Cooling Off After a Bike Race Ends with a Happy Recovery

What started as the perfect way to cool off after a bike race quickly turned into a stressful situation.

After finishing the race, the owner decided to wade into a small river to cool down. While enjoying the water, his wedding ring slipped off his finger and disappeared beneath the riverbed. After searching without any luck, he contacted us, hoping there was still a chance of getting it back.

The sooner we can get to a lost item, the better, so we made arrangements to head out right away.

Before long, we got the signal we were hoping for.

Hidden beneath the riverbed was the missing wedding ring! It was an incredible feeling to bring it back to its owner only a short time after it had been lost.

Recoveries like this are a great reminder that even if an item disappears underwater, all hope isn’t lost. Whether it’s a lake, river, beach, or pond, having the right equipment and experience can make all the difference.

Gold Necklace and Pendant Recovered Crystal Beach Ontario

Sometimes the best recoveries start with a simple conversation.

While spending the day at the beach, we met a local couple, Jacob and his partner, who were enjoying the water. We got chatting about what we do with Dive Detecting and the Ring Finders network, and we even joked about being careful with their jewelry while swimming.

As it turned out, that advice couldn’t have been more timely!

Later that same day, Jacob lost his necklace and cross pendant in the water. After searching on their own without success, they headed online the following day looking for someone who could help. To their surprise, the first familiar face they saw was ours on the Ring Finders website, the same people they had spoken with just the day before.

We arranged to head to the beach and got to work. The necklace took some time to locate, but after a careful and methodical search, we heard the unmistakable signal. Buried beneath the sand was Jacob’s necklace. A short time later, another solid target led us to the missing cross pendant.

Recoveries like this are a great reminder that accidents can happen in seconds, but with the right equipment and a little persistence, treasured items can often be reunited with their owners.

I received a call from Jordan. Jordan explained that she was enjoying a day at the beach with her family. Jordan decided to wade into the water but took off her rings and was in the process of handing them to her dad when they slipped from his grip and fell into the water. The rings immediately disappeared. Jordan and both of her parents began frantically searching but repeatedly came up empty-handed. That’s when a neighboring beachgoer handed Jordan one of my cards. I took the short ride over from home and met up with the family on the beach less than 15 minutes later after gathering the backstory I found Jordan‘s mother standing in the water, right where the rings dropped. I proceeded into the water and on the first swing, got a low growl tone. After a couple scoops of sand, I had Jordan‘s ring back in my scoop.  Jordan‘s mother explained that this Ring was passed down to Jordan through the family over the years, so even though it was small in size, it had a tremendous amount of sentimental value attached to it. Another happy family another successful recovery!

Lost ring in Fremont California

A couple of weeks ago Stephen contacted me about his wife’s lost ring.  He said that it was most likely in their back yard, with very specific spots where it could be.  However he mentioned that the only other place it could be was inside their house.  So we agreed that I would search the yard at least to hopefully find the lost ring, or at least eliminate the possibility if we were unsuccessful.

I arrived at Stephen’s house the next day and he outlined the most likely locations of where his wife’s ring was lost.  I got started and after spending about 30 minutes in those locations we decided to expand the search to some less likely spots where his wife remembered being the night she lost her ring.  But further expanding the search area proved fruitless as well.

After checking a couple of very unlikely but possible spots and also double checking the entire perimeter that I had searched, Stephen, his wife, and I discussed the situation again and decided to have them search the inside of their house again.  In talking about their prior search of the house his wife described a rattling sound in the couch when they were searching around in the cushions.  So I said, « You better search that couch again! »  I told them I would be glad to come back if they had any other ideas or wanted more help searching inside their house as well, but that I had a strong suspicion that the ring was in the couch.

Sure enough, 15 minutes later, Stephen texted me that they had found the ring in the couch!  I’m glad the process of elimination resulted in honing down their search area to the next most likely location which turned out to be the exact location that it was lost.

Found 22k Yellow Sapphire Ring on Davenport Beach

A couple of evenings ago fellow ring finder and metal detector expert Tom Tanner contacted me asking if I could get to a lost ring on a beach in Davenport, California.  Davenport is about 25 minutes away from my house, and the gentleman who lost the ring was able to find Tom through the ring finders network for assistance.  Indu had lost his ring a week earlier and I knew there would be a strong chance that through several tide cycles the ring had moved, had possibly been driven deep into the sand, or had even been found already.

After several emails during a busy day at work I agreed to meet the unfortunate gentleman Indu.  We agreed to meet at the beach at 8:00 am this morning.  As soon as Indu arrived he saw where he was standing when he lost his ring and how much the landscape had changed since he lost it, but we resolved to maintain hope and start the search.

Given that he had almost an exact location of where he lost the ring I decided to take this as « ground zero » and start a spiral pattern around this point, with Indu suggesting possible motion of where the ring could have travelled given the wave action on the day that he was there.  After about an hour and extensively searching in the most likely area around the ring, I told Indu that I was not very hopeful that we could find his ring and that if he had any other suggestions I was up for trying them.  He suggested one or two other spots and then as I was informing him that I thought our chances were very slim I also added that I would search in the nooks of the rocks that were located laterally along the beach from where he lost his ring.  I got about 50′ away from ground zero and got a great signal which, after just simply moving a bit of sand off, turned out to be Indu’s ring… a beautiful 22k gold ring with yellow sapphire.

As I told Indu that I had some good news for him we were both stunned and thrilled that we were able to find it in a surprisingly distant location from where he lost it.  Mother nature has a way of rapidly moving things on the beach and this hunt was a great example.

Asbury Park engagement ring recovered

After doing a google search Desiree texted me asking for help in finding her lost engagement ring. I loaded my gear and headed right out to Asbury. Seems she went down for a morning swim and took off her wedding ring and engagement ring and put them in her pants pocket then into a wooden cubby type locker. When done swimming she reached in and pull the pants out and the rings fell out into the sand. She was able to find the wedding band but not the engagement ring. The area was small and in no time I was able to reunite her with her ring. A great happy ending to a nice morning.

Lost ring on Forest Lake golf course recovered!

Sentimental value cannot be measured. This unfortunate incident was filled with meaning: Ron had been golfing when he put on his father’s ring — a ring given to him by his mother a few years earlier. His father died young and the ring had been tucked away and nearly forgotten until his mother found it and offered it to Ron. He accepted immediately and asked his wife to have their wedding date, along with his parents’ wedding date, engraved inside.

While on the course he slipped the ring into his pocket, later reached for money, and didn’t notice his pocket had turned inside out. Realizing it was missing, Ron retraced his steps, rented a metal detector, and searched the area but found nothing. He called me, and we went to the most likely spot and searched until the ring was recovered.

I feel privileged to have been part of this deeply sentimental recovery. Ron, you are a kind soul — your gratitude meant everything. Thank you for choosing me to find your ring.

Engagement ring recovered at Monmouth Beach NJ

Got a text from Jocelyn asking if I was available to help find her engagement ring lost in the sand. I gave her a call and said if she can wait till I get there id be happy to come. Took the drive to Monmouth Beach and they were waiting for me at the ramp. While walking to where she was sitting she explained that while enjoying the day with the family she took off her rings and placed them in her beach bag. She went to get her rings out and only found 1 of the 2 she placed in. She figured that during the day of pulling things out of the bag the 1 ring must of came out into the sand. They tried to search with their hands and even went and bought an inexpensive metal detector but had no luck. After a web seach she found me. The first pass I took came up nothing, turned around moved over a bit and half way I got a stong signal and after a small scoop of sand I had her ring back for her. Everyone was so happy, even the people watching were clapping. A great ending to what could of been a bad day. So happy I could help.

Wedding Ring Found At Oval Beach, Saugatuck, MI

On the way home from another ring hunt I decided to try a second time to find this ring. 4 days prior to this I had searched for about 1 1/2 hours for this ring. Justin had been swimming about 10ft from the buoy in the picture and he said the red dot is where he thinks the ring was lost. I had searched about 25ft all around that buoy with no success.
Today I searched the area again and also closer to shore with no success. I had given up hope and wondered if another person had found the ring. I headed off to the left of the buoy to see what I could find and about 60ft left of the buoy I FOUND HIS RING. Justin has no idea how it got over there. I stopped at his house and presented him the prize. Married for only 9 months and I think he is out of the doghouse now.

Wedding Ring Found At North Beach, South Haven, MI

Received a text from Noe that he lost his wedding ring while standing in waist deep water yesterday afternoon. Too late to go then but I told him I would be there at 6:30AM the next day.
Noe and his wife Eve met me at the beach and showed me an area about 20ft wide where his ring should be. They were right on as I found the ring in my first pass thru that area. They are natives of Arizona but now living in the West Michigan area. They have been married for 4 years and now he has that special ring back on his finger. It was a little smoky from the Canadian fires but we managed to see thru the haze.
