Raoul called me and said he had dropped two rings in some tall grass in front of where he worked and could only find one of them. He had remembered seeing my Craig’s list ad and hoped I could help him. He also has and interest in the hobby and wanted some advice in choosing a detector. When I arrived, he showed me the small area in which the ring was located and I began to search. It was a relatively new industrial park and it was amazing how many signals there were in that small area. Most were junk signals but several were in the small gold ring range so there were a few to check out. After a pull tab and some scrap, I got a nice low tone on my E-trac and my pin pointer sniffed it out. You can see by the photo how well it blended into the grass. I’m surprised he eye-balled the matching band! It was a pleasure meeting you both and thank you for the reward.

Martin Ryan and family had enjoyed a lovely short break camping in Lulworth Cove recently. As Studland was only some half an hours drive away they decided to spend a sun drenched day on the beach.
Martin did remember paddling in ankle deep water, he also remembered walking to the toilets…many areas crossed his mind when later, to his horror he noticed the ring missing!
Like many rings there are out there, this one too was a family heirloom. It had been handed down to him through the older generations. He searched in vein for many hours but the soft white sand of Studland consumes money and jewelry hungrily! He had pretty much given up the ghost of ever finding it even though he had reported it lost to the local office.
After about five days of it being lost he took the initiative to try The Ring Finders.Com. I searched the exact location that same evening using photos he’d sent me of his families day on the beach.I knew the spot very well having spent six hours searching for another ring earlier that week-unsuccessfully. Within ten minutes, laying between shrapnel of ring pulls and foil, up popped the ring much to my delight! To save the family the long drive down from Cheddar I sent the ring post haste by special delivery. Mr Ryan and family were extremely grateful to have the ring back and made a generous donation to the air ambulance.

Last week I was given a phone number of a gentleman who lost his ring. This was a special ring, the father, Mike G., gave his 16 year old daughter an ounce of silver, she wanted to make a ring for him. After her labor of love, she was finished and she presented Mike the ring on Fathers day. Mike was wearing the ring when he went gardening, he planted 4 rose bushes and weeded 2 flower beds in his back yard then went down to his Wing Lake access to clear weeds and moss from the lake. Somewhere in one of these spots the ring came off. I gave Mike a call and arranged a trip to his home in Bloomfield Township near Detroit. It was a 300 mile round trip but I have made several of these in the passed 3 years. My partner Dave B. and I got to his house about 2 hours ahead of the appointment time so we could search the lake access first. It was my hunch that that is where he lost it as he was pulling weeds in the water. After 2 hours of a searching of an area of about 50 feet by 20 feet we came up with a lot of odd junk pieces and several coins. We bagged that up and gave it to Mike when we met him at his house. He proceeded to show us where he was weeding and we went to work. I took out my pro Pointer and went around all the flower plants to no avail then got my metal detector and started through the flower beds. Dave checked the weeds that were in the trash and then detected the yard. About 5 minutes into my search of the first flower bed I found what I thought was a piece of pipe it seemed to be too large for a ring. Cleaning it off I noticed it was sliver and it had a small what looked like a leaf on it. I motioned to Dave to look at it and  I said « do you think this is the ring »? It was indeed the ring after Mike’s confirmation of it. It turned out to be a happy day for Mike as he had not told his daughter yet that the ring was lost.

A few days ago I received a call from Lisa saying that she lost a ring at the beach in the dry sand. She removed the ring to apply lotion (should there be a warning label on those bottles?) and placed it on the cooler. Later, her husband grabbed the cooler and the ring went into the sand. We were able to mesh our schedules today and met across the street from the beach. It was on a nearby military base section so we rode together as the husband had the pass. The first signal was some iron junk that I didn’t bother to dig but the second one was the ring. I like those quick ones, especially since I’d been under the weather for a few days and wasn’t looking forward to a marathon today! It was a pleasure to meet both of you and your boy and thank you for the reward. Let the ring story continue along with the smiles!
