We had a warmer than normal Halloween this year so Chris spent the day doing yard work before taking his young daughter out to hand out candy (she is too young for trick-or-treating). While waiting for the neighborhood kids to come around Chris spent some quality time playing with his daughter in the front yard. The following day he noticed that his wedding ring was missing so he and Jess, Chris’ wife spent hours looking for his ring. They turned the house inside out and looked in the planters that he was working in and also looked throughout the yard with no luck. Monday Chris found my listing on the TheRingFinders directory and called me. After a brief discussion we set my search for the following evening.

After my arrival Chris gave me a quick tour of the yard where he had worked, brought out a bag of leaves that he gathered while doing the yard work and showed me the part of the yard he and his daughter had played in. I searched the front yard where he spent time with his daughter and then moved my way to the back yard. I ran my White’s MXT over the bag of leaves and it sounded off. Due to the ring’s material the signal wasn’t a great one, but there was definitely a signal in the bag. I carried the bag over to one of the raised planters and checked it for signal, none were in the planter. I grabbed a large couple handfuls of leaves and placed them into the planter, the signal was in this pile of leaves. As I moved the leaves around with my pinpointer and eventually the Chris’ ring came into sight.

Chris and Jess were quite happy and a bit surprised that I found the ring.

Ring lost in the sand on San Diego Bay Found!

Zack left an urgent message on my cell phone voice mail stating that he had lost his 4 day old wedding ring in the sand across the street from where he was staying on his honeymoon. When I finally heard the message, I called him back for the details and arranged to meet him there at 11pm. We both arrived a bit early and Zack escorted me down to the area were he had lost it 3 hours earlier. He had been brushing sand off his hands by rubbing them on his pants when the unthinkable happened……the ring went flying into the sand and disappeared. Zack contemplated renting or buying a detector but found The Ring Finders online and decided to give us a try. Initially, I was told it was a silver ring, so, I expected a high pitched screamer for a target on my E-trac. Right after I fired my machine up, I get a low pitched, solid 12-06 moaner in my ears on my first swing. I asked again about the metal it was made of, and he said « silver, but it has some gold in it too ». Great, now I need to scoop virtually all non-ferrous sounds, starting with this one. Well, in this case, first time was the charm, as this 12-06 was his ring! So much for it being mainly silver. A happy Zack couldn’t believe I found it so quick. Getting me to the right spot was the key here, so, good job Zack! I hope you and your new bride enjoy the rest of your stay here. Great to meet you and thank you for the reward.

White gold rind recovered from Commerce City park

Patrick was out playing in the local park with his son with a boomerang type toy. Being afraid of losing his ring, Patrick took off his ring and placed it in his son’s hat which was on the ground. As they were bringing their play time to an end, Patrick’s son went to pick up his hat when he noticed it was crawling with ants so he gave his hat a kick. And with that Patrick’s ring went flying and disappeared into the grass. Patrick went to a local metal detector store and rented a detector. After several minutes of searching he had not found his ring and ended up calling me for help. Luckily I was only a couple of minutes away and even though I was running late for a dinner date with friends and my wife I couldn’t resist helping out.

After 15 minutes of searching my CTX gave me a nice ring signal, there sat Patrick’s ring peeking out of the grass. Quickly we gave high-fives and snapped a couple of photos so that I could race home to my diner date.

White gold ring recovered from Denver volleyball court

Nate was running late for his volleyball league game, so when he arrived at the courts he just hopped right in to the action. Within a minute of his joining the game his wedding ring slipped off his figure and landed in the sand of the volleyball court. He didn’t see the ring leave his figure but he noticed it was missing shortly thereafter.

Nate searched for his ring but would not find it as it had quickly sank out of sight in the loss sand. A few days later he found The Ring Finders and my profile, he contacted me and we set a date and time for a search.

I began my search pattern by running over the side of the court that he was on playing on when he lost his ring. I came up with a few targets but no ring. I then searched the opposing side hoping the ring flew to that side, no luck. I then switched machines and started another search pattern perpendicular to my original pattern. Within a couple of passes my MXT sounded off on a signal, I dug the sand out with my scoop. With in a few seconds the Nat’s ring was in my scoop. Nate was pretty darn happy, his wife had given up hope 30 minutes into the search. So she had a wonderful surprise when I dropped Nate off at home.

Nate’s ring is a unique one with wood and meteorite insets in white gold.

Lost Wedding Band… Found Near Independence Iowa

I found a mans white gold wedding band Monday for a nice young couple. He was messing with some leaky paint cans and didn’t want to get paint on his ring so he gave it to his wife to hold for him. There was an outside water faucet beside the barn so she decided to wash any paint that got on the ring off and wash her hands and get a drink. She thought she put the ring on her ring finger next to her wedding ring and then shook her hands to try and get them dry. Well the ring came off. They searched on hands and knees, bought a cheap detector, no luck. I arrived and gridded the area beside the faucet and didn’t come up with it. So I expanded my search, still nothing. I had her do a couple of reenactments with a ring I brought with me and the ring never went very far. So I put on my six inch coil and went back through the area in a tight grid, still not there. I was beginning to think I would have to come back and do the entire yard. We were standing there discussing it when something on the ground caught my eye. I looked away and then my brain said look back there. I walked over and there it was laying in the gravel. gravel-ring   How it got there is a mystery because it was on the right hand side of the faucet. Lost rings found at North Avenue Beach Chicago

Got a call at 8:30AM on Sunday, Fathers Day.
Woman was very upset that she lost both her wedding band and her engagement ring at North Ave Beach on Saturday. Took off her rings to put on lotion and forgot they were on her lap. She was leaving Chicago shortly on Sunday. Time was of the essence.  Didn’t want to break the news to her husband on Father’s Day that she lost both rings. Since they were white gold and I didn’t know how small they were, I decided to take the XP Deus and hunt in 18kHz. They had been searching the area 3 different times and lots of people had been trying to help her find them. I gridded off the area that she had been in. They were both down about 5 inches. Probably because people had been moving the sand around. Both rings came in at 45 in my ring program that Andy Sabisch helped me set up at his XP Deus Bootcamp. As you can see the wedding band was very thin, although covered in diamonds. Don’t think I would have found it if I had not been in 18kHz. Found it in less than 10 minutes.
The owner was in tears she was so relieved. She kept saying that I saved her. She was so excited to get the rings back on her hands that you can still see the sand on them!  It’s great to be able to help people. What a great hobby. Lost Wedding Band…Found At Boone, Iowa

A guy named Guy sent me an email last month about his lost wedding band. He was participating in a mud run on ski hills and lost his ring. Lucky for him he had a GoPro camera on that day because he was able to determine on what hill the ring slipped off.

At the top of a hill called Abby’s Alley (coincidently his wife’s name is Abby) he had his ring on, when he got to the bottom and got a glass of water he noticed it was gone. Today he had his children along and we all went about halfway up the hill. He said he thought when he lost it he was sliding down the hill in mud and using his hands to slow himself down.

So I started my search in the middle of the path, my first hit was a penny type signal, my second hit was his ring! I looked down and could see an edge of it in the dirt. Man I like those quick hunts. He couldn’t believe I found it so fast and was very happy to have his ring back.

Cape Cod beach holds wedding band for 5 months

When it is meant to be it will happen.

A call for help finding a unique wedding band came in and I went, not once but several times with no success in finding it. August, September, October, and November came and went with no sign of the ring. I was feeling that some other detectorist may have found it, With so many visiting detectorist to Cape Cod there is no way I could ever hope to hear or read of the majority of items found.

My detecting partner of 4 years took off this summer to plant his roots in Florida. Why? To get away from the cold winters and enjoy the warmer waters. Why else? Most of his family still resides in New England and I was to enjoy his company on occasion when he would come north for the holidays and family visits. Such as the case was in December. Of course we were to get some detecting time in and to look for a lost ring. Three hours and about time to leave the cold water, Dick dug his last signal for the year…it was to be Jonathan’s ring that had survived the onslaught of detectorists and my effort to locate it.

Five days later Jon showed up on my doorstep for his ring and to pose for a photo. Jon was sporting a “replacement non-precious” metal ring that he plans to wear it on all future beach adventure, leaving his special band home in a safe place. I could not have asked for a better way to end one year and start the next. Sometimes a good thing just takes a while to come together for a Happy New Year!Jon1320 JonRing1318

Mother’s wedding band lost, found and returned

A very overcast day turned into liquid sunshine when I found Frances’ lost ring. The ring had been her mother’s and Frances was devastated when it went missing from her finger while feeding birds at the woods’ edge.

When I arrived Frances and her boyfriend had marked the area with ribbons and had been searching for hours with a rented metal detector. Their unsuccessful searching had them searching for more help. They found The Ring Finders and sent an e-mail. Within 4 hours I was at the site and with a helpful explanation of where and how the loss happened I started a search.

The edge of the woods was grassy and sloped downhill. The ground cover beyond the tree line was very low shrub growth. I really hoped the ring was not in the shrubs as I thought I would not be able to swing the detector close enough to the ground to hear a signal if I passed over the ring. I tried putting my ring on the ground under the shrubs and I could hear the ring’s presence. My hopes heightened.

I decided to search from the edge inward. On my second pass and still in the grassy area I got a signal and under a leaf was the ring.

Needless to say Frances was overwhelmed and very thankful for my help. I was very pleased that the hunt had gone so well and was over quickly as the day’s drizzle turned in more harder rain.
