John called me Wednesday night explaining how he was playing volleyball, and lost his ring while going for a hit. He was still at the beach, and was willing to wait for me to come, so I gathered my gear, and was on my way. He met me and walked me over to the area of his lost ring. We talked about what had happened, what he was doing when the ring came off, and what direction the ring was most likely to have traveled. Having all of that information, it took about 5 minutes to find what had eluded John for hours. What a great opportunity to bring a smile back to John for his ride home.

Platinum Wedding Band Lost at Manhattan Beach, CA…Found

I had just finished dinner when I received a phone call  at about 8:00 PM from Jeff. He had been at the beach playing volleyball, and not wanting to lose his rings, he put them in his shirt which he placed on his beach chair. It wasn’t until he went back to sit down and rest that he realized someone had moved the chair about 10 feet from its original location. The first thing he did was look for his rings, and found one, the other had fallen into the sand, and so began his search. He and his friends looked and looked for the ring, and could not find it. I told him I would get there right away, so they waited until I arrived. They showed me the area, and Jeff pointed to the area the chair had been moved to thinking that would be the place. I began my grid, and slowly worked my way to the area the chair had been moved to, and right in front of the chair was where I found Jeff’s ring. In 10 minutes, I was able to hand his ring back. He will be able to sleep well tonight. It was nice that Jeff’s friends waited with him until the ring was found, so we all celebrated together; a lot of « high-fives » going around.

I received an email from Laura this morning regarding her husband’s lost wedding ring. They had been to the beach last night enjoying the warm night air, and having dinner. Her husband started digging in the sand, and soon realized his wedding ring was missing. They had gotten married two years ago, and honeymooned in Ireland. They were enjoying themselves when due to circumstances beyond their control, they had to abandon their original itinerary, and ended up in a small hamlet somewhere in Ireland. It was there where they met a jeweler in a small shop who took a liking to the newlyweds, and offered to engrave a special message of love on the inside of each ring in Gaelic. A ring with a story like this is irreplaceable, and therefore is priceless. We arranged to meet at the beach at about noon. When I got there, and she showed me the area of the loss, I set up and began my grid. I worked one way towards where they began, and then worked back picking up numerous bits of trash. It was then I heard the sound of something good in my earphones. I was able to give Laura back her husband’s ring after about 20 minutes. It was wonderful to see such joy return to Laura, and her husband through the text he sent to her when he saw the picture of his ring. Awesome day, the story of the ring continues.

Platinum Engagement Ring Lost at Sunset Beach, CA…Found.

I received a call from Kellie last night at about 6:30 about losing her ring in the surf at the beach. She explained how this ring had an extreme sentimental value to her because of personal circumstances in her family. Well I looked at the tide charts, and realized that it would not be good to go at that time because the tide was rising, but arranged to meet her and her husband Anthony at the beach this morning, at 12:00 AM. We got to the spot, and Kellie had told me how the current was very strong when she went in. She had been about waist deep when the ring came off, so I knew that with the lower tide, and the weight of the ring, I would be able to get into the area the ring had settled in. They had a real good idea where the ring was lost, and even had a landmark (someone had dug a hole in the sand), from which I began my search at about 12:15 AM. I know this beach, and the current flows like a river that runs parallel to the beach with such power that it is hard to stand against it at times. I began my search working up and down the slope, and off into the direction the current was flowing, figuring the ring would have been carried in that direction as it sank. Well about 45 minutes later, I received a good signal down at the water’s edge, and in one scoop had her ring. They had gone to the lifeguard tower to wait, and as I walked up the beach I saw Kellie jump down and hurriedly come my way in the darkness. She was overwhelmed with joy at the sight of the once lost ring, and she and her husband were so thankful. What a pleasure it was to be able to return this joy to them. Kellie was referred to me by Stan Ross (fellow Ring Finder).

Custom Palladium Wedding Ring Lost at Redondo Beach, CA…Found.

I had been out metal detecting Huntington Beach, CA, and was on my way home when I happened to return a call I had received while my earphones were on. I contacted James, and he told me how he had been out for a swim yesterday, and was coming to shore when the wave action in the shore break caused his ring to slide off. In a panic he searched for next couple of hours to no avail. He said he came back today and searched some more, but began to think it was an exercise in futility. James then turned to the internet, and found TheRingFinders.com, where he found my blog. It was perfect, I had my equipment with me, so I made a bee line to Redondo Beach. When I arrived James showed me where he remembered coming out of the water. I put my waders on because I figured I would be getting wet. I made three passes, in and out of the water, and caught a signal right at the edge of the water and sand when the wave receded, and in two scoops I had this great looking ring in my scoop. James was overwhelmed, because he really thought his ring was gone for good; he even told me his wife had called the jeweler who had created this one, and ordered another. Well it certainly was a pleasure to see such joy, and get a big hug from James. Another great day!

Lost Woman’s Wedding Ring at beach in Ohio. “FOUND”

I received a call about a lost white gold wedding band set in about 3 foot of water at the beach. After getting more details and getting permission to search. Started the search with no good hits, then found some junk and pull tabs. After expanding the search area and scooping up sand. There was the ring in my sand scoop. With him beside me and her back on the beach. He very happy that the ring was found and she was even happier to have the ring back.

My son and I had just gotten home from getting him some football cleats for the upcoming season, when I received a call from Claire. She said she had lost a ring and was hoping I could help. Well I was home and close to my equipment, so I knew that I could get on the road towards her location quickly. I was about an hour away, but I knew that beach, and with our weather (wonderful), it would be packed and parking would be at a premium. Fortunately I was able to park quickly, and found her. I then met her husband of three weeks, Paul, and they explained how they had come from London in the UK, to honeymoon in California, Arizona, and Nevada, and spent today lounging on our local beach. They told me that Paul wanted to go in the water, and did not want to lose his ring, so he gave it to his new wife for safekeeping. Claire did not want to lose it either, so she put the ring on her thumb, and laid back on her towel; she then dosed off. Something awoke Claire, and when she awoke a reflex caused her to flick her wrist, and off went the ring. They had been searching for a while, but were unable to find the ring. Paul showed me the area he thought the ring had gone to, and that was the area they concentrated on. Getting all of the information, I then began a small grid of the area, and low and behold Paul was correct in his assessment; I found the ring right in the area Paul had been searching. It is amazing to know how hard these rings are to find, even when you are looking right at them, so to speak. I really enjoyed hearing about their travels, and seeing the happiness that I was able to leave on the beach today, another great day.

Wedding Band Lost in Seal Beach, CA…Found.

I had just spent the morning metal detecting the beach, and was on my way home, but was going to do some shopping first. I had just entered Costco when my phone rang. Katelyn called and said she had lost her ring at the beach, and was unable to find it. Well I still had all of my equipment in the vehicle, and knew the beach was about 45 minutes away, and also knew that this beach is one that gets cleaned real good, so time once again was working against me. I told Katelyn I would be there as quickly as possible, and she said she would wait for me. I left my cart in the aisle and took off for the beach. When I got there she had cordoned off the area she thought the ring was lost in using towels, toys, baskets, and a wagon, which was a great help. I got ready, and began my search. I searched the whole area, and then we had to start moving the « fencing ». We moved everything, and no ring. Then we moved the wagon. I searched the area under the wagon, and then the area behind where it was parked, and that is when I heard the sweet tone of gold in my earphones. One scoop was all that was needed, and Katelyn had her ring back. What a joy to see her joy today. She told me she had taken it off when she was putting her hand in the sand, and then found it missing. She also said that she and her husband just celebrated their first wedding anniversary last month, so what a disappointment it was to lose the very symbol of that occasion. I am thankful I was able to help Katelyn today. Katelyn was referred to me by Stan Ross (fellow Ring Finder).

Princess Engagement Ring Lost in Hermosa Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned

Lesley called me this afternoon to ask if I would be able to help her find her engagement ring. She was at one of our local beaches which was about 30 minutes away. The problem was she had to board the bus for the long ride home in an hour. I threw my equipment in the truck and headed for the beach as quickly as I could. I was able to find parking close to the area she was in, and was at the site in about 35 minutes. After going over what had happened (putting on sunscreen, and taking the ring off to do so), I was able to estimate where the beauty was going to be. Within about 5 minutes, I was able to hand Lesley’s ring back to her. A great smile appeared, and when I looked around there were smiles everywhere. There was a whole group of young people that were aware of Lesley’s predicament, and when the ring was recovered all came around to express their joy as well. When all was finished Lesley still had about 15 minutes to get to the bus for her ride home. A lot of smiles today; what a great day!

Received a call today from Jessie regarding his wives lost wedding ring at Crystal Beach on the Bolivar Peninsula in Galveston County, Texas.

Jessie advised his family was vacationing on Crystal Beach, and his wife Courtney had lost her ring in the water on Crystal Beach.  Jessie said she was in about 4 foot of water when she lost the ring and they where pretty sure of its general location.

Plans were made to meet early in the morning today to escape the remaining 4th of July traffic in and around Galveston. The trip down early was the right plan but the trip back not so much, seemed like everyone was leaving the island at exactly the same time, cost me several hours.

Sargassum Seaweed has been plaguing the Texas coast for most of the month making metal detecting a little less desirable, and extremely difficult at times.

I meet Jessie and his family this morning and we did a walk through of how and where the ring was lost. The seaweed and tide conditions had all changed since the previous day making the location a little more difficult for Courtney.

After about 30 minutes of searching with no success Jessie and Courtney came back out into the water and placed themselves as accurately as possible in the drop location. I worked a circle grid around them and on about the second loop hit a faint signal.

I personally think both Jessie and Courtney were starting to loose a little faith in the idea their ring would ever be found. Perhaps being back out in the water and seeing what was involved changed their expectations.

I pulled up that faint target, washed the sand from the basket, and saw what most people would think could never be found.
