Men’s Gold Pinky Ring Lost in the Front Yard…FOUND Harvest, Alabama!

On Sunday afternoon (December 5th, 2021), I received a call from a distraught Kathy regarding her son, Cain’s, lost gold ring.  The 14K yellow gold pinky ring was a cherished, early Christmas gift for Cain.  He was only wearing it for about 3-4 hours before it was lost.  Cain had stepped outside into the front yard and saw the ring on his finger.  It was loose fitting, so he thought that he should take it off until it could be resized.  Cain forgot about it and tossed 2 items in the yard, went inside the house, came back outside, and noticed that the ring was gone!  The family went out and bought a metal detector, but was unable to find the ring.  They came across The Ring Finders website while searching online for a detector.  They decided that contacting a Ring Finder would be their best option to find Cain’s missing gold ring.

This was actually my closest ring search.  They literally live less than 10 minutes from me.  I was onsite within 30 minutes from my call with Kathy.  I met with Cain, and he showed me the area he was standing and the motion he used to throw the 2 items.  The first toss was underhand, towards the street.  The second toss was sideways at Cain’s right side.  He was wearing the ring on his right pinky finger.  Cain didn’t see or feel the ring come off, but he thought it would’ve fallen off on the first toss towards the street.

I started my grid search in the direction of Cain’s first toss.  I then searched the direction of Cain’s second toss.  Next, I expanded my search across the street in the neighbor’s yard.  Then I searched the left side of the yard.  I was coming up empty handed and was very perplexed.  I had expanded my grid search 360 degrees and didn’t find Cain’s ring.  I even searched the yard a second time using a cross-grid just to be sure.  I was discussing all the possibilities with Cain and asking more questions to see if he had any other ideas of where his ring could have ended up.  Cain mentioned a signal he had on the metal detector he bought, but was never able to find out what it was.  It was over near a cane palm tree.  We went over and checked it out, but it turned out to be a false signal.

I then remembered the way Cain reenacted the second toss.  It was to his right side, but there was a slight chance that his ring went behind him and to the corner.  I did check the grass by the house in that direction, but I didn’t check the flower bed/shrub area.  It seemed very unlikely that his ring went that far and in that direction, but I’ve been doing this long enough to know that rings sometimes end up where they shouldn’t be.  I went over and started searching the flower bed.  Sure enough, I get a shallow gold tone.  I bend down to check the signal and there’s Cain’s gold ring!  It was lying next to a hose, just slightly covered up.  Cain was behind me and didn’t realize that I found his ring.  I called him over in a normal voice and asked, “hey, what’s this?”  Cain looks down to investigate and quickly realized that it was his ring!  Such a joyful moment and the exact reason why I do this!

I give so much praise and glory to God for this ring recovery!  This search had the potential to be a no find.  I’m so thankful that we searched that last possibility, even though his ring shouldn’t have been there.  It must’ve taken the perfect path or bounce through the shrub to land at that spot.  Another great reminder to check every spot possible no matter the odds.

I’m so happy that Cain has his treasured gold pinky ring back!  I’m very blessed to be a member of The Ring Finders!  I await my next mission…

Puzzle Ring Returned Mass

Today I was called to my home town to help relocate a lost ring, it had been on Mikes finger since 1971. He purchased the ring while in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.  It was a beautiful 6 band 18 k Yellow Gold Puzzle Ring.  He was working in the yard, doing his annual Fall raking, when at the end of the day, he noticed it was missing.  Desperate to get it back, He googled Lost Ring and my name showed up, he gave me a call in hopes that I could somehow help find it in amongst multiple bags of leaves. I got his info and left immediately,  When I arrived at Mikes place, I had him dump each bag on top of the tarp one at a time.  Still no luck, moving into the yard I gridded the yard slowly, and again no luck.  Almost ready to call it a day, I asked one last question about the trash can and did he use it. Yes he replied, that he had removed his gloves and put them on top of it.  I walked over and swung once,  and that familiar low tone rang louder than ever, there it was staring up at me.  I had Mike come look at it, and he ran and tripped up the stairs yelling for his wife to come out and have a look.  She said I had that look on my face like I found it.  Lol.   I said yes I did.  After a few pictures and lots great stories, I was invited to take a ride in his private plane, and you bet I will take him up on it.  Congratulations Mike, on that special ring.

Lost Platinum & Diamonds Ring at Waikiki Beach…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I received a call from Cherie who was on vacation from San Francisco and staying in Waikiki. Her boyfriend had just bought her earlier that day a Platinum and Diamonds Ring. While sitting on the beach, a sudden movement of her hand and the ring fell into the sand and disappeared. With her friends, the four of them combed the sand with no luck. Cherie’s friend Frank agreed to meet me at the Waikiki Police Station so he could show me where they were on the beach. It was dark already. When I arrived Cherie drew a box in the sand where she thought the ring would be and I started my hunt. After ten seconds I got my first target a loud « 7 » on the Nox. One scoop and after sifting all the sand the tiny Platinum & Diamonds Ring was lying in the bottom of the scoop. I reached in and retrieved the ring and handed it to Cherie. I heard a sigh of relief from all her friends and sincere « Thank you so much » from Cherie. Some pics and hugs followed and Cherie can enjoy the rest of her vacation. Off to Maui tomorrow. Lost Silver heirloom earring…Found in Hillyard Wa.

I think no matter what, when a Ring Finder hears of a lost piece of jewelry they receive an overwhelming feeling to jump in and help. Now place yourself in front of your mother and imagine she’s lost an inherited silver earring. In my mind mountains will move to recover what my mom lost. Luckily no mountains were involved just a really old house and the heater vent. After taking her earrings over to the hutch they have in their bathroom, a place she admitted she has never used to put on her jewelry. One of the blue opal silver earrings fell off the hutch and slipped effortlessly through the grates of the heater vent. So that’s where I began my search. I used my borescope to investigate the 90 degree bends of the duct work. When I spotted the earring I tried multiple attempts at grabbing it, sticking it with tape on a string and tape on a wire. All attempts failed at retrieving the earring but I did manage to collect a lot of lint and debris. I did not want to give up so Dad and I headed to the basement. I crawled into the crawl space and began to decipher the maze of ducting. Matching the orientation of the heater vent on the top side I disassembled the duct work to reveal mom’s earring. Now back to using the long grabbing tool I was playing the claw machine game in my parents basement. This time I didn’t need any quarters just a steady hand and a bright flash light.  » I got it » I shouted and handed the earring up through the hole in the floor to my mom. Usually strangers are calling us for a last ditch attempt to recover a lost item. But this Ring Finder’s call was close to my heart and my home.

Lost Gold & Diamonds Engagement Ring at Royal-Moana Beach Waikiki…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when my fellow ring finder Don referred me to Pratibha from Reading, Pennsylvania. While enjoying a Monday morning at Royal-Moana Beach in Waikiki Pratibha took her ring off and put it in her purse so she could go for a swim. She told me her purse fell down into the sand and her husband unaware the ring was inside cleaned off the purse. They went back to their hotel room and then realized that the ring was missing. She placed a police report and informed the shop owner nearby where they rented a chair from. Fearing the amount of time that went by and how much that beach gets detected I told her the odds would be slim that the ring would still be there. I agreed to meet Pratibha at the Waikiki Police Station during my lunch break and do a quick search to see if we would be blessed. When I arrived the beach was packed with tourists but I did the best I could hunting around them and many were so nice to move their chairs and help. I found six pull tabs and a nickel that made me think we just might find the ring. Then one gentlemen in an area we needed to search refused to move and was just a knucklehead about it. Thankfully the lady next to him said here let me move my stuff and let you search here. Right where she removed her slippers from I got a loud #13 on the Nox and in one scoop there was Pratibha’s beautiful ring in my scoop. I showed the ring to her husband as he was helping me on the beach and he shouted, « Oh my gosh that’s the Ring! » It was getting hot and I was much relieved that we got blessed and the knucklehead didn’t have to be bothered. Lost Stunning 7 Carat Diamond and White Gold Ring at Nai’a Lagoon…FOUND!!!

This ring find began while I was driving home from work when Brandon from California said his Mom, Miriam, just lost her ring on the Nai’a Lagoon Beach and they couldn’t find it. He wasn’t sure if it was in the dry sand or the water but he assured me they knew the exact areas I would need to look. I told Brandon I’d grab my gear and come down to search but rush hour traffic was just starting and it could take a hour. I told him to have everyone just relax on the beach and if the ring was there I would find it. When I arrived I headed down to the beach and was greeted by Miriam’s wonderful family. I gathered some details. Miriam explained she was playing with her grandchildren in the sand and the water but wasn’t sure exactly when the ring came off. We moved the beach chairs out of the search grid and I fired up the Nox. I immediately found a nickel and a cent. Then on the fourth leg of the grid I got a nice #7 on the Nox and amazingly it took two scoops to reach the target. When I looked in the scoop I could not believe my eyes…that was the biggest Diamond I had ever seen. I showed Miriam and she screamed with joy. The whole family was rejoicing and that was certainly a moment I will never forget. I Love this Hobby! Much Aloha to Miriam and her beautiful family!

FOUND…Men’s Tungsten Wedding Band Lost While Throwing Acorns Houston, Alabama!

On Sunday afternoon (November 21st, 2021), I received a call from Drew regarding his lost Tungsten wedding band.  Drew had just gotten married 8 days prior and was on his honeymoon at a lake house in Houston, Alabama.  Not used to wearing a ring, Drew was fidgeting with the wedding band and moved it over to his pinky finger.  He was throwing some acorns when the ring flew off his finger into the leaves next to the walkway leading down to the lake.  Drew spent a good amount of time looking through the leaves, but was unable to locate his ring.  Realizing that he would need a metal detector to find it, he went online to rent or buy one.  That’s when Drew came across The Ring Finders, a metal detecting service that he didn’t know existed.

When I received Drew’s call, I was actually in the process of wrapping up a metal detecting hunt I was on with some friends.  I had a quick bite to eat and was on my way for the 1.5-hour trip out to Smith Lake in Houston, AL.  I met with Drew and his wife, Sidney, at the lake house.  They took me down to the area where Drew was tossing the acorns.  The walkway was fairly steep, so we were hoping that the ring didn’t land further down the hill or in the water.

I began my search with my Minelab Equinox 800 at the spot they thought his ring had landed.  Within a matter of minutes, I had located Drew’s missing Tungsten wedding band!  It was a quick search to find his ring; however, it was nearly impossible to locate it without the help of a metal detector.  I was wearing black detecting gloves and we couldn’t see the black colored ring in my hand when I first picked it up with some leaves.

Drew and Sidney were actually leaving the lake house the following day heading home to Columbus, Mississippi.  If Drew’s wedding band wasn’t found that Sunday when he called me, then he’d have to make a trip back out to find it.  Thankfully, that wasn’t necessary.  I give thanks to the Lord for another safe trip and successful ring recovery!  I look forward to the next adventure…

Lost Gold & Diamond Bronx Community College Ring at Ko Olina Resort…FOUND!!!

I was on my last few minutes of a Monday 8 November morning hunt with only a Silver « ALOHA » ring and trash when this Bronx Beast jumped in my scoop. 16.5g of 14k. Mr. Castillo I’ll gladly return your ring just tell me your first name and middle initial, I posted on my Facebook Metal Detecting Oahu page.
Update!!!
This Oahu Island just got infinitely smaller. While at dinner last night I told my daughter, “You should see the chunky gold ring I found at Ko Olina this morning.” “As she was looking at the ring I said, “It probably belongs to a tourist from Bronx NY” I told her it had the name Jorge S Castillo engraved inside. She looked at me in disbelief and said, “Dad that guy works in my shop at the Shipyard.” I’m like, “No way!” Sure, enough she texts a few friends at work and they confirm his name spelling. Unfortunately, he’s on vacation. So, we are planning a surprise reunion of the ring back to the rightful owner. I’ll post a pic when that happens. How cool is that! Also thanks for all the advice Equinox 600 – 800 group.

Yard-Work Gone Wrong in King of Prussia PA, Gold Ring Found by Dave Milsted

Justin called this week asking if I could help find a lost ring. He is pretty sure he lost in his yard while doing yard work. This isn’t the first time I have talked to Justin, he called last year when he lost the same ring, in his house. I told him that I couldn’t use my detector in the house but I will do a visual search. After giving him some tips for a house search he found the ring. 

Our calendars allowed a Halloween search. He showed me the primary area. He was wearing gloves at the time but took them off a few times. He threw stuff into a trash can, but the trash wasn’t taken yet, in case we need to search the debris. The ring is not in the gloves. I checked the bag of grass seed that he was using, no ring. 

I turned on my detector and immediately started getting severe electronic interference. I did a noise-canceling procedure, a few times, and even did ground balancing. No luck. This just made the search a lot more difficult. I searched the whole area with no luck. I went to my truck and retrieved another detector with a much smaller coil. Still receiving the same interference. Maybe this was a testing site for nuclear bombs, or his yard is on top of an iron mine. 

The smaller coil was successful. After about 15 minutes I got a really strong 9 on the detector, pushed back the grass and there was a beautiful family heirloom. No tricks here only treats! This yellow gold ring with 3 diamonds was his father’s ring. Justin was awestruck & speechless. After a few minutes, he said he just texted a good friend saying that he thinks he is not going to see his ring again. 

I gave him some advice, when doing yard work, leave the ring in the house. He told me he was going to clean out the garage after I left, But he will not be wearing his ring. 

I love my hobby!

Yard-Work Claims Another Gold Wedding Ring, In Mt Laurel NJ (Temporally)

Cindy, a grade school classmate of mine, recommended me to a friend of hers. Cindy’s friend’s husband Bryan lost his white gold wedding ring while doing yard work last weekend. 

I was able to meet up with Nichole today to do a search. She showed me the areas he was working last weekend. I started in the small area in the front yard with no luck. I moved to the much larger area in the backyard. A lot of leaves and thick grass made a great hiding spot for a ring. 

I searched just about the whole backyard with no luck. I was going to get my machine with the smaller coil to search the areas closer to metal objects. While walking back to my truck I said to myself I should expand the search area in the front yard. 

3 feet from the area I searched I get a good hit on my detector. I bend down and spread the grass, and there is the missing ring. I was able to surprise Nichole when she answered the door. She was so happy, she said she was going to get the ring resized before Bryan can wear it again. He has lost it a few times recently.

I love my hobby!
