I was practicing my detector skills and settings at « The Circle ». As I pulled another bottlecap from it’s sandy depths (glass bottles are prohibited here), a couple asked if I had found an ear ring. Kate informed me she had lost the ear ring in the same general area 2 days prior. My recovery mode went into action as I started to grid the area. To her surprise and after a few more pieces of junk metal, I received a solid 1 signal on my Minelab Equinox 800. It took 1 scoop to unbury her missing ear ring.
Kate was thrilled I found it and explained although it didn’t have monetary value, her Aunt had made the ear rings for her and the sentimental value connection made her very happy to have the set back in her possession.

It was a busy Sunday, my first search was for 3 1/2 hours and no success walking over two kilometres looking for a lost wedding band for a young man. The next day I saw it posted on craigslist and I contacted him to let him know someone had found it and said that they found it two days before I started the search. I felt very happy that his ring was found and returned, then I drove to Chilliwack to find a ring in the backyard (5 minute search) and then on the way home I stopped off at Crescent Beach were a young lady’s mother contacted me in regards to her daughter losing three very precious rings that were gifts from her great grandmother, grandmother, and her mother.
She went on to tell me the rings were lost two days prior to her calling me, so I knew it could be a bit of a long shot due to how many people search these beaches in the summertime. We met at around 8 PM at the beach and talks about the search area, the young lady told me that they were playing volleyball and throwing a football. She also told me she took off all three rings and gave it to a friend to put in his pocket so she would not lose them. Playing volleyball they did not have a net and we’re just passing it around so no real reason for the rings to jump out of the pocket. Also it was short grass so most likely I would have spotted at least one ring. After 30 minutes on the grass I moved the search to the sandy part of the beach where they were throwing the football. She remembered her friend had fallen to the ground a couple of times trying to catch the pass.
This was my »hot area » as diving for the ball and landing on the sand would definitely cause rings to fall out of a pocket. After approximately 30 minutes of grid searching the area it wasn’t looking good for success, until I’m close to my last grid search line I popped up one of the rings!!!
I now gnu the chances of finding the other two were extremely high in that approximate area and I was right! Will you see here on my post and my videos are smiles and recoveries, when you don’t see is the many times I go out searching for rings and I’m not successful. Most times it’s because people did not lose the ring where they thought they lost it, they will call me the next day or two sometimes a month or two later and tell me where they found it in their house or in their car. In all my years I’ve only had one search where I missed the ring and the people found it themselves. I’m only human I can make mistakes too.
The connection to these rings were very powerful, they were her a gift from her grand mother, her great grandmother, and her mothers gold rings, handed down to her to continue the story and hopefully one day pass on to her daughter or son. I felt honoured to be able to help find and help continue the stories of these beautiful rings.

Today I received a call from a young lady who told me that she had lost her gold & diamond pendant. She told me that she had lost it off of her patio and she felt it come off but didn’t hear where it landed. Her and her girlfriend had spent hours looking for the pendant with no luck. The reason that she knew to call TheRingFinders was because a month earlier her husband had hired me to look for his lost platinum wedding band. Unfortunately he lost it last summer, I had no luck or no chance in finding it because it was a heavily hunted beach a lot of time had passed before I did my search.
I arranged to meet the young lady after work and shortly after 8:30 PM I arrived at the search location, I met her and she showed me where she was standing when she lost her diamond pendent, she showed me where they were looking and also told me that she took all the plants out of the flower pot and search the dirt because it made sense to her it could’ve fallen into the flower pot. After not finding it in the flower pot she moved her search below the deck and into the grass but couldn’t understand why she didn’t see it in the short grass, I decided my search at the first place she thought it was lost and that was the flower pot, I put my pin pointer into the flower pot and I got a good signal right away. She was surprised to hear my pin-pointer go off and said that she had searched it with no luck earlier in the day.
Well after only about a minute of searching I found her beautiful diamond pendant and I was able to surprise her, it’s truly amazing where these sentimental items end up being found, especially after people have search for many hours and couldn’t find it.
I have the best job in the world I get to help find these beautiful items and also return the smile back to the people…I love my job!!

Back in October I received a message from a distraught lady that had just lost her wedding ring set on a recent outing. She had found my offer of recovery services on TheRingFinder.com website. As the story developed it turned out to be our local KIRO morning news anchor Colleen O’Brien. She had just lost her wedding ring set on a recent outing to the park with her family. After working with her over the phone she had high hopes that the rings were most likely lost in the park. As they had taken some family photos within the grass amongst the fallen leaves. I also learned that they had made a stop at the local Walgreens where she hopped out for a quick visit before reaching the park. With that in mind I encouraged her to revisit the parking lot of the Walgreens for a second look as they were closer to the location than I.
Being a high traffic public area this made it critical to respond as soon as possible. Our concerns in public parking lots is to scan the area before someone else finds your lost items of value. Even though many people will try to find you not everyone will return expensive wedding rings or even understand the best ways to reach out to the public. I was still on schedule to search the retail parking lot and the park as necessary when the good news came in. Her husband was able to swing by the parking lot soon after our conversation and recovered both of the lost wedding rings for his wife, Colleen.
I am always happy to work with people over the phone and overwhelmed with joy any time someone gets a recovery no matter how it comes about. Just being able to share some insight, hope and encouragement was exactly what this story needed and I was honored to take the call.

I received a call from Hamid on Friday He lost his Hearing aid on trap line North of Gull Lake Saskatchewan. He had tried his Metal Detector’s and they wouldn’t find his other hearing aid. At a loss and looking at replacements that could cost up to $3000. He did some research finding the ring finders website and my number.
We decided that Sunday morning I would meet with him and go out on the the trapline. Before we left he had me check to see if the detectors I brought with me could find the hearing aid the Garrett AT Gold locate it ringing a solid 2, the Minelab X Terra 70 had weak signal.
I started the search from the location on the trail where he notice it missing. At this spot he had a tree branch brush the side of his head, and is the first time he noticed it missing. I started searching in wide grid pattern working from the left side of the trail to the right thought the tress and brush, moving in the direction he came from. There was a couple signals along the trail but they were a high VDI reading and about 6 inches in the ground I was looking for a shallow target. After sometime I got a solid signal of 2 about two feet next to the trail a inch deep in the snow aways down the trail.
Hamid couldn’t believe it when I bent down telling him it was his hearing aid and moving the snow away revealed the hearing aid. Its a great feeling being able to give back a lost item that some has lost being the smile on their faces!

I got a phone call from a young man who lost his keys while he was gardening in his yard, he asked if I could come out and help find them. He told me the keys were for his house & workplace, he didn’t have an extra set. I felt confident that I would find the keys if, in fact, he lost them in the yard. Key searches are relatively a simple search, but I try never to go into a search believing it is going to be easy because that’s when they surprise you. He lived in Abbotsford which is over 100 km each way and I knew the drive would be much longer than the search. When we met and he showed me the area, I told him he could go in the house and stay warm and that I would text him when I found the keys. The search area was quite a big area but it only took a matter of minutes to find his keys and to my surprise, they were buried in the ground close to where he pulled out a tree. He was in his house for only a few minutes and then I text him to come back out and grab his keys, I left them in the dirt for him to see where they were found and just had one key exposed. I could see how happy he was when he came around the corner, he asked where I found them and I showed him where and I think he too was surprised they were buried.
Key searches might not be as exciting as finding a ring but I know sometimes it can be just as important.

After the Jon Cryer ring recovery, I was contacted by a lot of local people who read the story and asked if I could help them find their lost ring. Unfortunately, a big percentage of the calls were for rings that were lost in public areas such as parking lots, department stores, cabs, restaurants, places I cannot metal detect and help people.
However, this call I received made me feel pretty certain the outcome would result in a smile. The young man lost his late grandfather’s ring by throwing in the Applecore in the front yard and into some bushes. We arranged a time to meet and when I got there I was greeted by the young man who showed me exactly where he threw the apple core and where they found the apple core. These searches can take minutes some could take hours, it’s just figuring out the direction the ring went, most times it never ends up buy the apple core.
After 40 minutes or so and no ring, I backed up my thought process went to where he was standing when he threw the apple and I literally found the ring less than 2 feet away from where he stood.
A lot of times you have to think out-of-the-box and when you’re not finding it where you think it should be, it’s only because it’s not there, it’s where you find it.
I have the best job in the world and I love doing this more than anything I’ve done in my lifetime. I get to make people smile, I get to hear their stories of what the ring means to them and how happy they are when I’m lucky enough to find it.

I received an email wondering if I could go up to a western Wisconsin lake and see if I could recover a lost ring. It was about 14o miles away. Wanting to ensure a successful recovery on the first trip we waited until both could meet on site to confirm the location of where it was lost. The water in the lake is getting very cold around 36 degrees F. so waders were going to have to be used. I was told that the ring came off while uncovering a boat. The ring slipped off and went into the lake near the end of the dock in about 4 feet of water. The lake levels can be lowered for the winter by conservation officials and was down about a foot from summer levels. This putting the search area in around 3 -4 feet of water. This was about the maximum depth that I could go before water would come over the waders and my hand would be submerged holding on to the metal detector. I also use an aluminum scoop to recover targets to prevent from having to get wet this time of year. The search area was about a 15′ x 10′ area. Several attempts were made at finding the ring by the owner and friends and neighbor. They tried snorkeling, raking and tried a metal detector with no luck. I have in the past had searchers looking for lost items using rakes end up moving the rings to a new location, which expands the search area. I started out with my primary search. A primary search is an initial search in the area of the highest degree of likelihood. It is usually just seeing how many targets are out in the location and if anything just screams hear I am. The lost ring was platinum with some diamonds. So you look for somewhat shallow targets, anything deeper then 4″ is kind of ruled out. The bottom of lakes if real sandy might get pushed down by searchers stepping on it but in this case there was a hardpan layer about 2″ below the bottom sand so it was going to be shallow. I did pick up several targets that were in the range of the ring but turned out to be pop tops/ pull tabs, bottle caps and other misc. junk targets. After searching for 15 – 20 minutes I got a hit on pretty good signal but not jumping out, I had set my scoop down on the dock which was about 6-8′ away. When hitting that target I did not want to take my eye off the target location but I needed to go grab the scoop. Its not hard to loose the target by waves pushing you or currents in rivers. I identified a small white pebble on the bottom that I could come back to. I grabbed the scoop and found the white stone. took a scoop and missed the target, took and second scoop and I had whatever it was in my scoop. BAM there it was… The ring, what a great feeling seeing the ring in your scoop. It never gets old. Now to reunite the owner to the ring. When I walked back up the hill to the cabin, I mentioned to owner that was standing out on the deck – « boy a lot of junk targets out there ». He said yes he was afraid of that. When I extended my hand out with the ring, it took him by surprise. You found it. You could just see the emotion run across his face. The ring had such deep sentimental value that when reunited you can feel that everything is back in it place and the relief that you are complete again. It’s so great to see that relief happen right before your eyes.
Justin contacted me asking for some assistance on searching for his lost 14k gold wedding band. Recently he had lost some weight and his wedding band of ten years had become loose on the finger. Earlier in the day he went to Angle Lake Park for a swim with his daughter and nearly lost it. Fortunately he took his ring off and secured it to his key chain for safe keeping. He did have a strong memory of having his ring back on his finger once he returned home. He told me that he spent some time in his back yard and one of the actions he remembered was playing with his cat. He was dancing around the cat a bit and moving his hands about. Based upon the knowledge of the loose fitting ring and this bit of animated play and seeing the thick backyard grass I had a strong suspicion his ring was most likely in the yard.
Justin told me he had been looking through his yard for the past two months and just one week prior to my search he had purchased a basic metal detector. He admitted he didn’t have much success with the machine and this is when he went looking on line for fresh options. Fortunately he stumbled across TheRingFinders.com and the rest is history.

This time of year in Ohio as the seasons change and the leaves start to turn, people are doing last minute tree trimming, yard work and clearing of brush. Sometimes with the cooler temperatures the rings fit a little looser.
This was the case with a gentleman from Allen County. He contacted me Saturday night (10/17/20) to tell me that while he was cutting some limbs out of some pine trees and pulling saplings the night before,he and a friend were feeling rushed as darkness approached. Apparently with the cooler temperatures his ring had slipped off. They looked for it for a short time and the gentleman returned the next day with two friends to continue the search. By that point the yard had been mowed and even with the freshly cut grass they could not find the ring . after dropping another ring in the grass to see if he could find that ring he noticed how quickly it was covered. He quickly picked the second ring back up but this also concerned him. If the grass is hiding the ring how do I find it? He and his friends checked the limbs that they had cut out of the pine tree as well as the brush they had picked up before cutting it down into smaller pieces and putting it in a dumpster. They then headed back to the respective homes while the gentleman reviewed his possible options. Do I give up on the ring?… Do I try to purchase a metal detector and see if I can find it myself? He started to check Google and that’s when he ran across me on TheRingfinders.com which is also about the same time his friend contacted him with the same information. He grabbed his phone and gave me a call to see if I could possibly help him with his dilemma.

When I answered the phone he had explained to me what the situation was, what had happened and what he had lost. Normally, he removes his rings when he does this sort of work but he did not on this occasion and was not very happy with himself that such a thing had been allowed to happen. He mentioned that he was a big believer in karma and thought that since he as well as his friend had found my information at basically the same time that it was karma telling him to give me a try.
After many questions for him about the area it was lost in, the conditions it was lost under, what the ring looked like including the composition of the Ring and any other identifying marks I told him I thought I could help. He was of course very happy to hear this. He was very accommodating to make his schedule meet up with mine and we made plans to meet up the next afternoon at a restaurant in his area to follow him to the location where the ring had been lost.
My wife and I made the trip the next afternoon to meet up with the gentleman who was an absolute pleasure to meet. He had been very thoughtful in writing down directions to the location even though we were going to follow him just in case we got lost. He had even called me when we were on our way to let us know it was raining in the area we were traveling to period he was concerned that that may affect my equipment and if we needed to we could back it up an hour or so for the rain to pass. I had told him we were on the road and would see him soon. The rain was no worry since I was bringing a waterproof machine.
Hunting was tough in the area but we still got it done.
After meeting at the restaurant and following him to the location where the ring was lost I had him explain the conditions again in which the ring was lost under and show me the area that he believed it to be in. As I grabbed my detector I dumped my pouch into a bucket to show him there was nothing in the pouch. I have recently begun doing this as much for my protection as the person I am searching for their lost item. After showing the pouch was empty I told him that once I was done I would again empty the pouch so that he could see anything that was in it.
Turning on the detector I headed for the trees. I felt I should clear that area first and then start covering the grass between the trees and the pavement where they had been working. Just a few short feet into the trees the brush became fairly thick. I explained to him I was going to remove any surface signals that may mask the item. Next thing you know the brush is thick enough I am on my hands and knees and a detector is almost useless at this point. I’m crawling around on twigs, pine needles and pine cones picking up surface trash and other metal targets on the surface with a pin pointer to clear the area. I found many trash targets as well as some glass bottles. I also found a Lincoln penny while crawling around on the ground . Then I got a signal and brushed the pine cones out of the way and saw the bottom of a gold band. I knew right away this must be the ring . As I rolled it over in my hand to see the stone there was no doubt it was the item I was looking for. The item I had been looking for was a gold band with a 1.25 to 1.5 carat diamond.
After about 30 minutes, my pouch was full. I started out of the trees to try and get rid of some of the trash. I handed him two bottles that he promptly took over to the dumpster to dispose of while I started dumping my pouch into the bucket. Showing him all the trash that had been found he walked over to his truck to get a trash bag to put it in to properly dispose of it. When he returned from his truck I held out my hand to show him the Lincoln penny that I had found in the trees. He glanced at it and said that it was just a penny and I could keep it if I wanted. I told him I had ran across the penny and stuck it in my pocket because that’s not what I was there to find. I was there to find a ring
He agreed that yes, he was hoping I could return his ring to him. I sat the penny down on the back of the truck and as he started to pick up the trash again, I mentioned to him that I had also found this laying on the ground in the trees and held out my hand to present him with his lost ring. He was both very surprised and very happy! He then asked me if he could possibly have the penny that I had showed him due to the fact that it could be a Good luck Penny, since I found his ring right after that . I of course promptly complied and told him with a smile yes! You can have the penny as well.
I asked him to tell me a bit about the ring, if he would. He mentioned that he had bought the diamond around 40 years ago and shortly after that bought the setting and band for it. He had managed to keep it all these years until that cool October Friday night and less than 48 hours after being lost we were able to return it promptly back to its rightful owner.
I can understand why he was hoping to get his ring returned. It is definitely a very nice looking ring and one to be proud of for a return . As a side note, due to the situation that we are in currently with Covid-19 even though the picture does not show it due to the masks we were both smiling and very happy in this picture. I was happy to be a part of this great return and the gentleman was certainly very thankful and happy to have his ring back in such a short amount of time.
