Kendall was attending a horse riding show as a participant in Marion County Florida when in her rush to comb out her horse’s tail she lost a very precious ring that her loving father had given her when she was 16 years old. She actually felt her ring slip off but it landed in the sawdust covered horse stall and it immediately disappeared. But she was in a hurry and did not want to be late for her showing and thought that when she was finished she would find her lost ring. After her ride she returned to the stall and began looking through the saw dust and horse manure but for all her efforts she was unable to find her lost gold ring! She posted her dilemma on Facebook and someone sent her my name and said « Call Mike…he will help you! ». A couple of years ago Collin’s wife was in their front yard getting ready to pull some weeds and decided to remove her engagement and wedding ring and put them in a small pocket in her jacket to keep them safe. She spent maybe 25 minutes doing yard work and as she was finishing up she reached into her pocket and could only find her engagement ring. That led to another 25 minutes of searching high and low but her lost wedding ring was nowhere to be found.

Fast forward two years and the nagging thought of her lost wedding ring still out there somewhere in her front yard lead them to research « How to find a ring in the grass »! Candice and her husband, Jason, were enjoying a much needed break on Flagler Beach over the Thanksgiving holidays and late evening on Thanksgiving eve she and her husband were relaxing on the dry sand when the unthinkable happened…she felt her diamond engagement ring and wedding ring come off of her finger and watched them disappear into the soft beach sand.  They searched desperately for hours and they simply could not find them and a heavy sadness came over Candice that crushed her heart and spirit.  (It is for this very reason that I joined theringfinders.com and that is to be able to help give hope and practical assistance to those who find themselves in these kinds of desperate situations.)

Makayla called me to ask if I could help her find a very special ring that was lost in a small animal pen behind her house.  Before attempting any search I always ask some very specific questions to help me determine the likelihood of actually finding the lost or misplaced item.  Thankfully Makayla assured me that her friend actually felt the ring come off and it was in a very small area and they had not disturbed the area for fear of burying it further in the straw.  Apparently while spreading the straw out, her friend actually felt her ring slip off of her finger and it immediately disappeared…especially since the ring was a gold ring and almost the very same color as the straw.  They began looking through the 12 inch thick straw and after a while they gave up and decided they needed a metal detector and that led them to the internet and theringfinders web site.

Keys and key fob lost in Lake Virginia, Florida…found with strong magnet by Ring Finder Mike McInroe!

Elizabeth was relaxing on a dock on Lake Virginia just behind a local college and as she went to pull her water bottle out of her bag it somehow hooked her key fob and it went sailing into the water.  Of course Elizabeth was shocked and determined to retrieve them as soon as possible, especially since it was only a few feet deep she figured she could jump in and feel around with her feet.  But the pondweeds were very thick and made it difficult to feel anything on the bottom.  So her next thought was that maybe she could rent a water proof metal detector and find her lost keys that way and that search led her to theringfinders.com web site where she found my number and decided to call.  I assured Elizabeth that there was a very, very good chance to find and retrieve her lost keys and fob and a few hours later we met.  I determined to try my large Magnetar magnet first and if that method did not work then I would put on my wetsuit and use my waterproof Garrett ATMax metal detector and find it that way.  Thankfully it only took 10 minutes with my large magnet and Elizabeth was super thankful for this unique and unusual service called, « The Ring Finders »!

Property Markers Found with a metal detector in Sanford, Florida!

A friend of mine was needing to locate some property markers/pins and asked if I could have a look with my metal detector to verify the exact locations of each pin. He and a friend had measured out where they thought they should be and on three of the pins they were fairly close. I started out at the front of the property and set my metal detector to the « All Metal » mode and along the sidewalk I found each pin just off of the cement and only a few inches under the grass. Then I went to the back of the property and found the third pin right up against an AT+T box. And the final pin was in a corner of the property that was near the corner post of the neighbors chain link fence and a city light pole. I scanned the area and found a few large rusty nails and took my small shovel and cleared a four foot square area down six inches and still no pin. I scanned again and was not able to detect anything iron so I cleared more dirt down another six inches thinking maybe some fill dirt had been added to the corner of the property and still nothing. I swung my ATMax metal detector wider around the cleared area and got a strong signal and I finally located the rebar stake with the surveyors plastic yellow cap…but the stake was laying flat under four inches of dirt as if someone had pulled it up or mistakenly had dug it up when putting in the large wooden light/utility pole or possibly when the neighbor put in his fence corner post.

Paul was doing some yard work, like pulling up weeds and putting new plugs of grass in, and after a few hours of sweating and working hard he noticed that his wedding ring was no longer on his finger. Paul had previously injured his middle two fingers on his right hand and was using his left hand to do most of the work and the obvious motion that caused his ring to come off was the pulling and throwing of the weeds into a pile. And thankfully he had saved all of the rubbish to be thrown out later. He and his wife tried searching the yard on their hands and knees thinking maybe, just maybe they could spot it but Paul’s ring had just seemed to disappear! That evening Paul’s wife went online and purchased a cheap metal detector and they spent the next day trying to figure out how to work it and decipher the strange sounds that it made. The next evening they came across theringfinders.com and gave me a call.

After hearing Paul’s story I decided to do a thorough search of the area where he thought was the most likely place where he felt it could have been lost. I gave him four cones so he could mark out the general area and I set about doing a tight grid search going back and forth…being careful to overlap each pass. Paul stayed right there watching my every move and after 15 minutes I got a super clean gold signal reading very shallow and I told Paul to come over and check out what was hiding just under the grass! Paul was so, so thankful and immediately picked it up and put it back on his finger and smiled a big smile of relief!

Lost wedding ring found under dock, Cocoa Beach, Florida…and returned to grateful owner!

Doug and his wife had just returned from a beautiful day out on the water fishing and as they unloaded some personal items onto the dock a very special ring dropped from the small table and bounced and managed to fall directly through one of the cracks and into the water below. This was a super sentimental ring and meant the world to Doug’s dear wife. Doug got right at trying to find someone who could retrieve the ring and looked up « Ring Finder » on his phone. Theringfinders.com service came up and he noticed a number of members of this service were in the area but none of them were equipped to do an underwater search of this kind. Doug eventually found my number and gave me a call.

It was the middle of December and I attempted a recovery dive but the water was just way too cold and we decided to try again later on the following summer. So in May when the weather and water temperatures were much more bearable I showed up to give it another try. The oyster shells were strewn across the bottom and this made digging difficult and the visibility was only a foot or two…until I would start digging and then visibility went to 10 inches. Other members of theringfinders.com have shared a wonderful idea that helps with grid searching in these types of conditions and that is a sinking pvc square that will sit on the bottom which allows me to methodically search an area even though I cannot actually see where I am going or where I have been but by following the grid with one hand and scanning the bottom with my small handheld metal detector with the other hand…I can cover an area very thoroughly and when finished I am able to move the pvc grid to another area and thoroughly search that area as well until I find what I am looking for. (Doug had also informed me that a few years back the dock was completely destroyed in a hurricane…so there was an awful lot of other signals to sift through before God allowed me to find Doug’s wife’s lost ring!)

What an honor it was to help find and return this precious lost ring to its rightful owner!!
