Ring Lost while fishing recovered and Returned

Chris was fly fishing in the Sooke River outside Victoria B.C. On Saturday October 15th, he got a fish on and was fighting this mature Salmon when he felt his Wedding Ring fall off. Now this is bad news but it gets worse, Chris was a newly wed only 7 weeks married and he losses his wedding ring.

Monday Chris did a Google search and came up with my name on THE Ring Finders web site.

We arranged to return to the River Tuesday at noon. After a short hike and a wade in the river, I got that strong tone, FOUND IT!

Chris screamed to the other fisherman, we found it, everyone was in shock. I so love my job!

Lost wedding ring in the grass…St. Cloud, Florida…Found!

Waylon called me Thursday around noon to ask if I could help him find his wedding ring. Apparently while throwing some sticks and debris into the woods he felt his ring slide off of his finger and actually caught a glimpse of it as it sailed into the brush! After searching the area he soon realized he needed the help of a metal detector. He rented a cheap detector and searched the area but only found a few cans and bits of metal. And after 13 years of marriage and a wedding anniversary coming up in December, Waylon was anxious to find his ring.
When I asked for an address of where I could meet Waylon, he mentioned the area where he lost his ring was a new subdivision and he decided to drop me a pin of the exact location. Google maps is an amazing feature and an hour later I arrived at the site. It took me a few minutes to find the side walk and wooded area where Waylon had searched for his ring. I set out 2 flags and fired up my DFX. I usually search in Coin and Jewelry mode and have a fairly good idea of what my detector tells me when I go over different kinds of metals. My first pass was in the grass and my second pass was just into the edge of the woods. There were thick clumps of grass and brier bushes with sticks and weeds. I figured if I do not find it in the second pass then it could turn into a long tough search–as the bushes only got thicker and more of a tangled mess! But as I was ending my second pass I got a good signal. So using my trusty Garrett pro pointer, I scraped the dirt to see how deep the item was and as I brushed the dirt aside there was Waylon’s ring pressed into the ground.
As I picked up the ring and cleaned it off I realized that I had not gotten a good description from Waylon as to what exactly his ring looked like. So in a text I asked him to describe his ring. Sure enough it was his ring. I changed my boots and got some water to clean his ring and then sat down to wait for Waylon to arrive.
Fifteen minutes later Waylon drove up and I presented him with his ring!dscf2565-001dscf2563
What an honor and a pleasure it has been to help Waylon and his wife! And I encouraged him to get that ring resized and have an early Happy Anniversary!

Lost Gold watch

Lost gold watch found after the owner was tidying his garden. Problem was it was in an area which was used for fires for many years, which was overgrown and full of trash. recovered in about an hour. He gave it a little wind and it sprang into life!

Silver Strand State Beach lost ring Found!

I got the call this morning a little before 8am as I was about to leave and meet up with a detecting buddy for some old property hunting. Kim had lost her wedding band/engagement ring combo in the dry sand so my morning plans would have to be delayed a bit. Instead, I hot footed it over the the Silver Strand State Beach to search for a supposedly sterling silver wedding set. After getting the boundaries of the search area established, I started my grid. It was next to a block wall with rebar inside, so, getting right up next to it might pose a problem. a couple of minutes later, I get a nice low tone 12-07 on my E-trac….. probably a wad of foil…..not what I was looking for, so, I almost passed it by, but, I figured, what the heck. It was a good strong signal and removing it would keep any masking problem from occurring. I stuck my pin pointer into the sand and located the target. Fished it out with my fingers and to my amazement, it was Kim’s ring! I said to them, this is not sterling silver, it’s reading gold. Kim said, « oh yeah, it’s white gold, not sterling »! Good thing I didn’t ignore it! That’s why we ask what type of metal we’re asked to find. With most high end modern detectors, we can discriminate between metals and ignore some of the ones we’re not looking for, so, knowing exactly what we’re looking for is very important. In a large search area, that can be a real time saver. Everything turned out good and a very happy Kim and her husband John can now get some much needed sleep! Oh, I didn’t mention that they were just married and were on their honeymoon when this happened! In fact, it happened last night and they spent the night sleeping in their rental car at the beach so they could keep an eye on the area! Now that’s people who wanted that ring back! A pleasure to meet you both! Have fun on the rest of your honeymoon, a safe trip home, and thank you for the reward.

Lost Mans Platinum Wedding Band In Dewey Beach, Delaware Found

On 08/20/16, I received a call from a gentleman requesting my help in finding his platinum wedding band which had been lost while playing volleyball. The gentleman stated that he had been playing volleyball during the early morning hours of 08/19/16 on a beach volleyball court located in the town of Dewey Beach, Delaware. The gentleman stated that he had taken his wedding band off of his finger so that it would not come of his finger while playing volleyball and he placed it in the pocket of his shorts. The gentleman stated that when he finished playing volleyball he went to put his wedding ring back on his finger and found that it was missing from his shorts pocket. On 08/21/16, I responded to the location of the lost ring and began my search on the north side of the volleyball net where the gentleman had been playing. The ring was located about forty-five minutes into the search towards the outside area of the volleyball court about four inches down in the sand. After recovering the ring and letting the gentleman know that it had been recovered, I packaged the ring up and mailed it back to him on 08/22/16.

Lost Wedding Rings in Maurice, LA. – Found

Sid got a call from Shane the day after his wife lost her engagement ring and wedding band (soldered together) in his Dad’s back yard. They were having a party and the couple were active at the party and around the subdivision. They had made many trips around and off the property on a golf cart.  I went early the next morning and started in the back yard off the porch, the party’s main location. On my second pass, I got a shallow, gold signal and found the ring ½” below ground level. Total search time, 15 minutes. Another smiling face. Dad got the picture since Shane needed to be at work. Thank you Randy and Shane for the generous reward. This helps keep these search services available.

 

P.S. Received an email from Shane’s Mom later in the day. She is a good friend from the past. Made the find even sweeter.

In the James River for over a year

In August, I got an email from Lindsay after she saw my listing in the Ring Finder’s directory. She lost the rings last year when a friend accidentally pulled them off her fingers. She had another detectorist do a search that summer, but he could not complete the recovery.

The access to the river is on private property. With all the variables of work, family, and the schedules of the owners, it was difficult to schedule a day. We finally got to the river on a beautiful Saturday morning. My wife who is a certified divemaster, acted as my safety diver. Lindsay’s husband Brett, met us in a nearby town and we followed him to the property. A pleasant gentleman who is one of the landowners met us at the river.

Brett paddled out from the small dock to where he thought the rings dropped. He gave me every detail he could remember and placed me within 15 feet of where I found the rings. Brett’s memory and ability to find the location was invaluable. Lindsay was tenacious and never gave up hope. I am so glad I could help them recover the rings.

I have been metal detecting above and below the water for many years. This is my first recovery through Ring Finders. Thank you to Chris Turner for creating the directory and getting us together!

Lost Engagement Ring Found In The Bay At Ocean City, Maryland

On 08/21/16, I received a call from Tom requesting my help in locating an engagement ring that had been lost in the waters of the bay in Ocean City, Maryland. I learned that Tom and Michelle had been engaged on 08/12/16 and while visiting the Ocean City, Maryland area the ring had been lost in the bay on 08/20/16 at 6:30 pm. Tom and Michelle had ridden a jet ski from the residence that they were staying at over to a local restaurant, while sitting on the jet ski Michelle decided to place her engagement on her necklace chain for safe keeping. Before Michelle could get the ring on her necklace chain it slipped out of her hand and fell into the water. Tom made arraignments with the local restaurant to allow me to search for the ring on 08/22/16 at 7:00 am as the ring had been lost in the water just off of the beach of the restaurant. Upon arriving at the search location, Tom and Michelle took me to the area where the ring had been lost. The ring had been lost in about two feet of dark murky water right in the area where  jet skis had been docked. After Tom pointed out the area of the lost ring I placed four markers in an area measuring about six feet by six feet. In that area I recovered four beverage pull tabs, during a search I dig all targets just in case. I also showed Tom and Michelle all four tabs as I recovered each one. I then started to work the area of deeper water away from the beach at which time Tom told me that he felt the that ring had been lost closer to the beach. I adjusted my search at which time I began to search the outside area of where I had placed the first marker. Just as I began to search next to the first marker the sound that I was waiting for came through my headset. I then recovered the ring and as I pulled it out of my sand scoop I revealed the prize to Tom and Michelle who were truly grateful for the return of the ring. Congratulations to Tom and Michelle on their engagement. seecrets-oc-md.

Lost ring at Coronado found

Laura was at the beach with friends and lost her wedding ring. She had taken off all her jewelry and had placed them in her bag. Through the course of the day she removed items from the bag and the ring must have accidentally come out with them. At one point, the blanket was dragged 30 feet downwind to get a good shaking to remove the accumulated sand. Once she realized that her ring wasn’t in the bag anymore, the search was on. Soft sand and fairly large possible search area = no success. One of her friends went online seeking help and TheRingFinders.com popped up. I got the call and gathered my gear for hopefully a quick search. I’d been out all morning detecting in the 100 degree heat, so, I was hoping for an easy one. After gathering all the info I could, I had them move a bit of their gear so I could start my grid. After a quarter and a few pieces of scrap metal, I got a low tone right at the edge of the supposed search area. After the sand drained out of my scoop, I see a nice diamond ring matching her description. Cheers go up as everyone realized that it had been found along with a couple of heartfelt hugs. A pleasure to meet you all and thank you for the reward. Now, time for A/C and a cold one!

Lost Silver Ring FOUND in Kerrville, TX. Louise Hays Park!

Late Tuesday afternoon I received a Facebook message from Annette saying she had lost her ring on Sunday in Kerrville’s Louise Hays Park. She explained that she actually lost three rings but was able to find only two of them. She said she knew the approximate area that the ring should be in. I told her I would be happy to attempt to recover her ring but I would have to get permission from the City Parks Department in order to use a metal detector in the park. I emailed the Parks Department for permission but it was too late in the day to get a response. We decided to meet that evening at the site of the loss just to go over the details and spot the exact location. Arriving at the location my wife and I both said « Wow, it looks like the grass was just mowed today! » Sure enough the grass in the area of the loss was freshly mowed. What if the mower picked the ring up and spit it out to who knows where?

Late Wednesday morning I received an email from Ashlea at the Kerrville Parks Department saying I have permission to look for the ring with conditions such as no disturbing the soil, etc. I wrote back my thanks to Ashlea and stated this would strictly be a surface search. At noon I went down to the park and went to work detecting with my Garrett AT PRO and Garrett Pro Pointer. Wow, there was a lot crackling through my headphones – lots of great tones coming from below the surface! This particular area was very near concrete picnic tables that were probably there since the park was built in 1950. (Interesting side note: The entire 35 acre Louise Hays Park was built by the citizens of Kerrville in 1 day http://joeherringjr.blogspot.com/2013/01/kerrvilles-louise-hays-park-built-in-day.html#.V9n94pgrKVM ). Knowing the ring would be on the surface and not buried, I concentrated on my depth meter and used my Pro Pointer to pinpoint good targets. About 45 minutes of swinging and pinpointing (and lots of bottle caps and a few pennies) BINGO! There was this little silver ring hidden in the grass and clover!

I sent this picture of the ring where I found it to Annette and she replied OMG! We set a time to meet so she could place the ring back on her finger where it belonged. As you can see in the picture, Annette had a huge smile while I smiled from behind the camera.
