Gold Wedding Ring Lost In The Ocean and Sand, Found In Ogunquit, Maine, With A Metal Detector

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

🚨 THE OGUNQUIT MIRACLE: A Sign from Above & A Mind-Blowing Connection! 🕊️🌊💍

On Saturday, July 3rd, I had just recovered a lost engagement ring on Mother’s Beach in Kennebunkport Maine , Maine.

As Cheryl and I were standing around talking to Lucy and her family about the recovery, my phone rang.

The caller identified himself as Patrick. He was at Footbridge Beach in Ogunquit, Maine: Beautiful Place by the Sea , and just an hour or so earlier, he had lost his wedding ring of nine years.

Patrick had been floating in the water when a large wave knocked him into the surf.

He was actually underwater when he felt his wedding ring slip off. He tried to grab it but couldn’t.

Patrick, his wife Kendra, Shaunna (Kendra’s sister), and her husband Pete immediately started searching the water, but it was too late.

The ring had disappeared into the surf and sand.

Patrick asked if I was available to search, and I told him I was less than ten miles away and would be right there!

Cheryl and I quickly said our goodbyes to Lucy’s family and raced to Ogunquit. It was now 6:20 PM, and low tide was in just two hours.

Time was of the essence before the tide turned back in and covered the search area. ⏳

⏱️ Racing the Clock at Footbridge Beach

Once we arrived at Footbridge Beach, we were promptly met by Patrick.

He walked us down to the area where his family had marked out boundaries and placed some « X » marks in the sand to see who would guess closest to the ring’s location.

The area to be searched was maybe 75’ x 100’, but my main concern was the tide. It was now 7:00 PM—leaving us only an hour and twenty minutes until low tide.

I decided to start the search at the lip of the sandbar, closest to the shore, where the ring was lost. I knew I could cover the entire area down to the low tide mark if I grid-searched parallel to the water from north to south.

The sandbar was extremely clean of targets—just a few pieces of small aluminum.

As I made my way toward the water, some of the family members thought I was too far out.

But Patrick, who was walking along with me, confirmed he had been out that far.

So, I kept marching toward the low-tide mark.

🎯 A Signal in the Sand & A Sign from Above

By 7:35 PM, we had only 45 minutes left before the tide would start coming back in.

Suddenly, I received the unmistakable sound of a low-conduction, non-ferrous metal—the exact tone of gold. 🎧✨

I told the group I couldn’t guarantee it, but I knew in my gut this was Patrick’s wedding ring. I held off on digging until everyone gathered around to watch.

I pushed the scoop into the hard-packed wet sand, threw it up onto the surface, and heard Pete yell:

👉 “Holy sht man, it’s right there!”*

He rushed over, pointing directly at the pile.
Kendra and Cheryl rushed in to get photos of the ring, still embedded in the sand.

Once Kendra saw it, she started to cry, releasing all the built-up stress and anxiety of the past few months.

Kendra and Shaunna’s father had sadly passed away earlier in the year. It was at his house in Ogunquit that the family had gathered for the first time since the funeral.

Emotions were already running high for the sisters, and losing the wedding ring had been deeply upsetting.

Kendra then told me something that gave me literal goosebumps.

Just seconds before I found the ring, a bird flew in circles directly around me and the exact spot where the ring was buried. Kendra was absolutely convinced it was a sign from her father. 🕊️❤️

📊 An Unbelievable, Serendipitous Connection

Patrick was taking in the entire emotional scene before he and Kendra, still crying happy tears, shared a long, loving embrace (See video posted yesterday).

What a beautiful sight to see. I was so incredibly happy that Cheryl and I got to be a part of it.

With a big smile on his face, I asked Patrick if he would like the honors of removing his wedding ring from the sand.

With a huge grin, he nodded and pulled it out.

As Patrick was cleaning it off, Cheryl told me something that was truly hard to believe.

While I was searching, Patrick and Cheryl had struck up a conversation.

Patrick mentioned that he and Kendra had just celebrated their 9th wedding anniversary a few weeks earlier.

Cheryl replied that we had also just celebrated our 9th anniversary.

After a few more questions, our jaws hit the sand.

🤯 We had gotten married on the exact same day and year as Kendra and Patrick 🗓️

Talk about a serendipitous connection!

What are the odds of that happening?

It is an incredibly rare, statistical anomaly. Absolutely unbelievable!

We meet all kinds of people from all walks of life doing this, and we always find some kind of common bond with our clients—but this one took it to a whole new level.

With the happy tears now turned into smiles and laughter, Cheryl and I walked off the beach in Ogunquit knowing, without a doubt, that we have the best job in the world. We love our job. 🥰

South Yarmouth Ring Returned By Rick Browne, Smuggler’s Beach

  • from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, United States)

July 8, 2026

This was to be my last search until I healed from a pending surgery. I sounded like a leisure walk in the sand. Finding a parking space in the hotel’s narrow parking lot was my first challenge then the door to the beach without shutting a door on the detector shaft or scoop. Now knowing the location of the beach a quick tip toe around other hotel stayer. Yes, the last obstacle behind me, a puzzled guest asks if I was looking for the women that had lost a ring. Of course, with that said, Kelley stood and waved.

After a few questions determined the best possible area. Six feet later one shallow scoop and the ring was on its way back to Kelley’s finger. A few pictures and a bit of information for the posting and I was on my way back home to rest up for tomorrow’s ordeal.

Sea St. Beach East Dennis, MA Holds Wedding Band Overnight

  • from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, United States)

July 5, 2026

The sky over Cape Cod was alight with sparkling showers and thundering reports from the barrage of sky rockets set off to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States and a 20th upcoming anniversary. Chandler had been enjoying it all until the moment he felt something hit his ankle while walking off the sandy beach. His wedding band had slipped off his finger while removing his cellphone from his pocket.

As is the case in so many such occurrences all the searching of a sandy area by hand proves fruitless. It is then time for professional help from a member of TheRingFinders.com. This is just what Chandler did. I received the call just as dinner was being served. I could have put off the search until the morning but it is always best to search as soon after a loss occurs. 7AM worked for me but not Chandler. OK, I have my dinner plate saved and I will reheat it when I get back from the beach, it would not have been a first for me and I could not let Chandler have a sleepless night, agonizing over the missing ring on his finger.

On my way to the beach I was delayed by a bad accident and a long detour as usually happens on Cape Cod. When I arrived at the beach Chandler was already there pacing the area where he felt the object hit his ankle the night before. A short conversation and the Best Guess area was marked off On my fourth pass I had my first signal which sounded very promising and it was. The ring I was searching for was in my scoop. A little shake to remove sand and I let Chandler remove the ring and place it back on his finger.

Two quick pictures, a short walk back to our cars and Chandler would make his evening engagement and I would be home in a half an hour and a reheated Chinese dinner.

Unusual Engagement Ring Lost In Hyannis, MA, Found and Returned By Rick Browne

  • from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, United States)

July 5, 2026

Fourth of July was over, but not the need for some help in finding an heirloom stone in a personally designed engagement ring. Ken put it in words that I could not match, so please read on.

“My wife Annie’s engagement ring was lost after we went in the ocean to throw a football around after the extremely hot Fourth of July fun run in Hyannis Port. We only noticed a few hours later, and Annie was distraught.
Other background information: I proposed to Annie with the ring on a beach in southern England four years ago, and we got married three years ago in Hyannis Port. We live in London, but come to the Cape every year.
It’s not your usual engagement ring – the sapphire stone was from Annie’s mom’s engagement ring, and it was passed onto me. We then designed the ring together in London, adding two diamonds alongside.”

My drive down a one lane road and wedging into a parking space were challenging. Annie, Ken and Margie met me, showed me to their private beach with two lines drawn on the sandy slope and told me the particulars of the loss. I then drew my markers about one quarter of the distance in from each of the original marks. And started a perpendicular pattern.

I heard a very deep signal and having been told of a class ring, lost about 20 years ago, I had to dig it. It was neither of the ring but rather a melted aluminum can. I kept on detecting and by the sound of the next signal in my headphone I knew I had a ring, Yes, a ring but one that I have never seen the likes of for an engagement ring. I had to go to Ken and ask if it was the engagement ring. Silly me for not asking what it looked like in the first place, before starting to search. I’ll have to remember that for future searches. Yes, it was the ring. I am so pleased I could live up to Ken’s expectations of performance.

Rick, again thank you so much.
We cannot express our gratitude enough.

We found your details on The Ring Finders, and could not believe our luck that a shallow water specialist for Cape Cod was based so close by. Annie’s best friend Margie contacted you, although we were sorry to disturb you on July 4th.

Once we read your blogs, we knew we were in the best possible hands for having any chance of finding it.

We are so thankful.

Cape Cod, Yarmouth, MA Ring Finder Found Lost Cartier Love Bracelet and Returns it

  • from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, United States)

July 3, 2026

The 4th was nearing, the temperatures, both air and water, were on the rise as were the crowds on Cape Cod beaches. I was taking an Ice Tea break from chores that needed doing around the house when the phone rang. The caller, Megan, told me of a lost, very sentimental, bracelet in waist deep water and the tide was coming in. I had no choice but to go immediately and I did.

I arrived at the beach and was told of 14 coins dropped around the area where the loss occurred. I did not waste much time in the usual chat before I begin searching. I had the area pointed out, and the coins to help me zero in on the exact area to search. Over an hour of searching and I started having doubt in my detector and the area I been shown as I had not found a single coin. It had to be a faulting detector. I made a quick dash back to the car for my back-up detector. Another half hour and still no coin, the tide had crested and now was on its way out. The family crowd nearing twenty began packing up and heading home for dinner.

I was determined to find the coins dropped and the bracelet. I had been shown a matching bracelet and I knew the coins were quarters. How could I be missing that many targets? It had to be the area was further off shore than I had been told. Just before Megan left I found a quarter. I now had to stay for the tide to recede and I did. Another half hour and I had half the coins, Thinking I had located another I took a scoop and there it was the gold Cartier Love Brace and a quarter so I thought. A quarter, yes, but no bracelet. How could it have gotten out of the scoop, was I imagining seeing the bracelet? After 4 hours of getting beat by the waves my mind probably was playing a trick on me. I took another scan of the area at my feet there was another target and there it was the bracelet, but only a half a golden circle. Had I broken it in half while scooping for the target? How was I going to tell Megan? Where was the other half?

While I was continuing my search, now in chin deep water, a mother and two young children returned to the beach bringing me a Thank You note and a box of sweets for my efforts. But I was not going to leave the target area I was in until I had the other balf of the bracelet and it paid off. Two more quarters and the other half of the bracelet was retrieved and safely resting in my goody pouch. Persistence and a lower tide was all it took to almost complete the story. But first a few details of the bracelets history that Megan sent to me. Read on and you will learn why I am so persistent and one of the World Wide Group TheRingFinders.com.

Rick!

We cannot thank you enough!!!!

Added for the Cartier Love Bracelet Story: My dad passed away 6 years ago and the last piece of jewelry he bought my mom (Karen) and me were matching Cartier Love bracelets …while playing in the ocean with her grand kids one of her grandsons pointed out that he saw her bracelet fall off the side of the float they were on- all family members immediately got in the water to help her look but had no luck- I found your information online and called after about an hour … and well you know the rest!!

Good Luck with tomorrow’s engagement ring search!

Wedding Band Missing, Longbranch NJ, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

  • from Lavallette (New Jersey, United States)

Long branch New Jersey ring recoveryJersey Shore ring Finder Around 1:00 in the morning, I noticed an email on my business page from Omar about a lost ring. I sent him a quick text to get some basic details and asked him to give me a call since it would be much easier to discuss everything over the phone.
Omar explained that they had spent the day at the beach, and his ring had disappeared. He believed it was either where they had been sitting or somewhere along the mid-slope down near the waterline. Since low tide was approaching overnight, I told him I’d head out first thing in the morning in case the ring had already started moving toward the surf.
When I arrived, I used the photos Omar had sent along with the beach access paths to line everything up. The tide was nearly at its lowest point, giving me the best chance of success. I began searching the entire area where he believed the ring had been lost, carefully covering the slope from top to bottom. Despite a thorough search, I wasn’t finding anything.
Something kept telling me to move a little farther south. Trusting my instincts, I shifted my search just a couple of paths over. Almost immediately, I got a deep, solid signal. One scoop later, there was Omar’s ring resting safely in the bottom of my scoop.
Omar was beyond happy to get his ring back. This recovery is another great reminder that calling NJ Ring Finder as soon as possible gives you the best chance of a successful recovery. Getting to the beach before the tides and crowds have a chance to move or bury a lost item can make all the difference.

Lost Earring Found on 12th Street Beach in Ocean City, NJ by Ring Finders South Jersey John favano

Lost Earring Found on 12th Street Beach in Ocean City, NJ

When Kathy called, she was understandably upset. While enjoying a family day on 12th Street Beach in Ocean City, NJ, she realized one of her sentimental stud earrings had disappeared in the sand. Unlike their usual beach spot, the family had chosen a different street that day, making retracing their steps even more challenging.

I arrived about 20 minutes after receiving the call. After gathering the details about where Kathy had been sitting and the last time she remembered wearing the earring, it was time to get to work.

Stud earrings are among the most difficult jewelry items to recover. Their small size allows them to disappear deep into the sand, making them nearly impossible to locate without professional metal detecting equipment and an organized search pattern.

Using specialized metal detecting equipment designed for finding small jewelry, I carefully searched the area. Within just a few minutes, I received a promising signal. After a careful recovery, there it was—Kathy’s sentimental stud earring, safely back where it belonged.

Seeing the relief and excitement on Kathy and her family’s faces made the day even more rewarding. Recovering sentimental jewelry is about much more than finding a valuable item—it’s about restoring memories that can’t be replaced.

If you’ve lost a ring, necklace, bracelet, earring, or other precious jewelry on the beach in Ocean City, NJ, don’t wait. The sooner a professional search begins, the better the chances of a successful recovery.

Newlywed’s Wedding Band is Lost in Rough Currents And Found With Metal Detector

  • from Emerald Isle (North Carolina, United States)

Noah’s wife reached out to me saying her husband « had lost his ring at Emerald Isle and was very upset ». After getting a few details, I headed over as quickly as I could to the public access they were visiting.  When I arrived at the beach, strong waves were driving a powerful current along the sloped shoreline, and high tides were breaking over the slope, making the search tough. After a few passes in the water with no luck, I spotted Noah farther west in the water. He waved for me to try where he was, and just after he moved to shore, BAM! My XP Deus II gave a loud, clear 76 signal. The current was so strong that when I pulled my scoop from the sandy bottom, all the sand washed away, leaving only Noah’s large gold wedding band.

Heirloom Penny recovered in Minneapolis Metal Detecting

  • from Twin Cities Metro (Minnesota, United States)

Robb was out in his yard working when his neighbors dog came up to his fence. Robb went over to pet the puppy and when he reached over the chain link fence, his necklace caught onto it and broke. He had 3 pieces on the necklace with the most important by far being a 2020 memorial penny he had saved as a remembrance to his brother that passed away in 2020. He found the other 2 pieces right away, though after hours of searching he nor his wife could find the penny. Robb went to the local metal detecting shop and asked them for help. Years ago I had stopped into that very shop and told the owner about theringfinders.com and gave them my card if anyone was ever in need of assistance. He gave Robb my number and I told him I’d be out to his home the next morning. I could see the area where Robb & his wife had been searching and I figured the coin would be close to the metal fence. This creates a big issue as our metal detectors will pick up the fence and mask out the sound of the penny. I turned my sensitivity down to a very low setting and started swinging away. I got a couple decent hits though they were in the ground a couple inches, my third hit was loud and solid. The penny was only 5 inches from the fence, but my Minelab Manticore handled it like a champ.

So glad I could help you out Robb, I know how important this was to you.

How to find a lost ring with a metal detector in Vancouver, BC.

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Lost Ring, cell phone, keys… Call ASAP/Chris Turner – 778-838-3463  24/7 Service

I received a call in regards to a Lost Ring that fell between the cracks of a balcony over the water. You can imagine how he must’ve felt when he felt the ring come off and fall between the cracks. You see Nick was only married 2 weeks ago! and that’s where the story begins. He & his wife and some friends spent hours under the patio, looking in big rocks, barnacles and fighting the tide that was coming in. This was an extremely difficult area to search because the size of the rocks and the voids between them left so many places where this ring could’ve fell down into and out of sight.

When I arrived, I assessed the area, It was on a 60° slope and hard to stand sometimes. I started with my Metal Detector and I was hitting knives and forks that were dropped from the restaurant up above also a few coins. I quickly decided that there was to much trash and it could be deeper than what my detector could find.

I changed to a headlight and started grid searching up and down the slope and looking in every crack & crevice. After approximately two hours, I caught a glint of what looked to be gold, about 15 inches down in a crevice. I carefully removed the top rocks and there it sat waiting to be found, and it was sitting right beside another crevice that it could’ve gone deeper and out of sight so I was very fortunate that it was there for me to find… I love my job!!!
