Lost Platinum Wedding Band in Backyard .. Whittier, CA. .. Recovered after Searching Two Weeks

*** Sergio spent two weeks searching his backyard lawn for his platinum wedding band. It was lost while he was cleaning his barbecue equipment on the lawn. 

I met Sergio at his home in Whittier, CA. the next morning after he called me. After walking into the back yard, he showed me where he had taken his ring off, setting it on a work table. Later his son came out to help his dad clean up. Sergio asked him to  spray off the barbecue grates, etc. which were on the same table as his ring.

Later that night Sergio realized that he didn’t have his ring on. Remembering that it was on the work table, he knew it must be in lawn. Using a flashlight in the dark the ring was not found that night. A couple days later he tried using a metal detector which was also unsuccessful. His last attempt was to pull all the grass from a 20 ft. x 20ft. area. After all that, he called me.

I grid searched the whole lawn several times with out getting a decent signal. Then used my detector to scan 4 bags of clumps of grass that had been pulled from the lawn. 

We had another talk about what other items may have been in the work area. As it could be possible the ring may have fallen into, then moved somewhere on the cement patio. Also the possibility the ring could have may have landed on the cement, rolling under or into another item on the patio. 

As a last resort we began a visual search. Boom! the ring was sitting in plain site on a shelf of one of three barbecues. It was 40ft. away from the location were Sergio had believed the loss occurred. The ring had been sitting there for two weeks, long enough to gather a ring of dust on the shelf where it had laid waiting to be found.

Sergio said he was surprised where the ring was found and couldn’t understand how it ended up in that spot. Nothing surprises me anymore about where these rings are found.

I dropped a ring in my kitchen, heard it hit the floor. Two weeks later I found it in my slippers which I had moved to the bedroom. I’m supposed to be a ring finder, two weeks?

Sunday morning I received a text from someone asking for some help in finding a ring that had been lost somewhere on the property around their house. They had just learned of my services and said it had been quite a few months. Of course I called to meet Katie as she explained in more detail the events that took place six months prior. 

On a nice summer day while preparing food in her kitchen she took her white gold ten year anniversary diamond wedding band off and slipped it into her pant pocket. They proceed to their patio grill where they also enjoyed their dinner over their deck. 

After dinner, Katie explained in great detail how she spent the next two hours working in her yard. She had been bending and moving quite a bit. I also learned that in the past she had also lost her driver’s license from this same stretch pant pocket. Fortunately, they found her license at that time. Hearing that other items had escaped this same pair of yoga pants provided a ray of hope that her ring did in fact fall out somewhere in the yard. I agreed to drop by her home after work for a quick visit and to at least get a good start on the search. Currently, at this time of the season, it gets dark rather quickly. Fortunately I have a lot of experience working my equipment in the dark and can still be quite successful.

When I arrive Katie was extremely helpful and to her credit, she did a wonderful job describing all of her detailed actions and movements through her yard. She also added that before she left her yard work that day while still standing outside she noticed the ring was no longer in her pocket. After hearing this key detail I immediately knew the percentage odds of her ring being in the yard went from medium to high probability. 

One of the things I like to ask is exactly when and where was the last time you had a clear memory of your ring and where did you notice it was missing. Placing some book ends around the period of loss can really narrow a search down to some priority hot spots to search before expanding out to other areas of possibility.

With some day light left I quickly got started searching in her front yard. Within an hour of searching in the dark I located Katie’s lost white gold ten year, ten diamond wedding band that had been in her from lawn for the past six months.

Brandon contacted me Sunday January 10, 2021 and said he had lost his white gold wedding band playing around in the rare snowfall we had. We agreed for me to come out Tuesday afternoon. I searched the back yard corner where his wife said he thought he lost it. She asked if  my detector could locate a gold ring. I replied, if it’s here I’ll find it. After about 5 minutes I located the ring. She wasn’t right there and she had a big smile when I looked up and showed it to her. I’m glad I was able to find your ring, and thank you for the reward!

Gold Wedding Ring Recovered – Raleigh

I got a call this afternoon from a distraught husband. He’d been out playing with his dog and « my ring just flew off my hand! » He said he had lost quite a bit of weight, so the ring was already loose on his finger — playing with the dog just provided the opportunity for it to come off. He knew exactly where he’d been standing and said he saw the ring fly off, heard it hit something, but then lost track of it. He had borrowed a friend’s metal detector to try and locate the ring, but had not had any luck figuring out the assorted beeps and buzzes from the detector, so we made arrangements to get together to find it.

The ring had been lost in a fenced-in kids’ playground area covered in wood mulch. Recreating the ring’s « flight path, » I started searching in a grid pattern, working my way further and further out. After maybe 20 minutes of searching and no ring, I started the search over again, back where he had been standing when it came off. It turns out that the ring had come off, hit a plastic barrier in front of him, and ricocheted back to land almost at his feet. Apparently in searching for it initially, he had pressed it down into the mulch as he walked around. Really glad to reunite the husband and his ring! Another Happy Ending!

Lost silver ring in Raleigh – Found!

I got a call from a mom whose son’s girlfriend had lost a silver ring. Although she knew it was in the side yard, she really didn’t have much more location info than that. The search took maybe 30 min (silver is usually very easy to find). Anyway, happy Mom and happy girlfriend! Another Happy Ending!

*** Memo called me, telling me his wife was upset because she had lost a ring in a city lake while feeding ducks. I assumed she had lost her ring but she had actually lost an hierloom ring that was Memo’s. A ring that had belonged to his father that was given to him by his late father.

The day of the loss, Joanna had taken the ring to have it cleaned. On her way home she stopped by the city park lake to feed the ducks. She was wearing the ring on her finger because she thought it was safest place to keep it. As she was feeding the ducks she felt the ring slip off her finger and heard it splash in the lake.

That night Memo returned to the lake with a flashlight spending a couple hours hoping he could recover the ring. The next day he had  a guy with a metal detector search the area without success.

I met Memo and Joanna the third day after the loss of his very sentimental ring. They were upset and losing hope of ever finding this ring. It was helpful to have Joanna there to show me the place she had been standing and how she was gently tossing bread crumbs with a underhand motion.

The lake has a cement bottom without metal rebar which was a good thing. On the other hand the cement bottom made it difficult to retrieve flat metal objects, like coins and pull tabs. I started by dragging a high power magnet through the 20’x 40ft area to remove all the ferrous metals. This lake is more than 50 years old and was surprisingly clean of trash except for many coins. 

I was able to get out to shoulder deep water using a 6” coil which is more efficient in areas with many metal objects which can mask a ring. My plan was to clear this zone before having to dawn my Nemo surface air supply for searching deeper water.

I started off using discriminating modes of my detector. Then I went to all metal mode to remove any signals that can interfere with the detection of the ring. It was a tedious search and time consuming, yielding more than 50 coins.

After more than three hours of searching the relatively small area. Joanna and Memo had been patiently standing by waiting and I’m sure they were losing hope that the ring would be found. They even asked me if I thought the ducks could have eaten the ring. 

Joanna was going to get us some coffee. Just after I told her what I would like. I took one more scoop to retrieve a signal and BOOM!! .. Big Gold and Diamond ring in the scoop.

Right away I told Memo to stop Joanna. I was finished searching. He looked confused why I said that. He said, why? That’s when I held out the scoop saying, because I found your ring.

It was a great reunion of this so sentimental ring. After three days of searching and looking at a real possibility of not finding the ring. Within seconds everything turned into a joyful moment for everyone, including myself.

What an awesome couple and a special pleasure to be able to help Memo and Joanna. A moment to remember forever.!!

Lost Gold Ring…FOUND by Good Samaritan and RETURNED to Rightful Owner!

A lot of us wonder if there are still good people left in this world.  I’m here to tell you that, yes there are!  I met one this morning…

I received a text message from a gentleman on January 3rd, 2021 for a lost ring.  He told me that on December 30th, 2020 he lost his 14K gold ring in the grass by the slides at Brahan Spring Park in Huntsville, Alabama.  He lives in Texas and was just visiting Huntsville for the holidays.  He asked what were the chances that his ring was still there.  I told him that it was still possible since grass can easily hide rings.  But since it was a public area, I needed to get out there ASAP and search.  I grabbed my gear and headed to the park.

Upon arrival at Brahan Spring Park, I sent a photo to confirm I was in the right location.  I immediately noticed that the grass was actually AstroTurf.  Unfortunately, there wasn’t much room for a ring to hide in this AstroTurf, because it was very worn down.  It had already been 4 days since the loss, but I remained positive and started my search.  There were areas around the slides where a ring could hide in some leaves.  I started looking there visually and with my Garrett Pro-Pointer AT.  No ring, so I decided to scan the AstroTurf with My Equinox 800 metal detector just in case the ring did happen to get pushed down or hidden in the seams.  Still no ring.

Across from the slides was more playground equipment with woodchips on the ground.  I decided to expand my grid over there in case his ring landed further than expected.  After a thorough search, still no ring.  I asked the gentleman if he had been anywhere else.  He said no, the grassy area was the only spot and he noticed his ring was missing when he left it.  We came to the conclusion that his ring must’ve been visually seen and picked up by another person.  He thanked me for my efforts.

When I got home from the search on January 3rd, I posted an ad in the Lost and Found section on Craigslist in hopes that it would be seen by the person that picked up the ring.  I also monitor the Lost and Found section on Craigslist for lost items that I may be able to help find.

A few days later, a Craigslist ad for a found gold ring was posted!  The ad stated that the gold ring was found on the AstroTurf near the slides.  They hoped to return the ring to its rightful owner.  I knew that this had to be the ring!  I contacted the poster, Luis, on January 9th and confirmed through a photo that this was indeed the gentleman’s lost 14K gold ring!  I’m so happy that he’ll be getting his ring back!  The gentleman had told me that he thought he would never see his ring again.  I immediately thanked the Lord for answering my prayers!

Luis lives in Hawaii and also happened to be visiting Huntsville for the holidays.  Wow, the journey this ring has taken is incredible!  The ring was lost and found in Huntsville, Alabama on December 30th, 2020.  The person that lost it lives in Texas.  The person that found it lives in Hawaii.  The ring is currently in Hawaii, but will soon be on its way back to the rightful owner in Texas.  Sorry if I confused anyone lol.

Good people still and will always exist.  So never give up hope!  I’ll try to add a photo of the owner with the ring when it gets back to him in Texas.  But for now, here’s a photo of me with a big thumbs up for The Ring Finders Directory!

LOST WEDDING BAND IN HACKBERRY , LA. – FOUND

John was from out of state, working to restore services to the Lake Charles area after the destruction of hurricane Laura. He was sweeping dried mud out of his truck seat when his white gold wedding band flew off his finger. He heard it hit some hurricane debris and before heading to parts unknown in the road ditch. He and a couple of fellow workers moved some of the trash and hand searched the area, No luck. He called Carrie and I the next day for help. Within 2 hours we were on site hunting. Since John had left his own metal detector back home, I lent him mine. After hunting for a few minutes he needed to head back to work and I started hunting. Within an hour, Carrie got a good signal in a thick clump of grass. Neither of us could see the source , so I had to cut and pull some blades of grass from the clump. We both got a visual at the same time. We messaged a picture of the ring to John and soon saw him drive up. Two people had checked that same clump the day before and had not seen the ring. Lots of smiles followed.

Lost ring in the water, Winter Park, Fl…Found and Returned to Owner!

Ashley and her fiance were enjoying a beautiful New Years day at the Meads Botanical Garden in Winter Park, Florida sitting on a concrete wall along a very picturesque stream. The sun filtered through the Cyprus trees and the breeze was cool and refreshing. The day and the setting were perfect for what Ashley’s fiance had in mind. After dating for nearly 9 years he thought it was about time he asked the « Big Question » and he had it all planned out. And while sitting on the wall along the edge of the stream with their feet hanging over the water, he reached into his pocket and pulled out the small box which contained a very special engagement ring. As he opened the box he was looking into Ashley’s eyes, hoping to catch her by surprise and all of a sudden he felt something bounce off of his leg and then he heard something fall into the water. Was it an acorn or something from above he thought? One look at the little box he was holding up to Ashley told him the horrible truth! Her engagement ring was not in it’s place and had somehow popped out when he opened it up. They were both dumbfounded and could not believe what had just happened and they desperately tried to figure out what to do next. Should they wade into the cold flowing stream and try to find it? Ashley was devastated and the thought occurred to her to call her father, Mr David, and ask him for advise. And wisely he told them not to try looking for it on their own for fear of pushing the ring further down into the sand and silt. Mr David promptly went on line to look for help and typed « How to find jewelry underwater » and that led him to theringfinders.com web site. He had his dear wife Mrs Debbie give me a call and we made plans to meet up the next morning at the Mead Garden entrance.

When planning for such a search I try and imagine what all I will need, weather it may be a wading search where I use a water proof metal detector and a long handled scoop along with a floating sifter or maybe I need to bring all my scuba gear including a mask and tank and a hose with weight belt and weights, etc. Sometimes a metal detector works well and other times I can only use a water proof pin pointer because of the underwater conditions like debris and thick aquatic vegetation.

The following morning we made our way down to the small stream and I was able to measure the depth and determine that I would need to suit up and set up my tank and hose. I was able to mark the wall to get an idea where to begin looking but I was not prepared for how cold the water turned out to be. Having lived in Florida for the past 30 years my blood has thinned out and this ol body likes to be warm. As I sunk down to the bottom and made my way along the wall I could not believe all the sticks and debris that had gathered in the exact area where I needed to search. I tried using my hand held Pulse Dive, 6 inch pin pointer but had trouble getting in and around all the sticks and branches. So I surfaced and changed to my Garrett Pro Pointer AT, which most detectorists refer to as the « Garrett Carrot » and that proved to be exactly what I needed. On each signal I would grab a handful of leaves and sand and debris and sift through it till I was left with the target. I found a few junk items and after 15 minutes of this grab and sift I grabbed my last handful and was a bit confused to see a small piece of white plastic sticking out between my fingers. As I shook away the silt I caught a glimpse of something round and shiney and low and behold there was Ashley’s brand new engagement ring with the little white tag still on it. You should have heard them all holler and yell when I came up out of the water holding that little beauty!
