Got a call from a gentleman who lost his wedding band while gardening. I love it when they do that!! Used the CTX 3030 with big coil. Gridded the lawn. Nothing. Checked compost, Nothing. Swept coil in area around compost and spotted the ring on the surface. BINGO. Notice the dirt still on the ring after he put it on. Glad to be reunited!
While assembling a kite with his children, he lost his Platinum wedding band. He knew the area and had searched with a metal detector, and even went at night with a flashlight to search. I used my Minelab 3030 with a large coil. Found ring which had been stepped on and driven into ground in less than 20 minutes.
Received call to go to a volleyball court to locate a mens wedding band. Married for only 3 weeks. While playing his ring came off. Used my XP Deus and located ring in about 1 minute.
In Chicago I was contacted to search for a ring that was lost when she was throwing stones at amorous opossums in the back yard. It was a collapsible 18K ring with diamonds. Less than 30 minutes and I found it. I was using my XP Deus and was surprised to see that it rang up at 78 using 18 kHz. It seems that 18K can come in very high.

Received an email at 1:34 AM from young lady who lost a silver thumb ring in the snow. She has had the ring for about 12 years, and had just had the ring resized. The ring had sentimental value and she wants to pass it on to family members in the future. We had just had a dusting of new snow over the existing snow and she had hunted during the evening, but to no avail. I spoke to her in the early morning hours, and drove to her location. Using my Minelab CTX 3030, I was able to locate in in less than 3 minutes. Needless to say she was delighted. She located the Ringfinders website through Reddit.
Got a call to look for a gold ring on Montrose Beach in Chicago, Illinois today. It was a solid 24K gold mens wedding band. I asked the owner if he knew that it was 24K. He said yes. It was made by a designer who had made similar rings for his parents. Since I had never hunted for a true 24K ring before, I wasn’t sure where it would ring up on my 3030. Since it was in dry sand, I used the 3030 which will show me the item very clearly. It rang up as a solid 12/47!!! Since it showed bright red solid on the screen 2 inches deep, and there was no trash in the area, I decided to dig it even though it came up as a quarter. BINGO! I was surprised it came in as high. Thought I would share this with you. Ive never had a gold ring come in that high on the screen.

I was contacted to find a women’s diamond wedding ring that a young child threw onto a kids soccer field in Chicago. I took both my Deus and my CTX to look for it. I showed the father how to use the CTX and I searched with the Deus. I have always thought that two detectors searching is better than one. I let him borrow one of my pinpointers, and I used the other. He had never hunted before, so I guided him as to what to look for. I set my sensitivity low on both machines, since it was a surface find. I also set the gain low on the CTX so he could tell if something was on the surface or deeper. Sure as heck, he found the ring!! I think I have just converted another metal detectorist!!

Got a call at 8:30AM on Sunday, Fathers Day.
Woman was very upset that she lost both her wedding band and her engagement ring at North Ave Beach on Saturday. Took off her rings to put on lotion and forgot they were on her lap. She was leaving Chicago shortly on Sunday. Time was of the essence. Didn’t want to break the news to her husband on Father’s Day that she lost both rings. Since they were white gold and I didn’t know how small they were, I decided to take the XP Deus and hunt in 18kHz. They had been searching the area 3 different times and lots of people had been trying to help her find them. I gridded off the area that she had been in. They were both down about 5 inches. Probably because people had been moving the sand around. Both rings came in at 45 in my ring program that Andy Sabisch helped me set up at his XP Deus Bootcamp. As you can see the wedding band was very thin, although covered in diamonds. Don’t think I would have found it if I had not been in 18kHz. Found it in less than 10 minutes.
The owner was in tears she was so relieved. She kept saying that I saved her. She was so excited to get the rings back on her hands that you can still see the sand on them! It’s great to be able to help people. What a great hobby. BEVERLY — James Murphy Sr. never gave up hope believing he’d find the 1970 high school class ring he lost in 1972.
Friday, with assistance from a Northwest Side man operating a metal detector, the gold ring was discovered at the same Beverly home where it originally slipped off the ring finger of Murphy’s left hand.
« It drove me crazy for more than 40 years, » said Murphy, 62, a retired Chicago Police officer who now lives in Mount Greenwood. « I knew it was in that yard. I’m in shock still. »

On Wednesday, Murphy called Ron Shore, owner of Norwood Park-based Windy City Detector Sales & Rental, Inc., which helps customers find long-lost items. Shore referred Murphy to Jim Evans, an actor who in his spare time conducts « search missions » throughout the Chicago area to look for anything from diamond-studded earrings to car keys lost in the snow.
« Seventy percent of my calls are from what I refer to as anger management issues, where the wife gets upset with the husband and chucks her ring and then regrets it, » Evans, of Old Irving Park, said with a laugh.
Murphy has regretted losing his 1970 senior class ring from St. Bonaventure High School — a private school in Wisconsin — since it disappeared on a September afternoon in 1972. That day Murphy was washing his brand-new, metallic dark green Ford Pinto in preparation for a date when he dipped his hand in soapy water and then flung his hand in the air. When he did, the ring went flying as well.
He heard two dings and then nothing. For two full days, he searched every part of the front yard of the Beverly house his grandfather built in 1926 and where Murphy lived from 1952-73. No ring was found.
« I had worn that ring every day, » Murphy said. « It was my pride and joy. »
The house was sold in 1973 and Murphy said the owner wouldn’t let him conduct further searches. But earlier this year, it was sold again, and this time, the new owner was accommodating to his wishes.

On Friday, Evans met Murphy at the house, asked him exactly where he was when the ring went missing, and then set up a 10-square-foot search grid with strings attached to stakes. Within 10 minutes, Evans located a metal button, a rusty nail, and then, buried six inches in the ground, Murphy’s ring, which was hidden in a clump of mud.
« I hugged everybody I could find, » Murphy said.
Evans charged Murphy $50 for the visit, and Murphy gave him $100 for finding the ring because that’s all he had on him. He plans to send him another $100 soon.
« I love this guy, » Murphy said. « I’m still as high as a kite. »
Shore said the key to locating lost items is to look for them right away. So he was shocked and thrilled Murphy’s treasured class ring was found after more than four decades.
« When he told me he lost it in 1972, it was a stretch that it would be found, » said Shore, who noted rings and other objects have a tendency to sink into the ground after a significant amount of time.
Murphy on Saturday took the ring to a jeweler, who cleaned and polished it.
And Murphy, who now has the jewelry back on his left ring finger, doesn’t plan to ever lose it again.
« This ain’t coming off again, » he said. « Maybe I’ll Krazy Glue it on. »
