Paul was doing some gardening in his Long Beach backyard when his ring vanished into a large bush.
When I arrived he showed the rather large bush so I used my detector to sweep the periphery of the bush and didn’t get any signals, so I used my pin-pointer to get inside and underneath but still there was no signal.
I decided to check the succulents in the front border area and that is where I found Paul’s ring.

On Oct 26th, 2025, and just after 1 pm, I received a text message saying, “Hi Jim! I think I may have lost a set of rings on Ocean Isle beach this weekend. Any chance you’re available to attempt to recover them?” I called the number attached to the text and spoke with Allison. I got a few more details, including the address where she was staying. I told her I was on my way with my ETA. About halfway there, I received a text from her saying, “We found 1!!!” I replied saying, “OK, how many more?” She replied two! A diamond band and my engagement ring. But they would all be in the same area! I responded, “OK, I’m on my way. If you would be real careful looking for them, because you could move or bury them.” She agreed and they stopped looking.
When I arrived, I met Allison at the beach access, and she walked me down to the suspected area. I also met a number of ladies that were with Allison, I guess they were on a lady’s mini vacation. Allison showed me the small, maybe 10×5 foot area and also told me there were 4 rings. Here Platinum wedding band, Platinum engagement ring, and 2 spacer rings. As I turned on my machine, I looked at her and said, “What do you think, less than 5 minutes?” She looked at me thinking I was nuts and gave a little laugh. I took about 2 steps and hit a strong signal, dug a shallow scoop of sand, shook the sand out of the scoop and had her wedding band. She was behind me, as I took it out of the scoop and reached around to hand it to her. She was shocked. Another step and I hit 2 separate signals and scooped out one of the spacer rings and her engagement ring. She was thrilled. She said she didn’t care about the other spacer ring; it was inexpensive and had no sentimental value to it. I continued looking anyway, as I hate to leave a ring in the sand. After no luck, we called it a success and I left. I had intentions of going back after I came home and had some dinner. I went back and covered the entire area including the walk back and forth from the beach access to where they were set up and still couldn’t find it.

This past Saturday, I got a call from a young man in distress. His wife had been out in the backyard, tossing a ball to their playful Weimaraner, when she suddenly realized both her rings were missing.
My wife decided to come along with me, and before we set out, we said a short prayer that we’d be able to find them. By the time we arrived, the couple had already been searching frantically. They had managed to locate the engagement ring on a backyard trampoline, but the wedding ring was still missing.
When I fired up my Minelab Manticore, I immediately realized the yard was full of targets—signals coming from all directions. I started by scanning the area where the first ring had landed, methodically expanding my search each time.
As daylight began to fade, I finally got a strong, promising signal. I looked down—and there it was: the beautiful wedding ring, nestled in the grass, far from where anyone expected it to be.
I called the young man over and pointed to the ring’s resting place. His face lit up with pure joy! My wife held the ring for a quick picture before we returned it to its rightful owner.

Third Time’s A Charm……
….Kate had just finished a 1-mile bike ride with the children and when she got home her pendant and chain were missing. Their destination was a community center building where they parked the bicycles and hung out in a small park area under some trees.
1st search with the family covered the route from home to community center building but yielded nothing.
2nd search included 2 teams of people working towards each other from the house to community center and yielded some results when the chain the pendant was on was found by a planter near where they stopped under the trees at the community center building. A week later Kate called me with what had transpired but had to go out of town on business and turned the case over to her husband Dan.
3rd search included me, Dan and the children. I thought it best to start metal detecting in the area under the trees at the community center building. Luckily no one had raked up the fallen leaves yet. Grid searching a tight pattern revealed no signals on the metal detector and searching the planters revealed nothing….so I thought…. where could this pendant be? I took a break and went to the restroom, when I came back out as I was opening the door I noticed what looked like a paper clip sticking up from the deep grooved, thick rubber floor mat. Taking a closer look, I reached down thru the deep grooves in the mat and there was Kate’s pendant! Dan had been just a few feet away when I held it up for him to see. He came running over and was as baffled as I was as to how the pendant got there. He called Kate who was totally thrilled and couldn’t believe it was found but said she didn’t go inside the building because it was closed when they were there. We both did another double take at the small 1/4″ long pendant and pondered in silence to take in all the events that transpired. The most important thing was that the pendant was found and being the third time trying was definitely a charm for Dan and Kate.

Tom and Barb have been married for 55 years. When they returned inside after working together on an outdoor project, Tom noticed his gold wedding ring was missing. They searched and searched but could not find it. Tom turned to the internet and eventually came across me. Long story short, after I had searched their property and didn’t find it, I expanded my area to include some of the neighbors close by. Yes, nestled in the river rock under some plants was his ring. As Larry was mowing the grass for the last time this year he was emptying the bag into some compost piles. Hours later he noticed his ring missing. Back at work the next day his wife Cindy texted me the information on the disappearance. Setting up my MXT metal detector I told her this detector will bring lawn and order back to the yard. Scanning the detector coil thru the compost piles I got a nice solid signal. Reaching thru the pile with my pin-pointer I got a location and pulled out Larry’s ring! Handing it to Cindy I held my detector coil up to the brim of my hat to say goodbye and she said thanks for the cutting-edge service…. I said, my pleasure, it’s been a lawn time coming.

I was contacted by Matt to see if I could help him locate his lost tungsten and gold wedding band. Matt said he had lost it in his yard cleaning up leaves. This is a common occurrence this time of year. I told Matt I would come out and we agreed on a day and time. Later I would find out that Matt lived three and a half hours away from the property to be search. It added a little bit of pressure as this was a significant time investment on his part.
I met Matt at the property and got the scoop on what happened. Matt was full of good news, the ring was mostly black, it could have been in a variety of places from in the yard to the wooded areas behind his house, he had cut the grass at some point and there was a large area in the woods where he had actually spread the leaves out by hand rather than dump them and leave them in big piles. He was really upset by the loss as he had only been married a short time before this happened. Matt also informed me he had bought a metal detector and invested significant time in trying to locate the ring using the detector. Unlike many people I have to give Matt credit, he invested in an Garrett AT Pro, the same detector I usually use. He had also spent some time doing research and had some knowledge in how to use it.
I looked around and taking all of the information into account was beginning to believe I was in for a VERY LONG day. I asked Matt where he thought it might be and he put me onto a few places he had dumped stuff in the woods behind the house. I started to look getting some directions from Matt – you are up too far, over this way some, yeah that is where I was. Then Matt went down the hill to look on his own. After about 10-15 minutes I was working my way down the path to search another patch of woods and I got a sweet sound. I did not see anything though. I got out my pin pointer and rooted around the side of a tree branch that was across the path. BAM! I moved some of the leave pieces and dust out of the way and there was the ring tight up against the branch. I felt a huge sense of relief. Matt had cleared a portion of this area from the leaves but the dust and pieces that he left behind were just enough to keep it hidden from sight.
I called Matt up from where he was searching. Without telling him that I found his ring I placed it on the ground and told him when you find your ring this is what it will sounds like. Matt started to run his detector over the spot…then it hit him…it was HIS ring. He picked it up and was overjoyed and in disbelief that I found it both where I did and so quickly. I was amazed as well, a little devine intervention if you ask me, St. Anthony strikes again.

I was contacted by Kai to inquire if I could find his ring after it was lost during an event at the university. He said he had lost it in a grassy area between some of the buildings the night before.
I arrived and looked at the area to be searched. Pretty standard grassy area and Kai was certain it was in a specific spot. I started to seach and within 10 minutes I was able to locate the ring in the grass. Kai was very happy to get his ring back and as always it was great to meeet another kind and generous client and recover his special keepsake!
Sunday, I got a call from Greg. He had been fishing in his backyard when he the part to his reel that holds on the spool. I asked him if he knew the material and he said he thought it was brass. I said no problem, I’m sure I can find it.
I headed over to Greg’s house on Monday afternoon. We went to the scene in the backyard which had a good size lake. My first question was, “do you think it could be in the water?” He replied no and explained that the pole was tangled, and he was trying to get it out. He dropped the pole and he thought it fell off then. He also explained that he had spent a lot of time searching.
I fired up the Minelab Manticore to begin the search. I found a zinc bolt, some gum foil and then…a great hit. Using the pinpointer I went under lots of grass and into the sand and found the escaped part! Not a piece of jewelry but very valuable to this young man. Greg was happy and full of metal detecting questions. I think he’s hooked on the hobby!

There comes a time in every man’s life when the ones he loves grow old and pass away. For Glenn, his grandfather was that person and he had passed away a few years ago. As Glenns Aunt was going through Glenn’s grandpa’s things, she came across his wedding ring and knew that Glenn would cherish it and wear it daily. On Monday Glenn had just received this ring as a gift from his aunt and was wearing it proudly as he worked with his father on their cattle ranch. Helping his dad with chores on Monday, took Glenn all around the pasture and by the hay bales. There were gates to open, and troughs to fill. The netting on the hay bale had to be wrapped up and the bales had to be loaded onto the tractor. As the tasks got completed, Glenn ducked behind a stack of pallets to get out of the frigid north wind. He could feel the blood slowing down in his ice-cold fingers but smiled a little as he looked at his grandpa’s ring. As Glenn made his way out from behind the pallets the last of the hay bales were loaded and dropped off. Glenn was slowly losing feeling in his hands as he felt another feeling, that new ring he was wearing was gone. The panic took over the cold feeling, and he walked right back to the last place he was standing. There at the gate he recalled he had seen the ring. The search began and ended as the nighttime crept in with a frigid black blanket. The next day Glenns dad took to the internet to find a metal detector for Glenn. After scrolling down the pages looking at all the different web sites that popped up, he saw my face and profile on the internet. While at work, I got a call from Glenn, we made small talk about his circumstance and made plans for me to come out that afternoon. The family dogs greeted me as I got out of my car. The smell of hay and bovine wafted my way as I got my gear out of the back of my car. As all of my searches begin, I went over the events that Glenn thought lead to him losing his ring. As we walked around the outside of the pasture, I knew his ring wasn’t going to be found, the ground I was searching over was paved with three-inch rock. A large gold ring would sit proudly on top of all that stone. Nevertheless, I did my due diligence to search the rock covered area. The odd pieces of metal showed up under my coil now and again. Glenns dad was quick to point out the places I hadn’t searched, which led us to walking into the pasture. There was a hill that Glenns dad had placed a bale of hay, in fact it was the first bale of hay Glenn helped his dad uncover. As the three black angus cows moved away from the half-eaten bale, I gently swung my detector around. Moving from the top of the pile down I got a solid signal on the edge of the bale. The number 16 showed up on my screen, and I asked the question « What is that? », to which Glenn’s dad said, « there better not be any metal up here ». However, this was a bit of metal, and as I pinpointed and pulled back the hay, a large gold ring popped out of the pile. The yeehaw and pats on the backs accompanied the smile and laugher as the two happy cowboys stood on top of the huge pile of manure.
