Engagement Ring Lost in the Water at Manhattan Beach, CA…Found and Joyously Returned.

I received an email from Kate about a ring her daughter lost at the beach the day before. It seems her daughter Nicole was coming out of the water when a large wave hit her from behind, knocked her to the sand, and with all the violence her engagement ring came off and was gone in an instant. I proceeded to inquire with my standard questions to see how likely there would be of a recovery. Kate explained what she could, and also sent me pictures, drawn, and satellite screen shots that helped define the area. Nicole was not able to be there to show me being a flight attendant, and was gone for work. I let her know that there was a possibility of a recovery, if someone had not found the ring first. I figured that I should go at the lowest possible tide, so I let Kate know I would be going at 12:00 AM to follow the tide down, and would let her know the outcome either way.

I got to the beach right about 12:00 AM and began my search. Because of the low tide there was a lot of sand to search on the slope, so I began my search slowly and methodically. There were virtually no signals, then maybe a penny, a half hour later a piece of aluminum, another half hour another penny. It was a search with little results, but I kept on with my methodical grid. I was wearing my waders, and working into the water, because of not knowing exactly how deep Nicole was when the ring was lost, and to be sure I covered all of the possible sand available. Then 2 1/2 hours later I received a good solid signal. I dug, dumped the sand, kicked it across the open sand, turned my headlight on, and there in the darkness was the sparkle of diamonds; my heart leaped. It was still there! It was now 2:30 AM. I got back to my car and immediately sent off a text to Kate with the words « I FOUND THE RING ». She slept through the early morning announcement, and contacted me later in the morning excited, and asked for a picture. She then let me know Nicole wanted to meet me and thank me personally for the recovery when she came back into town the next week, so I held on to the ring for that meeting.

The next week Nicole and Kate contacted me to let me know that Nicole would be arriving for a one day layover. Her hotel would be in downtown Los Angeles, so I asked if I could meet with her when she arrived at the airport which would be about 20 miles closer and a lot easier to get to, which she agreed to. I made sure I arrived a little early, and we were able to find each other. She even showed me the bruises she still had on her forearms from being knocked to the sand the week before. Nicole was so very happy to get back her ring that she felt was lost forever, and I was very glad to be able to be a help for her.

My daughter was visiting Los Angeles and lost her engagement ring when she got knocked down by a wave in the surf. Mr. Smith is nothing less than a true angel and we can’t begin to thank him enough!! Not only did he find a ring that everyone was certain would never be seen again but he did it in the middle of the night when he could have been home in bed asleep!! Mr. Smith, you have definitely restored my faith in humanity and proven that there are still truly good people out there who are willing to put others interests ahead of their own! The world is blessed to have people like you in it! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Ring Lost in Grass on USC Campus…Found and Returned.

I received a call from Kevin about a lost ring. He had been on a company picnic outing the day before on a field at the USC campus. He took his ring off and put it in his pocket to make sure it did not get lost while participating in the activities of the day. After the activities were over, Kevin reached into his pocket to get his ring only to realize it was gone. He looked over the expanse of grass he had been on, and began a search for the ring with no success. I let him know that I could perform the search, and we agreed to meet the next day.

When I got there, Kevin met me, and showed me the area, it was quite large, and the thatch was thick, a good hiding place for a lost ring. I began on to outside perimeter of the search area, and started working my way back with a tight grid. The problem I encountered was the extreme amount of metal that was in the grass and soil. Much of the metal was aluminum, and tin foil, which caused me to stop and search with the pin pointer often. After about an hour of a very slow and arduous process, I got another good signal, and was about to put the pin pointer in the grass, when I caught a slight glimmer of gold peeking through the blades of grass. I reached in and retrieved Kevin’s ring. I walked it over to him, and needless to say he was very happy. His fiancé had given it to him, so it had special significance. I was very happy to have given him back something he thought was gone for good.

 *** Patrick and his family are visiting his brother here in Los Angeles. They had spent yesterday at a beautiful Malibu Beach, the day at the beach turned out to be upset when he discovered that his special heirloom gold signet ring was not on his finger after returning to their car. They returned to the spot they had been sitting on the sand as the tide was rising. His efforts to find the ring were futile. He was devastated because this ring was a gift from his father more that 30 years ago.

That night he located my contact information on the internet, so he sent me an email asking for help. I replied asking him to call as soon as possible. He immediately responded with a call. He couldn’t say he felt the ring come off his finger, but he did say he had sunscreen on his hands and had been in knee deep water only.

He would be unable to meet me at the location but he could send photos of a fence that was directly in front of where they spent the day. The big clue was that there were a few broken slats to mark it exactly. I could only guarantee that I could definitely search the dry sand and get into the surf waste deep. It might take a second try at the next lower tide.

 

After an hour of driving I was lucky to find a parking place within 50 yards from the location.  The ring didn’t show after searching the small dry area. Then I went into the water with the small waves hitting me waist high. Only one good signal which took three scoops to dig the gold signet ring that had been in the ocean almost a whole day.

Patrick couldn’t believe that we were able to save his most sentimental memory of this gift from his father many years ago. We made arrangements for me to bring the ring to his brother’s home on my way home. He was returning to Tennessee the next morning. A lot of time these type searches are not successful because people don’t feel when or where the ring came off. It is always a surprise when the lost item is there.

Platinum/ Diamond Wedding Ring Set Found with Help of Newport Beach Lifeguards

****  Jessica had placed her platinum/diamond wedding ring set on her towel while applying sunscreen. She was enjoying her day off with her children in Newport Beach, CA. When she left, she packed up their beach items and drove home. She was home before she realized her rings must have fallen in the sand when she picked up her towel.

Jessica was not able to locate our RingFinders service till after noon the next day. I took a verbal directions as to where the rings were lost and took off to the location 24 hours after the loss. It was 4 pm with people still laying out on the beach. I was able to scan a few open areas of the beach but I couldn’t feel confident that I did a complete search until the beach was clear of people.

After a couple hours I was able to begin a decent grid search. I found the wedding ring (the most difficult to find) right under where a couple had been sitting on the sand. The diamond engagement ring did not show. Immediately I thought that the larger ring may have been found by the people sitting on the spot. They had been running their fingers through the sand. ? 

It was getting discouraging as I did a triple grid. Then I was approached by one of the head lifeguard supervisors. He asked what I was looking for, I told him. That’s when he surprised me saying, a person had found a platinum engagement laying on the sand this morning. They turned it into the main lifeguard headquarters. I showed him the matching ring and gave the lifeguard Jessica’s name with her contact information. 

I called Jessica telling her to good news. We met later that day at the lifeguard headquarters were she was able to get her precious rings back on he finder where they belong. It was a different type recovery, who would think that a stranger would find a valuable ring and turn it into lost and found. I’m so glad the lifeguard supervisor took the time to confront me. The lifeguard in the tower had no idea that a ring had been turned into the main lifeguard headquarters.

Iphone Found Buried in the Sand Returned to Owner, Venice Beach, CA.

 *****While searching for silver ring at a volleyball court on the sand at Venice Beach, CA. I found a IPhone X buried next to the posts that hold the net.

Later that night after returning home, I charged the phone. There was a notification saying,” This is a lost phone please call a number listed.” I called the number getting a friend of Christina, the owner of the phone.

Christina called me a few minutes later and we made arrangements for her to pick up her phone. When she met me she couldn’t understand how her phone ended up buried in a plastic bag in a location she had never been. It probably got picked up by someone who didn’t want to get located in possession of the IPhone. These phones have location apps that can be traced back to where they have been lost.

The important thing was that we were able to get Christina’s phone back to her. She was very grateful, saying I saved her a thousand dollars. Being a college student, it’s not easy to come up with the money to replace a smart phone.

Sentimental Heirloom Pendant Lost at Manhattan Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

RJ called me in the afternoon on a hot day for a search. He had been at the beach the day before, and before going in the water he remembered putting his necklace with pendant into his bag. When he left though the necklace was gone, he figured in the beach sand. This piece of jewelry was given to him by his mother. It had been worn by his grandfather while he fought in World War 2. The pendant had the word LUCK written in Hebrew, and it meant the world to him. I came right away.

When I arrived there was still a lot people on the sand, but RJ believed that it was in an area that people were not in at the time. I did a search the best I could, but was not able to find the ring. I let him know I would go back when everyone had gone home. I got there about 8:30 PM, and began my search. After about 1 1/2 hours, and many bottle caps, pennies, and tin foil, I got another good signal. When I dug, there in my scoop was the pendant, not where he had thought it was, in fact way over to the other side of where he had conducted me earlier. This is the reason it is best to get on the search as soon as possible, because over time people tend to forget exact details that we as Ring Finders need in order to have a successful search. Of course we need to think and search « out of the box » at times in order to have a complete search of an area, and this is what was done this time. I sent RJ a text to let him know I found the pendant and chain, and arranged to meet him at the bar he was at to return it. Needless to say RJ was very happy that night!

Sentimental Silver Ring Lost at Malibu Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

I received a call from Roy, he had been throwing a football to his friend at the beach, when his ring flew off of his hand. He did not think it went into the water, even though he was close. I told him I would be there as soon as I could to perform a search for him. The ring was given to him by his father who had since passed away, so this ring had extreme sentimental value to him.

When I arrived he took me to the area, and showed me what had happened. It seemed like it should’ve been an easy search, but the tide was coming in, and less sand was exposed. It was about 7:00 PM, and tide was almost at its highest, and all the area he thought it might have landed in did not have the ring. After completely searching the area, I was disheartened to have to tell Roy, that his ring was not in the area I searched, but told him that I would come back at 12:00 AM to do a second search when the tide had receded, and he was welcome to meet me for the search. Roy decided not to go, so I was on the beach in the darkness doing my grid alone at 12:00 AM. About 1 1/2 hours later down the slope 30 feet from where I was searching earlier (30 feet further out in the water earlier), I received a real nice signal, and dug. One scoop, and his ring was shining in my headlight. I sent him a text at 1:30 AM to let him know the ring was secure. I did not hear anything back from him until the next morning, at which time he was totally in disbelief that I was able find his ring. Because of work arrangements we had to wait a week in order to get his ring back. When we finally met, I was able to give this memory of his father back to him, and completely make his day. What a great service to be a part of!

Car Key Lost in the Sand at Sunset Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

I got a call from Christopher about a key he lost in the sand at the beach. It seems he was using another key on the key ring to cut something when his car key snagged on something, and the blade of the key snapped off of the plastic door opener it was attached to, and flew into the sand. After thoroughly searching for it he found me on The Ring Finders web site, and asked for help. After describing what had happened, I let him know I would be there as soon as I could to conduct a search for him.

When I arrived, Christopher took me over to the area of the loss. He explained again what happened, and showed me where he believed the key to have flown. I turned my detector on, swung once, got a good signal, and after scooping the sand, had his key in my scoop. He was so happy, and relieved because he could not leave without the blade of the key. A very short search, made an extremely happy gentleman!

Unique Gold Engagement Ring Found and Returned to Grateful Owner.. Malibu, CA.

 I recovered a one of a kind engagement ring that was designed by Diana’s husband’. The search was a little different with a few unknowns. She wrote the story of what had happened and how we found it.

THIS IS DIANA’S STORY …

I called Stan out of confusion and desperation: I thought I had left my engagement ring at home during a trip to the beach, but could not find it anywhere. I had a strange memory of holding it before I left, but could not remember where I put it down. Since it was nowhere to be found in my apartment, my next best guess was that I had absently-mindedly pocketed it and taken it to the beach with me. Perhaps it had fallen out of my shorts and onto the sand while I was sunbathing ? It was sort of a long shot, but I had to try. I contacted Stan through RingFinders.

Stan met me at the small beach in Malibu. He methodically combed through the sand for nearly two hours, but the ring didn’t show. We walked back to our parking spot and got into our cars, about to leave, when I received a picture from my friend. The photo showed the exact location where we had been laying out. I texted Stan and he kindly agreed to return to the beach with me and give it another go. Within 5 minutes, HE FOUND IT! I truly couldn’t believe it – – it was a miracle.

Suffice to say, if you have any suspicion that your jewelry may have fallen off into sand, or dirt, or bushes or any hard-to-comb area, call Stan. We could have easily given up – – especially when we weren’t 100% sure the ring even came to the beach with me in the first place – – but Stan stuck it out and found it. I absolutely could never have done it with out him. Now every time I look at my ring, I’m even more grateful, knowing how close it came to being lost forever. Thanks to Stan, it wasn’t.

***A diamond engagement ring was pulled off Susanna’s finger when she was hit by a large wave in waist deep surf. The same wave also washed high up the sloping beach to pull her beach bag with car keys and a cellphone into the surf.

Susanna called me after locating my information on line. We discussed the time of day of the loss so I could determine the height of the tide when the ring came off her finger. Very important was the fact that she immediately knew when and where the ring left her finger.

All Southern California beaches are different and the sand conditions change daily. Sometimes I can tell that our odds are better to find a ring that has been lost in surf when they tell me what beach. Most times you can’t tell if it’s going to a difficult search until you get to the site. I try to tell these facts to people that need my help before going on a call out.

Susanna met me the next afternoon at low tide. She was confident as to the area of the beach where she had been. I was prepared to search chest deep water if I had to. The sand and slope conditions looked perfect for a successful search and it was only one day since the loss.

Started the grid in knee deep water finding a few coins then a silver colored ring with a diamond stone. It was not her ring but conditions made me feel that Susanna’s ring could still be holding in this type surf/sand conditions. After a half hour working parallel to the beach I was able to find Susanna’s white gold diamond engagement ring that had three sparkling diamonds. It was at the very end of the area she laid out for me to search. The keys and cellphone were not found they were not the object of this search.

I went up onto the beach where Susanna was with her fiancé, Alex. When I held up the ring both of them started yelling with excitement and joy. Alex actually gave me a big hug trying to lift me off my feet. There wasn’t many people one the beach but a couple people came to see what had happened. This was probably one of the most emotional recoveries I’ve done.
