Jonathan was enjoying a warm sunny day at New Smyrna Beach with his family and friends and as they packed up their things and were driving home he noticed that his white gold and platinum wedding ring was not on his finger. He thought back to when he last remembered having his ring and sometime during the day he recalled taking his ring off and either he « thought » he put it in his pocket or may have set it down on a towel…he was not exactly sure! Later he searched through his things and at one point he remembered throwing some items into the trash but for the life of him he could not recall exactly what happened. He found The Ring Finders online and gave me a call. So early the next morning we met at the beach and Jonathan showed me the exact area where he and his family had staked out their two canopy tents and he assured me that he spent most of his time sitting in the shade as he watched all the activity and commotion going on around him. So I began my grid search wide of the area thinking that his ring could have fallen anywhere in the general area. I dug up two small pieces of foil and then 5 minutes later I got a nice strong signal that I was sure had to be Jonathans lost ring. I called him over to watch as I slowly brushed the sand away and a small glimmer of gold revealed itself. Jonathan was thrilled to see his lost ring sitting there in the sand just waiting for him to pick it up and slip it back on his finger.

How I thank God for allowing me to be a help and blessing to Jonathan and the thrill never gets old when finding something that was lost and being able to reunite it again with it’s rightful owner!

Lost Wedding Ring found!

It all started with a missed call from Jack. He reached out to me on behalf of his wife, Aly, who had lost her wedding ring at the shoreline the previous evening. As a Ring Finder, every call is an opportunity to help restore something truly precious—and I was determined to help.

Jack provided me with detailed photos and described where he thought the ring had slipped off Aly’s finger. Based on his information, I planned to search at first light, when the tide and beach would be at their quietest.

At sunrise, I arrived at the beach, fired up my XP Deus 2 metal detector, and began to grid the sand systematically. After a while, I started to unearth several fishing weights—common clutter in beach hunting. Suddenly, my detector coil died. My heart sank for a moment, but I hustled back to my truck, hoping I had a spare. Luckily, I found an extra coil, swapped it out, and got back to work.

Returning to the search area, I continued gridding carefully. After a few more targets, I dug out another fishing weight. I rechecked the hole, and the detector sang once more. As I lifted my scoop, there it was—a beautiful ring gleaming in the morning sun!

There was no one else around on the beach, so I headed back to my truck, eager to call Jack with the good news. But wouldn’t you know it—my phone had died, too! I plugged it in to charge, and as soon as it powered on, I texted Jack to let him know the ring had been found.

Jack met me at the beach a little while later. I handed Aly’s beautiful wedding ring back to him—safe, sound, and sparkling.

Thank you, Jack and Aly, for allowing me to be a part of this special recovery. Returning lost items is always rewarding, but it’s even more meaningful when it’s something as precious as a wedding ring.

Episode 44, Saving Caden’s Texas A&M Ring, Galveston, Texas

Saving Caden’s Texas A&M Ring, Galveston, Texas
Texas A&M Class Ring Recovered from Galveston Waters – A Technical Dive by Houston Metal Detecting Services
Caden reached out to Houston Metal Detecting Services after losing his Texas A&M class ring at a friend’s family home in Galveston. While relaxing on a second-story dock overlooking the bay, the ring slipped from his hand and vanished into about 10 inches of water below.
What seemed like a shallow loss quickly turned into a technical challenge. The area beneath the dock was a zero-visibility environment—murky water, soft silt, and tight spaces between barnacle-covered pilings. Standard searching wasn’t going to cut it.
We arrived prepared with full underwater SCUBA gear and a custom-built grid system tailored for blind recoveries in tight and murky environments. With the grid in place, we conducted a methodical underwater search by feel and metal detector tone—sweeping slowly and thoroughly to avoid missing anything in the muck.
Roughly 40 minutes into the dive, we got a clean, solid signal. Reaching down into the soft sand, we located the ring—Caden’s Texas A&M class ring, buried but unharmed.
Seeing the relief and excitement on Caden’s face as we handed the ring back made every moment underwater worth it. It was more than just a ring—it was a piece of Aggie pride, and a memory now saved.

Training the Next Generation: Crime Scene Metal Detector Course in New Jersey

I recently had the opportunity to travel to New Jersey to teach a specialized Crime Scene Metal Detector Operations course through TRITECH Forensics, hosted by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.

The class brought together a dedicated group of professionals—investigators and crime scene technicians from both the prosecutor’s office and surrounding law enforcement agencies. Their shared mission: to sharpen their skills and expand their capabilities in metal detector use at crime scenes.

Over the course of the training, we focused heavily on the practical application of metal detectors for evidence recovery, with a strong emphasis on locating spent shell casings—an often critical piece of evidence in shooting investigations.

From understanding search patterns and detector tones to mastering real-world recovery techniques, participants engaged hands-on in exercises designed to simulate crime scene conditions. By the end of the course, they not only gained new technical skills but also a deeper appreciation for the role metal detecting can play in building stronger, evidence-based cases.

It was an honor to work alongside such motivated professionals and to contribute to the evolving standards of crime scene investigations.

Lost Wedding Ring Recovered – Houston Metal Detecting Services
Rishi reached out to Houston Metal Detecting Services with hope and a little doubt. Several months earlier, his wife had lost her cherished wedding ring in a patch of grass at her parents’ home. They had searched tirelessly at the time, but the ring seemed to have vanished.
This wasn’t just any ring—it was the one that had been blessed during their wedding ceremony, a deeply meaningful symbol of their union and faith. The loss weighed heavily on them both.
We made arrangements and headed to the property. After listening to Rishi’s account of the day it was lost and walking the area where they believed it might have fallen, we began the search.
Despite the time that had passed and the thick grass that had grown since, it didn’t take long to get a solid signal. The lost ring was just a few inches below the surface, buried in the soil, still as beautiful and meaningful as ever.
When we handed the ring back to Rishi, the relief and joy on his face said it all. It wasn’t just about the ring—it was about restoring something priceless to their story.

Lost Ring Recovered in Waimānalo!

I recently called Joe and while in conversation Joe let me know about a lost ring that’s in the water at Waimānalo Beach. Joe had already searched the beach area—combing through the beach and wet sand—but didn’t go out into the surf as it was like a washer machine and would of made it impossible to search in the water. Joe asked if I would give it a shot, and I gladly accepted.

After gathering all the details and adjusting my work schedule, I made the trip over the mountains to beautiful Waimānalo. Once there, I located the general area where Gabby believed the ring had been lost. I powered up my XP Deus II and started grid searching the area.

After multiple passes and a solid effort against the choppy surf, I began to think the ring might not be where she initially suspected. I pushed into deeper waters, hoping for better luck. Soon enough, I picked up a signal and dug—only to pull up a pull tab. Not giving up, I scanned the hole again and got another tone. I dug once more, and this time, sitting inside my extreme scoop was a stunning diamond ring!

Excited, I contacted Gabby right away. She was thrilled and verified the ring—it was hers! Later that evening, we met up at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, where I returned the ring. There were big smiles, relief, and a lot of joy.

It’s always an honor to help recover something so precious. Thank you, Gabby and Joe, for trusting me to help bring it back home.

Wedding Ring Lost in Muddy Backyard – Recovered in Katy, Texas by Houston Metal Detecting Services

Wedding Ring Lost in Muddy Backyard – Recovered in Katy, Texas by Houston Metal Detecting Services
Raymond from Katy, Texas, gave us a call with a familiar story—but one that never loses its meaning. While washing his dogs in the backyard of his home, things got a little messy. Between the water, the mud, and the wrestling with two energetic pups, Raymond noticed later that his wedding ring had vanished.
He searched the yard himself, hoping it had simply fallen nearby, but the semi-muddy conditions made it nearly impossible to see anything. That’s when he reached out to Houston Metal Detecting Services.
We arrived at his home ready to help. After walking through the events of the day with Raymond, we focused our search on the most active areas—near the hose, around the wash buckets, and the muddy patches where the dogs had been playing.
Within minutes of sweeping the yard with our equipment, we picked up a strong signal just under the surface. A quick dig later, and there it was—Raymond’s wedding ring, caked in a bit of mud but otherwise in perfect shape.
The look on Raymond’s face said it all—relief, gratitude, and a sense of restoration.
Another ring reunited. Another story saved.

Episode 43, Saving David’s Texas A&M Class Ring

  • from Sugar Land (Texas, United States)
It was a crisp January morning when I met David at a duck hunting lease in Pattison, Texas. David, a proud member of Texas A&M’s Class of 2025, had lost his cherished Aggie ring while on a weekend duck hunt with friends. The ring had been loose on his finger for some time, and despite his best efforts to keep it secure, it now lay somewhere beneath two feet of water in a muddy rice field.
David explained that the mishap occurred just after sunrise while deploying decoys in preparation for the hunt. Knowing the ring was loose, he had placed it in his pocket for safekeeping. However, later in the morning, he reached for his phone in the same pocket, and the ring slipped out, disappearing into the murky water.
When I arrived, David greeted me with a mix of optimism and concern. “I’ve narrowed it down to about a 20 by 20 area,” he said, pointing toward the flooded field. His friends had marked the spot with a reed, which proved to be a wise decision. I commended him for thinking ahead marking the location of a lost item in water is critical to any successful recovery.
We grabbed my gear and made the short trek across the field to the hunting blind. The water was cold, and the mud beneath our feet reminded me why patience and determination were key in recoveries like this. David stood near the reed marker, watching intently as I began the search.
Sweeping the detector slowly and methodically, I worked through the grid David had indicated. Within moments, I got a strong signal. Carefully, I shoveled up the target with my XTREME Scoop, and through the mud and grass in the scoop, I could see David’s Aggie ring.
The relief and joy on David’s face said it all. “I can’t thank you enough,” he said. “This ring means everything to me.”
This recovery was a reminder of the importance of acting quickly when something valuable is lost, especially in water. Marking the spot, as David had done, significantly increases the chances of success. He would be heading back to school with his class ring—and a great story to tell.

Kendall was attending a horse riding show as a participant in Marion County Florida when in her rush to comb out her horse’s tail she lost a very precious ring that her loving father had given her when she was 16 years old. She actually felt her ring slip off but it landed in the sawdust covered horse stall and it immediately disappeared. But she was in a hurry and did not want to be late for her showing and thought that when she was finished she would find her lost ring. After her ride she returned to the stall and began looking through the saw dust and horse manure but for all her efforts she was unable to find her lost gold ring! She posted her dilemma on Facebook and someone sent her my name and said « Call Mike…he will help you! ». So later that day I met Kendall and was able to find her lost ring which was mixed in quite well with all the sawdust and horse chips.

Thank you Kendall for calling and trusting me to find your precious lost ring…it truly was my honor and privilege!
