Beautiful Gold Diamond Ring Lost & Found On Sandbanks Beach

Louise from Devon enjoyed a bite of luxury staying at the Haven Hotel, Sandbanks with her friend one weekend in June. It was the first time she had been away for years since losing her husband of 58 years & caring for him in his last seven. She doted on the ring he had given her all those years ago & was devastated to see it slip from her finger whilst swimming in the sea. Neck deep in water she could see it before it finally succumbed to the shifting sand, depth & waves.

Still upset it took 10 days for her to break the sad news to her daughter who took a chance to look for a potential miracle. When I received her call it was already 2 weeks since losing it in a notorious area of soft sand. Unsure of her exact position, difficult water depths to work in &  listening for the faintest signal made it seem a futile search. It was time to switch machines to the Whites Surf Master PI & patiently await a low tide..

During the following 2 weeks I spent 2 hours a time over five visits, digging over 100 holes. On my 11th hour, much closer to the shore the Surf Master gave a ‘Ghost Signal’. As usual I thought « another nail or bottle cap ». The signal grew stronger, passing 12 inches down a positive bleep and the from the blackened sand I caught a glimpse of gold! « A gold beer cap » I thought? Hurriedly I scooped again tossing the black dirty sand on to the shore. Proudly sitting on top in alls its crowning glory- there it was! I’m often asked ‘what’s the feeling like to recover something’? In this case utter relief, both physically & mentally.

I called Louise’s daughter Sarah to break the good news. So happy were they that the next day they drove an 8 hour round trip to collect it. I’m happy with every recovery I make but this one touched me more because of the sentiments the ring held. Later I was moved further when I learnt that Louise & Sarah had made a donation to the Margaret Green Animal Rescue beyond my furthest imagination.

When Danielle googled “how to find a ring in ocean” the search returned a blog from the ring finders (it was the first search result)! Then a search for Ring Finders Falmouth led her to my past blogs and contact information.

I received a call from Danielle with a tale of loosing a ring her dad given her 10 years ago. “I look up to and care deeply for my father and I also sentimental feelings in that the ring reminds me of home (where I’m from, in New Jersey).”

The ring was the second ring she had lost, the first was lost in an almost identical situation 10 years ago (playing football in the water at the beach). She vowed to never wear a ring again when doing that, and was pretty good for a number of years before she slipped up. This time the sea was at high tide and the waves were one footers. But I knew the beach and thought I could find it, if Danielle lost the ring where she thought it came off her finger.

I showed up and was getting ready for the search when Danielle and her friend Kelly showed up to point out the area. The help was instrumental in my finding of the ring. I had only minutes before the tide reached its peak height. I started to search as far out as I could go and worked my way toward the shore. I did not hear a signal until my 5th pass when I heard it – the sound that I was sure was the ring – and it was.

I did not remove the ring from my scoop, I left that to Danielle. It added just a bit more to the ordeal that I am sure will be remembered for some time to come.

Dana posted on several local Facebook discussion pages that she had lost her ring in her yard and needed to borrow a metal detector. Thankfully she was referred to me from a member of one of the groups who gave me another referral a few months ago. Dana contacted me and said that she was certain that she had lost her silver, blue diamond ring while mowing the grass and pulling weeds. As it turns out, Dana lived only about two minutes from me! We set up a search that same day and I began by checking some piles of pulled weeds in the front yard. I then moved to the back yard and began the gridding process using Dana’s mowing pattern. No luck in the back so we proceeded to the side yard and then to the front where she finished mowing. Dana was beginning to look discouraged because she was certain that the ring had slipped off her finger in the back yard and there was only a small patch of thick grass in the front yard left to be searched. Dana had followed me the entire time but went into the house for a moment to speak to her husband Will. Checking the last area, I hit that solid 28-29 I was looking for on my Nox 600 and immediately saw the ring. At the same time, Dana and Will came out of the house and I told them that I had found something they needed to see. You Ring Finders know what happens from that point on! Dana and Will, thank you for contacting me and trusting me to find Dana’s ring. And thank you for the generous reward!

Lost house and car keys

I got a call from Reece who explained that his bunch of keys had been thrown into a field full of 5ft tall stinging nettles in Crawley.
Arranged to meet up early this morning , where he explained how they had gotten thrown there , after half an hour fighting through the nettles my detector sounded off and a bunch of keys were hooked up in the nettles about 6” from the ground, Reece was extremely pleased to see his keys again ,  was great to see the expression on his face when I handed them back to him , another happy person reunited with their property thanks to ring finders .

Newlywed Couple Lost Wedding Band On Emerald Isle Beach Found After Thunderstorm

Dave & Maureen were enjoying a mini vacation on the beach of Emerald Isle, NC.  Dave placed his wedding band in his hat while he was swimming in the ocean.  When he returned, he put the hat on and the ring flew into the sand.  The newlywed couple searched for 15 minutes but got rained out by a thunderstorm.  Maureen texted me later that night and asked if I could search for the ring the following day or 2.  After learning the ring was very close to a public beach access, I was concerned another person would find Dave’s ring.  Even though it was getting late, they agreed to meet me as soon as I could arrive and begin the search.  Dave & Maureen remembered the area very well and this lead to my quickest recovery yet as my first signal was his ring and using a headlamp, part of the ring was visible in the sand at night.  I think I took 8-10 steps before finding his beautiful wedding band.  It was very pleasing watching Maureen & Dave celebrate the recovery!

Gold Stud Diamond Earring Lost in the Grass, Found and Returned Ocean Isle Beach, NC

Just before 2 p.m. Sunday, I got a text from Cori saying, “Jim! Hey it’s Cori in Ocean Isle! My earring fell off coming down our back steps. We cannot find it.” I called her and left a voice mail, and she called right back. I asked her if the earring was a gold stud and she said yes. I ask her to text me her address and I’d be there in 40 to 45 minutes. I had met Cori last year when she had called me for a neighbor who had lost a gold wedding band in a house fire.

When I arrived, she, her husband, and a couple of friends were in the back of the house. I made my way to the back yard and asked Cori what had happened. She showed me where she was standing on the stairs when the ring was dropped. She mentioned that she heard the earring hit the wooded steps before it disappeared into the grass. Lastly she said that they had been looking for it for about an hour. I grabbed my Gold Bug 2, and tested the matching earring while Cori held it in her hand. I got a good loud and clear signal. I started my search, took 2 steps and got a good signal. I got down on my stomach and started searching through the grass, without seeing the earring. I got up and took another couple of steps and got another good signal. Got down on my stomach again, and searched through the grass. This time as I’m gently spreading the blades of grass, I spotted her earring, upside down. All’s well that ends well!!

Wedding Ring Lost on the South Jersey Rugby Football Field Found By Dave Milsted

Chris sent me an email asking if I could help him. He lost his wedding band the night before while at rugby practice. I did a quick Google map search of the field, and it looked pretty barren. So I decided to walk the field before work. When I get there, the field was a solid grass carpet about 5 inches tall. It’s not going to be found by a quick walk.

There was a guy on the field with a human-powered push mower. I asked if his name was Chris. He looked at me with a concerned look, as I was in my work uniform, which makes me look like a police officer. He said yes, and I told him that he sent me a message that he lost a ring. There was relief on his face. He showed me the areas that he was in during practice, pretty much the whole field.

I told him that I wouldn’t get there until the weekend because of work and another recovery that I have today after work. He told me that his wife didn’t know he was at the practice, and he didn’t tell her that his ring was lost. They just celebrated their 4th anniversary a few days earlier.

I went to the beach that night to search for the other ring; I need to get into the water at low tide. There was a thunderstorm when I arrived and when the storm passed the ocean was angry. Large, powerful waves were kicking my butt. I couldn’t complete the search, so I will have to return.

I called Chris and told him that I would be at the field in an hour and 15 minutes if he wanted to meet me there. He said he couldn’t, that his inlaws were over, and he didn’t tell anyone that his ring was lost. He left the room when he saw that I was calling to answer the phone. I told him that I would spend about an hour there tonight, but it could be a several-day search because it is such a large field.

I knew where he placed his bag & drink. So I started there. No luck. So I started at 1 corner of the field and decided to search length-wise. I figured 1 down and back would take about an hour. There are a lot of targets. A lot of « can slaw »,  cans that have been cut up by a lawnmower, leaving many aluminum pieces.

I got about ¾ of the way down my 1st path, and I got a good tone. I located the ring with my pinpointer. I was amazed I found it in about 30 minutes. My mom must have helped. I took a picture and sent it to Chris. He called me back about 10 minutes later, just as I was getting in my car as the skies opened up. He was in total shock. He said after he got the picture, he told his wife what happened. He said he was going to be in the dog house if I didn’t find the ring.

We met the next day to return the ring. Chris said he was allowed to go back to rugby practice.

I love my hobby!!

I received a Facebook message from Lexi yesterday who asked if I could find her iPhone that was lost on the beach in Sea Isle City, NJ. I met with Lexi and Lucy yesterday afternoon and got the details. Lucy used the find my phone app to help find the approximate location.  A group of beachgoers graciously moved so I could expand the search out by 10 ft.  The phone was found buried a few inches under the sand.

Someone tagged me in a post on Facebook about a gold bracelet that was lost yesterday in Sea Isle City, NJ.  Pat didn’t realize his bracelet was missing until he was home later that day. He thought it may have gotten caught on his umbrella while packing up and dropped in the sand.  He gave me the area where he was sitting and it was recovered in around 20 minutes! Fence Line Dispute Settled, Property Markers Found – Loris, SC

I got a call from Leslie on Friday, July 30th, saying that I was referred to her by Joe Denton, local Minelab detector distributer. She needed to find a couple of property markers to settle a dispute with her Home Owners Association and wanted to know if I could help. I asked a couple of questions, got her address and agreed to meet her at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

I got to her house and we met in the driveway. We walked around the house to the backyard and she showed me the area in dispute. Leslie had everything ready; she had her plat survey, set up an umbrella to protect me from the sun, and some ice cold water. Surprisingly, there were no obstacles, like power lines, cable lines, metal fences or sprinkler lines in the area. And better yet, the end of one of the corner markers was sticking out of the ground. With that, it was just a matter of measuring off the distances between the markers from the plat. I used my Gold Bug 2 metal detector to find the rebar pole, dug a hole and pinpointed the actual poles. Leslie drove steel rods in the ground, sticking up about 6-8 inches, next to the markers. The two markers in question were found and marked, leaving Leslie a happy lady.
