I received a call from a gentleman whose wife had lost her wedding and engagement rings on a beach a few miles from my house. The problem was that I was out of town on vacation and couldn’t help, or could I? I put a call out to a few fellow detectorists who turned out to be unavailable but after checking the directory I found another Ring Finder who was about an hour and half away and recommended a call to him. Long story short, he made the trip down the coast and recovered the rings the next morning. Goes to show,  you should always call a Ring Finder first.

Lost wedding ring, Lighthouse Point Park, Ponce Inlet, Florida….Found and Returned!

Marcia called me on Saturday wanting to know if I was available to help her look for her lost rings. While she and her husband were enjoying swimming in the ocean they got to talking about getting tan lines and Marcia wanted to see if under her rings she had any tan lines. She was in waist deep water at the time and she pulled her rings only slightly down her finger to see if she had any of those dreaded « tan lines » and then the unimaginable happened. Her rings simply slid the rest of the way down her finger and into the churning surf. She could not believe what had just happened. She and her husband frantically began searching the water but her rings just seemed to vanish.
Thankfully Marcia found theringfinders.com web site and decided to give me a call. Rings lost in the water at the beach require someone to look as soon as possible, so the following day I met Marcia at the Lighthouse Point Park and she showed me the area where they were when the « unimaginable » happened! I set out four corner flags in the wet sand and two flags down the middle and started my grid search in and out of the water. The rings were dropped around three hours before high tide in waist deep water so that meant I needed to thoroughly search quite a large area. I was amazed that Marcia was able to remember where she lost her rings in the surf because after an hour of searching I pulled her wedding ring out of the sand in three feet of water. I thought for sure the engagement ring would be somewhere in the same area but I just could not find it. Come to find out the engagement ring was a thinner band and had a large 1 carat diamond set up high. Could it be that my metal detector just could not find such a thin gold ring? Or did the large diamond sticking up cause the ring to tumble around and get pushed to another location?
Three days later I went back at low tide and searched again for four more hours and still could not find Marcia’s 2nd lost ring. Thankfully Marcia was able to get her wedding ring back and that gave her plenty to be grateful for!

Lost Diamond Ear Ring Stud in Grass .. Huntington Beach, CA. .. Found with Metal Detector

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

The other day a friend of mine asked me if I would be interested in helping him find a white gold diamond stud ear ring. We both have the XP Deus metal detectors with high frequency search coils. Stud ear rings are difficult to find with a metal detector especially if they are white gold or platinum. To add to the problem the small stud ear ring was lost in the grass and there was a lot of small metallic trash.

The loss occurred when Cindy was in the backyard. She was holding a small child when the child grabbed her ear. It was a small area and they were able to find the backing to the stud.  A half dozen family members spent many hours crawling through the grass looking for the tiny diamond stud without any success.

The two of us spent about 15 minutes setting up our detectors using the other stud ear ring. Then we split the area in two sections each side of where the backing was found. I anticipated having to remove much of the trash metal that may be masking the small piece of gold. After about 15 minutes of searching I received a nice solid signal, much stronger than I was listening for. I parted the grass with my fingers to catch the glimmer of the white gold setting. The diamond was not visible.

I called my friend over to check the signal with his detector and his detector could also pick up the signal. Then we asked Cindy to come over to retrieve her very special gold/ diamond ear ring out of the grass. This was very sentimental to her because it was a gift for her mother several years ago. You can see a happy smile she had in the photo.

Every time I get a chance to try these difficult searches, it’s a confidence booster, when I can make my detector work at its highest level. I have a lot of hours of experience using a metal detector. Sense I’ve been doing ring and jewelry recoveries I’ve been forced to learn more about my metal detecting abilities. Almost every search has its challenges.

If you have lost your ring or other sentimental keepsake, please contact me ASAP. You will not be bothering me. I will answer the phone 24/7. Our chances of finding your valuable metal keepsake are greatly increased not delaying a phone call or text. Emails are too slow.

Vintage Gold Watch Lost from Beach Chair Cupholder .. Found in Sand at Newport Beach, CA.

This is the fourth time in the last couple weeks that I got a call out for jewelry lost from a beach chair cupholder. Rich and his family are from Phoenix, AZ. They were here on vacation in the Los Angeles area . This day they had been at Newport Beach, CA., where he had put his Vintage Gold Omega watch in the cupholder of his beach chair. At the end of they day, they picked up their belongings to make the trip back to their hotel near LAX airport.

Rich realized that he had not retrieved his watch from the beach chair cupholder just before arriving at the hotel. Rich is a attorney. This was a very sentimental as he had purchased it 30 years ago when he had celebrated winning his first court case. He had plans of passing it down to his son in the future. His wife found my information on line and he called me.

We met on the beach after he made the 30 mile drive back to Newport Beach. Most the people were off the beach, giving us room to do a proper search. Rich was worried that the watch may have fallen out in the massive dry sand area from the towel line back to the boardwalk. I told him that most of these losses are found near the place the beach chair was picked up. That’s where I started the grid search. If it wasn’t there I would not stop till all the possible sandy hiding places were covered.

After searching the first 50ft x 30ft of dry sand the beautiful gold Omega watch showed up in my sand scoop. Rich was off in the distance shuffling his feet through the sand. He looked at me and I gave him a thumbs up. It was a great reunion with Rich and his very special sentimental watch.

I was happy not to have to search the football field area where it could have been lost. Rich and I had a great conversation as we walked back off the beach with his prized possession. He said his family was anxiously awaiting his call hoping that the search was successful.

If you have lost your ring or other sentimental keepsake, please contact me ASAP. You will not be bothering me. I will answer the phone 24/7.  Call or Texts work best, emails sometimes cause a delay that my lessen our chances of findin your valuable.

Lost Gold Wedding Ring from Beach Chair Cupholder.. Laguna Beach, CA. .. Found

I don’t check Craigslist very often, except when I’m trying to locate an owner of a ring. The other day I saw a Craigslist lost and found  post that gave too much information about where the ring was lost. I called Ryan to ask if it had been found? It had been lost  on a Thursday on the dry sand in Laguna Beach,CA. This being the beginning of summer with many new people searching the beaches with metal detectors I thought that the ring probably had been found.

I volunteered to go give the area a quick grid search. It’s a short beach with only about 30 ft of dry sand from the beach homes to the wet sand. Ryan had put his white gold wedding band in the cupholder of his beach chair. He forgot it was in the cupholder when leaving then walked less that 200ft to leave the beach.

When I got to the beach I found a gold colored ring within the first few minutes which turned out to not to be Ryan’s ring. Later I searched the whole area of dry sand with no success.  That night I started to think about one small spot that people were lying on the sand and the possibility that the ring could of fallen out of the cup holder on the walk to the car in the wet sand.

I returned he next morning at a lower tide and found Ryan’s ring in the area where people had been sitting the first day. It was difficult to stay positive when I knew it had been over four days in such a heavily hunted beach.

I sent Ryan a picture of the ring and he immediately text me a reply.,” That’s it! I can’t believe you found it, I thought it was gone forever”

Ryan and his wife were out of town for a few days, actually planning to purchase a replacement ring.  I returned his ring a few days later. Sometimes it’s easy to give up on a search if you think about all the negative possibilities of where the ring could have been lost. I just concentrate on eliminating the hiding places that a metal detector can be used find it.

Janeen called me about 8:30pm, frantic about loosing her iPhone in the sand at Corona DelMar State Beach in the City of Newport Beach,CA.

The beach is only a couple miles from my home and it closes at 10pm. When I arrived Janeen’s there were more than 10 family members that had been searching the area. The “Find My Phone App” showed it still in the area, so it had not been picked up by a stranger.

I started a grid search and found the phone more than 30 feet away from the GPS location that the app gave us.

It was a cool evening and everybody was cold and tired after a full day at the beach. Now they could get ready to make the one hour drive back home. Janeen is a cellphone/ computer nerd and was totally appreciated that we found the phone with all her personal photos and other information. I love doing this and I was back home by 9:30pm.

If you lose something in the dry sand, mark the area and get landmarks that will help you return to the general area. Call a metal detector expert from TheRingFinders ASAP. Some beaches get daily sand cleaning machines that may end up claiming your valuable before we have a chance to find it with a metal detector. We want to optimize our chances of finding your sentimental keepsake. Timing is important. Phone calls and texts are the best ways to contact me. Emails are sometimes slower to catch.

Lost Rings in Beach Volleyball Court at Laguna Beach,CA. .. Found and Returned

Julia called from Laguna Beach, CA., asking for help finding two rings lost while playing volleyball on the sand. Somebody on the beach told her to google search, TheRingFinders.com.

When Julia talked to me, I asked if she could wait at the beach another half hour. From what she told me, I was certain that the rings could easily be found with my metal detector and not to waste time searching for the rings by hand. It might be possible to find one ring but from my experience it’s difficult to find both rings by hand.

When I arrived it was about a four or five block walk to the location. I set up my metal detector and found the silver ring first, then a couple more swings and the gold/platinum ring was in the scoop. It was a fun search and it came off like everyone involved had done this before.

Julia and her friends thanked me and the lifeguards gave me high fives. Then we all packed up and headed home. TheRingFinders scores again.

If you have lost your ring or other sentimental keepsake, please contact me ASAP. You will not be bothering me. I will answer the phone 24/7. Our chances of finding your valuable metal keepsake are greatly increased If you call or text.

Andy and his wife went to Rosey’s Dog Beach a section of Long Beach, CA. .. When they got home his wife realized that her platinum/ diamond engagement ring was not on her finger.  Panic set in, the only place they had gone was the beach that morning. She had not done anything physically caused the ring to slip from her finger. It could have fallen off walking to the car, maybe it was in the car or house.

Andy called me not sure that the ring was at the beach. We discussed that I could at least search the area to verify that the ring was not there. When Andy and I met he was kind of doubtful that the ring was there. I just assured him, if it was there we had a very good chance of finding it.

He was sure that we were in the general location which is sometimes hard to do once you leave the beach. All sand looks the same.

I set up a grid pattern and started my search in the dry sand. Andy walked around kicking sand trying not to get excited every time I dug a piece of metal junk. On the sixth pass I dug a target that turned out to be the beautiful platinum and diamond engagement ring we were looking for. Andy just was ecstatic and gave me a big man hug. So special to see the joy and gratitude in a person when we are able to find a sentimental item that was thought to be lost forever. Right away Andy was on his cellphone giving his wife the good news.

Kim had  put her rings on her lap while putting on sun screen. A bee came close to her and she got up quickly swatting at the bee. Her two rings went into the sand. She and her husband Gary were able to find the larger ring.

After several hours dragging their fingers through the dry sand, someone on the beach told them about TheRingFinders. Kim called me summarizing what happened. I heard, dry sand, she knew the rings went into the sand, and they could stay at the location till I got there. Perfect! I told her the ring was just hiding and I could find it with a metal detector.

It was a busy beach day,but I was lucky to find a parking place without too much trouble. I located the black and white umbrella where Kim and Gary were patiently waiting. It was a quick recovery with smiles and everyone nearby celebrating the find of the ring with high fives and cheers.

Lost Celphone Found at an Equestrian Center .. Huntington Beach, CA.

James  lost his cellphone while working at an equestrian boarding stables in Huntington Beach, CA. He had been driving a tractor using it to spread mulch over a large field. His cell phone was on the seat next to him. Some time during the morning his phone slipped off the seat into the field.

When James got a hold of me, he was just returning from buying a replacement phone. He asked if I could help search for his lost Iphone. It was a large area with several piles of soft wood chip mulch that could hide a phone. He believed that he mace have damaged the phone but would like to have a chance to retrieve information that he had not backed up, if we could find it.

James drove me to the search area walking through all the possible places the phone could be. Then he pointed out one pile that he thought was the most likely and I started there. It was just a place where he remembered hearing an unusual sound hit the floor of his tractor, several hours before discovering the loss of his phone.

James put me right on the spot and within the first 10 minutes my detector came up with a strong signal that turned out to be his phone in perfect condition. We though we might be looking for a phone that probably got damaged by any of the vehicles or the tractor.

James was amazed and thankful that his phone was found so easily. I know we had a lot of luck going for this search.
