Lady’s White Gold Wedding Band Lost at Sunset Beach NC, Found and Returned

I was about half way home from an unsuccessful 6 hour search when I checked my email and found one from Kyle. In her email she stated, “Hi, I saw your name on the ring finder website. We lost a wedding band at Sunset beach today. I can point you to almost exactly where we were sitting. (Landmarks) we lost it at low tide. I went back at high tide and the water was right up to where we were sitting. Please let me know if you are available and what your cost is.” The timing was perfect because I was just coming up to the turnoff for Sunset beach. In her email she had also included her phone number, so I gave her a call. I confirmed she hadn’t lost it in the ocean, but in the dry sand, and I her I could meet her in 15 minutes. She agreed to meet, and gave me the beach access street number, but said it’d take her about 20 minutes.

I met Kyle, her sister Jen, and a young man as we were walking across the access boardwalk out to the beach. Kyle explained how she lost it, and then we just chit chatted on the long walk out. Kyle said that she and Jen have always wanted to get a metal detector and find treasure. When we got to the beach, it was pitch black. There are no hotels or resorts to light up the beach, and with overcast skies there was no stars or moon. We turned right when we got on the beach and kept walking; I started to worry a little thinking Kyle may not be able to find their spot. After a couple hundred yards or so, Kyle stopped and said we were right here in front of this mound. I turned on the Equinox 800, tested a duplicate ring Kyle had, which rang up as a 12 on the VDI. Took 2 steps and got a 13/14 on the VDI, which I thought would be a pull tab with those numbers. As I dug the target, I even commented to Kyle “I think this is a pull tab.” When I shook the sand out of the scoop and looked, I saw her white gold wedding band and said “or maybe not” as I held it up for her to see. She and her sister were a little surprised with how fast it was found. I told her the credit was all hers for putting me in exactly the right spot. I then let Kyle and Jen use my machine and run the coil over her ring so they’d get an idea of how to detect, if they were to get a machine.

Gold Bracelet Recovered from Ice Plant

Alex was throwing a football when his gold bracelet came off his wrist and went flying into the ice  plant at the beach. The only problem was he didn’t see where it went.

When I arrived there was a guy with a rake and Alex had a cheap metal detector that the lifeguards let him borrow. I detected the sand around the area with no luck and then started to search the ice plant.

The area was rather large but after a while as I was swinging my detector I spotted the gold chain right before my detector went over it. It was all clumped together in a small pile.

Alex was super excited to get his bracelet back.

How to find a Lost Ring at Jericho Beach…

I’m having a good sleep and the phone started vibrating at 4:15 AM I checked it and saw a local number, I knew this would be a 911 call for a Lost Ring. The young man asked if I was the guy who finds lost rings, I said yes. He apologize for calling so early and explained that he’s been on the beach for four hours looking for his lost ring. He went on to tell me that he was throwing a stick and the ring came off, he could not find it with the help of his wife and others on the beach at around 11 PM. He took his wife back home and came back to the beach and started searching with a flashlight. Around 3:30 AM he went home and got onto the Internet and found TheRingFinders. After discussing the search for a few minutes a got dressed and jumped in my car and headed straight out to Jericho Beach in Vancouver. Normally this drive would take me over 45 minutes due to traffic but this morning it only took 30 minutes.

We met at the beach and the young man took me to the area where he remembered sitting, however, he would be off by about 20 yards. After close to an hour and 30 minutes a lot of nails, pull tabs, and bottle caps, I finally stumbled onto his ring, he was one happy camper!!! The reason it took so long was because he felt it was in a different area which made me focus harder in that area knowing when I did not find it there I had to expand my grid search because most people can’t put you in the exact spot even though they think it is. The young man didn’t want to be on my video and didn’t want to picture for the book of smiles, that is his choice and I have to honor that, so you’ll see a picture of me with my tired smile and the small platinum ring I found for this young man.

 

After this recovery, I headed out to search for a water main that was buried under 1 foot of earth, that search took me one minute to find.

Metal Detector finds ring lost in Lake Okanagan

Brittany and family where playing ball in the water when she saw her rose gold Diamond ring fly off her finger in 4 feet of water, her husband called me for assistance, I responded the first thing the next morning. Knowing the approximate location is always a big help, and withing 10 minutes Brittany was delighted to have the ring back on her finger, now she can get married with her official engagement ring.

Lost Gold Hawaiian Ring at Hanohano Hale Beach…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a text Saturday from Nicole who lives on Oahu and lost her Hawaiian Heritage ring at Hanohano Hale Beach in Punaluu. While swimming with some friends at the beach as she exited the water a rather large wave crashed into her near the shoreline and her ring came off. She reached for the ring but it disappeared in the surf. She fruitlessly searched for awhile and finally giving up as the waves were pounding the shore. We talked on the phone as I reviewed the surf report and agreed Thursday would be the best day to hunt as the tide would be low in the morning and the surf would be much less then when she lost the ring. I arrived Thursday morning and waited for Nicole to arrive and show me where the ring came off. Thankfully, this area has a barrier reef before the shoreline so I expected the ring to be very near where it was dropped. I started my grid search in about waist deep water and worked towards shore. I noticed a few Portuguese Man-O-Wars in the sand so I was keeping my guard up so not to entangle myself in any tentacles in the water. I completed the search area and didn’t find Nicole’s sentimental ring. We discussed some other details and I decided to do a grid perpendicular to the shoreline. On the third leg I got a screaming target on my Excalibur and after two deep scoops there was Nicole’s ring in the scoop. I yelled ashore to her that I got it and she met me on the water’s edge to look in the scoop. I saw a tremendous smile come over her face and I knew it was the one. Besides a generous reward Nicole gave me a wonderful decanter of Kohana Rum Barrel Aged Hawaiian Honey which I will put in my coffee each morning until its gone. What a great way to start my day and lift our spirits during this pandemic. Aloha to Nicole!

The Sand Versus Wedding Band

Brennon called me and asked if I could help find his wife Casssie’s wedding band. Cassie took off her engagement ring and wedding band and placed them on her sweater when she went into the water at the beach.

It wasn’t until they got home she realized she lost her rings. They headed back to the beach and with the help of others they found the engagement ring but couldn’t find the wedding band.

When I arrived it only took me a few minutes and I found Cassies ring. They were very thankful for the ring finder service.

August 13, 2020: A couple of days ago, Eddie was playing in the water with his children. When he realized his ring was missing, he searched as well as possible. He soon realized he needed a waterproof metal detector. Eddie called the Woodbridge SCUBA Dive Shop to see if someone could conduct a search. Since no one was available to immediately help, my friends at Woodbridge SCUBA referred me to Eddie.

We were supposed to meet at 0800, but we were both 15 minutes early. It was raining very hard the whole time and I was watching for approaching lightning. After Eddie showed me the potential areas the ring could have fallen off, I started the search. Something made me go just a little further out for my first leg of the pattern. Within a few minutes, I heard that lovely tone of gold and recovered Eddie’s wedding band. By this time Eddie’s wife had arrived and they were both there when I handed over the ring. It was then that they told me that tomorrow was their anniversary!! We were all soaking wet, but full of warm feelings.  I love this hobby!!!!

Disney Earring Lost at Watch Hill Beach, Westerly RI… Found!

Surf lessons turned ugly when an 8-year-old lost her Disney earring. Jeff was teaching his daughter how to surf on a sunny evening at Watch Hill Beach just outside the Ocean House. Unknown to Jeff, the daughter’s friend must have placed an earring on the top of the surfboard near a large piece of driftwood. By the time Jeff grabbed the board, it was already too late. The child’s earring was lost in the sand. Losing a Disney earring can quickly suck the fun out of any activity. I know this because this is the second time I have found a lost Mickey Mouse earring from “The Happiest Place On Earth,” and the owners are always heartbroken when the loss happens.

Jeff approached me the lost earring story as I was finishing up an engagement ring search. Luckily Jeff had the other earring, so I was able to run a test and identify the metal detector tone of the lost earring. Once I was familiar with the sound, I started to search. The pressure was on as the 8-year-old children watched my every move. Searching around a large piece of driftwood where the surfers hang out, I held the lost Disney earring within the first couple of minutes of searching. The group of onlookers was in shock. They felt the likelihood of finding such a small lost item in the sand was low, which made the surprise so special.

“An 8-year-old placed an earring on my surfboard without telling me, and I moved my surfboard. Fortunately, Keith was in the area and volunteered his services to help the child that lost the earring. The greatest joy when it was found was by me since I am the one that dragged my daughter’s friend to the beach, and I felt responsible for the lost earring. We had given up when Keith came by and tracked it down in about 5 minutes. A happy ending to a stressful surf session” – Jeff

***  Maria found my contact information on the internet a day after her white gold and diamond wedding ring slipped off her finger into the surf. She had taken her young son for his first time at the ocean. While holding him in shin deep water her ring slowly came off her finger. She couldn’t let go of her son to retrieve the ring as the next wave washed the ring out of sight.

The loss occurred at a high tide but this SoCal beach is one place that can pull a ring down into a deep trough of cobble stones. I made arrangements to meet Maria just a little after noon which is the best low tide.

When I arrived Maria her mother and sisters were all at the site. She had good landmarks that helped make this a successful search. I began my grid search approximately 20 feet below where she dropped the ring. Working up the slope to where she said the loss happened. I got the perfect white gold signal exactly where she said it dropped. The ring had not moved from that spot all night with two high tides. 

The whole family was excited as were several of the beach goers that witnessed the recovery. This never gets old for me, it’s great to see the joy and feel the gratitude from the  people I’m able to help.

Chris lost his platinum wedding band trying to catch a ball in ankle-deep water today.   I received a call from fellow Ringfinder Jeff Laag who gave me Anouska’s phone number so I could get the details for the recovery.  I started a search of the wet sand shortly after I arrived, and the ring was found on the slope.  It was Chris’ and his family’s first day of vacation in Ocean City, New Jersey-it can now be a relaxing one!
