I got a text yesterday afternoon from Denise. She was in a bit of a panic because she had just lost her wedding ring of 40 years at Mondos while she was swimming in the ocean. She was able to give me the exact time of 1:20pm because in her words, she just felt it slip right off in about 6 feet of water while she was swimming. The tide at that time was around a 2.5 so I checked the tides and I had one chance to recover the ring if I could get far enough out in the water and that was at 3:45am the next day.

There were several things stacked against me. She didn’t know exactly how far out she was, there was absolutely no moonlight whatsoever and the beach at Mondo’s has been inundated with seaweed both in the water and on the sand so this was going to be a miracle. So I prayed and got to Mondo’s at 3:30 this morning. With the tide being a -1.3 I was able to get pretty far out but unfortunately not far enough as the ring was further out than I had hoped. I slowly started working my way out and when I was nearly waste deep I finally got a target that made sense. In between waves I positioned my scoop behind my Minelab manticore and dug. Instead of getting it though the waves had caused me to push the target away rather than in my scoop. I steadied myself again, waited for the wave to pass and scooped and this time I had Denise’s ring! Dave The RingFinder with another ring recovery this time in the ocean!

Yesterday afternoon I got  call from Ross explaining that his wife had lost her wedding ring at the beach in the Pierpont area of Ventura. She had been brushing off some sand and in doing so her ring flew off to an unknown stretch of sand. I was out of town at that moment so I told Ross I would get out there at sun up Monday morning and recover the ring for them. He sent me a pin of the general location and I assured him that if it was there I would find the ring.

As stated I got out there just before the sunrise and started working the area gridding and expanding as I went. Jen met me out there and we determined that I should move a bit south and grid there. After several passes we expanded the zone and then on the next pass I got a sweet tone on my Minelab Manticore that told me a ring recovery was imminent and sure enough in the scoop was Jen’s wedding ring! Another ring returned to it’s owner by Dave The RingFinder!

I got a call yesterday afternoon from Grant. His wife had lost her heirloom wedding ring in the sand at Thornehill Broome Beach in Malibu. Evidently she had shaken her hound out to get sand off and when she did her ring went flying and landed somewhere in the dry sand. They spent the next few hours frantically searching in that sand to no avail. Finally they took to the internet and found Dave The RingFinder and gave me a call. I made immediate plans to leave and get down to them and off I went.

I met them at the location and we talked about where it could have gone. I assured them I would find it in no time as I would grid the area and I would find it. I made a couple passes on the perimeter of the search area and when I moved in I got a sweet sound on my Minelab manticore and we had the ring back! This was a mission critical ring as it had been passed down several generations and was eventually going to her daughter for when she got married. Dave The RingFinder for the win!

The other night, I got a call from Bryn, who was in a bind. He and his wife Camille had spent a sunny day at Solimar Beach in Ventura County, soaking up the sand and surf. But when they got home, Bryn noticed his wedding ring was gone. He remembered where they’d been sitting on the beach, though he’d wandered a bit—making trips around the area—so he wasn’t sure if it was lost in the sand or elsewhere. Time was ticking, but Solimar Beach isn’t a hot spot for other detectorists, so I knew we had a solid shot at ring recovery in Ventura County if it was there.
I arrived at Solimar Beach, zeroed in on their spot, and started gridding the sand with my Minelab Manticore. After a couple of passes, I hit a crisp 54-55 tone—a number that often means a zinc penny, but I had a hunch. I plunged my CKG titanium scoop into the sand, shook it out, and felt something hefty. There it was: a stunning 18k gold hammered men’s wedding ring—one of the most beautiful recoveries I’ve made in Ventura County. I thanked God for the find and called Bryn with the good news. He and Camille were overjoyed, and we set up a meet to reunite him with his ring.

A Tale of Hope: Recovering a Lost Wedding Ring at Pierpont Ventura Beach

  • from Santa Barbara (California, United States)

In the midst of the evening, a distressed call pierced the silence, summoning aid for a lost wedding ring amidst the sands of Pierpont Ventura Beach. Hastily, I gathered my gear—headlamp, detector, and scoop—and embarked on a nocturnal rescue mission.

Upon arrival, I met Sarah, the bearer of the sorrowful tale of her lost ring. The scorching heat wave in Ventura County had driven her, along with her four children and two dogs, to seek solace by the tranquil shores. Unbeknownst to her, amidst the day’s chaos, her wedding ring had slipped away, lost in the vast expanse of sand.

Undeterred by the encroaching darkness and enveloping fog, I commenced the search, tracing meticulous grid patterns along the dry sand. Despite my efforts, the elusive ring remained elusive, concealed by the night’s cloak. Determined, I vowed to return at dawn, when daylight would illuminate the path to recovery.

With the rising sun casting its golden rays upon the shoreline, I resumed the quest, retracing my steps and expanding the search radius. Despite Sarah’s belief that the ring lay buried within the dry sand, I ventured into the wet sands, propelled by intuition. And there, amidst the lapping waves, a glimmer of hope emerged—a strong signal echoing through the morning air.

With bated breath, I plunged the scoop into the dampened earth, and lo and behold, Sarah’s cherished ring emerged, glistening in the sunlight. A beacon of joy amidst the vast expanse of sand, its recovery marked a triumph of perseverance and dedication.

As Sarah reunited with her precious symbol of love, she shared the poignant tale of survival and resilience behind the ring’s significance. A survivor of the Las Vegas shooting, the ring bore witness to moments of fear and faith, a testament to the enduring power of love and hope.

Beyond the sands of Pierpont Ventura Beach, an unexpected twist awaited—a serendipitous connection between Sarah and my wife, who had once taught her in second grade. In the tapestry of life, every thread intertwines, weaving tales of resilience, compassion, and connection.
