Gold Ring for Proposal Lost at Hermosa Beach, CA…Found and Joyfully Returned.

I had just gotten home from the ring return for the twin sisters last night, and was waiting for my wife to come home with dinner, when I received a call from Jessie regarding a ring loss at the beach. He had a relative from back East visiting, and there was a marriage proposal out on the sand at the beach. Well Mark was proposing to Taylor with Taylor’s mother’s ring set, when sometime during the celebratory act, part of the set was dropped in the sand. They searched for it, but were unable to locate it. Jessie found me on the internet, and called. I let him know that as soon as my wife got back, I would woof my food down, and go immediately to the beach to do a search.

When I got there Jessie, Mark and Taylor met me and took me to the area they believed the loss to have occurred. Jessie had drawn a square line outlining the area they believed the ring to be. I began my search, and on the second pass I got the one only signal. I scooped, and there was the glint of gold in the scoop from the high intensity light coming from the headlight I had on. I reached in and pulled out the ring and gave it to Taylor. Needless to say, there was much rejoicing out on the beach. Taylor was able to reunite the ring with its partner, and their marriage proposal ended on a very happy note, smiles all around!

White Gold and Diamond Ring Lost at Venice Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

Last Friday morning I woke and checked my email, and found that Yessi had emailed me at 1:40 AM in desperation regarding a ring her sister had lost at the beach the night before. After I emailed her back, Celene her sister called, and I told her I would perform the search the same day even though we were having our second heaviest rainstorm of the year (good to have waterproof machines). It was about 10:00 PM the previous night when Celene removed her ring to fix her hair. She did this because the ring was very thin, her hair would catch on it, and become a nuisance. They were on one of the lifeguard towers when during the fixing of her hair she dropped the ring. She heard it hit the floor of the tower, but when they looked for it, it had disappeared. They then thought it might have slipped between the boards of the floor into the sand below. They looked there under and around the tower for the ring, but it was gone. Yessi would not let this go because she knew this was special to her sister. The ring had been given to her by her parents 14 years prior when she was a young teenager, and she wore it every day since.

When I got to the site the rain was coming down pretty good, so I donned my rain gear, got my machine, and went to the tower to search. I knew this would be a good time because I figured there would be no one out detecting to maybe have found it, and I knew also that the County beach sifters would not have been used on the beach with the wet sand. I searched in the area where I thought she might have been standing (I had to guess because Celene was not able to be there to show me), and widened my search out to where I thought the ring could have possibly bounced to, with no luck. I then began to search behind the tower and found a bottle cap. I removed the bottle cap, scanned again, got a nice foil sound in the headphones, and scooped up a very thin diamond ring. I called back to let Celene know that I found it, and we arranged to meet at a park on Sunday afternoon because of her work schedule. When she got to the park her sister was with her, which was great. It was even more unique to find that they were twins, a special bond for sure. What a great weekend that became. More smiles made!

Lost White Gold and Diamond Ring In House Found In Couch With Dowsing Rod in Livonia Michigan

What’s In YOUR Couch?

This pictured couple lost one of the 3 white gold rings from the wife’s wedding set yesterday. I was able to meet them today and since the metal detector doesn’t work well in house searches, I turned to my dowsing techniques to help. I use dowsing almost on every search in some form or fashion just to get a feel for the situation and if I need to incorporate it to make the find. Dowsing can be used to search for pretty much whatever you are looking for, missing persons, pets, treasure, ect. So she set the rings on the arm of the couch and he sat down and 2 went flying, they found the 2 but the 3rd went into the floor air duct, so they thought. I asked about any children and pets that may have moved off with the ring and they said no the baby daughter was in bed when it happened. I felt around the upper part of the arm and discovered 2 small holes in the material that led down into the hollow part of the arm, that convinced me that the ring could have worked it’s way downward. I made a sweep with the dowsing rod from 2 directions focusing on the ring and it locked on the couch arm, so we rotated the couch front and back and heard something rolling around on the inside wood portions of the arm.
We had to remove the staples and material from the arm to get a better look and when we opened it up we first got a small toy magnet, discouraged, I insisted that the ring was there. We cut open more space to get our hands in further and shining the flashlight into the opening I saw the diamonds shining back at me! The ring was wedged into the corner bottom of the arm! We all laughed and said now they can tell people they found gold and diamonds in their couch cushions! lol

Custom 22K and Sapphire Ring Lost in Park in Torrance, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

At about 8:00 PM last night I received a call from Sri who had lost his ring while throwing a ball to his daughter earlier in the evening. This ring had been custom made for him in India. He had been back and forth to the park 3 times looking for it since 5:30 PM without any luck. Sri’s wife found my information on The Ring Finders web site, and he called. I told him the because it happened at a public park, that I would come immediately to do the search, so as to not allow for anything to cause the search to become more difficult or impossible, such as someone finding the next morning while on a walk, or the city mowing the grass.

When I got there Sri and his friend met me and took me to the spot where he was standing when he threw the ball. We discussed the trajectory and force with which the ball was thrown, and then I began my search where I thought was the most likely spot to start. As I was making my first pass with my detector and high intensity head lamp, Sri’s friend was walking with me to my left. I would look left and right, and the light would cover the ground. I was about half way through the first pass, when the light from my head lamp caused a glint that caught Sri’s friend’s attention, and when he reached down, he came up with the missing ring. Needless to say, there was a lot of celebrating last night. Sometimes it takes an outside observer to think outside of the box, and maybe look where you don’t think the lost item might be, and I think that is what happened last night. I wasn’t emotionally involved, which allowed me to move the search area to one that may not have been covered, and enabled us as a team to make the recovery. A great night indeed!

Wedding Ring Lost in Backyard in San Pedro, CA…Found and Joyously Returned.

I received a call late this morning from Steve who had lost his wedding ring while gardening in his backyard. He had been getting his roses ready for the upcoming spring growing season mulching the area around each of his plants. It had been a cold day, and he had felt the ring a bit loose on his finger, but did not think much about it until later when after he had mulched all of his plants, he noticed it was gone. He looked all through the garden with no luck, and then found me on The Ring Finders web site. I let him know that I would be there as soon as possible, and when ready, I was on my way.

When I got there Steve took me to his yard, and showed me where he had been working. There was some wire to some lights that he was able to move, and some solar lights that I figured on working around. I was able to get to all of the areas that Steve showed me, but was unable to get a signal for the ring. The solar lights were providing a bit of a problem, but I worked around them as needed. I then went over the entire grass portion of his yard which was thick St. Augustine grass finding a dime and a penny. We talked, and then decided that we should detect the contents of the green waste bin, so Steve went out to get that ready. I told him I would go back once more and check the outer perimeter of the flower bed once more. I also worked closer to the solar lights, and near one was getting two signals, one strong one from the light post and another. I pulled the coil, and was still getting the second signal, and it was in the gold zone on my detector. I put in the pin pointer, and underneath a stalk of grass was his ring. I grabbed it and went out to tell Steve I had his ring, wherein he gave me a hug; he was so happy. It was so great to restore his joy! Another great day!

Keys Lost at Newport Beach, CA…Found and Returned.

I had been detecting at the beach a couple of days ago without much luck, and was on my way back to my car when I happened to get a strong signal. I scooped up a bunch of keys on a ring. It looked like a fresh drop, so I figured I would try to get the keys to a lifeguard if possible. I continued on when up ahead of me, I saw a young man frantically working through the sand with his hands. He was about 100 feet from where I found the keys, so I figured he might have lost a ring. I got to where he was and asked if he had lost something, and he told me that he lost his keys. He was so far from where I found the keys, that I asked him to describe them, which he did; I had found his keys. I told him he was looking in the wrong place, that I had found them 100 feet down the beach, and pulled them out of my bag. He saw them, and could not stop thanking me. Robert’s day ended on a great note, and I was so glad I was able to help.

Lost Gold Wedding Band at Aulani Disney Resort Ko Olina…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a phone call from Patrick and Tanya who were driving home through a snow storm in Minnesota. Tanya was on the phone while Patrick was driving. Tanya told me they had just received my contact number from Aulani Disney Resort where I’m the Metal Detectorist for the 4 lagoons on the property. Tanya described a ring that I thought I may have found the weekend before along with 3 others when they were enjoying their vacation at Aulani. I already posted my finds on my facebook page « Metal Detecting Oahu » and I told Tanya to text me a pic of Patrick’s ring. Sure enough it was a perfect match to the right front ring in the facebook photo. I Fedexed the ring back to Patrick in Minnesota and from the above photo you can see it safely arrived. Much Aloha to Patrick & Tanya!

10K Clemson College Ring Lost in a Golf Course Pond – Found and Returned North Myrtle Beach, SC

On February 13th, I received a phone call from Ryan asking if I could help retrieve his Clemson ring he lost, the day before, in a pond on a private golf course. My first question was, “are there any alligators?” He assured me there wasn’t, and went on to say that he lost it throwing a ball in the pond for his dog to fetch. He also said the ring was in about 6 to 8 foot of water. I told him I was up for the challenge, but I wasn’t a diver. However, my son-in-law, Donnie was, and I’m sure he’d help if I needed him. After all was said and done, I agreed to search but had to wait for a waiver of liability from the golf course. In the meantime, I called Donnie and told him what was going on, and I was going to attempt to recover the ring, and I’d call him if I needed his help.

Ryan sent me a text two days later saying his boss finished the waivers, and I could search as soon as I signed it. I had them make two waivers, in case I needed Donnie to help. We set it up that I’d meet him at 2 p.m. in his office, sign the waiver, and start the search. When I got to his office, I learned he was the Assist. Superintendent, which explained why he was able to have his dog with him on the course. He drove me out to the pond in one of the maintenance carts, and when we pulled up, I thought it didn’t look too bad. Well, looks were deceiving!
As I took my first few steps into the pond, I was sinking at least seven to eight inches in the extremely soft mud. I immediately started picking up great signals, but they were long and narrow. There’s only one thing those could be, yep – Golf clubs! Total, there was two putters, one fairway wood, two club shafts, one grip with a shaft, one tee marker, and two clubs I didn’t pull up.

So as I made my way out to the area Ryan said he saw his ring hit the water; the water was getting colder and deeper. The water temp had to be in the low 50s, my wetsuit helped, but it was still cold! I got out as deep as I could on tiptoes until I was chin deep and still wasn’t in the right spot. I searched as well as I could but wasn’t getting anything close to a small solid signal. I made my way back out of the water, picked up my cell phone and called Donnie.
When Donnie showed up, he had his scuba gear and went right to work. He made his way out and searched with no luck. By then it was almost dark, so we called it a day and made plans to go back.

We decided and planned on going back, today, February 20th. Donnie came up with a plan that he’d run a rope anchored on shore to an anchor buried in the mud past the suspected area. The rope gave him a track line that he could follow while submerged since any movement stirred the mud up and made visibility zero. Close to 30 minutes later, Donnie popped up holding the ring in his hand. Ryan drove up to check on us just as Donnie handed me the ring. Ryan was definitely excited he had his ring back.

Religious Medal and 24K Gold Chain Lost at Venice Beach, CA…Found and Joyously Returned.

Yesterday in the late afternoon, while sitting at home, I received a call from Jason. He had been playing beach volleyball, when sometime during the game, he noticed his gold chain was missing from around his neck. On that chain was a St. Christopher medal that his girlfriend had given him, so the sentimental value was enormous. He told me that he and his friends had searched for at least 45 minutes with no success. I told him I would be on my way.

When I got to the beach and walked to the area of the loss, I noticed a lone young man waiting by the volleyball court. I walked over, and he began to tell me what had happened as I asked my questions. I looked at the court and saw the grid lines where he and his friends had drug their feet and hands in the sand. During this time his friends came over, and there seemed to be a party atmosphere; the hopes were increased for a recovery. I began a slow grid of the court, and on my first pass I received a strong signal, dug, and out came the gold chain. Everybody got real excited. I continued my grid working my way out from where the chain was found. Jason asked that I concentrate on the area of the found chain, and I told him I would as soon as I finished my current grid. I made one more pass about 20 feet from where the chain was found when I received another stronger signal, one scoop, and the medal was in the scoop. Everybody was surprised that it was so far from the chain, but I have learned that things don’t always happened as we perceive. Needless to say, the guys were extremely happy, especially Jason. What a great evening!

Lost Silver Ring with Diamonds In The Snow Found In Southgate Michigan

A Family Tradition

This pictured gentleman lost his beautiful ring in the snow playing with the kids last week when enroute to his brothers birthday party…..
The story began when over the years a family member would do something for everyone when an important event happened in the family, whether it was something joyful or sad they always came together to help cope or celebrate. Last November their sister became ill and passed away.
Since she loved jewelry, the other brother bought everyone a piece of jewelry in remembrance.
Because of the heavy snow last week we did search last Friday, until we called it off, deciding to let the 2 foot drifts thaw a bit.
Even tho my bigfoot coil can cut thru the snow very effortlessly, the weight of the snow kept it from using it in that way at full potential.
When we met up this morning quite a bit of snow had melted down enough to do a better search. He remembered throwing snow with both hands in a forward motion and thought it was in that direction. Being that it was dark at the time it flew off, a true trajectory wasn’t for sure. He thought also that it had come off in another spot they were playing. I set up my MXT and started gridding the most likely areas he thought it was. He was nervously pacing around….with thoughts of having to move on March 1st hoping he wouldn’t have to leave it behind or that someone else may have found it. Knowing it was a silver ring I was looking for MXT meter reads in that area. When nothing came up I searched the areas behind where he was. My Nessie toy that hangs off my MXT has always brought me luck on these searches and after a few more sweeps I got a nice loud +77 and a depth of 4 inches. Getting a feeling this was it, I scraped the snow away with my garrett carrot and spotted the top portion of the ring, a nice onyx and diamonds reflecting back at me! I yelled over to him and the wife and son also came running! Encased in ice, I carefully removed the gorgeous ring and handed it to him who was still in shock that it was found! We took it into the house to thaw and examine for any damage. All looked good and now him and the family can move on, not just to a new home, but with their family tradition!
