonderful work! Kelly messaged me through my Dunedin Ring Finder page after someone referred me from a local discussion page called Palm Harbor Happenings. Earlier that day she and her husband were throwing a football at the beach  when Kelly’s large gold ring given to her by her grandmother flew off her hand into the water. I met Kelly on site the following day at approximately the same tide time and she showed me the area fairly close to a rock breakwater where she thought the ring may have landed. At the time the water was knee to waist deep. I grid searched for a couple of hours while Kelly looked on but only recovered a few coins and some beach trash. Kelly had to go to work so I searched an hour longer but  no luck. I left the beach and returned at low tide later in the day but only recovered a few more coins, fishing weights and a costume jewelry earring. After a long day of searching including around the breakwater, I told Kelly I would return the next day and retrace my steps in the area she had initially pointed out. Late the next afternoon I had been searching for about an hour when I got a steady 9 VDI on the Equinox 600. After a couple of scoops I pulled Kelly’s beautiful ring out of the water! She was ecstatic (followed by seven exclamation points)! I returned this beautiful ring to her the next morning. Kelly, thank you for contacting me and trusting the Dunedin Ring Finder to return your grandmother’s ring to you. And thank you for the generous reward!

Received a text asking me to locate a wedding ring yesterday. Due to the incoming storm, I went today and found out her son had gotten ahold of her rings and threw them out on the lawn or in shrubs. They had already found the engagement ring in the neighbors curb lawn, but the wedding ring was still missing. After spending about an hour searching their lawn and shrubs I finally found it on the neighbors lawn. , SUCCESS!!!

Diamond Wedding Rings Lost Two Months Ago Found In Morehead City Waters

Amanda explained to me, two months ago, her daughter had cut her foot in the waters of a small Morehead City, NC beach.  During the excitement, Amanda had taken off her long sleeve coverup shirt to wrap her daughters food on the beach.  She told me that is where she thought her rings were pulled from her finger.  She explained she had a group with metal detectors come out the July 4th weekend to help locate the missing rings.  It wasn’t until a friend had heard about The Ring Finders on a radio broadcast and this lead Amanda to contact Crystal Coast Ring Finders.  My first attempt was to thoroughly search the beach and shallow water.  This beach was full of various garbage, mostly aluminum which is a nemesis to detectorist.  My second day attempt was planned so that it would be during a low tide and more importantly, early enough in the morning that nobody would be in the way of my search.  I arrived at 6am, just before it was getting light enough to see.  I began a search from beach to water and back.  Each time I would go in just above knee deep water as Amanda told me it happened at low tide that day and the deepest she went was knee deep water.  I must admit my doubts of finding the rings lost in a public area 2 months prior were in my mind.  I also knew if I don’t try all possible areas, I wouldn’t be assured I tried my best.  The waters still produced a large amount of aluminum and each time I would try to scoop the target and dump it into my floating sifter.  I was in an area with multiple targets around me when I dumped a scoopful and was about to dig again when I glanced over to see Amanda’s wedding band laying in the basket.  I was in knee deep water at the time.  The very next scoop raised her beautiful engagement ring!

Amanda was very close by and I called her just before 8 am to ask her to come down and help me narrow my search area because of the numerous garbage items I was digging.  Amanda showed up with her daughter and at one point when she looked away, I held out both of her lost rings.  She looked back and noticed in disbelief her rings in my hand.  It is moments like this that make me proud to return items that have so much meaning!

Ring lost at La Jolla found

Charles and his wife Yolanda were spending the day at a small beach in La Jolla when a ball flew down from the cliff up above and landed close to where they were sitting. Charles grabbed the ball and while throwing it, his rose gold wedding band flew off and into the dry sand. He search for quite a while without success. An online search brought him to TheRingFinders.com website and my contact info. I gathered my gear and headed to their location. I was even lucky enough to find a parking spot fairly close to where they were. Charles met me up on the cliff and we proceeded to the search area. Maybe 2 minutes later, I get a solid 20 on my Equinox and I mentioned to Charles that it’s probably a zinc cent, or, it could possibly be his ring if it was big enough. Sure enough, it was plenty big! A pleasure to meet you both and thank you for the reward.

Lost Ring Morristown NJ… Found!

Adam called me looking for some help finding his platinum wedding band which he lost about a week and a half ago.  His 4-year-old son had asked to see the ring in the house, but then went out in the backyard and ran around.  Needless to say, the ring fell off while he was out in the yard and was lost in the grass.  We made plans to meet the next day at his house to search the yard.  I started my search close to the house and made grid lines with my feet.  About 75% through the yard, I got a solid 16 showing at a depth of 1 shovel on my Equinox 800.  Sure enough,   there was the ring.  It’s always a great feeling to be able to find and return a ring!  And, it’s even better when it’s a person as nice as Adam and his family! 🙂

Lost and Found 14k engagement ring, Green Bay, WI

I received a call and message from Somer the afternoon of Saturday, October 30th, 2020 (Halloween mind you) sharing she lost her engagement ring in the front yard of her residence. She explained to me the night before friends were over for a social gathering. Somer mentioned she took her ring off to show one of her friends. The friend gave it back while Somer was getting her mail from the mailbox during the evening hours. She decided to put the ring on the mail instead of back on her finger. Well, the ring fell off the mail into the grass (so she strongly believed and thought!) Somer and her fiancé, Nate, spend a better part of the day on their hands and knees looking for ring without success. So, I took my trusty CTX 3030 and began swinging my machine with a small coil since there was a lot of targets in the yard and very close together. My first target rang up “gold” and on the surface…Somer was excited thinking and believing it was her ring…I did too…wrong!!…just under the eyesight of the grass, up popped a nickel. Both Somer and I were thoroughly disappointed. I continued detecting and digging anything that was noting on my machine 2” or less knowing and expecting a surface find. While I was doing my part searching the grass meticulously and the path Somer took from the mailbox to the garage, Nate was meandering on the road near the mailbox, he saw the ring near a manhole cover…right out in the open. None of us have any idea how the ring found its way from the mailbox on the street and not on the grass. Though, I did not find the ring directly, I’d like to believe I shared in the success of rescuing. Ring found and put back on Somer’s hand. She was ecstatic and was a team effort to find. We wish Somer and Nate many wonderful future memories in the years to come. Somer was uncomfortable having her face posted. GB Ring Pic 103020
