Lost gold chain and cross in Lake Howell, Winter Springs, Florida….Found and Returned!

I received a call from Mr. Robin inquiring information about « Underwater Metal Detecting ». You see, he runs a unique day camp for kids during the summer months and has a number of young adults that help work with the little ones doing all sorts of outdoor activities. In January of 2018, one of the young adult men, named Frankie, was on the dock, horsing around with some of his friends, when he decided to dive into the chilly water. And yes, the lakes are fairly cold during the winter months here in Central Florida, at least to us thin blooded Floridians! Well, Frankie dove in a couple of times and after his 3rd dive, as he was coming up the ladder he noticed his gold chain and cross were not around his neck! This chain and cross was a gift from his grandmother and he just had to find it and get it back around his neck. He and the others dove numerous times hoping to find it, but each time they came up with only weeds and clam shells. Later on they even had someone with scuba gear try and locate it but soon they realized they needed someone with a metal detector. Thankfully I was able to get my scuba certification and I agreed to try and find Frankie’s lost chain and cross.
I arrived at the camp Saturday morning with all my gear and was shown just where the target area was. It was only a 15X20 square foot area but the challenge was the lack of visibility in the murky water. Once you dig a target the whole bottom gets all stirred up and from then on you go by feel. I was able to hold the shaft of my Tesoro Tiger Shark metal detector in my left hand and go over a small area and then with my right hand I would use my Garrett AT Pro pointer, (the Garrett Carrot) to check out each signal. It was a really slow and difficult process and to add to it all I could not go in a straight line and would invariably angle off to one side or another. I did find numerous targets, like a brass whistle, a bunch of pop cans, a few coins, some screw tops and an assortment of nails, screws and other junk. About 35 minutes into my dive I felt the chain under my coil and as I pulled it from the sand and weeds, I realized there was no cross on the chain, so I continued to search. Three targets later up came Frankie’s cross. I said a short prayer and thanked God for helping me find this sentimental treasure and headed to the surface! It is hard to express in words how it feels when one is reunited with something so precious and valuable! Lost something valuable? Call, text or e-mail me ASAP!

Lost engagement ring, Port Orange, Fl…..Found!

Jennifer was enjoying a cool afternoon walk along her favorite grassy back road and thinking about how loose her engagement ring felt on her finger. As she walked along she was thinking, I wonder if my ring would come off if I shook my hand a bit and sure enough, the motion was enough to send her ring off into the thick grass! Shocked at what just happened, she immediately stopped and tried searching through the grass, desperate to recovery her now, lost ring! After searching for several hours she realized she needed to at least mark the spot and by using her foot she scuffed a bare spot on the grassy road and then went to her truck to find something to better mark the area. All she could find was a machete and some red surveyors tape, so she returned to the mark and stuck the machete into the ground along side of the road directly across from the bare spot. She then called her fiancee and together they talked about renting or buying a cheap metal detector. Later they went on Google and typed in « Metal Detection Professionals » and up came theringfinders.com. Jennifer gave me a call and we met later on that afternoon and drove out to the unique machete marker along side of the road. I set out four flags and began my grid search and did not walk more than 5 steps before I got a really nice signal on my Whites DFX metal detector. Because the grass was so thick I decided to use my Garrett Pro Pointer and there was Jennifer’s lost engagement ring! I motioned for Jennifer to come pick up what I had located and you talk about one happy young lady! Here’s what Jennifer wrote two days later. « While out walking,my favorite ring fell off my finger and even though I knew the location where it fell off, I was unable to find the ring after several hours of looking through the tall grass. I contacted Mike after finding his information on the internet and he responded as soon as he was able. Mike asked a few questions, set up a boundary and started looking. And within minutes of him arriving at the site, my ring was found!! I am so grateful to Mike for his help and my fiancee and I would like to give him a big thanks! Again thanks so much! »

Lost ring Sanford, Florida…..Found!

Shaunan called me on Friday and asked if I could possibly help her find a very special lost ring. She explained that Saturday night she was playing with her dog in the back yard and when she came back into the house, her ring was not on her finger. She said she was almost 100 percent positive that is where her ring came off. The lost ring was a gift from her parents when she started college and that was over 4 years ago!
When she realized her ring was not on her finger, she immediately went outside with a flashlight and began looking thru the thick grass. And after a couple of hours she gave up. The next day she looked again but still could not find her precious lost ring. Her father decided to help out and looked on the internet for someone to help and typed in « Metal Detecting Service in Sanford » and up came theringfinders.com web page and one of my recent stories.
Later that afternoon Shaunan showed me the area where she was playing with her dog and I set up four small flags and started grid searching. I was told the ring was silver so figured it would surely give me a good high tone and read in the silver range on my Whites DFX display. There were very few targets—some rather deep and one or two larger targets. After my first grid search of the 30 square foot area I decided to look the outer area over. Still no ring! I switched to my « Prospecting Mode » and researched the same area in a perpendicular direction. Soon I got a nice signal, really close to one of the deep large targets, and this one read like a pull tab/gold signal. Thinking it was probably a pull tab, I stuck my Garrett pro pointer down into the thick grass and there was Shaunan’s lost ring! You should have seen and heard Shaunan hooting and hollering for joy! It was a delight to behold the thrill and happiness in her voice and actions! Thanks for allowing me the pleasure of helping you get your special ring back….and thanks too for the generous reward.

Buried wallet in sand, New Smyrna Beach, Florida…….found!!

Brandon was enjoying a beautiful day at NSB with his family and as he thought about going out into the water he wondered where he could put his wallet for safe keeping. Not wanting to leave it somewhere exposed, he decided to bury it in the sand under the corner of his towel. And as the afternoon wore on Brandon sort of forgot about his wallet and picked up his towel a couple of times to dry off. It wasn’t until later that he remembered his wallet.
So he went back to where he thought would have been the corner of his towel area in the sand and started digging. All the sand looked the same and the more he dug the more frustrated he became. His family started giving him a hard time and after an hour or so of digging—he realized it would take more than sheer luck to find his buried wallet. Thankfully Brandon had a single car key inside his wallet and thought about a metal detector. So on his phone he typed in « Metal Detecting Service »! This led to theringfinders.com web site and my first conversation with Brandon.
After making arrangements to meet on the beach, Brandon called me one last time to make sure I had a shovel or something to dig with, and I reassured him I had my metal detector and a couple of things to dig with! An hour later I met Brandon and we walked onto the beach to where his family was set up for the day and you could see the 6 foot square area where it was all dug up! I reassured Brandon and within seconds I got a signal on the edge of where he had been digging. And sure enough, as I pushed the sand back, there was the corner of Brandon’s lost wallet peeking out at me. Brandon was so happy to have his wallet back and I could see the relief on his face. Thanks Brandon for calling me and it was a pleasure to meet you and help you get your wallet back!
Buried something valuable and cannot seem to find it? Maybe I can help! Call or e-mail me—ASAP!

Platinum wedding ring lost at New Smyrna Beach, Fl. …..Found!!

  • from Sanford (Florida, United States)
Contact:

I received a call from David asking me if I could help him find his lost platinum wedding ring in the dry sand at the beach. He explained that he and his Dad were heading to a beach side restaurant and as they were coming to the wooden stairway he felt his ring slip off of his finger. He immediately stopped and began running his hands through the sand desperately hoping to find his ring—but it had completely disappeared! He looked for sometime and finally realized he needed more help and that led him to search the internet. Up popped theringfinders.com . New Smyrna Beach is only an hour drive due east so I packed up my gear and hit the road. An hour later I walked up to David and introduced myself. I could see that David had marked the area by setting out two lawn chairs and his bags around an upright wooden post. He explained what happened and then asked me a few questions. It only took a minute to set up my Whites Dual Field and then I made two swings with my detector and I got a good signal. I paused and mentioned that generally during a search I get various signals and dig other items–like pull tabs, bottle caps, coins, etc… But this signal was very strong and had a slight double beep! (Large rings occasionally give that sound!) So I dug a large scoop of sand with my homemade digger, sifter and as I shook out the sand–there in the bottom was David’s 13 year old platinum wedding ring!
It’s always an awesome feeling to help someone find their lost item–expecially one as important as a wedding ring!

Lost Wedding Ring…New Symrna Beach, Florida…Found!

  • from Sanford (Florida, United States)
Contact:

I came across a post with a photo of a mans wedding ring. Apparently this young couple had just recently moved to the Central Florida area and were visiting the beach for the very first time. Wading into the water and just getting his legs wet and only dipping his hands in the cool, salty surf was enough to loosen his ring and off it slipped into the churning water. Craig tried desperately to find his ring as he ran his hands along the sandy bottom feeling for his ring. They spent a couple of hours looking and were very discouraged as they finally came to realize they would probably never see his ring again. Leaving the beach was very hard and Craig had even tied a twist tie around his finger to help bring some sort of comfort and ease the pain of loosing his ring.
I sent Craig an e-mail and explained about theringfinders.com and offered my services. He was thrilled to hear of my willingness to help him. That evening he texted me his info about where they had been at New Symrna Beach and what time of day they were in the water. He even drew a picture and sent me that as well—which was a huge help in putting me in close proximity to where his ring was last seen. I reassured Craig that I would do my best and would call him as soon as I had any good news. The next day I hit the beach, armed with my trusty Whites Dual Field metal detector, and began to grid search the vast expanse of water and sand. About 50 minutes into my search I got a good signal and there in the bottom of my Nutall scoop was Craig’s ring! I whispered a quiet « Thank you » to God for helping me find the ring and headed to the car to text Craig the good news!
Later that evening Craig and his wife stopped by the house to pick up his ring. It is hard to put into words the joy and relief and happiness that one experiences during these moments. Craig and his wife were expecting their first little one and their first year wedding anniversary was coming up as well–so getting his ring back was a huge blessing! What an awesome privilege it has been to help this young couple! Thanks for letting me help you!
