Family Heirloom Recovered After More Than Two Years! 💍❤️
I recently received a call from Emily in Richmond, Texas, about a ring that had been missing for over two years.
This wasn’t just any ring—it had belonged to her great-grandmother and had been passed down through her family. Emily believed she had accidentally dropped it in the narrow strip of grass near the street in front of her home. She searched for hours when it happened but eventually accepted that the cherished heirloom was gone forever.
Then, more than two years later, she came across a story about someone recovering a lost ring with the help of a professional metal detectorist.
« I didn’t even know a service like this existed, » she told me.
The following day, I stopped by her home in Richmond, and after she showed me the area where she believed the ring had been lost, the search began.
Believe it or not, the second target of the search was Emily’s great-grandmother’s ring!
The look on her face was priceless. She couldn’t believe the ring had survived more than two years outdoors—or that it had actually been found. Moments like these are exactly why I love what I do.
If you’ve lost a wedding ring, class ring, family heirloom, or other treasured item, don’t assume it’s gone forever. I’ve recovered items that have been missing for days, months, and even years.

✨ Two Gold Earrings Recovered in Houston’s Fine Arts District! ✨

Two Gold Earrings Recovered in Houston’s Fine Arts District! ✨
Mary contacted Houston Metal Detecting Services after her daughter accidentally lost two gold earrings while walking from the swimming pool back to their home in Houston’s Fine Arts District.
After swimming, her daughter wrapped her wet clothing and jewelry in a towel and headed to the house. Once she reached the patio, she realized both gold earrings—and possibly a delicate gold necklace—were missing.
The family searched the property several times and even borrowed a metal detector, but the jewelry remained lost.
That’s when they found Houston Metal Detecting Services and The Ring Finders and asked for professional help.
Although the property featured a large backyard, the likely search area was a narrow path between the pool and the back patio. Using specialized metal detecting equipment and a systematic search pattern, I carefully worked the route.
Within a short time, both gold earrings were located hidden in the grass along the pathway. While the necklace was not located, recovering both earrings made the search a tremendous success and brought a great deal of relief to the family.
It’s always rewarding to return treasured jewelry to its owners—especially when they thought it was gone forever.
If you’ve lost jewelry in your yard, at a park, on the beach, or even underwater, don’t give up. Houston Metal Detecting Services provides professional recovery services throughout Houston, Sugar Land, and Southeast Texas.

Texas A&M Class Ring Recovered from Murky Tiki Island Waters

Texas A&M Class Ring Recovered from Murky Tiki Island Waters
Today, Houston Metal Detecting Services successfully reunited a 1985 Texas A&M class ring with its rightful owner—Tim, a Colorado resident—after it spent the last several months buried beneath the murky waters of a residential canal on Tiki Island.
Back in March, Tim was visiting friends on Tiki Island when the unexpected happened. While standing on the second-story deck of the home, tossing chips to a flock of eager seagulls, Tim said he felt his ring slip off his finger mid-throw. He watched in disbelief as it arced through the air and disappeared into the water, about 25 feet out from the balcony into the canal below.
Despite making several attempts to retrieve it himself over the following days, diving into the canal’s zero-visibility water, Tim quickly learned that the bottom was a thick, mucky mess—making the task next to impossible.
Months passed. Unsure whether recovery was even feasible, Tim contacted a local metal detecting club in the Galveston area, who referred him to Houston Metal Detecting Services, recognizing the technical difficulty of such a recovery: deep open water, zero visibility, and a silty bottom.
Tim and I spoke about the challenges, and he mentioned he was planning another visit to his friends’ home on Tiki Island. We agreed to meet that weekend to evaluate the area. A bottom probe revealed a 2–5 inch layer of soft muck resting atop a firmer base—making the ring potentially recoverable with the right equipment and precision technique.
With a plan in place, the actual search took place today. After carefully marking the suspected drop zone, suiting up, and working methodically through the silted bottom, the unmistakable ping of the detector confirmed what we were hoping for: Tim’s class ring was still there.
The ring was successfully recovered and, as the attached photos show, Tim is once again the proud owner of his cherished 1985 Texas A&M ring—and he’ll be taking it back home to Colorado as a symbol of both Aggie pride and persistence.
Another recovery complete. Another story added to the adventure.
