West Dennis Beach Takes and Gives Back Mother’s Wedding Ring Set

While I was outside doing some needed yard work a Text Message was left on my phone.

“I am on the west Dennis beach and I just lost my ring. It was mom’s wedding/engagement ring. She passed away in April. We are on vacation and are supposed to head back tomorrow.”

I knew I had to go and find this ring, a ring her mother wore for 66 years, ASAP.

I was on the beach about 45 minutes after calling Kristen. At the beach the necessary information was obtained. My bad was in thinking the tied was on the rise, it was really on the way out. To add to my problem was the locations I was given. At first they were to the west of the chair on the beach and out, then it moved to the east of the chair and closer in. Had the tide was on the rise I would have to search further out to be at the point Kristen was when she lost the ring. That is the way it went for about two hours. John had to leave and take their dog home. Kristen stayed and told me she thought I should be more to the west but closer in…the search went on and the sunset told me I should think about coming back in the morning’s low tide.

Kristen was almost off the beach and I was going to be very close behind. That’s when I heard the sound I was searching for: the low sharp tone of gold. Yes, it was the diamond white gold ring I had been searching for. Even before leaving the ankle deep water (it was now low tide) I shouted out “Kristen”. In hopes I had found her ring she sprinted to me, saw the ring in my scoop. WOW, another grateful person. I love it when I can return an item before a person had to sleep on the tragedy overnight.

In the parking lot Kristen told me about the fun in the surf and on the sand of West Dennis Beach since her early childhood. Many of the memories of those years with her parents had brought her back to the very area of the beach we were on.

West Dennis Beach, MA – Gives Back Lost Silver Ring

  • from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, United States)

August 27, 2021:
Andrea lost her Wave, Sand and Sea ring while walking the shoreline. For six years the ring had brought Andrea many calming and wondrous thoughts of Cape Cod and its beaches. The loss had happened in the presence of her sister who had lost an earring a few years ago but had forgotten who and how to contact for help. She did called a mutual friend who contacted me. I called and set up a meet to search for the lost ring.

Both women marked the area that the ring was lost at the previous day. Seaweed made it near impossible to swing a detector’s coil, but I managed only to finish the area with out finding the ring. I expanded the search area and within another five minutes I had found the ring.

All that was left to do in the fading sunlight was to snap a few pictures, get a bit of information for the blog, and exchange a few stories. It was a perfect ending to a very hot day on Cape Cod, another “Beautiful Place To Be”.

Lost Wedding Band Found on West Dennis Beach, Cape Cod, MA

  • from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, United States)

Kathy F. e-mailed with a request for help in finding her husband’s wedding band. The specific location of where the ring had been lost was perfect. Unfortunately the weather, tide and sea state were not so perfect. As timing is an essential factor in searching the salt waters we had to try at the next low tide. Team member Jim W. and I met at the beach, looked at the conditions and almost gave up, but did not. Jim detected in his bathing suit and shoes, I forgot my shoes so I wore my fishing waders and could not get out as far or deep as Jim could. The seaweed was a challenge to work in as were the high, crashing waves. It took Jim about 20 minutes to find the ring at chest depth in the very rough water. Before our search started I had to ask a fisherman to move from where he was fishing so we could search for the ring with out getting « caught ». Needless to say he and his girlfriend were amazed that we found the ring. In the time we were in the water the fisherman had not caught his dinner. The best part of this story lies within the children’s hand made Thank You cards given to both Jim and myself and of course the Happy Ending with many Smiles will never be forgotten.
