Platinum Engagement Ring Lost at High Tide, Found and Returned North Myrtle Beach SC

I got a call from Ashley about 8:15 pm saying she had lost her engagement ring between 8th Ave and 10th Ave South and wanted to know if I could help. First thing I asked her was if she could narrow the distance down some, 2 blocks is a large search area. She narrowed down to around 9th Ave S. I then asked what time and how deep she was in the water. She said between 5-5:30 and ankle. Perfect, she was right at high tide. I told her I could be there in 15 minutes.

When I got to their rental and got out of the car, she met me in the driveway. She told me that a friend suggested she call Donnie, who he had worked for. I told her that Donnie was my son-in-law and had helped me before. Ashley and her finance, Cole walked me out to the beach and out to where Donnie was detecting. I told Donnie that Ashley had called me, but this was his search. We agreed that we’d split the beach in half and I’d go north and he’d take south. He had already done a north/south grid search down the slope, which cut out a lot of the area. I started an east/west search from his last grid line out to about thigh deep. After just a few minutes, I got a solid 10 VDI on the Equinox 800 which is what a platinum ring would show up as. When I met up with Donnie on the beach, he also had one of my granddaughters, Maris with him. When I started digging the target she came over with a flashlight. I got the target out of the hole and spread the sand out on the beach. I asked her for the flashlight, and then realized it was a pinpointer. I stuck the pinpointer in the sand looking for the target. As I found the target and pushed the ring out of the sand, Maris said “There it is!!”  This was her first ring recovery. She was so excited you’d think it was her ring we found. I gave the ring to Donnie to surprise Ashley when we got back to the rental. He got her, she was very happy. At some point she told me that they were getting married Sept 6th.

2nd LOST CLASS RING FROM WHITE LAKE, NC…….. RETURNED!!!!!!!

While metal detecting I found not one but two class rings about 30 feet apart. After getting home, I was able to find the owner to one and the brother to the owner of the other. I was able to get them to agree to mee up with me at the same time and do a « DOUBLE CLASS RING RETURN ». I have never done a double ring return before and it was AWESOME!!!!

I love being able to reunite a lost item back to their original owner who thought they would NEVER see it again!!!

This ring belonged to a girl named Nanda and she lost her ring 6 years ago! She was devastated and heartbroken! Today, in her own words…. « YOU MADE MY LIFE, NOT MY DAY, MY WHOLE LIFE » You just can’t beat this feeling of returning a lost item!

1st LOST CLASS RING FROM WHITE LAKE, NC…….. RETURNED!!!!!!

This ring belonged to a girl named Brittney and she lost her ring 14 years ago! Her brother Lane met me to receive it so the family could take it to Brittney! I will update/upload a PIC of Brittney holding the ring once I receive it!

Sentimental Sterling Silver Ring with Green Emerald Lost in the Ocean, Found and Returned Ocean Isle Beach NC

I got a call from Nancy saying she had lost a very special ring with a green emerald stone in the ocean. She said the emerald had belonged to her grandmother and had been passed down to her. She also stated that she had lost it about 30 minutes prior and she was right at the water line. I knew this was a race against the incoming tide; I got a few more details and told her I’d be there in about 45 minutes.

When I got there, I met Nancy on the beach and she showed me the area. It was maybe 10 feet across and as far out as I could take it. Unfortunately the sea breeze had kicked up and the ocean was hitting the 2nd breaker with a lot of force. I started a grid search going north and south perpendicular to the beach. After, maybe 5 lines, I called it. Between the waves and the current I was having a rough time keeping my grid lines straight and just getting knocked around. I told Nancy I’d be back around 5, thinking once the tide made its turn at 2 pm I’d have 3 hours with an outgoing tide.

I got back about the time I said and Nancy was waiting. I started my grid search and after an hour and a half and covering the suspected area, I was coming up empty. So, the next step was to extend the area north and south and start over. After another forty-five minutes to an hour, I was working my way back up the middle of the search area towards the high tide line. I got a solid 21-22 on the VDI, which is what I was looking for on a Sterling Silver item. I dug the target out of the hole, spread the sand with my foot and there Nancy’s ring sat. After I found it, I tried to figure out how I missed it the first time. Looking at my grid lines, none of them were straight and all curved to the right. There is no other explanation, other than I missed it the first go through. I took a picture and sent it and a text to Nancy saying “BOOM.” She called me a short time later, not believing it was found. I dropped it off at her house on my way home. She was extremely happy and thankful that she got both her ring and her grandmother’s emerald back.

Barnstable, MA: Cape Cod Beach, Wedding Band Found and Returned

August 6, 2023 was what began as a great afternoon of boating on Cape Cod Bay turned into a fretful time of searching for a wedding band that had slipped from Zach’s finger after only 2 months of being worn. Zach tried diving in 9 feet of water to find the ring but lacked the ability to hold his breath long enough to do much searching under water. When the tide went out and the area was void of water he and others tried using a metal detector and “eye-ball” searching with no success.

One of Zach’s friends suggested he call J&E Enterprise, a metal detector dealer for suggestions. Eleanor offered up my name and number. Zach then called me. The tide was about ¾ full and I knew I could not detect in the 9 foot deep water and made arrangements for an early morning meeting when the tide would be down to only waist deep.

The morning came with storm alerts on the NOAA radio. High winds, heavy rain and possible tornadoes were on the horizon for Cape Cod area. The sky was a bit overcast at 7:30AM but otherwise it looked like the beginning of a wonderful day. I took a chance and left the safety of my home and was off to meet up with Zach, After the introduction and being shown were the over-size ring slipped from his finger I was in the water searching in a grid pattern. About 45 minutes of searching with only one other signal I located the wedding band.

I left the ring in my detecting scoop and headed out of the water, back to where Zach had been standing. He thought I had given up searching and I said yes, there is no need to search any further. I then put the scoop in front of him so he could see the ring in the scoop and retrieve it for himself. I love the emotions people show when their lost item has been found and is being returned. Even bystanders are amazed and become elated as they watch and add congratulations.

Zach’s wife was home and had offered up a bit of advice when she was told of the “loss”. That was “do not tell your mother until after TheRingFinder does his search.” While Zach was talking to Kelly I texted her a picture of the return. Yes, it was a wonderful feeling to be part of this story that ended with smiles that spread between Zach on Cape Cod and his wife several states away.

OH, I must add that the weatherman was correct. Two hours after I arrived back home the NOAA alerts started coming in every few minutes, Then the wind, rain, and lightening engulfed our area. There were two tornadoes in our area. One EF1 touched down about 30 miles and the other an EF0 was only 5 miles away. There was physical damage to homes and property but no human injuries. Both Zach and I were among the lucky ones this morning.

Jonny had lost his custom-made wedding band in the ocean just a day earlier, while spending time in Sea Isle City, NJ. He was wading in waist-deep water when he suddenly felt the ring slip off his finger. The following afternoon, Jonny contacted me for help, and we met up shortly after. Equipped with my waterproof metal detector, I began our search for the precious ring. About an hour later, out in the surf, the wedding band was finally found! Jonny and Michelle were overjoyed and could hardly believe their luck. The entire family was delighted and relieved to have the ring back, making it a fantastic end to the day in Sea Isle City, NJ.

Lost Wedding Ring Found on Block Island RI

While on another search at an ocean beach on Block Island, a young girl approached me to ask for my help.  She explained that her dad, Marty, had just lost his wedding ring while boogie boarding with his kids.  He rode a wave and felt the ring fall off in the water near shore.  I interrupted the other search to look for the ring.  It took thirty minutes to find it in the sand near shore.  Marty and his wife were thrilled.  They felt so blessed that I happened to be there when they needed my help. You see, this was not just any ordinary wedding ring.  It had belonged to his wife’s grandfather, George, who passed away in 2019.  The ring was gifted to Marty because he married the eldest granddaughter and was very close to George.  Marty’s ring is now with his wife for safe keeping until it can be resized!
