June 30, 2025  Chris and his wife were enjoying the sun, sand, and surf when the combination of a loose ring, sun tan lotion and cool water working together let Chris’s ring slip off his finger. A call for help was placed to J&E Enterprise resulted in a call to me. I took the information and headed to the beach. It was 3 hours past low tide and was coming in fast. The pinned google photo showed me I should be working on the edge of a sea weed bed. It was the first day I braved the water in a bathing suit and to my surprise the water was comfortable but the sea weed patch was just beyond my reach by some 5 feet. I worked the area from the deepest I could go, inward to knee deep water. An hour and a half passed with only one dug target. I was about ready to give up until my detector gave off with the best signal I had heard. I took a scoop and missed the target. Took another scoop, a shake or two and saw the handsome rose gold ring in the bottom of my scoop.

Now all that was left was to contact Chris and set up the return. It turned out that I would mail the ring to his home address. Which has been done and I now have another photo for the Book of Smiles.

It was a warm, sunny day in Avalon, NJ when Tom, Liz, and their family were enjoying a relaxing afternoon on the beach. Before heading into the ocean to play with the kids, Tom handed his wedding band to Liz for safekeeping. She held onto it while watching their belongings and soaking up the sun.

Later in the day, as they were packing up to leave, Liz realized the ring was no longer in her hand. Panic set in as they searched the area where they had been sitting, but the ring was nowhere to be found. Sand has a way of swallowing up valuables in seconds, and they knew they needed help fast.

That’s when they contacted me at Ring Finders South Jersey. I arrived at the Avalon beach within 20 minutes, ready to search. Using my professional-grade metal detector, I began sweeping the area where the ring was last seen.

After just a few minutes, I picked up a strong signal. I carefully dug down and there it was: Tom’s lost wedding band, buried just beneath the surface of the sand. The look of relief and joy on their faces said it all. Another successful recovery and a happy ending on the Jersey Shore!

TWO LOST GOLD RINGS in CHAPEL HILL, NC…….FOUND!!!!

Received a text from a fellow ring finder asking if I wanted to take a double ring recovery that he wasn’t available to go out on. Of course I said, “SURE!”

I was passed on that they were lost at a wedding venue.

He sent me his number, I texted him, he said he lost them after he put them in his pocket before playing football with some kids. Turned out he had a hole in his pocket and that’s how he lost them. We set up a time when I could be there. I also had to gain permission from the Venue. The Venue said I could come out, but I had to be off the property by noon because they have events scheduled from noon today all the way until Sunday.

I arrived at 10 am, took me about an hour, but I found them both about 7 inches apart!

When we met up, his first words were, “YOU GOT ME OUT OF THE DOGHOUSE!”

Received a call from Steph this evening after being recommended to her on a local FB group. Steph explained that her friend, Amber, lost her engagement ring while brushing sand off of her hands at Sunset Beach. She and her friends had been sifting thru the sand on their hands and knees for over an hour with no success. Took the ten minute ride over to Sunset Beach from home and met up with Amber, Steph, & the rest of their party. There was a palpable nervous tension but I tried to reassure the group that I would get the ring back. Started a tight grid pattern and recovered Ambers ring on the second pass in about 5 minutes. Last month I received a call from Eli in ChesterBrook whose beautiful gold phoenix ring launched off his finger whilst he was tossing some apples into the woods at his house to feed the deer! After searching a while himself he reached out for a helping hand. We started in the ivy below his deck but true to Chris’ words, the ring was almost exactly 45* from where Eli had been standing when he threw it. As I carefully went through the ivy, Eli stepped away to take a phone call and nearly tripped over the ring! Very happy to have been able to help, even though Eli actually found the ring!! Sometimes it helps to take a step back.

Ring recovery I won’t forget- Pensacola Beach

Yesterday afternoon, as I was heading home from work, I got a call from Devon. The week before, I had been away for the holiday and had to turn down several people needing help, so it felt especially good to be available — and to have my gear in the car — when Devon called.

Devon had lost something incredibly meaningful over the weekend: his grandfather’s ring. It had been passed down to him to wear on his wedding day and had been in the family for 55 years. He lost it while throwing a football in the Gulf late at night, and he said one of the hardest things he’s ever done was call his grandfather to tell him it was gone.

Thankfully, a coworker who heard him talking about it at work knew what I do and suggested he give me a call.

We met at the beach, and Devon was clearly anxious as he explained where he’d been in the water. I started making passes with my detector, pulling out some trash at first — each time hoping it might be the ring. I reminded myself that God’s will would be done either way, and I settled in for the hunt.

Eventually, I pushed out deeper into the June Grass — and that’s when I heard it. The unmistakable tone of gold.

I scooped up a mix of shells and sand — and there it was: Devon’s heirloom ring.

He hadn’t seen me find it, so I walked over and joked that I was taking a break because there was just so much random metal out there. I held out the scoop casually and said, “Take a look at the stuff I’m finding.”

Devon leaned in… and then saw it. His expression shifted from worry to absolute joy. He grabbed my hand and pulled me in for a hug.

He called his wife right away with the good news — but the best moment came when he FaceTimed his grandfather. The shock and joy on his face said it all. He said, “I can’t believe it,”!

I was thrilled myself. Moments like this are exactly why I do what I do. I’m incredibly grateful I could help continue the story of this special ring.

Wedding Band Recovered in the Gulf

Jason asked if I could look for his wedding band that he was sure was lost forever. Gave it a 3% chance of finding but had me look anyway for closure. He estimated it was lost on a sandbar in the gulf about 50 feet off shore and within a 250 linear foot sandbar. I Started a grid and found it just about in the center of the area. Jason was attending to his baby back at the condo when I found it but the rest of his family and in-laws were watching my progress from the beach. Everyone was impressed with the recovery thinking that the search was a folly. Jason was extremely happy and I’m sure the rest of his vacation was regret free. Glad I could help!

Lost gold ring in water, Withlacoochee River, Hernando County Florida…found by Florida Ring Finder!

Bennie and his friends were enjoying the day along the Withlacoochee River swimming and taking turns swinging on a rope over the water. As Bennie let go of the rope he felt his gold ring come off of his finger and a sick feeling came over him. This was a very special ring given to him by his father 5 years ago and he has treasured it ever since. And now it had fallen into the depths of the silty river bottom! He and his friends tried diving down and feeling with their hands but the 8 foot depth and uneven bottom was more of a challenge than they could endure. Bennie called his mother and told her what happened and she went online and found Mr. Steve Thomas who is one of the Ring Finders in the West Florida area but unfortunately he only does shallow water and land searches so he recommended they call me to see if I could help them. After hearing their story I decided to meet them at the sight the following day. It was a 2 hour drive but we finally arrived and began setting up my PVC grid, my BLU3 Nemo dive system, mask, wet suit and fins. Bennie was very sure of where he and his ring fell into the water so down I went and began searching along my PVC grid that was setting on the bottom. The first 2 signals were deeper in the sand so I left them and the 3rd signal was louder on my hand held Pulse Dive unit and there sitting on top of the sandy bottom was Bennie’s lost gold ring! I really wanted to continue searching for other targets as the rope swing area was a favorite for the locals but I had noticed just before my entering the water that there was a group of people just waiting for me to finish up so they could enjoy jumping off of the tree and swinging on the rope…so I slowly ascended with Bennie’s gold ring tucked safely in my finds pouch. Bennie was intently watching me as I swam up to shore and as I smiled and gestured with a thumbs up…he began grinning from ear to ear! What a thrill it is to be able to conduct a search, find the lost item and then to return it to someone that is hurting and feeling a great heaviness and loss! And then to experience seeing them transform to happiness and joy and see more tears…only these are tears of sheer relief and thankfulness!

Earlier this week, I received a call from Michelle about a lost silver and gold ring in Avalon, NJ. Jane was enjoying a beautiful late afternoon with friends when a fun moment turned into a sudden panic.

 

While standing near the water’s edge, Jane was tossing clam shells into the ocean when she felt her precious silver and gold ring slip right off her finger. It was one of those slow-motion moments where you realize too late that something valuable is gone. Her heart sank as quickly as the ring did.

 

Thinking fast, Jane marked the area where the ring was lost by writing the word “HELP” in large letters in the sand. Smart move! This helped locate the spot with the metal detector a short time later.

 

Michelle and Jane were at beach, and she pointed out the area near the surf. We only had a short window of time before the incoming tide would wash away the sand and make the search more difficult, scanning the area with the metal detector.

 

After just a few passes, there was a strong signal. Digging carefully, scooped into the wet sand and there it was Jane’s silver and gold ring, safely recovered!

 

The look of relief and happiness on her face said it all. This ring wasn’t just jewelry—it held personal meaning and memories. Being able to return it was an absolute joy.

4-Day-Old Wedding Ring Recovered and Returned, Trunk River Beach Falmouth, Massachusetts

4 July 2025.  Jeffrey and Jocelyn had been married only 4 days when Jeffrey’s wedding band slipped into the ocean as he was scrubbing poison ivy from his fingers.  Fortunately Anthony and Anishaa, a couple for whom I recovered a ring last August at the same beach, were nearby and they heard his plight and told him to call me.  I was just returning from another call but was able to meet Jeffrey at the beach a short time later.  He was quite specific about where and how he lost his ring, so the search was straightforward and I made the recovery within a few minutes from cobbles and gravel in knee-deep water.  There were cheers all up and down the beach, and needless to say a huge smile from Jeffrey.  Anthony and Anishaa came over and we all had a mini-celebration/reunion.  It was great to experience this serendipitous circumstance where one Ringfinder success led to another almost a year later!

My immediately prior call was to find joined wedding/engagement rings thought to be lost in a 10′ x 10′ area of dry sand at a different beach.  I made a thorough search of the area as well as a wide, surrounding area with no result.  I explained that the ring must have come off somewhere else, perhaps in a bag or at another location before they arrived at the beach, even though the owner was certain that the beach location was correct.  As it turned out, they called later to let me know that they found the rings in front of their beach house where the owner had been putting on sunscreen.  The moral of the story: Memory can be tricky, so be sure to check out other possibilities, no matter how unlikely they may seem!
